"The direct involvement of terrorists in the cross LoC trade and their contribution to fund terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir was one of the reasons to suspend cross LoC trade," another official said.

The government will revisit the issue of resuming the LoC trade after stricter measures and systems are put in place to address these issues.

New measures are expected to restore the benefit of LoC trade to local population only, rather than allowing terrorist organisations and unscrupulous traders based far away from these trading points to syphon off benefits and fuel instability in the valley, the official said.

At least 10 terrorists, who had crossed over to Pakistan, set up businesses across the border with the active aid of ISI and were involved in the recently suspended cross LoC trade to provide funds to terrorists and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

At least 10 terrorists, who had crossed over to Pakistan, set up businesses across the border with the active aid of ISI and were involved in the recently suspended cross LoC trade to provide funds to terrorists and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. These Jammu and Kashmir natives are either based in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in Pakistan or Muzaffarabad in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and operate businesses ranging from almonds, dry dates, dry fruits to mangoes as part of the modus operandi to send money to fuel unrest in Jammu and Kashmir on behalf of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, they said. "These 10 terrorists were using the cross-LoC trade between Jammu and Kashmir and PoK to fund terrorists and separatists in Jammu and Kashmir," a senior security official said. India last week indefinitely suspended cross-LoC trade at two points along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir following reports that it was being "misused" by elements from across the border to smuggle weapons, narcotics and fake currency. The LoC trade across Chakan-Da-Bagh and Salamabad was intended as a confidence-building measure for the population living in Jammu and Kashmir and across the Line of Control (LoC) in PoK. Security officials also gave details of the 10 terrorists and their businesses which were involved in the cross LoC trade. Mehrajuddin Bhat, a resident of Tral, had gone to Pakistan to join terrorism about a decade ago. Presently staying in Rawalpindi, Bhat set up 'Mehrajuddin Traders' to get involved in the cross LoC trade. Mehrajuddin's brother is also a registered LoC trader on the Indian side at the Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) at Uri. Nazir Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Pampore, had crossed over to Pakistan and joined terrorism. Presently staying in Islamabad, he runs the business through his firms the 'New Kashmir Traders' and 'New Kashmir Firm'. Basharat Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Budgam, had crossed over to Pakistan years ago and had joined terrorism. Presently staying in Rawalpindi, Bhat runs his business through the 'Al Nasir Trading Company'. Showkat Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Budgam, had crossed over to Pakistan and joined terrorism. Presently staying in Rawalpindi, Showkat's trading firm was 'Taha Enterprises'. Noor Mohammad, who hails from Budgam, had crossed over to Pakistan more than a decade ago and joined terrorism. Presently staying in Rawalpindi, Noor runs the business through his company 'Al Noor'. Khursheed, a resident of Srinagar, had crossed over to Pakistan and joined terrorism about eight years ago. Now living in Islamabad, he operates the business through M/s Khursheed and Sons. Imtiyaz Ahmed, who was originally from Budgam, had crossed over to Pakistan about seven years ago. Now staying in Muzaffarabad and was involved in the cross LoC trade through 'MIK Traders' and 'M/s Imtiyaz Traders'. Amir, a resident of Pattan in Baramulla, had crossed over to Pakistan and joined the terrorism. Presently living in Rawalpindi, Amir was an active LoC trader. Azaz Rehmani, who hails from Baramulla, had crossed over to Pakistan and joined terrorism. Presently staying in Muzaffarabad, Azaz has set up business entities in Muzaffarabad and Islamabad. A Baluch insurgent group on Thursday claimed responsibility for killing 14 people in southwest Pakistan, it said in a statement emailed to reporters and newspaper offices.

Fighters of Baloch Raji Aajoi Saangar carried out the killings, said the body, which described itself as an umbrella group of three Baluch separatist movements in the region, but denied that ordinary passengers had been targeted.

According to reports, the group set up in December last year targets Pakistani and Chinese military interests in restive Balochistan region where Chinese governments has hosted several projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

"Those who were targeted carried cards of the Pakistan Navy and Coast Guards, and they were only killed after they were identified," the group's spokesman, Baluch Khan, said in the statement.

Around 14 bus passengers were offloaded and shot dead by terrorists on the Makran coastal highway in Ormara, in Gwadar district of Balochistan in Pakistan.

The incident happened between 1:00 am-1:30 am. The terrorists stopped five-six buses travelling between Karachi and Gwadar, checked the identity cards of the passengers, separated a lot of labourers and then killed them.

Most of those killed belonged to Punjab.

Indian Army's urges to J&K mothers: Prevent your sons from becoming terrorists

Iran will take reciprocal action against the United States if Washington designates the elite Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as terrorists, a majority of Iranian parliamentarians said on Sunday, according to state news agency IRNA.

The United States is expected to designate the Revolutionary Guards a foreign terrorist organisation, three US officials told Reuters, marking the first time Washington has formally labelled another country’s military a terrorist group.

"We will answer any action taken against this force with a reciprocal action," a statement issued by 255 out of the 290 Iranian lawmakers said, according to IRNA.

