Organisers of the protest, as per Times of Israel said some 120,000 demonstrators attended the Tel Aviv rally. Similar rallies reportedly took place in several places across the country.&nbsp;

The rally was also marked by clashes, speeches and massive banners one of which according to images from the protest read “Biden save them from Netanyahu,” seemingly speaking about the hostages, which Hamas took back to Gaza after attacking Israel on October 7.&nbsp;

Protesters, during the rally on Saturday, clashed with the police, according to Israeli media reports and videos on social media.&nbsp;

A report by Haaretz said two protesters were arrested and that the police used a sound cannon to disperse the thousands of demonstrators gathered.&nbsp;

Israeli news site, Ynet reported that the police had also brought a water cannon to the rally but did not use it.&nbsp;

At least 14 police officers including Chief Superintendent Avi Ofer and the deputy commander of the Tel Aviv Police Department, were injured during clashes with the protesters, reported Ynet.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Thank you, President Biden’</h2>

Protesters thanked United States President Joe Biden for his speech which called on the Israeli government and Hamas to accept the recent ceasefire proposal by Israel and end the ongoing war in Gaza.&nbsp;

Biden, on Friday (May 31) unveiled a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/explained-biden-details-new-three-phase-ceasefire-proposal-by-israel-amid-gaza-war-what-is-it-about-727842">three-phase Israeli proposal</a> to Hamas seeking to end the almost eight-month-long war. “A step away from a victory that will never come, we’re surrounded by enemies, the whole world’s against us,” said the former head of the finance ministry’s budget department, Shaul Meridor at the rally, referring to Netanyahu’s repeated claims that Israel is close to victory. &nbsp;

He added, “Last night, we received a reminder of what a real leader looks like, who cares for Israel’s future and not his own. Thank you, President Biden.”&nbsp;

Hostages and Missing Families Forum, on Saturday night also called for mass protests warning that there would be “very strong attempts to torpedo the deal”.&nbsp;

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, two members of the Israeli PM’s right-wing coalition, have threatened to quit if the latest Gaza ceasefire deal is accepted, potentially leading to the collapse of the governing coalition.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition Yair Lapid pledged to back the government if the Israeli PM accepted the plan.&nbsp;

Smotrich, in a post on social media, said he told Netanyahu he would “not be part of a government that agrees to the proposed outline and ends the war without destroying Hamas and bringing back all the hostages”.&nbsp;

Similarly, Ben-Gvir called the deal “reckless” and one that “constitutes a victory for terrorism and a security threat to the State of Israel”. He also vowed to “dissolve the government” rather than agree to the proposal.&nbsp;

Notably, Biden during his speech had warned that some people in the governing coalition have “made it clear” that they want to “occupy Gaza.”&nbsp;

He added, “Well, I’ve urged leadership in Israel to stand behind this deal, despite whatever pressure comes.”

<h2>What's happening to truce talks?&nbsp;</h2>

This comes a day after Israeli officials said diplomatic efforts were expected to resume in the coming days towards a truce and hostage release deal. Israeli media reported that intelligence chief David Barnea had agreed to a new framework for talks on a ceasefire in a meeting with America's CIA chief and Qatari mediators in Paris.&nbsp;

While speaking on condition of anonymity, an Israeli official told the news agency AFP on Saturday that "there is an intention to renew these talks this week".&nbsp;

However, senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan told Qatar's Al Jazeera network that so far "there is nothing practical on this issue. It is just talk coming from the Israeli side."&nbsp;

An 18-year-old Israeli hostage, who was held captive by Hamas for about 50 days, on Thursday (Apr 25) revealed that one of the captors of the Palestinian militant group proposed to her for marriage.

Noga Weiss was abducted from her home in Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7 when Hamas launched unprecedented attacks against Israel. She was released in a truce deal last year.

Noga, recalling the incident, said that the captor wanted to marry her and have kids.

“He gave me a ring on day 14 [in captivity], and I stayed with him until day 50,” The Times of Israel quoted Noga as saying.

“He told me, ‘Everyone will be released, but you will stay here with me and have my children’,” she recalled.

“I pretended to laugh so he wouldn’t shoot me in the head,” she further added.

However, Noga's mother Shiri, who was also abducted by the group on Oct 7, rejected the proposal and yelled at the captor until he understood.

Her 56-year-old father Ilan left the house at around 7:15 am to join the kibbutz emergency squad. However, he was never heard from again and was later confirmed dead.

“They started shooting at the door, something like 40 shots until they managed to get in. We saw the conversations on WhatsApp and understood what was happening. People were writing that their house was on fire and then stopped answering,” Noga said.

Shiri instructed Noga to hide under the bed thinking that upon barging inside the room the terrorists would not notice the 18-year-old and instead shoot the mother.

“I went under the bed, and they came in and took her. After they took her outside, I heard gunshots. I thought she was murdered and not kidnapped,” Noga said.

Noga, however, reunited with her mother several days later.

Meanwhile, the United States along with 17 other countries released a joint statement calling on Hamas to release all the hostages so as to end the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

"The fate of the hostages and the civilian population in Gaza who are protected under international law is of international concern," the statement added.

