'It’s not my thing': Trump on dropping out of 2024 US presidential elections, if convicted

The indictment and other ongoing criminal investigations of Donald Trump raise the real — if still remote — prospect that a leading contender for the 2024 presidential nomination could face prison time.

Explained: Can Trump run for president from prison?

Former President Donald Trump was back in New York on Thursday for questioning in a $250 million civil fraud lawsuit against him by the state's attorney general.

James filed the civil fraud lawsuit last September against Trump, three of his adult children, the Trump Organization and others. The suit accuses Trump of repeatedly overstating the values of his assets in statements to banks, insurance companies and the IRS in order to obtain better loan and tax terms.

Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against Michael Cohen, his former personal attorney who is expected to be a key witness in the criminal case the former US president is currently facing in New York. Cohen is being sued for $500 million in a US District Court in Florida for allegedly violating attorney-client privileges and a confidentiality agreement. The grand jury that finally indicted Trump heard testimony from witnesses including Cohen, making him the first US president, past or present, to be charged with a crime.
