Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appears to pull more support from former President Trump than President Biden in a hypothetical general election matchup, according to a new poll. A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday showed Biden narrowly ahead of Trump by 1 point — 47 percent to 46 percent, within the margin of error — in a head-to-head matchup. But with Kennedy in a three-way race, Biden is ahead with 39 percent to Trump’s 36 percent and Kennedy’s 22 percent.

<p>Former US president Donald Trump is using his campaign plank for next year's elections to inject himself into the Israel-Hamas war, and in the process, has been attacking Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who was once upon a time his close friend.</p>

<p>On various platforms this week, Trump lashed out at&nbsp;Netanyahu in the wake of the dastardly Hamas terror attack on Israel last weekend that left nearly 1,300 mostly civilian Israelis dead.<br />
<br />
It would have been unthinkable some years ago, as he shared a warm relationship with Netanyahu in the past.</p>

<p>On Wednesday (Oct 12), Trump said Netanyahu was caught unprepared for Hamas' attack even as he praising the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah as "very smart".&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the comments highlight the strained relationship between the two men, it also is a departure from other Republican contenders for president,&nbsp;all of whom have tried to portray themselves as steadfast supporters of Netanyahu.</p>

<p>“(Netanyahu) has been hurt very badly because of what’s happened here. He was not prepared...and Israel was not prepared,” Trump told Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade in an interview clip that aired Wednesday night.</p>

<p>Trump dug his heels into the same allegations at a campaign event in West Palm Beach, Florida.</p>

<p>“When I see sometimes the intelligence, you talk about the intelligence, or you talk about some of the things that went wrong over the last week, they’ve got to straighten it out because they’re fighting potentially a very big force,” Trump said about the alleged intelligence failure of Israel.<br />
<br />
On Hezbollah, he said: “They’re vicious, and they’re smart. And, boy, are they vicious, because nobody’s ever seen the kind of sight that we’ve seen”, Trump said regarding Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based militant group.</p>

<h2><strong>Trump and Netanyahu: How a friendship soured</strong></h2>

<p>Trump's new stance against Netanyahu is a sharp departure from the bonhomie the two had shared when he was in office, during which he embraced the Israeli prime minister at every opportunity.</p>

<p>Trump was an ardent supporter of Netanyahu during his term. The Iran nuclear deal was finally terminated by him in 2018, and he effectively sided with Israel in negotiations with the Palestinians by moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem and approving the annexation of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem into Israel. Trump also helped Israel reach the Abraham Accords, which set off a chain reaction of the Jewish nation's normalisation with several Arab countries.</p>

<p>The current hostility appears motivated by Netanyahu's openly approval&nbsp;that Joe Biden had won the 2020 presidential election.</p>

<p>In the months that followed, Trump had accused Netanyahu of disloyalty and fumed to Axios, “F*** him.”</p>

<p>Trump eventually complimented Netanyahu once he took back office in the latter part of last year, but his hostility towards him hasn't diminished, experts say.</p>

<p>Trump once more brought up his false claims of election fraud during the campaign event on Wednesday night, and he implied that the Hamas attack wouldn't have occurred if he were president.</p>

<p>“If the [2020] election wasn’t rigged, there would be nobody even thinking about going into Israel,” the former president told his supporters.</p>

<p>He also invoked the US government’s 2020 killing of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and claimed Israel declined to participate in the strike.</p>

<p>“I’ll never forget that Bibi Netanyahu let us down. That was a very terrible thing, I will say that,” Trump said. He was possibly referring to a last-minute pull-out by Israel from actively participating in the killing of Soleimani, who eventually died in a targeted drone assassination.</p>

<p>At the time, however, Netanyahu praised the strike after the fact, saying it was justified because Soleimani “was planning further attacks” on Israel.</p>

<h2><strong>What Netanyahu has to say</strong></h2>

<p>In the recent times, Netanyahu appeared to have shrugged off Trump's newfound hatred for him.<br />
<br />
When CNN pressed Netanyahu in his last interview with the network in September about whether the newfound hostility from Trump bothered him, the Israeli PM said, &nbsp;“I’ve been long enough in the political life to put aside the periodic ebb and flow of emotion and to look at the substantive positions that leaders and allies have done.</p>

Former US President Trump is back in court for day two of his civil fraud trial in New York City.

US: Trump civil fraud trial continues in New York

<p>During the second day of testimony in Donald Trump's civil fraud trial, Justice Arthur Engoron of the New York state court in Manhattan issued a gag order against him. The gag order came in response to Trump's social media post targeting Engoron's law clerk. The post came after the clerk was pictured with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is unrelated to the case. In his post, Trump referred to the clerk as "Schumer's girlfriend" and called for the immediate dismissal of the case.</p>

<p>Justice Engoron explicitly warned that any comments targeting his staff would invite "serious sanctions".&nbsp;“This morning one of the defendants posted on (a) social media account a disparaging untrue and personally identifying post about a member of my staff. Although I have since ordered the post deleted and apparently it was, it was also emailed out to millions of other recipients,” the judge said during the trial.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per reports, the sanctions could include potential fines and, in rare instances, jail time.</p>

Watch | Trump advocates shooting robbers in fiery California speech

US President Joe Biden has launched a wide-ranging attack on Republican Donald Trump, warning that his predecessor is a threat to American democracy and drawing a sharp distinction between himself and his likely 2024 election opponent.

