India continued their merry run in home Tests with a 2-0 series win over Bangladesh. On Day 5 of the second and final Test, on Tuesday (Oct 1), Rohit Sharma-led India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets, in chase of 95, to inflict a series whitewash. With this, India continue to remain unbeaten in home Tests with their last series defeat versus England in 2012/13. Thus, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja lauded Rohit &amp; Co. and feels that it is a dream for any visiting team to beat India in&nbsp;their own backyard.

<h2>'Bangladesh didn't have the capacity to challenge India'</h2>

Ramiz said on his YouTube channel, "India won the Test match easily against Bangladesh. At this point, India is the strongest team to beat on their home soil... Bangladesh had to do a lot to give a tough time to such a successful team because winning a Test match can only be a dream for any visiting team. Bangladesh didn't have the capacity to challenge India...."

Talking about the second Test, in Kanpur, India opted to bowl first on the opening day, on Sep 27, which ended early due to rain with the Bangla Tigers reeling at 107-3. Play resumed on Day 4, with the previous two days being washed out due to rain and wet outfield, as India dismissed Bangladesh for 233. The hosts batted with an aggressive intent to take a slender 52-run lead, declaring at 285/9 in 33.4 overs (scoring more than eight an over).

In their second essay, Bangladesh were 26-2 when play kicked off on the final day and folded for 146 due to three-fers from Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Chasing 95, India rode on Yashasvi Jaiswal's 51 to finish off the proceedings in style. India had won the series opener, in Chennai, by 280 runs.

Thus, India remain at the top of the WTC 2023-25 points table, with a win percentage of 74.24. They are well on course&nbsp;to make it to their third WTC final in a row.

India strongest at home, teams can only beat them in dreams: Ramiz Raja lauds Rohit Sharma-led side

India pacer Mohammed Shami's return to competitive cricket has been hit by a swollen knee during rehabilitation. Shami, who was last seen for India during the 2023 ODI World Cup at home, has reportedly done some damage to his leg. As a result, the speedster's right knee has flared up. While Shami kicked off his rehab process, his progress has been hit by a swollen knee, jeopardising his chances of making a return to the Indian team before the much-awaited India tour of Australia, featuring five Tests.

Shami has missed a plethora of series since the ODI WC, where he ended as the leading wicket-taker (24). While nothing is known regarding his availability&nbsp;for the upcoming home Tests versus New Zealand, starting Oct 16, it seemed he was targetting the Australia tour for a comeback. However,&nbsp;a BCCI source has reported that knee issues have hit his rehab process.

"Shami had resumed bowling, and he was looking on track to make a comeback to competitive cricket soon. But this knee injury has flared up recently. BCCI's medical team is assessing the injury, but it may require quite a bit of time," a BCCI source told TOI.

The source added, "It's a jolt for the NCA medical team. They have been working on him for over a year. They have one of the best workload management systems in place. The medical team is trying its best to put him back in the park soon."

Thus, Shami is running against time to be fit for the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under. India played the just-concluded two Tests versus Bangladesh, at home, with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. While the trio are set to be part of the Australia series, Shami's experience will also be required by Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. Given it will be tough for Bumrah and Siraj to play all five Tests in Australia, Shami's importance multiplies. Even&nbsp;the 34-year-old might not play all Tests, however, his limited appearance will also benefit India, who are aiming for their third successive Test series win in Australia.

After the NZ series, and a short SA tour, India's tour of Australia will kick off at Perth on Nov 22. It is a five-match Test series, including a day-night contest in Adelaide.

Blow to India before Australia tour! Md Shami's comeback hit by swollen knee during rehab - Report

Rohit Sharma opened up on his leadership style following India's 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh. Rohit, who was appointed as the all-format skipper in early 2022, revealed that he allows other players to give suggestions but takes the final call,&nbsp;trusting&nbsp;his gut feeling.&nbsp;Hitman's captaincy was praised by one and all after India beat Bangladesh in the second and final Test, in Kanpur, to inflict a series whitewash. The Kanpur Test was a rain-marred affair, with no play on Day 2 and 3, but Rohit &amp; Co. dismissed Bangla Tigers for 233 on the penultimate day and batted aggressively, scoring more than eight an over, to take a 52-run lead and then dismiss the visitors for 146. Chasing 95, India chased down the target&nbsp;to win by seven wickets on the final day.

Rohit was hailed for instilling a fearless attitude in India's batting line-up, as they scored 285/9 in 34.4 overs, and earned a win despite two washed-out days (due to rain and a wet outfield). Recently, Rohit spilled the beans on his leadership and how he operates with his players&nbsp;in terms of taking decisions on the field.

Rohit told BCCI.tv, "I have been (out) there enough to trust my judgements on what I do. The decisions that I take on the field, I then go by it. Obviously there are players around me who are open to giving suggestions but, at the end of the day, I trust my mind and my judgement and that's all that matters when you are playing."

The India Test and ODI skipper also hailed his side's catching during the just-concluded Bangladesh series. The home team plucked out some blinders in the series finale. Rohit said, "It may go unnoticed, but I was just informed 24 catches came our way, and we took 23, great result, especially in India, where the ball doesn't carry in slips and because they were standing way ahead than they normally do. The catches are hard to take as reaction time is very less."

"And I have seen everyone put in lot of effort in getting those things right. (T) Dilip (fielding coach) is actually helping the players with some crucial catches that's turning the game around," he added.

Rohit-led India's next Test assignment is a three-match series versus New Zealand at home, starting Oct 16 in Bengaluru.

