<p>The grand spectacle unfolded at various venues, including the renowned Modhera Sun Temple, attracting a diverse array of participants ranging from families and students to yoga enthusiasts and seniors.</p>

<p>Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupesh Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi graced the event at Modhera, where Patel lauded the historical significance of the record-setting Surya Namaskar Thaki Gujarat.</p>

<p>“Om Suryaye Namah. The first day of the year 2024 turned out to be a wonderful confluence of yoga, spirituality, culture and health. The divine function of mass Suryanamaskar was organised in the premises of Modhera Sun Temple, the pride of Gujarat, as soon as the first ray of the sun fell on the temple,” he said in Gujarati in a post on X.</p>

<p>120 personnel each from the Indian and French Armies performed the 'Surya Namaskar' yoga posture and 'pranayama' breathing exercises, kicking off the first day of the Indo-France army exercise 'FRINJEX-23'. Being held at the Indian Army's Pangode military station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the two-day exercise is focused on Humanitarian Assitance and Disaster Relief (HADR).</p>

<p>The rationale behind the emphasis on HADR operations is the increasing threat of climate change and natural calamities and the need for strong nations and their armed forces to be prepared to offer succour to the affected population.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Indian and French forces undertake joint operations to validate their combat operations and tactics, an exercise dedicated solely to HADR operations is a first of its kind.</p>

<p>Speaking at the inaugural event, Major Atul Khoker, commander, Indian Army contingent expressed confidence that the exercise is an opportunity that will enrich both participating forces with knowledge and camaraderie. He said that it is an ideal platform to share operational expertise, experience, and skills while fostering interoperability and cooperation.&nbsp;</p>

Indian and French Army contingents commence Day 1 of 'FRINJEX-23' with yoga

<p>On the occasion of Gurpurab on Tuesday, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty&nbsp;successfully managed to do her first Surya Namaskar in three months. She had been on rest since August&nbsp;after sustaining a serious leg injury on the sets of 'Indian Police Force' that left her immobile.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taking to Instagram, Shilpa posted a video and also gave a quick health update. In the caption, she wrote, "'He who has no faith in himself can never have faith in God.' - Guru Nanak Dev ji."</p>

<p>She further added, "This teaching has stayed with me for many years now, and I believe very strongly in it. Believing in yourself and having faith that you can do anything you set your mind to is one of the best ways to lead a wholesome life."</p>

<p>The actress continued, "With this in mind - on the special occasion of Gurpurab, I practised the Surya Namaskara for the first time again, three months after my injury. Being able to achieve this milestone after being wheelchair-bound for weeks is an indescribable feeling."</p>

<p><strong>What is Makar Sankranti?</strong></p>

<p>Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan or Maghi or simply Sankranti, sam(n)kranti here means'transfer,' is the day when the Sun enters Capricorn.</p>

<p>Many native festivities are held all over India as the sun advances northwards in the Hindu calendar, devoted to the deity Surya (sun).</p>

<p>It refers to a specific solar day in the Hindu calendar. On this auspicious day, the sun enters the zodiac sign of Capricorn or Makar which marks the end of winter months and the beginning of longer days. This is the beginning of the month of Magh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The date of Makar Sankranti may change somewhat in leap years due to the addition of one day.</p>

<p>It falls on the 15th of January on leap years and the 14th of January otherwise.</p>

<p>Although there are 365.24 days in a year, we can only use 365 of them.</p>

<p>On leap years, we add an extra day.</p>

<p>The year Calendar is nearly one day behind the sun by the time of leap year, causing Makar Sankranti to fall on January 15th.</p>

<p>When the fix is made, Makar Sankranti is pushed back to January 14th.&nbsp;</p>
