Other players are open to give suggestions but...: India captain Rohit Sharma on his leadership style

Rohit Sharma opened up on his leadership style following India's 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh. Rohit, who was appointed as the all-format skipper in early 2022, revealed that he allows other players to give suggestions but takes the final call,trustinghis gut feeling.Hitman's captaincy was praised by one and all after India beat Bangladesh in the second and final Test, in Kanpur, to inflict a series whitewash. The Kanpur Test was a rain-marred affair, with no play on Day 2 and 3, but Rohit & Co. dismissed Bangla Tigers for 233 on the penultimate day and batted aggressively, scoring more than eight an over, to take a 52-run lead and then dismiss the visitors for 146. Chasing 95, India chased down the targetto win by seven wickets on the final day.

Rohit was hailed for instilling a fearless attitude in India's batting line-up, as they scored 285/9 in 34.4 overs, and earned a win despite two washed-out days (due to rain and a wet outfield). Recently, Rohit spilled the beans on his leadership and how he operates with his playersin terms of taking decisions on the field.

Rohit told BCCI.tv, "I have been (out) there enough to trust my judgements on what I do. The decisions that I take on the field, I then go by it. Obviously there are players around me who are open to giving suggestions but, at the end of the day, I trust my mind and my judgement and that's all that matters when you are playing."

The India Test and ODI skipper also hailed his side's catching during the just-concluded Bangladesh series. The home team plucked out some blinders in the series finale. Rohit said, "It may go unnoticed, but I was just informed 24 catches came our way, and we took 23, great result, especially in India, where the ball doesn't carry in slips and because they were standing way ahead than they normally do. The catches are hard to take as reaction time is very less."

"And I have seen everyone put in lot of effort in getting those things right. (T) Dilip (fielding coach) is actually helping the players with some crucial catches that's turning the game around," he added.

Rohit-led India's next Test assignment is a three-match series versus New Zealand at home, starting Oct 16 in Bengaluru.
