The sentence came within three weeks of Canada's Supreme Court striking down cumulative sentences for murderers. The provision of the criminal code dated back to 2011. It allowed judges to impose extremely long prison sentences on killers who caused numerous deaths.

The Court concluded that a prison sentence which "greatly exceeds the life expectancy of any human person is degrading by its absurdity and, therefore, contrary to human dignity".&nbsp;

"I'm definitely not satisfied," Elwood Delaney, whose grandmother died in the attack, told reporters. 
Minassian "sat there, showed no emotion, barely looked up at anybody reading an impact statement," adding, "I hold a lot of anger towards that man."

Police in Toronto, Canada are investigating after body of a young Black girl was found in a dumpster. Police are even looking at the homicide angle. The body has been found in the upscale neighbouthood in the city&nbsp;

As per media reports, the girl is between four and seven years of age. The body was found in Rosedale area of Toronto which is an affluent neighbourhood.

Police say that level of of decomposition suggests that the girl was dead last summer. According to police, the girl was African or mixed African descent. She was three and a half feet tall.

The Guardian reports that police think the body was dumped in the dumpster near a construction site between April 28 and May 2. The location is near a highway and close to an apartment building. Police have started looking for any video footage of the area although there were no cameras directly facing the dumpster.

The incident has been decried as "unspeakbale tragedy" by John Tory, Mayor of Toronto.

The body was found in Rosedale area of Toronto which is an affluent neighbourhood. Police say that level of of decomposition suggests that the girl was dead last summer. According to police, the girl was African or mixed African descent. She was three and a half feet tall. The Guardian reports that police think the body was dumped in the dumpster near a construction site between April 28 and May 2. The location is near a highway and close to an apartment building. Police have started looking for any video footage of the area although there were no cameras directly facing the dumpster. Prima facie, these instances don't look like organized attacks against Hindu temples and their properties and only petty attempts to steal money from temples.

After their original refugee applications in Hong Kong were denied, Kellapatha's family faced deportation.&nbsp;

He spoke of his relief at finally finding a place of permanent sanctuary.

"I'm so happy this is over. I'm so happy to be going to Canada," the South China Morning Post quoted him as saying before he and his family boarded a plane in Hong Kong.

"We have a new life, our children now have a future. We're so grateful right now. I am speechless... The kids are so happy. I'm so grateful."

“We are thrilled beyond measure to see this long ordeal finally come to an end for Supun, Nadeeka and their children,” Marc-André Séguin, president of For the Refugees, said in a statement. The nonprofit sponsored their applications for refuge status.

Ajith Pushpakumara, the seventh asylum seeker who sheltered Snowden, is still in Hong Kong.

He is also being helped by For the Refugees with his application, and it is anticipated that he will be able to relocate to Canada as well.&nbsp;

"Even today, he [Opelka] showed up, he played some really good points. He was fighting until the end, he saved break points in crucial moments. Playing your first [Masters 1000] final is not easy. I played my first in Canada and won only three games," Medvedev told atptour.com. 
 
"Playing Canada and Cincinnati, the goal is to win as many matches as possible. I was able to do it two years ago and I will try and do it again."

&nbsp;Rafa Nadal said on Sunday he had not yet fully recovered from a foot issue that kept him out of Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics but hopes a U.S. Open tune-up event in Toronto will help him to regain confidence in his on-court movements.

Nadal's first event since his semi-final loss at the French Open ended in a shock third-round exit in Washington on Thursday and the Spaniard admitted his left foot was holding him back.

Nadal said a recurring foot issue he has been dealing with since 2005 returned at Roland Garros, where he fell to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals before deciding to sit out two of the year's biggest events.

"Some moments the situation is worse and some moments the situation is better," said Nadal.

"After Paris my foot was not recovering. I was in a lot of pain for a couple of weeks so I couldn't train. I stayed around 20 days without touching a racquet, trying to recover."

They added that the clients who came in contact with the employee were asked to watch out for COVID-19 symptoms, however public health experts argue how many people have given legitimate contact information.&nbsp;

"You know how long it’s going to take them to chase down 550 guys, half of which probably gave fake ID or information," said Andrew Morris, a professor of infectious diseases at the University of Toronto told news agency Associated Press.