US: President Biden warns Trump, 'MAGA' movement threatens American democracy

<p>The second GOP debate&nbsp;concluded Wednesday (Sep 27)&nbsp;with seven candidates vying for dominance on the stage. The participants included Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.</p>

<p>Donald Trump again skipped the event as he sees himself to be the undeclared GOP presidential nominee, a claim backed by poll numbers. The majority of GOP voters believe Trump would be the best candidate to stymie President Joe Biden’s bid for a second term.</p>

<h2><strong>Economic growth</strong></h2>

<p>Indian American candidate Ramaswamy talked about the ongoing United Auto Workers strike, saying that the country was in dire need to ‘unlock American energy.’&nbsp;</p>

<p>"What we need is to deliver economic growth in this country. Unlock American energy. Drill, frack, burn coal, embrace nuclear energy, put people back to work by no longer paying them more money to stay at home, stabilize the US dollar itself and rescind a majority of those unconstitutional federal regulations that are hampering our economy. That is how we unleash American exceptionalism,” he said at the event aired on Fox News.</p>

<h2><strong>GOP candidates on Donald Trump</strong></h2>

<p>Trump’s main rival in the Republican party,&nbsp;Ron DeSantis directly called out his absence at the event, saying, "Donald Trump is missing in action."</p>

<p>Apart from Chris Christie, all GOP candidates refrained from making direct attacks on the former president. The fact that Trump remains too popular among Republicans prevents his GOP rivals from being savage to him too harshly.</p>

<p>But Christie pulled no punches. “You're not here tonight because you're afraid of being on the stage and defending your record," he said, addressing the former president.</p>

<h2><strong>Immigration</strong></h2>

<p>On immigration, Chris Christie again took a shot at Donald Trump, calling his immigration policies a total failure. "Treat this like the law enforcement problem that it is," said Christie. "Our laws are being broken every day at the southern border. And Joe Biden and his crew are letting it go," he added.</p>

<p>"Donald Trump failed on this as well," he added while complaining that he failed to build his wall on the border with Mexico.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nikki Haley said border agents of the country were not being allowed to do their jobs honestly. "Go back to the Remain in Mexico Policy. Instead of catch-and-release go back to catch-and-deport," she said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ramaswamy said the US needed to militarise the border heavily. "Militarise the southern border, stop funding sanctuary cities and end foreign aid to Mexico and Central America," he said.</p>

<h2><strong>On China</strong></h2>

<p>DeSantis also talked about taking on China, a topic he dubbed as fundamental. "This issue of China is really going to be fundamental," he said, adding that it is essential that the US beat out China on the economy.</p>

<p>He added that the US has "contracted out the majority of our needs" to Chinese companies.</p>

<h2><strong>On Ukraine aid</strong></h2>

<p>DeSantis said he wouldn’t give Ukraine a “blank cheque” but added it was in the USA’s interest to end the war.</p>

<p>Tim Scott says 90 per cent of the resources sent to Ukraine are part of a loan that the US can expect to get paid back by NATO allies.</p>

The second GOP debate concluded Wednesday (Sep 27) with seven candidates vying for dominance on the stage. The participants included Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. Donald Trump again skipped the event as he sees himself to be the undeclared GOP presidential nominee, a claim backed by poll numbers. The majority of GOP voters believe Trump would be the best candidate to stymie President Joe Biden’s bid for a second term. Economic growth Indian American candidate Ramaswamy talked about the ongoing United Auto Workers strike, saying that the country was in dire need to ‘unlock American energy.’ "What we need is to deliver economic growth in this country. Unlock American energy. Drill, frack, burn coal, embrace nuclear energy, put people back to work by no longer paying them more money to stay at home, stabilize the US dollar itself and rescind a majority of those unconstitutional federal regulations that are hampering our economy. That is how we unleash American exceptionalism,” he said at the event aired on Fox News. GOP candidates on Donald Trump Trump’s main rival in the Republican party, Ron DeSantis directly called out his absence at the event, saying, "Donald Trump is missing in action." Apart from Chris Christie, all GOP candidates refrained from making direct attacks on the former president. The fact that Trump remains too popular among Republicans prevents his GOP rivals from being savage to him too harshly. But Christie pulled no punches. “You're not here tonight because you're afraid of being on the stage and defending your record," he said, addressing the former president. Immigration On immigration, Chris Christie again took a shot at Donald Trump, calling his immigration policies a total failure. "Treat this like the law enforcement problem that it is," said Christie. "Our laws are being broken every day at the southern border. And Joe Biden and his crew are letting it go," he added. "Donald Trump failed on this as well," he added while complaining that he failed to build his wall on the border with Mexico. "Go back to the Remain in Mexico Policy. Instead of catch-and-release go back to catch-and-deport," she said. Ramaswamy said the US needed to militarise the border heavily. "Militarise the southern border, stop funding sanctuary cities and end foreign aid to Mexico and Central America," he said. On China DeSantis also talked about taking on China, a topic he dubbed as fundamental. "This issue of China is really going to be fundamental," he said, adding that it is essential that the US beat out China on the economy. He added that the US has "contracted out the majority of our needs" to Chinese companies. On Ukraine aid DeSantis said he wouldn’t give Ukraine a “blank cheque” but added it was in the USA’s interest to end the war. Tim Scott says 90 per cent of the resources sent to Ukraine are part of a loan that the US can expect to get paid back by NATO allies.
