However, the number of new petitions for union recognition has decreased as a result of workers' claims that the company has been retaliating against them in stores and stalling negotiations.&nbsp;

Investors, particularly pension funds from New York City, submitted a resolution this year requesting that the company carry out a labor-rights audit, and Schultz will be challenged by senators during a hearing next week.&nbsp;

The United States has offered to sell Slovakia 12 new Bell AH-1Z Viper helicopters at a two-thirds discount after Bratislava sent its retired MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad said on Wednesday.

Nad said his government still had to approve the deal under which it would pay $340 million over three to four years for a package worth more than $1 billion.

Slovakia, a NATO member on the military alliance's eastern flank, currently has no combat helicopters.

Last week it became the second of Ukraine's allies, after Poland, to provide fighter jets, which Kyiv believes are crucial to repel Russia's year-long invasion.

Slovakia will also supply part of its KUB air defence system.

The best way to address concerns about national security is with the transparent, US-based protection of US user data and systems, with robust third-party monitoring, vetting, and verification, which we are already implementing," Shanahan added as per a CNN report.&nbsp;

According to a Bloomberg report, the company took out a four-page colour ad in New York Times on Monday. A QR code in the ad takes the person who scans it to a page where a cartoon video elaborates on how the video hosting platform has invested $1.5 billion in security.

The company also gave ads in the Washington Metro system, at Union Station and in the Washington Post along with sponsoring Politico’s Playbook newsletter and Axios’s tech-focused Login newsletter.&nbsp;

Moreover, in what appeared to be company's corporate strategy to distance itself from the Chinese government, TikTok earlier also took out&nbsp;ads in Australian newspapers. As per reports, a TikTok ad in The Australian read the tagline “Don’t make TikTok a political football."

There are also reports suggesting that TikTok has an "army of lobbyists" which is trying to change the opinion of influential people in Washington to avoid a ban on the Chinese app.&nbsp;

US will soon impose more sanctions on Myanmar&nbsp;to thwart all efforts by the junta in the Southeast Asian nation to generate revenue and procure arms. A senior State Department official said Wednesday that further sanctions will be announced in coming days, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

While speaking with media personnel in Jakarta, US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet said, "We're committed to ratchet up the pressure on the junta and make it harder for them to generate revenue, which is fuelling its war machine."

Chollet further said, "Myanmar is on the path to becoming a failed state in the heart of Southeast Asia."

Chollet added that Russia must stop its arms supply to Myanmar's junta. "One way that can happen is if the junta is no longer able to import arms and we would make a very large step in that direction if Russia were to stop supplying arms to Myanmar," he said.

The United States has been working to strengthen its relationship with ASEAN and its members over the situation in Burma. Chollet urged the grouping to exclude Myanmar's political representation from all of its meetings.&nbsp;

United States says that it will continue to support the pro-democracy movement in Myanmar to establish peace and multi-party administration.&nbsp;United States and other Western nations have already issued a number of sanctions that target the military government's agencies, enterprises, and people. According to Chollet, the US has sanctioned 80 people and more than 30 organisations in Myanmar so far.

Alleged payment of USD 130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 as hush money to hide an affair with him. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump has already asked his supporters to protest against his possible arrest. The last time he made such an appeal, hundreds of his supporters had stormed the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021.

If an indictment is filed against Trump, he would be the first sitting or former US president ever to be charged with a crime. Trump supporters were scheduled to protest in New York later Monday as Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg weighs charging the ex-president&nbsp;

Bragg, an elected Democrat, has not confirmed any plans to indict, but has indicated that prosecutors are nearing a decision by putting key witnesses in front of a grand jury in recent weeks and offering Trump the opportunity to testify.

"They are MANY years beyond the Statute of Limitations which, in this instance, is TWO YEARS. More importantly, THERE WAS NO CRIME!!!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Monday.

The New York Times reported that on Sunday, more than a dozen senior New York officials met senior safety aides of city mayor Eric Adams to discuss security and contingency plans for any protests.

NBC News said that police and other law enforcement agencies had conducted "preliminary security assessments," including placing a security perimeter around the Manhattan Criminal Court where Trump would likely appear before a judge.

"The NYPD's state of readiness remains a constant at all times, for all contingencies. Our communications and coordination with our partners in government and in law enforcement are fundamental tenets of our commitment to public safety," a police spokesperson told AFP.

Senior Democrats have warned that Trump's calls could trigger a repeat of the violence that his supporters unleashed on the US Capitol in January 2021.

The New York Young Republican Club announced a "peaceful protest" of Bragg's "heinous attack" on Trump for 6:00 pm (2000 GMT) in lower Manhattan Monday but it was unclear how many would turn out.

Trump has blasted the investigation as a "witch hunt," while his vice-president Mike Pence described the probe as a "politically charged prosecution."

US prepares for the unthinkable but possible arrest of a former president

Former President Donald Trump has predicted Tuesday will be the day he is indicted as an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney's office comes to a close.

They were informed that past military investigations had found no evidence that they were more at risk than the American population as a whole, as reported by the Associated Press.&nbsp;

The Pentagon found that air crew members had an 87&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;higher rate of melanoma and a 39 per cent&nbsp;higher rate of thyroid cancer, as well as a 16 per cent&nbsp;higher rate of prostate cancer for men and a 16&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;higher rate of breast cancer for women, in its year-long study of nearly 900,000 service members who flew or worked on military aircraft between 1992 and 2017. The risk of all cancers was 24&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;higher overall among flight crews.&nbsp;

The study found that while women had a seven&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;higher breast cancer risk, ground crews had a 19&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;higher rate of brain and nervous system cancers, a 15&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;&nbsp;higher rate of thyroid cancer, and a nine&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;&nbsp;higher rate of kidney or renal cancers. The total rate of all cancers increased by three&nbsp;per cent.&nbsp;

Additionally, some good news was reported. Lung cancer rates were much lower among ground and air crews, and air crews also had reduced rates of bladder and colon cancer.