Toronto health authorities said their initial probe found the club not fully following required protocols, including social distancing between staff and customers among others.&nbsp;

"There are 500 people – you’ve got to practice social distancing, you’ve got to put on a mask – I know it sounds ironic talking about that – you have to," said Ontario Premier Doug Ford, reported The Guardian.&nbsp;

That star power secured a glitzy, red-carpet slot at Toronto's film festival for "The Sky is Pink," Chopra's first Hindi-language film in three years. It is the only Asian film on the prestigious gala lineup at North America's biggest movie festival.

"People get surprised when they see 'The Sky is Pink' and they're like, 'this is not a Bollywood movie.' Bollywood is not a genre!" Chopra told AFP ahead of the premiere Friday.&nbsp;

"It really is my quest to educate people in that."

Directed by Shonali Bose, "The Sky is Pink" tells the tragic true story of Aisha Chaudhary, an inspirational Delhi teenager whose life was cut short by a rare genetic disorder.&nbsp;

Chaudhary delivered a TED talk and wrote a book on her battle before her death in 2015 at the age of 18. But the film focuses on her parents, exploring how their marriage and love -- and even their sex life -- survived the loss of two children.

Until recently kissing was rarely shown in films made by conservative Bollywood, better known abroad for its colorful musical numbers and fairytale romantic plots.&nbsp;

'Dying wish'

"I don't think we haven't spoken about sexuality in Indian films -- we do," said Chopra, 37. "I think sexuality is spoken about in many different ways in Indian cinema."

"It's culturally sensitive, yes," she added. "India is an amalgamation of modernity and tradition. And this film is made by a modern Indian. So hence, you see what her language is. This is true to who she is."

Bose, whose own marriage ended after she lost her son, was approached by Chaudhary's parents to make the film.

Chaudhary had been a fervent fan of the director's work, and never fulfilled her "dying wish" to see Bose's previous film "Margarita With A Straw."

Bose told AFP she was moved by the request but chose to focus on the parents after learning of their "amazing" love story and care for their child.

"They wanted the film to be about their heroic dying teenage girl, and I don't feel she would've wanted to be on a pedestal -- actually she was really cool and humble," she said.

Chopra, who does not have children, said she drew on others' experiences, including Bose's, to play Chaudhary's mother Aditi.

But there is plenty of Chopra in the role too. At one point her character is described as "the 'almost' Miss India." Chopra herself was crowned Miss World in 2000.

Global outlook

As beauty pageants led to acting, Chopra, who attended school in the US, said she held onto her global outlook.

Also a singer, Chopra has released songs with US chart-toppers including Pitbull and The Chainsmokers.

"It's a genuine quest of mine to be able to cross-pollinate cultures, and to be able to take Indian cinema to the globe as much as I can," she said, adding: "It's not the language that's the barrier -- it is the fear of the unknown."

Movie-mad India has the largest film industry in the world in terms of the number produced -- up to 2,000 every year in more than 20 languages, according to industry data.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar regularly appears in Forbes' annual list of the world's top 10 highest-paid actors.

Former world number one Andy Murray is considering returning to singles action at Cincinnati next month, saying he is "closer than he thought" to be ready.

The 32-year-old has not played singles since losing in the first round of the Australian Open in January to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, after which he underwent hip resurfacing surgery in a bid to salvage his career.

He returned to doubles action at Queen's Club this year, winning the title with Spain's Feliciano Lopez, and also played men's doubles with Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert and mixed with Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray had previously said it was extremely unlikely he would be ready to play singles at the US Open but now believes a return on the Cincinnati hardcourts in two weeks' time is possible.

"I'm closer than I thought," Murray said at the Citi Open in Washington where he is playing doubles with brother Jamie.

"Best case scenario probably would be Cincinnati," he said.

"And then if I wasn't able to play in Cincinnati, there's a good chance I would probably wait until after New York, because I wouldn't want my first tournament, either, to be playing best-of-five sets."

Murray said he is practising singles in Washington and is also lined up to play doubles at the Rogers Cup next week in Toronto with Lopez.

"In terms of moving and feeling and waking up the next day, I'm feeling good," Murray said. "I'm quite close but there's stuff that would need to get better.

"I could (play singles), but to get where I would want to be I'd have to get back in the gym and get my cardio better."
