Washington US Presidential Election 2024: House, Senate, local elections - What we know

#Gravitas President-elect Donald Trump recently announced that Tom Homan, his former acting US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director will be in charge of mass deportations pledged by Trump during his campaign. Homan will be Trump's "Bordar Czar" who is possibly planning to deport millions of "illegal" immigrants in the US on Trump's first day in the White House. Watch this video to find out more.

Trump's 'border Czar' Tom Homan's Deportation Plan

On Sunday (November 10), US President-elect Donald Trump urged that Republican senators allow him to circumvent the Senate confirmation process for crucial appointments. According to sources, the goal is to avoid Democratic resistance and keep his administration moving forward.

US: Trump Seeks To Bypass Senate Confirmation Vote

<p>Vivek Ramaswamy, the former Republican presidential contender turned aide to President-elect Donald Trump has voiced strong support for Trump's proposed mass deportation of undocumented immigrants.</p>

<p>The Indian-American entrepreneur emphasising the need to enforce immigration laws to restore order said that the United States' legal immigration system was “broken”.</p>

<h2><strong>A 'broken' system</strong></h2>

<p>In an interview with ABC News, Ramaswamy argued that those who entered the US illegally, particularly in recent years, do not have the right to remain.</p>

<p>“Do we have a broken legal immigration system? Yes, we do. But I think the first step is going to be to restore the rule of law, to do it in a very pragmatic way,” said Ramaswamy.</p>

<p>“Those who have committed a crime should be out of this country. That is by the millions. That alone would be the largest mass deportation. Combine that with ending government aid for all illegals. You see self-deportations,” he added.</p>

<h2><strong>Trump and Ramaswamy</strong></h2>

<p>Once a rival in the Republican primaries, Ramaswamy has emerged as a close ally to Trump. He told ABC News that he was having “high impact” discussions about his future role within the Trump administration.</p>

<p>"There's a couple great options on the table. I want to have the biggest possible impact on this country. We're not going to sort that out in the press… we're having some high-impact discussions."</p>

<p>Speaking of Trump’s victory, Ramaswamy said, “I think he cares about uniting the country. I think that is Donald Trump's number one focus,” he said.</p>

<p>“He's also learned a lot from that first term, and I think he's going into this second term even to take to new heights some of the things he wasn't able to accomplish in the first term, which I think is going to be a good thing,”</p>

<p>He said that Trump’s focus on challenging the “deep state” has struck a chord across a broad base.</p>

<p>“Here's a big one. And Donald Trump talked for a long time about the deep state. But this idea of restoring self-governance is big in this new coalition. The idea that the people we elect to run the government, they haven't been the ones actually running the government for a very long time.”</p>

<p>“Donald Trump is going to be the president of the United States in the real sense of that word. Capital P president where he is actually making the decisions with the democratic will of the people behind him, not the unelected bureaucratic class underneath him,” he added.</p>

<p>He urged even Trump’s critics to give him a chance, asserting that many would be “pleasantly surprised” by positive changes under the administration.</p>

<p>“A lot of people across the country, even those who have bought into some false narratives about Donald Trump, are going to be pleasantly surprised to find more money in their paychecks, prices coming down in the country, and a secure border. Those are things most Americans actually care about.”</p>

<p>US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently engaged in their first post-election call, according to reports.</p>

<p>This is because distrust of career officials, especially after transcripts of calls from his previous term were leaked, has led Trump's team to bypass standard protocols. Instead, world leaders are “just calling [Trump] directly,” noted a person familiar with the calls.</p>

Peace prize for Trump? Italy's deputy PM floats Nobel for US president-elect if he ends Ukraine war

<p>Donald Trump is now the newly elected president of the United States. <em>Saturday Night Live</em>, which has consistently taken jibes at Trump, began on a sombre note on Saturday- &nbsp;the first episode since the election results were announced.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
A group of plainly dressed cast members, primarily women and minorities, described their new reality.&nbsp;“To many people, including many people watching right now, the results were shocking and even horrifying,” Ego Nwodim soberly said.</p>

<p>“Donald Trump, who forcibly tried to overturn the results of the last election, was returned to office,” Heidi Gardner said.</p>