All the 18 countries that issued an appeal to Hamas have had their citizens held as captives by the Palestinian militant group for more than six months.

"It is vital that Palestinians act with unity in this process. The strongest response to Israel and the path to victory lie in unity and integrity," Erdogan said according to a Turkish presidency statement.

His remarks swiftly grabbed attention with opposition leader Yair Lapid commenting, "Never before a minister has done such heavy damage to the country's security, its image, and its international status."

"In an unforgivable tweet of one word, Ben Gvir managed to sneer and shame Israel from Tehran to Washington," he added.

"What we're focused on, what the G7 is focused on, and again, it's reflected in our statement, and in our conversation, is our work to de-escalate tensions, to de-escalate from any potential conflicts," he further said.

However, Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during a press briefing said that the United States was notified about the Israeli strikes way in advance.&nbsp;

"The United States was informed at the last moment," he said, adding that "it was just information" passed on -- without saying who by.&nbsp;

The Group of Seven ministers, in its final statement, said, "In light of reports of strikes on April 19th, we urge all parties to work to prevent further escalation. The G7 will continue to work to this end."

Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Aegean, and Air France are among the numerous carriers that have already started operating again to Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, White House and State Department officials on Tuesday (Feb 27) said that the negotiations over a temporary ceasefire are taking place but denied providing any details regarding the potential timelines.&nbsp;

White House's National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said that "significant progress" was made towards a deal last week to let hostages&nbsp;leave Gaza and facilitate bringing in humanitarian assistance.

"We're building on that progress this week and the president and his team remain engaged around the clock with multiple partners in the region," Kirby said.

"But as the president said just in the last 24 hours or so there's no deal as of yet. And there's a lot more work to do," he added.&nbsp;

Kirby said that the ceasefire would "hopefully" allow for a six-week pause, which will be much longer than previous pauses in the fight.

"Maybe that could lead to something more in terms of a better approach to end the conflict," he stated.

The others present in the emotional presser were 34-year-old Sharon Aloni Cunio, 41-year-old Nili Margalit, 62-year-old Aviva Siegel and 16-year-old Sahar Calderon, who were kidnapped by Hamas on Oct 7 when the militant group launched unprecedented attacks against Israel. They were released&nbsp;as&nbsp;part of a temporary truce deal with Israel in November.

The freed hostages came together after Netanyahu rebuffed Hamas' terms for a ceasefire deal saying that the victory was "within reach".

“We are on the way to complete victory. The victory is within reach,” said Netanyahu, during a press conference, adding that the war will be won in a “matter of months” not years.&nbsp;

The price is heavy, unbearable, but the price of negligence will become a stain for generations,” she said.

Calderon who was released along with her brother in November, said that she was desperately waiting for the return of her father who was still in captivity.

“I am alive and breathing, but my soul has been murdered,”&nbsp;said&nbsp;Cunio.

“I am grateful to the government for bringing me back, but what about my father who is abandoned anew every day, uncertain if he will live or die? I just want his warm embrace. Bring him back, do not make me lose faith in our country a second time,” she added.

Margalit, who was abducted from the Nir Oz kibbutz, said, “If the hostages do not return to their homes, every mother and father will know that they are next in line and that they live in a country that is not committed to their safety.”

Pretoria wants judges to order Israel to "immediately" end the Gaza campaign that began after the Oct 7 Hamas attacks.

At least 23,469 people, mostly women and children, have lost their lives in Israel's offensive, as per Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.

Becker said that South Africa had "regrettably put before the court a profoundly distorted factual and legal picture."

Israel rebuffs genocide charges by South Africa, calls allegations 'baseless'

Houthi military on Friday (Jan 12) said that overnight air strikes carried out by the United States and the UK had claimed the lives of five of the group's fighters and injured six others.

The military spokesperson for the Yemen-based group, Yahya Sarea said that the attacks would not go unpunished or unanswered.

"As part of its support for continued Israeli crimes in Gaza, the American and British enemy launched a brutal aggression against the Republic of Yemen with 73 raids targeting the capital Sanaa and the governorates of Hodeidah, Taiz, Hajjah and Saada. The raids resulted in the fall of five martyrs and the injury of six other members of our armed forces," Sarea said.

"The American and British enemies bear full responsibility for their criminal aggression against our Yemeni people. It will not go unpunished or unanswered. The Yemeni armed forces will not hesitate to target threatening sources and all hostile targets on land and sea, in order to defend Yemen, its sovereignty and independence," he added.

He further said that the group would continue to target ships that were headed for Israel.

"The Yemeni armed forces confirm that they will continue to prevent Israeli ships going to the ports of occupied Palestine from navigation in the Arab and Red Seas."

United States President Joe Biden released a statement saying that the air strikes targeting Houthis in Yemen were a "defensive action" and further warned he "will not hesitate" to give orders for further military action if required. &nbsp;

"Today, at my direction, US military forces -- together with the United Kingdom and with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands - successfully conducted strikes against several targets in Yemen used by Houthi rebels to endanger freedom of navigation in one of the world's most vital waterways," Biden said

"These targeted strikes are a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to imperil freedom of navigation," he added.