"So the leaders of America, who themselves are the creators and supporters of terrorists in the (Middle East) region, will regret this inappropriate and idiotic action."

The US decision, which critics warn could open US military and intelligence officials to similar actions by unfriendly governments abroad, is expected to be announced by the State Department perhaps as early as Monday, the U.S. officials said last week. The move has been rumoured for years.

Iran's foreign minister said on Sunday US officials aiming to designate the IRGC as terrorist wanted to "drag the US into a quagmire" on behalf of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"#NetanyahuFirsters who have long agitated for FTO (Foreign Terrorist Organisation) of the IRGC fully understand its consequences for US forces in the region. In fact, they seek to drag US into a quagmire on his behalf," Mohammed Javad Zarif said on his Twitter account. "@realDonaldTrump should know better than to be conned into another US disaster."

Israel and Iran are arch-enemies in the Middle East.

Zarif appeared to be implying that classifying the Guards as terrorists would draw them into conflict with US forces in the region.

Netanyahu has described the Tehran government as a "terrorist regime" that threatens the world and promotes attacks worldwide in the name of radical Islam. Iran denies this.

IRGC commander Mohammad Ali Jafari also chimed in on Sunday over the pending US designation, warning the US military would lose all the security it enjoyed in west Asia.

"With this stupidity, the American army and security forces will no longer have today's calm in the west Asia region," Jafari was quoted as saying by semi-official Fars news agency.

Set up after the 1979 Islamic Revolution to protect the Shi'ite clerical ruling system, the IRGC is Iran's most powerful security organisation. It controls large sectors of the Iranian economy and has huge influence in its political system.

Iran will retaliate in kind if US designates Revolutionary Guards as terrorists: MPs

Iran may put the US military on its terror list if Washington designates the Iranian elite Revolutionary Guards as terrorists, a senior Iranian lawmaker said on Saturday.

The United States is expected to designate the Revolutionary Guards a foreign terrorist organisation, three US officials told Reuters, marking the first time Washington has formally labelled another country's military a terrorist group.

"If the Revolutionary Guards are placed on America's list of terrorist groups, we will put that country's military on the terror blacklist next to Daesh (Islamic State)," Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, head of parliament's national security committee, said on Twitter.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp was formed after the 1979 Islamic revolution with a mission to defend the clerical regime, in contrast to more traditional military units that protect borders.

The Revolutionary Guards have amassed strong power within Iran, including with significant economic interests.

The Guards' prized unit is the Quds Force, named for the Arabic word for Jerusalem, which supports forces allied with Iran around the region including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Lebanon's Hezbollah.

The Trump administration has already imposed sweeping sanctions on Iran after withdrawing last year from an international agreement under which Tehran drastically scaled back its nuclear program.

A foreign terrorist designation would make any activities of the group toxic for the United States, with any transactions involving US institutions or individuals subject to punishment.

The Wall Street Journal said that the Pentagon and the CIA had reservations about the move, saying it would increase risks for US troops without doing much more to damage the Iranian economy.

Crackdown on terror in J&K

China on Monday defended its controversial security crackdown in the fractious far west region of Xinjiang, saying nearly 13,000 "terrorists" have been arrested there since 2014.

Beijing has come under international criticism over its policies in the region, where as many as one million Uighurs and other mostly Muslim minorities are being held in internment camps, according to human rights groups.

The State Council, China's cabinet, hit back again with a white paper saying that the government "is relentless in striking hard, in accordance with the law, at any conduct advocating terrorism and extremism".

The document states that Xinjiang has long been part of Chinese territory but that "terrorist and extremist forces" have fomented separatist activities by "falsifying" the region's history.

"Since 2014, Xinjiang has destroyed 1,588 violent and terrorist gangs, arrested 12,995 terrorists, seized 2,052 explosive devices, punished 30,645 people for 4,858 illegal religious activities, and confiscated 345,229 copies of illegal religious materials," according to the white paper.

"The counter-terrorism work and the de-extremisation struggle in Xinjiang have always been carried out in accordance with the rule of law," it added.

The paper was quickly condemned by a Uighur rights group, which called it "a political excuse to suppress the Uighurs".

"The purpose of releasing the so-called white paper is a means of getting local support for its extreme policies and to cover up human rights abuses," Dilxat Raxit, spokesman of the exiled World Uyghur Congress, said in a statement.

Xinjiang, which shares a border with several countries including Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long suffered from violent unrest, which China claims is orchestrated by an organised "terrorist" movement seeking the region's independence.

China has previously denied the presence of the internment camps, but have in recent months shifted to calling them "vocational education centres" akin to boarding schools, with students checking involuntarily.

The "preventive measures" have brought a "marked change" in the region, with people having "a much stronger sense of fulfilment, happiness and security," the white paper said.

But former inmates have said they found themselves incarcerated for transgressions such as wearing long beards and face veils or sharing Islamic holiday greetings on social media.

Beijing has also gone on a public relations blitz in recent months, taking journalists and diplomats on tours to visit the region and the centres.