<p>“And now,” Bowen Yang added, “thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guardrails.”</p>

<p>Then came the swerve from the liberal-leaning show.</p>

<p>“That is why we at ‘SNL’ would like to say to Donald Trump, we have been with you all along,” Keenan Thompson said.</p>

<p>Yang chimed in, “We have never wavered in our support for you, even when others doubted you.”</p>

<p>“Every single person on this stage believed in you,” Sarah Sherman said, while Marcello Hernández added, “Every single person on this stage voted for you.”</p>

<p>The cast members then declared their reverence for, and obedience to, the former and future president, introducing a new character, “Hot, Jacked Trump.”</p>

<p>Cast member James Austin Johnson, who plays a dead-on Trump and was virtually guaranteed a long-term job by the election, came out as an Adonis-bodied president-elect.</p>

<p>“From now on we’re going to do a very flattering portrayal of Trump, because frankly he’s my hero,” Johnson said in his Trump voice but speaking as himself. “He’s going to make an incredible president and eventually king.”</p>

<p>The episode, hosted by standup comic and actor Bill Burr, was the first all season that did not begin with former cast member Maya Rudolph, who played Vice President Kamala Harris in a giddy five-week run culminating with an appearance last week of Harris herself that began the show’s 50th season and brought a ratings spike.</p>

<p>Burr did a similar feint in his monologue, saying, “I don’t watch politics” and doing some standard standup including an airplane bit before doubling back to the elephant in the studio, the election.</p>

<p>“Alright, let’s get to what you all want to talk about. Alright ladies, you’re 0-and-2 against this guy,” he said. “But you learn more from your losses than your wins. So let’s get into the game tape. Ladies, enough with the pantsuit. Okay, it’s not working. Stop trying to have respect for yourself.”</p>

<p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FN3q8jZ04_E?si=2iYjWVWrQ3Z1ShbA" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></p>

<p>He suggested candidates that were a least a little more scantily clad, saying, “I know a lot of ugly women — feminists, I mean — don’t want to hear this message.”</p>

<p>Burr was “so psyched that this stupid election is finally over. Everybody knew who they were going to vote for four years ago. Then they just dragged us through a year and a half of this stuff,” he said.</p>

<p>Rudolph made no appearance as Harris on Saturday night, but former cast member Dana Carvey, who has played President Joe Biden all season, showed up as a leaping Elon Musk after the cast said they loved him, too.<br />

Yang chimed in, “We have never wavered in our support for you, even when others doubted you.” “Every single person on this stage believed in you,” Sarah Sherman said, while Marcello Hernández added, “Every single person on this stage voted for you.” The cast members then declared their reverence for, and obedience to, the former and future president, introducing a new character, “Hot, Jacked Trump.” Cast member James Austin Johnson, who plays a dead-on Trump and was virtually guaranteed a long-term job by the election, came out as an Adonis-bodied president-elect. “From now on we’re going to do a very flattering portrayal of Trump, because frankly he’s my hero,” Johnson said in his Trump voice but speaking as himself. “He’s going to make an incredible president and eventually king.” The episode, hosted by standup comic and actor Bill Burr, was the first all season that did not begin with former cast member Maya Rudolph, who played Vice President Kamala Harris in a giddy five-week run culminating with an appearance last week of Harris herself that began the show’s 50th season and brought a ratings spike. Burr did a similar feint in his monologue, saying, “I don’t watch politics” and doing some standard standup including an airplane bit before doubling back to the elephant in the studio, the election. “Alright, let’s get to what you all want to talk about. Alright ladies, you’re 0-and-2 against this guy,” he said. “But you learn more from your losses than your wins. So let’s get into the game tape. Ladies, enough with the pantsuit. Okay, it’s not working. Stop trying to have respect for yourself.” He suggested candidates that were a least a little more scantily clad, saying, “I know a lot of ugly women — feminists, I mean — don’t want to hear this message.” Burr was “so psyched that this stupid election is finally over. Everybody knew who they were going to vote for four years ago. Then they just dragged us through a year and a half of this stuff,” he said. Rudolph made no appearance as Harris on Saturday night, but former cast member Dana Carvey, who has played President Joe Biden all season, showed up as a leaping Elon Musk after the cast said they loved him, too.
