Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump, who has remained mostly out of public view as he completes high school, will make his first appearance in the political arena in July, as reported by AFP.

At the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, he will take on the role of delegate alongside his siblings to represent Florida. This convention marks the formal nomination of Donald Trump as the Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election, as delegates from across the nation gather to officially endorse their chosen candidate.

Barron will join his siblings Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Tiffany Trump as members of the Florida delegation, according to the state party's announcement.&nbsp;

Earlier this year, Barron was seen standing head and shoulders above his family members at his grandmother's funeral. While residing in the White House during his father's presidency, Barron was meticulously sheltered from public exposure by his mother Melania.

A recent study has suggested there are alarming health risks posed by cancer-causing flame retardants used in car seats. Notably, flame retardants are chemicals added to seat materials to reduce flammability and the spread of fire. The findings are as per a recent peer-reviewed research conducted in the United States, media reports said.&nbsp;

Flame retardants, which work by interfering with the combustion process and interrupting the chemical reactions,&nbsp;were initially introduced into car seat foam to comply with safety regulations set forth by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the 1970s.

The study, led by Rebecca Hoehn, a researcher from Duke University, found that these chemicals, present in car cabin air, significantly endanger the health of individuals spending prolonged periods in vehicles.

The study, which examined air samples from 101 cars manufactured in 2015 or later, revealed that nearly&nbsp;99 per cent of samples contained flame retardants deemed carcinogenic or potentially carcinogenic by government standards. Among these chemicals, 1-chloro-isopropyl phosphate, identified as a potential carcinogen by the US National Toxicology Program, was prevalent in virtually all samples.

Moreover, the study highlighted the presence of organophosphate ester flame retardants, which have been linked to various health issues in children, including impaired growth, asthma, neurological damage, and obesity. Alarmingly, certain flame retardants found in car seats have been associated with a reduction in IQ points among children.&nbsp;

Hoehn stressed on the importance of the findings saying, “Considering the average driver spends about an hour in the car every day, this is a significant public health issue.” She expressed particular concern for individuals with extended commutes and child passengers, as children take more breathes than adults in a minute.&nbsp;

Patrick Morrison, director of the International Association of Fire Fighters’ safety division, highlighted the ineffectiveness of these chemicals saying they do “little to prevent fires for most uses and instead make&nbsp;the blazes smokier and more toxic for victims, and especially for first responders."&nbsp;

While measures such as parking in shaded areas or rolling down windows may mitigate exposure, the researchers advocate for the elimination of flame retardants to address the root cause.&nbsp;

The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the US of trying to "unbalance" India's internal political situation to complicate the elections. Moscow referred to the US as a 'neo-colonial' power that lacks an understanding of India's national mentality, historical context, and the development of the Indian state. While Russia's criticism of the US is not new, is its analysis far-fetched? On this episode of Gravitas, we examine how biased reports emerged from the US, in the run-up to the Indian elections.

The US Commerce Secretary, Gina Raimondo, hinted at enforcing extreme measures such as a ban or strict rules against Chinese connected vehicles amid national security concerns. This&nbsp;move follows a national security investigation, which the Biden administration initiated earlier this year.

National security probe

While the U.S. Department of Commerce is reviewing public findings submitted by April 30, this investigation has also been initially conducted by the department into possible security violation threats posed by vehicle imports from China. Raimondo emphasised the need to analyse the data thoroughly before determining the appropriate action.

Potential actions

Raimondo mentioned that such an action as banning Chinese connected vehicles in the U.S. might be taken; however, the administration could also consider measures like requirements or safeguards that are designed to fix the situation from the security point of view.

Data collection concerns

The White House started the Commerce probe because of its worries about vehicles of Chinese origin collecting vast amounts of data on drivers and passengers. Raimondo also expressed the same apprehension pointing to the fact that the Chinese connected cars might be collecting much data about the Americans' activity.

President Biden's stance

President Biden expressed that he would try to restrain the growth of the imports of Chinese vehicles into the Unites States. However, it's noted that there are relatively few Chinese-made light-duty vehicles imported into the country at present.

Automakers' challenges

Automakers have raised concerns about the difficulty of overhauling their technology systems to address national security worries. They emphasised the extensive pre-production engineering and testing processes involved in vehicle systems, making it challenging to swap components from different suppliers.

Industry response

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing major automakers, highlighted the industry's commitment to developing frameworks for information and communications technology in connected vehicles to mitigate risks associated with Chinese-designed systems.

International perspectives

South Korea's automotive industry expressed concerns about the broad scope of the investigation and its potential impact on the industry. Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown urged Commerce to ban all Chinese internet-connected vehicles and smart vehicle technology.