Israeli authorities probe suspected insider trading linked to Hamas attack

Israel allowed a "minimal" increase in the fuel supply to conflict-torn Gaza in order to prevent a "humanitarian collapse", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement.

"The Security Cabinet, this evening, approved the recommendation of the War Cabinet to allow a minimal supplement of fuel – necessary to prevent a humanitarian collapse and the outbreak of epidemics – into the southern Gaza Strip," Netanyahu's office wrote on X.

"The minimal amount will be determined from time to time by the War Cabinet according to the morbidity situation and humanitarian situation in the Strip," it added.

Israel's announcement comes two days after its staunch ally, the United States, called for more fuel to be allowed into the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The move also comes after the United Nations warned of a complete breakdown of public order in Gaza as the conflict intensifies in the south of the Palestinian territory.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he feared that the public order would "completely break down soon" in Gaza.

"Amid constant bombardment by the Israel Defense Forces, and without shelter or the essentials to survive, I expect public order to completely break down soon due to the desperate conditions, rendering even limited humanitarian assistance impossible," he said in a letter to the UN Security Council.&nbsp;

Guterres told the council in his letter that the war "may aggravate existing threats to international peace and security."

The United States also indicated that it expects Israel to avoid attacking areas that Israeli authorities have identified as "no-strike" zones in Gaza.

"Gaza will be a graveyard and a quagmire for the enemy, its soldiers and its political and military leadership," said Obeida.

The Nazis compelled Jews in Germany and other European countries, that it had occupied during World War II, to pin yellow stars onto their attire as part of a programme of persecution that peaked in the Holocaust. Nearly six million Jews were murdered in it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called Hamas' deadly Oct 7 onslaught the most alarming against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Other leaders too have drawn direct comparisons between Nazi persecution of the Jews and Hamas' surprise attack on Israel which claimed the lives of approximately 1,400 people, mostly civilians.

"The yellow patch symbolises the helplessness of the Jewish people and being at the mercy of others," he said on social media platform X.

A senior Israeli official on Saturday admitted that the current situation in Israel reflected the "mistakes" made by him and the ones making intelligence assessments.

"It's my mistake, and it reflects the mistakes of all those making (intelligence) assessments," National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi told a press briefing on being asked about his recent remarks predicting no Hamas aggression.

"We really believed that Hamas learned the lesson from&nbsp;its last major war with Israel in 2021," Hanegbi said.

He further rebuffed queries on any negotiations towards any prisoner swap deal with Hamas.

"There's no way to negotiate with an enemy we have sworn to obliterate," he said.

Last week on Saturday (Oct 7), the militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel breaching the Gaza border barrier. &nbsp;

The US intelligence community is believed to have briefed President Joe Biden about the assault by Hamas in the weeks ahead of the October 7 terrorist attacks, a CNN report has revealed.

As per reports, one update shared on September 28, which was backed by multiple intelligence inputs, indicated that Hamas was planning a massive rocket attack on Israel.&nbsp;

The second assessment was produced on October 5, when the country’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned of the increasing possibility of violence by Hamas.

On October 6, the day before Hamas’ assault, US officials reportedly circulated inputs that came directly from Israel. All of this indicated a massive Gazan attack on Israel.

It was unclear whether or not the US intelligence assessments were shared with the Israeli administration.

While the intelligence hinted at the possibility of violence, none of the inputs gave details or indicated the sheer scale and brutality of the attack.

Israel admits intelligence failure in predicting Hamas attacks

Major international air carriers have suspended or cancelled flight services in and out of the Israeli city of Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport after Hamas launched its surprise attack over the weekend and said that they are waiting for safety conditions to improve.&nbsp;

According to a report by flight tracking website, Flightradar24, about 50 per cent of the flights scheduled for Tel Aviv did not operate on Sunday (Oct 8) and one-third of the flights were cancelled on Monday as of 6:41 pm (local time).&nbsp;

<h2>What have the airlines said?</h2>

Indian air carrier Air India said that it would suspend the flights operating to and from Tel Aviv till at least October 14, “for the safety of our passengers and crew,” said the airline’s spokesperson, in a statement.&nbsp;

It added that they will provide all possible support to passengers who have confirmed bookings which have now been cancelled.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, American air carriers United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines, on Sunday, suspended direct flights to Israel following an advisory by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urging airlines to use caution.&nbsp;

Britain’s easyJet also halted flights to Tel Aviv on Sunday and Monday and said that it would adjust timings over the next few days.&nbsp;

Hungarian budget carrier Wizz Air has cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv until further notice.

Virgin Atlantic said it would continue to run some flights in and out of Tel Aviv but customers could rebook or request a refund until October 15.&nbsp;

<h2>What about Israel’s national carrier?</h2>

Israel’s flag carrier El Al being the exception, on Sunday said that it would maintain its Tel Aviv flights for now while some flights operated by foreign partners had been cancelled.&nbsp;

The airline said that it was operating “in accordance with the instructions of the Israeli security forces,” and all flights are now departing only from one terminal at the Ben Gurion airport.&nbsp;