Other players are open to give suggestions but...: India captain Rohit Sharma on his leadership style

Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed his gratitude to Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri for revamping his Test career by promoting him as an opener&nbsp;in late 2019. During the Kohli-Shastri era, the former captain and head coach insisted Rohit try his hand as an opener (following his tremendous white-ball success). The move paid dividends as it has revived Hitman's red-ball career. Till 2018, the right-hander played only 27 Tests and amassed&nbsp; 1,585 runs with three hundreds and 10 fifties. He wasn't even a regular in the Test line-up, but it all changed since his elevation at the top. Since becoming a permanent opener, Rohit has added 2,594 runs to his overall tally, including nine centuries and seven half-centuries.

<h2>'It felt like a second birth in Test cricket. I knew I had to grab this opportunity'</h2>

Speaking on Jatin Sapru's YouTube channel, Rohit&nbsp;acknowledged the impact of Kohli-Shastri and said, "In the second innings, I was very grateful to Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli for giving me the opportunity to bat up the order. It wasn’t an easy decision to promote me in Tests. They trusted me. They asked me to play one practice match, which I did. I got out on the very first ball, but I realized that I didn’t have any other choice. It felt like a second birth in Test cricket. I knew I had to grab this opportunity, whether it meant opening, batting at No. 5 or 6, or even lower down the order."

Rohit further opined, "My response to them (Kohli and Shastri) was clear: I’ll play my natural game and won’t take the pressure of trying to survive. I’m going to play freely. If the ball is there, whether it’s the first ball of the Test or not, I’m going to hit it. They gave me the freedom to do what I wanted." He added, "Ravi Bhai was very eager for me to open in Tests for a long time. He told me in 2015 that I should consider it as an option. He wanted me to open, but the decision wasn’t in my hands."

<h2>India whitewash Bangladesh</h2>

On Tuesday (Oct 1), Rohit-led India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to win the second and final Test in Kanpur, inflicting a 2-0 whitewash. Rohit was hailed for his aggressive captaincy as he pushed his side to go for a win despite the second and third day's play being washed out due to rain and wet outfield. Put in to bat first, Bangladesh ended a rain-marred opening day at 107-3. Play finally resumed on Day 4 and India bundled out the Bangla Tigers for 233 with a good bowling show.

In reply, Rohit asked his batters to go aggressive and aim for a lead. He himself started his inning with two big sixes. Riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal's 72 and KL Rahul's 68,&nbsp;India declared at 285-9, scoring more than eight runs an over, to lead by 52 and asked Bangladesh to bat again. At stumps on Day 4, the&nbsp;Najmul Shanto-led visitors were reeling at 26-2 and eventually got dismissed for 146 on the final day, on Tuesday, to&nbsp;set up&nbsp;a paltry 95-run target.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India chased down the target soon after lunch on the final day to win the series 2-0. Hitman's proactive and aggressive captaincy earned huge&nbsp;praises.

Yuvraj Singh, former Indian all-rounder, had a glorious run in&nbsp;international cricket. He retired with 8,701 ODI and 1,171 T20I runs along with 139 wickets in the two formats. In Tests, he scored 1,900 runs in 40 matches, along with nine wickets,&nbsp;and never was a force to reckon with in whites. India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs on Day 4 of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday (Sep 22). Riding on R Ashwin's 108, India posted 376&nbsp;and dismissed Bangladesh for a mere 149 before declaring their second innings at 287/4, with centuries from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, to set up a daunting 515-run chase. In reply, the Bangla Tigers folded for 234, courtesy of Ashwin's 6 for 88, to win and take a 1-0 lead. Soon after, BCCI announced an unchanged squad for the second and final Test, in Kanpur, which gets underway on Sep 27.&nbsp;

Former Indian batter-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar reflected on India's stunning win and called for the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav.&nbsp;

Talking on ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar said, "I feel Kuldeep Yadav should not be dropped so easily. Even if it was not a turner, India would have benefited from playing him in Chennai because seamers get help for just one or one-and-a-half days on an Indian pitch. It starts supporting spinners after that, and when you have a bowler like Kuldeep Yadav, you should not keep him out this easily."

"India should go with this approach in Kanpur. Even if it's a green top and the sun is out, they should keep in mind that the green top will be just for the first few hours, and Siraj and Bumrah are enough for that. When you have three proven spinners, you should play all of them," Manjrekar added.

Kuldeep was part of India's 4-1 Test series win, at home, versus England early this year. In four Tests, he ended with 19 scalps and was also part of Rohit Sharma-led India's victorious run in the 2024 T20 World Cup, in West Indies and the USA. He returned with 10 wickets at an average of 13.90 and an economy&nbsp;of 6.95. Thus, he is in great form and it would be interesting to see if he gets added to the playing XI for the final Test.

Former Indian batter-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar reflected on India's stunning win and called for the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav. Talking on ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar said, "I feel Kuldeep Yadav should not be dropped so easily. Even if it was not a turner, India would have benefited from playing him in Chennai because seamers get help for just one or one-and-a-half days on an Indian pitch. It starts supporting spinners after that, and when you have a bowler like Kuldeep Yadav, you should not keep him out this easily." Also read: SL vs NZ: Sri Lanka edge past Kiwis by 63 runs to win 1st Test in Galle, take 1-0 lead "India should go with this approach in Kanpur. He returned with 10 wickets at an average of 13.90 and an economy of 6.95. Thus, he is in great form and it would be interesting to see if he gets added to the playing XI for the final Test. Virat Kohli and India head coach Gautam Gambhir engaged in a freewheeling chat ahead of Rohit Sharma and&nbsp;Co.'s first Test versus Bangladesh, starting on Thursday (Sep 19) in Chennai. During the chat, Kohli and Gambhir touched upon various topics and talked about how brilliantly India climbed up the ladder as a Test side in recent times, especially during the former's captaincy tenure (from 2015-2022). Under Kohli, India were unbeaten at home and won a Test series in Australia, attained an unassailable 2-1 lead over hosts England in 2021 (a series which was halted for a year and eventually ended in a 2-2 stalemate post Kohli's tenure) and won two Tests in South Africa. In addition, India reached the pinnacle of the ICC Test rankings, and held the top spot for long, before also ending as runners-up in the inaugural WTC cycle (2019-21).