Chinese response

Chinese foreign ministry responded to the criticism by praising Chinese cars as products resulted from market competition and technology innovation, instead of unfair methods.

In November, the bipartisan U. S. lawmakers jumped into the fray and expressed alarm over Chinese companies collecting sensitive data while testing autonomous vehicles in the United States which only gave more ammunition to the American national security concerns.

The U.S. administration's consideration of extreme measures against Chinese connected vehicles underscores the growing concerns surrounding data security and national sovereignty. Russia stands with its long-time ally India. Russia dismissed U.S' allegations against India regarding a foiled assassination plot against Pannun. Russian Foreign Ministry not only rejected the allegations but also accused U.S. of disrespecting India.

Pannun assassination plot: Russia backs India, questions US over lack of evidence

Russia has sided with India in a dispute with the United States. The US has accused an Indian intelligence official of plotting to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York, however, Russia claims US lacks credible information to support these accusations.

Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday (May 8), Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, “Washington has not provided any credible evidence so far that Indian citizens are involved in the plot to kill Pannun. Since there is no concrete evidence, the claims are not acceptable and they are regular groundless accusations by the US against New Delhi.”

Zakharova, took a swipe at the US government, saying they seem clueless about India's history and culture, as America continues to make unfounded accusations about religious freedoms. "Washington’s actions clearly constitute interference in India’s internal affairs… They are not respecting India as a state.”

Last year in November, US, via an indictment filed by the US Department of Justice in a federal court in Manhattan, stated that an Indian official was working with 52-year-old Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta in the plot to kill Pannun. Gupta&nbsp;was arrested by Czech authorities and charged with murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.

According to the indictment, the officer, referred to as CC-1, is a senior field officer with experience in security management and intelligence and is an Indian government agency employee.

In May 2023, CC-1 allegedly recruited Nikhil Gupta to assassinate Pannun in the United States. The indictment further claims that CC-1 assured Gupta of protection by stating his previous legal troubles in Gujarat would be taken care of and no one would bother him again.&nbsp;

Additionally, CC-1 reportedly offered to arrange a meeting between Gupta and a high-ranking police official.

Earlier this week, the Constitutional Court in Prague, which is the highest court of the Czech Republic, halted the extradition of Nikhil Gupta to the United States, as reported by The Indian Express.

Czech Justice Ministry spokesperson Markéta Andrová said that the court's decision meant the justice minister could not decide on extradition or refusal until the Constitutional Court decided on the merits of the complaint filed by Gupta.

United States President Joe Biden on Tuesday (May 7) cautioned of a "ferocious surge" in antisemitism during his Holocaust memorial speech amid a sharp rise in the number of Gaza protests in US universities.

"Never again simply translated for me means: Never forget. Never forgetting means we must keep telling the story, we must keep teaching the truth," Biden said as he addressed a bipartisan memorial held at the US Capitol's Emancipation Hall. "The truth is we're at risk of people not knowing the truth."

Biden, who has backed its staunch ally in the war against Hamas, said that Oct 7 was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

"This hatred (of Jews) continues to lie deep in the hearts of too many people in the world and requires our continued vigilance and outspokenness," Biden said.

<h2>'Hamas unleashed terror'</h2>

He then highlighted that the people must not forget that it was Hamas who first launched an attack against Israel on Oct 7 and "unleashed this terror".

"Now here we are, not 75 years later, but just seven and a half months later, and people are already forgetting ... that Hamas unleashed this terror," he said. "I have not forgotten, nor have you. And we will not forget."

He then laid stress on an alarming rise in antisemitism in the United States, including campuses that are roiled by demonstrations against the ongoing war in Gaza.

"We've seen a ferocious surge of anti-Semitism in America and around the world," Biden said.

The Jewish students enrolled in US universities have reported an increase in antisemitism since the Palestinian militant group Hamas' Oct 7 attack on Israel.

"There's no place on any campus in America -- any place in America -- for anti-Semitism or hate speech or threats of violence of any kind," Biden said.

Earlier, Israel's president also condemned the protests stating that US campuses were "contaminated" by hatred.

Biden's speech also comes against Israel's seizure of a key border crossing in Rafah in southern Gaza despite several warnings from the United States and amid the ongoing talks to broker a deal for the release of hostages held captive by Hamas.

US soldier Gordon Black, who was arrested in Russia, flouted army regulations by journeying to Vladivostok, Russia, without clearance, the Pentagon disclosed on Tuesday (May 7). Black, a 34-year-old Army staff sergeant, undertook this excursion after passing through China, while on personal leave from military duty.&nbsp;"Instead of returning to the continental United States, Black flew from Incheon, Republic of Korea through China to Vladivostok, Russia, for personal reasons," the US Army said in a statement.
