Sotheby's, the auction house, is set to sell an "ultra-rare" pair of Apple-branded trainers on its website, offering a unique opportunity to one fortunate buyer.

Believed to have been custom-made for employees in the late 1980s or early 1990s, these men's trainers, equivalent to a UK size 9.5, come with an air-cushioned heel. Though in "new" condition, they do show some signs of age, such as yellowing around the midsoles, glue marks, and light blemishes on the toe boxes.

<h2>Origins and history of the obscure footwear</h2>

The full history of these trainers remains unclear. Sotheby's claims they were originally given away as a one-time gift at a national sales conference in the mid-1990s, reported the Guardian.

However, in 2016, a pair was discovered at a garage sale in Palo Alto, California, and later listed for auction at a starting bid of $30,000 by Heritage Auction.

Leon Benrimon, Heritage Auction's director of modern and contemporary art, suggested that these sneakers were likely prototypes created for Apple during the late 1980s or early 1990s. According to him, only two pairs were made, with the other pair held in the Apple archives.

In the 1980s, Apple ventured briefly into a clothing and accessories line known as the Apple Collection.

Although a magazine released during that time displayed various company-branded items, including jumpers, sunglasses, a toy truck, and even a windsurfer, the trainers were notably absent from the collection.

In contrast, 22,000 Apple-branded shirts were sold a year before the clothing brand's launch.

Apple typically avoided manufacturing products outside its expertise, opting to partner with other brands like Lamy, Honda, and Braun, which would then add their branding to white-label products.

The shoes being auctioned showcase an almost all-white design, with the iconic multicoloured Apple logo adding a touch of retro charm. The auction will include a pair of red laces in the box for customisation.

56-year-old Choudary has been charged with membership of a banned organisation, leading a terrorist organisation and addressing meetings to encourage backing for an illegal organisation, said the police. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Choudary, who was once Britain's most high-profile preacher, was sentenced&nbsp;in the year 2016 for pressing support for Islamic State before being released in the year 2018 after serving half of his five-and-a-half-year sentence.

“On Monday, 17 July, Met counter-terrorism detectives investigating alleged membership of a proscribed organisation arrested a 56-year-old man in east London and a 28-year-old Canadian national at Heathrow Airport, after he arrived on a flight,” the Met Police said in a statement earlier.

“They were held under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and detectives were granted warrants of further detention allowing them to detain the men until Monday, 24 July,” the statement added.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) told the court on Monday that Choudary spoke to small groups online from June 2022 until his arrest, and gave lectures on the establishment of an Islamic State in Britain.

As per reports, co-accused Hussein effectively worked for Choudary in Canada.

“The charges relate to the proscribed organisation Al Muhajiroun, also known as the Islamic Thinkers Society. Criminal proceedings against Mr Choudary and Mr Hussein are now active and they each have the right to a fair trial,” said Nick Price, from the CPS Counter Terrorism Division.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings. The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges for a criminal court to consider,” he said. &nbsp;

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked the country's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vadym Prystaiko, on Friday, after he denounced the president's response to a row over British military aid.

Prystaiko had condemned Zelensky's sarcastic remarks to suggestions that came from British Defence Minister Ben Wallace that Ukraine should exhibit more gratitude for the arms and ammunition supplied by its allies.&nbsp;

Zelensky, in a decree that was published on the presidential website, signed the dismissal of Prystaiko. It did not cite the reason for banishment.

<h2>British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace warns Ukraine its allies are 'not Amazon'</h2>

The row began this month at the NATO summit in Vilnius when Wallace said in a press briefing that Britain was 'not an Amazon delivery service' for Ukraine and that Kyiv could express more "gratitude".

Wallace warned that Ukraine had to persuade US lawmakers and "doubting politicians in other countries that it's worth it", and that "whether we like it or not, people want to see gratitude".

Wallace, who was speaking on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Lithuania, while answering a question from a reporter about Zelensky's complaints that Kyiv had not been given a timeline for joining the alliance, recalled the time when he was handed over a shopping list of weapons during his visit to Ukraine.

"You know, we're not Amazon," he said, referring to the giant American tech and retail company. "I told them that last year when I drove 11 hours to be given a list."

The United Kingdom has been one of Kyiv's most persistent supporters since Russia's attack last year. It is the major donor of weapons and trains the Ukrainian troops. PM Rishi Sunak had also released a statement earlier saying that Britain and its allies will increase their support for Ukraine.

<h2>Zelensky says did not understand Wallace's comments</h2>

While responding to Wallace's comments at a press conference, Zelensky said, "We were always grateful to the UK, prime ministers and the minister of defence because the people are always supporting us," he said.

"I didn't know what he meant and how else we should be grateful. Maybe the minister wants something special but we have wonderful relations."

When asked about Wallace's comments, Sunak said that Zelensky had been grateful for the support given so far and that more support would be forthcoming as required.

"President Zelensky has expressed his gratitude for what we have done on a number of occasions," Sunak told a press conference at the summit in Vilnius.

"I completely understand Volodymyr's desire to do everything he can to protect his people and to stop this war, and we will continue to give him the support that he needs."

<h2>Ukrainian diplomat says Zelensky responded with 'a little bit of sarcasm'&nbsp;to Wallace's comments</h2>

The Ukrainian diplomat agreed with a suggestion from a Sky News interviewer that Zelensky had responded with "a little bit of sarcasm" to Wallace.

"I don't believe that this sarcasm is healthy. We don't have to show the Russians that we have something between us, they have to know that we are working together," Prystaiko added, stressing the need to smooth over relations with the UK.

"If anything happens, Ben can call me and tell me everything he wants," the diplomat said.

Prystaiko served as ambassador to the UK since July 2020. He was previously Ukraine's foreign minister from 2019 to 2020.

British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace warns Ukraine its allies are 'not Amazon' The row began this month at the NATO summit in Vilnius when Wallace said in a press briefing that Britain was 'not an Amazon delivery service' for Ukraine and that Kyiv could express more "gratitude". "I told them that last year when I drove 11 hours to be given a list." The United Kingdom has been one of Kyiv's most persistent supporters since Russia's attack last year. It is the major donor of weapons and trains the Ukrainian troops. PM Rishi Sunak had also released a statement earlier saying that Britain and its allies will increase their support for Ukraine. "I didn't know what he meant and how else we should be grateful. Maybe the minister wants something special but we have wonderful relations." When asked about Wallace's comments, Sunak said that Zelensky had been grateful for the support given so far and that more support would be forthcoming as required. "President Zelensky has expressed his gratitude for what we have done on a number of occasions," Sunak told a press conference at the summit in Vilnius. "I completely understand Volodymyr's desire to do everything he can to protect his people and to stop this war, and we will continue to give him the support that he needs." Ukrainian diplomat says Zelensky responded with 'a little bit of sarcasm' to Wallace's comments The Ukrainian diplomat agreed with a suggestion from a Sky News interviewer that Zelensky had responded with "a little bit of sarcasm" to Wallace. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community.