Thus, Gambhir lauded Kohli for transforming India's Test side after the departure of legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, etc. Kohli, who was 26 when he succeeded MS Dhoni as Test skipper, revamped the team – which was languishing at the seventh spot back then – by building a solid pace attack, stressing on lower-order runs and focusing on taking 20 wickets every game irrespective of playing at home or away.

<h2>'When I started thinking from the point of view where Indian cricket has, solutions came'</h2>

The chat commenced with Kohli recalling his plans as a Test captain&nbsp;after taking over post the departure of many stalwarts. He said, on BCCI.tv, "The thing that excited me about Test cricket and when I was coming up as captain was the challenge. We were transitioning when you guys had made way for a youngster team and Mahi bhai left Test captaincy. I was 25, so for me it was like 'I am here with a bunch of 24-25 year-old guys. How do we become household names?' We sat down and thought 'I really need to plan this out. This can't happen by chance'."

"When I started thinking from the point of view where Indian cricket has to be in 7 years' time, the solutions came. We need a group of fast bowlers. We need batters who can bat long. We need to give ownership to five batters and a keeper to get us 350-400. We can't have a seventh option. I remember the challenge excited me. I didn't feel like 'Oh my god! I don't want any part in this'. And that's when I was like I am all in," he stated.

<h2>'What you did brilliantly was that you had a really strong bowling unit'</h2>

To this, Gambhir joined in and said, "I can understand what you might have gone through. A 24-25 year-old boy taking up Test captaincy and then what you did brilliantly was that you had a really strong bowling unit. Test matches are won by taking 20 wickets. Till the time you don't have a strong bowling line-up, you won't [win]. And that is what made you the most successful Test captain in the country."

"Credit has to go to you because as a batter it is very easy to have a strong 6-7 batters putting runs on the board but the way you identified and more importantly, the attitude which you brought on the field from fast bowlers. Imagine having people like Shami, Bumrah, Ishant, Umesh and then winning overseas. I remember you playing that knock in Adelaide. We were chasing 400; it was your first game as captain, and you still wanted to win that Test match. That is the mindset, that is the culture we want to bring in," he added.

Kohli signed off with 40 wins in 68 Tests, ending as India's most successful Test skipper.

At present, Rohit-led India is commencing a hectic Test season with a two-match home series versus Bangladesh before hosting New Zealand in three Tests. After that, they will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series; i.e. the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Former all-rounder Suresh Raina backed Shubman Gill to become India's next T20I captain. Raina was all praise for the young right-hander, who is gearing up for India's first Test versus Bangladesh in Chennai on&nbsp;Thursday&nbsp;(Sep 19), and feels that if Gill can win the IPL as captain, where he leads the Gujarat Titans (GT), it will propel his chances to lead India in the shortest format. Gill was recently appointed as India's vice-captain in white-ball formats, during the Sri Lanka tour, and also led a second-stringed Indian team in five T20Is versus Zimbabwe, in the African nation.

Raina while speaking to news agency PTI said, "Shubman Gill is a superstar. Gill is vice captain. It means someone is thinking about him. If he does well in the IPL and win the trophy, he is the future (captain). He will be the next super star."

Gill has played 21 T20Is for India, scoring&nbsp;578 runs at a strike-rate of 139.27. He was not part of Rohit Sharma-led India's squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the Men in Blue beat South Africa by seven runs in an epic final to win the title. However, he is expected to be a regular in the playing XI following the retirements of Rohit and Virat Kohli.&nbsp;

Gill is currently gearing up for India's hectic Test season, where they first host Bangladesh (in two Tests) and then New Zealand (three Test matches) before travelling to Australia for a five-match Test series Down Under. The right-hander, with 1,492 and 2,328 runs in Tests and ODIs respectively, will aim for a good and consistent run vital points up for grabs for India in the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir lavished huge praise on bowlers such as&nbsp;R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja for shifting the nation's focus from its long-standing obsession with batting. Ahead of the Bangladesh Test series, at home, Gambhir feels Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja are&nbsp;Mohammed Shamin turning the country into a bowling-obsessed one with their performances.&nbsp;

In a pre-series press conference, Gambhir said, "You've got to give credit to (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami, (Mohammed) Siraj, (Ravichandran) Ashwin and (Ravindra) Jadeja. They're turning this nation into a bowling-obsessed one. Bumrah is the best bowler in the world. It's not just his performance. It's his hunger as well. And the best part is that he wants to play as much Test cricket as he can. It is not even a luxury. He can make a difference at any stage of the game. So yes, hopefully, he can do the same in this series and going forward as well."

During India's tour of Pakistan in 2004, the visitors played three Tests with the series opener in Multan. While the match is remembered for Virender Sehwag becoming the first-ever Indian triple centurion, who led India to an innings and 52-run win, stand-in captain Rahul Dravid also made heads turn with his shocking declaration call when India were 675 for 5, on the second day, after opting to bat first. His decision left Sachin Tendulkar stranded at 194*, which stunned many. Recently, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra -- who was part of the Indian Test team during the 2004 trip to Pakistan -- recalled Master Blaster Tendulkar's reaction post the shocking declaration.&nbsp;

Speaking on YouTube channel 2 Sloggers, Chopra said, "I was in the dressing room, but I wasn't part of that conversation. To be very honest, I didn't even try to get into it because I was too young. Yes, paaji wasn't happy that day. I think I saw him unhappy for the first time. I never saw him lose temper, and he didn't exactly lose temper that day but he was visibly unhappy. Something wasn't right."

India will host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, starting Thursday (Sep 19). The first Test will be held at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, before the action moves to Green Park, Kanpur. In his column for Mid-day, Gavaskar wrote, "By beating Pakistan in both the Test matches played in Pakistan, the Bangladesh team have shown that they are a force to reckon with. Post the 2024 T20 World Cup win, Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure came to an end and he was succeeded by Gautam Gambhir. Under Gambhir, India's first assignment was a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka where the Men in Blue whitewashed the Lankans&nbsp;in the&nbsp;T20Is (3-0) but lost the three ODIs 2-0. Ahead of the ongoing Duleep Trophy, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant -- who is representing India B in the domestic tournament -- spoke on the difference in working styles of former coach Dravid and his successor Gambhir.

<h2>'Dravid was very balanced, Gambhir is one-sided about the fact that you've to win'</h2>

Speaking on JioCinema, Pant said, "I feel Rahul bhai was very balanced as a human being and as a coach. It could be both good and bad. There are positives and negatives, and it depends on where individuals want to focus. Gauti bhai (Gambhir) is more aggressive, he's very one-sided about the fact that you have to win. But you need to find the right balance and improve."

Under Gambhir, India got off to a mediocre start but will look to make amends in their forthcoming home season, where they host Bangladesh for two Tests and New Zealand in a&nbsp;three-match Test series later. Soon after, India's litmus test will begin when they travel to Australia for a five-match Test series, i.e. the next edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting on Nov 22. It will be the biggest challenge for Gambhir since taking over as India's head coach.

Talking about Dravid, he took over as the India coach in late 2021 and served until the end of the 2024 T20 WC. He was initially set to end his term after the home ODI WC last year, however, he received a six-month extension. It proved to be a masterstroke as Dravid helped Rohit Sharma-led India end their 11-year-long ICC-title drought in the T20 WC, held in West Indies and USA.

Post the 2024 T20 World Cup win, Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure came to an end and he was succeeded by Gautam Gambhir. Under Gambhir, India's first assignment was a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka where the Men in Blue whitewashed the Lankans in the T20Is (3-0) but lost the three ODIs 2-0.

Ahead of the ongoing Duleep Trophy, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant -- who is representing India B in the domestic tournament -- spoke on the difference in working styles of former coach Dravid and his successor Gambhir. 'Dravid was very balanced, Gambhir is one-sided about the fact that you've to win' Speaking on JioCinema, Pant said, "I feel Rahul bhai was very balanced as a human being and as a coach. It could be both good and bad. There are positives and negatives, and it depends on where individuals want to focus. Gauti bhai (Gambhir) is more aggressive, he's very one-sided about the fact that you have to win. But you need to find the right balance and improve." Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin highlighted the major difference in captaincy of Rohit Sharma compared to his predecessors Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. After seniors such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly stepped aside, in the mid-2000s, Dhoni took over as the all-format captain before he passed the baton to Kohli. After Kohli, Rohit took over the reins and remains the Test and ODI captain to date. Under all three, India reached great&nbsp;heights. Ashwin, who made his international debut during Dhoni's captaincy era and has played the majority of his cricket under him, Kohli&nbsp;and Rohit, shared the captaincy difference between the three.

<h2>'Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on tactics'</h2>

In a recent interaction on Vimal Kumar's YouTube show, Ashwin was quizzed about the captaincy styles of the famed trio. Ashwin, a veteran of 100 Tests with 516 scalps in whites, stated, "2-3 things are nice about Rohit's captaincy. He always keep the environment of the team light. He makes an effort to keep it light. And he stays very balanced and tactically, he is strong. Both Dhoni and Virat were also tactically strong but Rohit works more on the tactics."

Ashwin further opined on Rohit, "If there is any big match or series coming up, Rohit sits with the analytics team and coach and prepares for it, like what's the weakness of a particular batsman, what's the plan of a bowler. That's his strength but he always keeps the environment of the team light and backs the players." He added, "If he selects a player in the XI, he backs them 100%. I have played most of my career with these three captains."

Rohit became the T20I captain in late 2021, succeeding Kohli,&nbsp;before being appointed the all-format captain in early 2022. Under him, India have won the 2023 Asia Cup (ODIs) and the 2024 T20 World Cup and ended as runners-up in the 2021-23 WTC cycle and 2023 ODI World Cup at home.&nbsp;

Talking about Dhoni, he led India to all three ICC titles (2007 T20 WC, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy). Under him, India became a confident white-ball unit but kept falling flat in overseas Tests. His successor Kohli changed India's fortunes, making them fearless travellers and also leading them to the No. 1 position in the ICC Test Rankings. Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj has launched a fresh attack on MS Dhoni for 'ruining' his son's career. Yograj, who has often slammed Dhoni, feels Yuvraj had more to offer to Team India but his career was cut short by four to five years due to former Indian captain Dhoni. Further, Yograj stated that Yuvraj deserved to be honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, for his services to Indian cricket during his illustrious career.&nbsp;

Talking to the Switch YouTube channel, Yograj said, "I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at himself in the mirror. He is a very prominent cricketer, I salute him. But what he did to my son is unforgivable. Everything is coming to light now, and it can never be forgiven."

He further added on Dhoni, "That man has ruined my son's life, who could have played for four to five more years. I challenge everyone to have a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said that there will never be another Yuvraj Singh.&nbsp;India should award him the Bharat Ratna for playing through cancer and winning the World Cup for the country."

Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket in 2019 with 1900, 8,701&nbsp;and 1,177 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively, played a key role in Dhoni-led India's victorious run in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup. In the 2011 ODI WC, at home, Yuvraj ended with 362 runs and 15 scalps to be awarded as the Player-of-the-Tournament. He stepped away from international cricket for a while soon after the WC win after being diagnosed with cancer. He overcame the deadly disease and returned to the national side in 2012 but was never able to cement his place in any format.

Moreover, Yuvraj and Dhoni played as many as 273 matches together for India, being the face of India's white-ball formats. They forged a successful pair in the middle-order but reports often surfaced on things not being great between the two when Yuvraj was ousted from the side. However, Yuvraj, in particular, has often rubbished such claims, saying that the two often shared a healthy professional relationship.

Virat Kohli has always been very supportive of the young Indian players. In Team India, he shares a great rapport with youngster Shubman Gill. Gill, who is often touted to be the next Virat Kohli, has formed some memorable partnerships with his senior, especially in Tests and ODIs, during his brief career. Recently, a video went viral where the 35-year-old Kohli is seen berating Gill's success in the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar, in Australia&nbsp;(where the right-hander&nbsp;made 259 runs in 3 Tests). The former Indian captain stated&nbsp;that the youngster has a 'long way to go' and&nbsp;'cannot be the next Kohli'. However, the video has turned out to be fake.

CEAT Cricket Awards: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid win big - Full list of awardees

Rahul Dravid opened up on the importance of creating and maintaining a vibrant team atmosphere that helped India during the home ODI World Cup last year. While Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue lost in the final, to Australia on Nov 19, the Dravid-led coaching staff continued to work tirelessly to carry&nbsp;forward the same energy during the 2024 T20 World Cup, in West Indies and the USA, which resulted in Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s historic win.

At the CEAR Cricket Rating Awards, Dravid revealed, "Honestly, I didn't want to do anything different. I think we ran a fantastic campaign in the one-day World Cup, Rohit and the team, everyone involved in that one-day World Cup, we ran a superb campaign. There's nothing we could have done more in terms of our preparation, the planning, the execution of what we needed to do for 10 games in a row to dominate, to win the game we did, play the game we did."

Ahead of the T20 WC, Dravid mentioned that he didn't want to bring in a lot of changes. He further opined, "I did not want to change anything. If you'd asked me and we had a discussion with our support staff, we'd get together with the coaches and say, what do you think we should do differently?

"The common consensus (among the team) was we need to do exactly what we did. We need to create the same energy, create the same vibe, the same team atmosphere that we had and then just hope that on the day, we'll have a little bit of luck," he added.

Initially, Dravid was roped in to coach India from late 2021 until the 2023 ODI WC, in mid-Nov. However, seeing India's dominance in the mega event despite ending as runners-up, the BCCI and captain Rohit insisted him to extend his tenure until the T20 WC, which kicked off in early June. The decision proved a masterstroke as Dravid-led coaching staff stayed and helped India win their first-ever ICC title after 11 years during the recently-held&nbsp;T20 WC.&nbsp;

New Zealand Test captain Tim Southee lauded India pacer Jasprit Bumrah during the just-held CEAT Cricket Rating Award ceremony on Wednesday (Aug 21) in Mumbai. On the sidelines of the event, Southee lavished huge praise on Bumrah for making a successful international return after a long layoff, due to back surgery, and termed him 'tremendous' across formats.

Bumrah was out of cricketing action in late 2022 due to a recurrent back issue. He, thus, missed a plethora of series and returned before last year's home ODI World Cup, where he ended with 20 wickets (fourth-most). He has been in roaring form since then. The speedster claimed 19 scalps in the India versus England home Tests early this year and played a key role in the Rohit Sharma-led side's T20 WC title-winning run, in the West Indies and the USA, in June. Bumrah returned with the Player-of-the-Tournament award in the T20 WC, accounting for&nbsp;15&nbsp;scalps at an economy rate of 4.17.

<h2>'We are just seeing a great version of Jasprit Bumrah'</h2>

On the sidelines of&nbsp;the award ceremony, Southee said, "To be able to firstly bounce back from the major injury and come back, he's even better than what he was beforehand. Throw in on top of that, having to juggle multiple formats, can be difficult at times as well. He seems to have been able to do that with ease as well. He's probably more experienced and understands his game a bit more. He probably had that time where he was injured to come back and be recharged, refreshed."

The New Zealander, who won the Men's T20I Bowler of the Year on Wednesday evening, added, "We are just seeing a great version (of Bumrah) across all three formats. He's brilliant across all three at the moment. I don't think there's anyone better than him, he is tremendous across all three (formats)."

Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since India's glorious win in the T20 WC final, beating South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. India is gearing up for their hectic home season, where they host Bangladesh and New Zealand later this year.

On the sidelines of the event, Southee lavished huge praise on Bumrah for making a successful international return after a long layoff, due to back surgery, and termed him 'tremendous' across formats. Bumrah was out of cricketing action in late 2022 due to a recurrent back issue. He, thus, missed a plethora of series and returned before last year's home ODI World Cup, where he ended with 20 wickets (fourth-most). He has been in roaring form since then. The speedster claimed 19 scalps in the India versus England home Tests early this year and played a key role in the Rohit Sharma-led side's T20 WC title-winning run, in the West Indies and the USA, in June. Bumrah returned with the Player-of-the-Tournament award in the T20 WC, accounting for 15 scalps at an economy rate of 4.17. 'We are just seeing a great version of Jasprit Bumrah' On the sidelines of the award ceremony, Southee said, "To be able to firstly bounce back from the major injury and come back, he's even better than what he was beforehand. Throw in on top of that, having to juggle multiple formats, can be difficult at times as well. He seems to have been able to do that with ease as well. He's probably more experienced and understands his game a bit more. He probably had that time where he was injured to come back and be recharged, refreshed." Also read: There is a reason I won five IPL trophies: Rohit Sharma eager to keep 'winning' post T20 WC success The New Zealander, who won the Men's T20I Bowler of the Year on Wednesday evening, added, "We are just seeing a great version (of Bumrah) across all three formats. He's brilliant across all three at the moment. I don't think there's anyone better than him, he is tremendous across all three (formats)." Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since India's glorious win in the T20 WC final, beating South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. He wasn't part of India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, which officially saw Gautam Gambhir succeed Rahul Dravid as the head coach. At the CEAT Awards, held in Mumbai on Wednesday (Aug 21), India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma won the&nbsp;Men's International Cricketer of the Year award. Post his win, Rohit lauded the 'three pillars', ex-head coach Rahul Dravid, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Secretary Jay Shah, for their constant support and labelled them as the reason behind India's historic 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, in June.&nbsp;

Post India's win in the T20 WC, held in West Indies and the USA, Rohit issued a warning to world cricket saying that he remains desperate to win more titles for India.

In the mega event, Rohit said, "It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much. That is what was required. I got a lot of help from my three pillars, who are actually Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. That was very critical for me to do what I did and obviously not to forget the players, who came in at different points in time and helped the team to achieve what we achieved."

Rohit further mentioned that he has won five IPL titles, as Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, due to his hunger to keep winning. Hence, he warned world cricket that India will continue to improve and aim to win more ICC events. Hitman added, "There is a reason I won five IPL trophies. I'm not going to stop, because once you get the taste of winning games, winning Cups, you don't want to stop and we'll keep pushing as a team. We'll keep striving for better things in the future."

Under Rohit and Dravid, India won the 2024 T20 WC in Barbados on June 29, beating South Africa in a thrilling final. Post that, the Dravid-led coaching staff stepped aside as Gautam Gambhir took over as India's coach, until the 2027 ODI WC.

Talking about the next ICC event, India are now focused on the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held in Pakistan early next year. Moreover, the Asian giants have a solid chance to once again enter the WTC final of the ongoing 2023-25 cycle. The finale will be held in June 2025.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has questioned the BCCI for India's lack of preparations heading into the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), to be held in Australia. The five-match Test series is set to get underway on Nov 22, in Perth, and the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will head into the marquee series after playing just one practice game, i.e. a two-day affair at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Hence, this has left Little Master Gavaskar worried given Australia are looking to regain the BGT for the first time since 2014.

Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day, "The news that the regular match for touring teams against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI has been reduced to a 2-day game is a disappointing one. By all means, rest the seniors and let them not even travel to Canberra for the game but give the newer younger players a proper first-class game rather than a 2-day game which will be neither here nor there. After all, the team are going there to play cricket and not to take rest."

<h2>'There's still time to change it to a 3-day game'</h2>

Gavaskar further insisted, "The Australians are thirsting for revenge and the Indians will have to be razor sharp to get a hat-trick of series wins there. There's still time to change it to a 3-day game and give the younger inexperienced players a better chance to succeed against the World Test Champions. C'mon BCCI, you can do it."

Pat Cummins-led Australia are desperate to win their first-ever BGT since 2014/15 edition, at home. Since then, Aussies have lost two away and home series each to their fierce rivals India.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India will have to be on their toes to make it three successive Test series win on Australian soil by winning the forthcoming BGT. However, it won't be an easy task against the reigning Test world champions.

Team is going there to play, not rest: Gavaskar SLAMS BCCI's preparation for India's tour of Australia

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has ruled out Ishan Kishan's comeback into the Indian team. Basit feels the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter will not be able to make a national comeback till the 2025 Champions Trophy, to be held early next year in Pakistan. Moreover, the ex-cricketer has advised Kishan to focus on IPL 2025 to stage a return in&nbsp;the Indian colours.&nbsp;

Kishan was part of Rohit Sharma-led India's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, at home. He even played the home five T20Is versus Australia, soon after the ODI World Cup, but hasn't played for India since he opted to return home midway during the tour of South Africa in Dec-Jan. Since then, he has not been picked in the Indian team, lost his central contract and is playing in domestic tournaments in order to make a comeback. However, Basit feels he should 'focus on IPL 2025' as he won't be able to make a comeback till the next edition of the Champions Trophy.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said, "Ishan Kishan needs to focus on the IPL now because he doesn't have a chance of returning to the Indian team till the Australia series. In fact, there's no chance till the Champions Trophy. Let's see what happens after that."

Currently, Kishan is leading Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu Trophy. He impressed one and all in his side's tournament-opener, where Jharkand&nbsp;beat Madhya Pradesh by two wickets. The southpaw scored an impressive 86-ball century in the first innings (114 off 107 balls)&nbsp;and remained unbeaten on 41 to guide his side to a narrow win.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, India is gearing up for a hectic home season -- where they will host Bangladesh and New Zealand -- before the away tours to&nbsp;South Africa and Australia. With Rishabh Pant's return, KL Rahul's rise as a white-ball keeper-batter&nbsp;and Dhruv Jurel's emergence,&nbsp;Kishan's comeback is not going to be easy by any means.&nbsp;

India have hosted only a handful of day-night Tests so far. The Indian men's team hosted its first-ever day-night Test, also their first overall, in late 2019 when Bangladesh toured India for two Tests. Since then, India have only hosted two more pink-ball Tests on Indian soil. Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah explained the board's reluctance to host day-night games in the purest format. Shah expressed how such contests end in 2-3 days, demeaning the traditional five-day format,&nbsp;and lead to loss for broadcasters as well as spectators.&nbsp;

During an interaction with TOI, Shah said, "You buy a ticket for a five-day match, but the game ends in 2-3 days…There is no refund. I am slightly emotional about this."

India defeated Bangladesh within three days when they hosted their first-ever day-night Test. The match was held at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata where Virat Kohli &amp; Co. won by an innings and&nbsp;46 runs. Post the Covid-19 outbreak, when India played their first&nbsp;Test series on home, they hosted England in a five-match series. The fourth and penultimate Test was held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. The contest also ended soon, in two days, with India winning by ten wickets.&nbsp;

The last day-night Test in India took place in early 2022, when Rohit Sharma took over as India's all-format skipper post Kohli's resignation as the red-ball skipper. It was the second and final Test between India and Sri Lanka, held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where the home side won&nbsp;by 238 runs. The contest again ended in three days.

While India isn't hosting day-night Tests, the national side will play a pink-ball Test during their upcoming tour of Australia, later this year. Before that, India will play host to Bangladesh and New Zealand -- with no pink-ball contest -- prior to their departure Down Under. In Australia, they play five Tests with the second match being a day-night contest, in Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. India's last day-night Test on foreign soil was also at the same venue, in late 2020, when Kohli-led India succumbed to an embarrassing eight-wicket loss after falling for 36 in their second innings.&nbsp;

Rahul Dravid ended his Team India coaching tenure post India's T20 World Cup triumph in June, in West Indies and the USA. As he made it clear that he wasn't keen on an extension, Gautam Gambhir replaced Dravid as India's all-format coach. Just like some other cricketing boards, like England Cricket Board (ECB), Cricket South Africa (CSA), Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB),&nbsp;many believed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would also not go for a one coach formula for all formats. However, the board stuck to the tried-and-tested approach while naming Gambhir as head coach across&nbsp;formats. Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah explained BCCI's stance on having one coach.&nbsp;

Speaking to The Times of India, BCCI secretary&nbsp;Shah explained,&nbsp;"We've to listen to the coach we recruit. Once we have selected Gautam Gambhir and if he is interested to coach in all three formats, who am I to say 'you can't coach a particular format'. More or less 70 per cent players are the same in all three formats."

Apart from having a new coach, there have been some changes at the leadership front as well. With Rohit Sharma's T20I retirement, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the new captain whereas the Hitman&nbsp;continues to lead the side in Tests and ODIs. While Shubman Gill was India's vice-captain in the&nbsp;white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

'Who am I to tell Gautam Gambhir..?', Jay Shah's take goes VIRAL on India's one coach stance

<section itemprop="articleBody">
Ahead of India's home season, former South African pacer Morne Morkel has been appointed India's bowling coach. His contract commences on September 1. The development was confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. Morkel was not able to join the Indian team during their recent tour of Sri Lanka, due to personal reasons. However, he is now set to take over as the bowling coach with the commencement of India's hectic home season.&nbsp;

Earlier, it was reported that current head coach Gautam Gambhir had recommended Morkel's name as the bowling coach, as per a report in Cricbuzz. The two played together during KKR's golden days, during Gambhir's captaincy tenure, and were also part of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s backroom team. The South African, thus, completes Gambhir-led coaching staff which comprises assistant coach Abhishek Nayar (batting) and T Dilip (fielding).

Morkel had a fruitful career at the international level. He represented South Africa in 86 Tests,&nbsp;117 ODIs and 44 T20Is. He accounted for 309 Test scalps -- including 18 five-fers -- 188 ODI wickets and 47 victims in T20Is. In the IPL, the 39-year-old featured for KKR, Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).&nbsp;

It will be interesting to see how Morkel -- who retired from international cricket in 2018 -- operates with Indian pacers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, etc.&nbsp;

Former India coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on India's senior players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin and&nbsp;Jasprit Bumrah. Dravid recently ended his coaching tenure with the senior men's cricket team, following the Rohit-led India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, and was all praise for the senior players, saying they are not at all difficult to manage. Dravid took over as India's full-time coach in late 2021 and held the post till this year's T20 WC, in West Indies and the USA. Under him, India played the WTC 2023 final, 2023 ODI WC final, won the Asia Cup (ODIs) and the T20 WC, to end their 13-year-long ICC title drought.

<h2>'Many think they have big egos and are very difficult to manage'</h2>

Speaking on the senior cricketers, Dravid told Star Sports, "There were a lot of other senior players as well, whether it was Virat, Bumrah, or Ashwin in Test cricket that we played. So many of them – just because a lot of Indian cricketers are big names, and they are superstars, and rightly so, and they’re followed by so many people – sometimes people think that they have big egos and that they are very difficult to manage."

He added, "A lot of these superstars are actually very humble about their preparation. They are humble about their work ethic. And that is why they are superstars. Look at Ashwin today; at this age, he’s willing to adapt, he’s willing to learn. So just one example. Of course, at times you have to manage them, manage their bodies, manage the workload, a lot of those things. But to be honest, it was not very difficult."

Post Dravid's end of tenure,&nbsp;former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has taken rein of the team until the 2027 ODI WC. Moreover, a lot of changes have happened in Indian cricket. Rohit, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is, with Suryakumar Yadav succeeding Hitman as the T20I captain. Rohit remains the Test and ODI skipper.

Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's head coach was the national side's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, which ended recently. Under Gambhir, Suryakumar Yadav-led India whitewashed the Lankans in three T20Is before succumbing to a 2-0 ODI series loss. The three-match ODI series exposed India's spin woes as the seventh-ranked Sri Lankan side made merry and won the series to shock the cricketing fraternity.&nbsp;The 2-0 series win was Sri Lanka's first bilateral triumph over India in the ODIs since 1997, after 27 years. Thus, Gambhir's tenure has started on a bittersweet note, however, former India&nbsp;and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Robin Uthappa has backed the new coach and vouched for his&nbsp;leadership ability.

Talking to the Times of India, Uthappa said, "He's always been someone who thrives under pressure and has consistently sought out big stages to deliver. As far as I'm concerned, I see the same qualities in him as a leader within this group."

Uthappa added, "He [Gambhir] will seek out major opportunities and strive to seize them. As a leader, I can vouch for his ability to create an environment that enables people to thrive. He is that kind of leader—more than just a great captain, he's also an excellent tactician and an exceptional leader of people. He fosters a culture within the group that encourages success. Gautam Gambhir is a leader who provides security to his players, and we have seen that in action."

The ODI series saw the return of captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The duo retired from T20Is after India's T20 World Cup triumph. Even the senior batters' return couldn't prevent India's shocking loss to Charith Asalanka-led side where Jeffrey Vandersay and youngsters such as&nbsp;Dunith Wellalage and Avishka Fernando made a mark for the hosts.

After the ODI series defeat, captain Rohit said, "These things happen, series loss is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss."

Under Gambhir, India's next assignment will be the home series versus Bangladesh, comprising two Tests and three T20Is starting next month.

Gaekwad was battling blood cancer for quite some time and struggling financially. Recently, the BCCI Secretary pledged INR 10 million (INR 1 crore) for his treatment after Gaekwad revealed his financial struggles to former cricketer Sandeep Patil. Along with Patil, Kapil Dev and other former cricketers&nbsp;such as Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, and Kirti Azad, worked towards raising funds to support Gaekwad.

MS Dhoni, who is enjoying his time off the field since IPL 2024, was recently asked by a fan, in an event, to name his current favourite bowler. Without second thoughts, the veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star named Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah was last seen in action during Rohit Sharma-led India's triumphant run in the 2024 T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA. The speedster ended as the Player-of-the-Tournament with 15 scalps, third-most, at an economy rate of 4.17.

When asked the tough question at the&nbsp;event, Dhoni said, "Current favourite, it’s easy to pick a bowler since Bumrah is there. It’s difficult to pick a batter because we have several good batters but that doesn’t mean bowlers aren’t good. It’s difficult pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best but then I see someone else he also looks great. As long as team India are doing fine, I don’t want to pick a batter but I hope they will keep scoring runs. However, I have picked my favourite bowler."

Notably, Bumrah made his international debut, in early 2016, under Dhoni's&nbsp;captaincy. Since then, the pacer has grown from strength to strength and is an integral part of the Indian team across formats [and also for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL].

In 36 Tests, Bumrah has 159 wickets whereas in 89 ODIs, the wily pacer has accounted for 149 scalps. He also has 89&nbsp;wickets in 70 T20Is.

Since Bumrah's return to competitive cricket following a back injury, in mid-2023, the 30-year-old has been in prime form.&nbsp;The Indian star claimed 20 wickets (fourth-highest) in the 2023 ODI WC, at home. He also ended with 19 scalps in India's 4-1 Test series win over England on home soil, early this year before shining in the T20 WC.

Talking about Dhoni, he was last seen on the cricket field during IPL 2024, where Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK failed to reach the playoffs and ended at the fifth spot. To date, there remains no clarity regarding Dhoni's IPL future.

It has been over a month since Rohit Sharma-led India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in West Indies and the USA. In the mega final, India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling clash at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. With this, Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure also ended, with Gautam Gambhir succeeding him. After India's win, the team was stranded in Barbados for a couple of days due to Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane had also prompted a 48-hour closure of the airport before BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a Chartered Flight (which comprised the players, team management and even journalists) for a lengthy 16-hour journey to New Delhi.&nbsp;

During the lengthy flight, a Star Sports producer, who was travelling with the team, shared details of what the players were up to. The energy was high as players hardly slept and the producer revealed that Dravid left business class and came to the economy whereas captain Rohit was seen jokingly 'scolding' someone.&nbsp;

As per a report in HT, the producer said, "On this flight, Barbados to Delhi, I think hardly anyone slept for more than six hours. That would have been the maximum. At no point was anyone quiet. Everyone was mingling around. Players came to meet the members of the press and few others. Star Sports engineers were also part of the flight because theirs was cancelled and they were also accommodated. But there was a lot of interaction. Rohit Sharma came several times. I believe at one moment, Rahul Dravid came up to the economy section to figure out if there was a 4-seater because he wanted to sleep. He came there from the business class and slept there for some time."

He further opined, "I remember I was sleeping and I could suddenly hear Rohit scolding somebody. I saw and he was standing right there. But Rohit, in his style was scolding jokingly. After that, Hardik came, Rishabh came and they were all having discussions with the media. So obviously, there was a lot of chatter."

Upon landing in India on July 4, the entire Indian team was cheered by the general public. Even the airport staff were seen clapping for the victorious Men in Blue. Despite a lengthy flight, the Indian team remained high in spirits and had a hectic day. They checked in at the ITC Maurya, New Delhi, where they were welcomed with drums and roar before leaving to meet PM Narendra Modi.

At present, the white-ball teams are in Sri Lanka with the three ODIs to kick off on August 2 (Friday). On Tuesday (July 30), the Suryakumar Yadav-led India whitewashed the Lankans in three T20Is.

Post the Dravid-era, India have moved onto a new period under coach Gambhir. While Rohit remains the Test and ODI captain, Surya has succeeded him, post Hitman's T20I retirement, in the shortest format.
