In a&nbsp;paper&nbsp;that was published in&nbsp;The Astrophysical Journal, a team headed by a postdoctoral researcher at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Anna Trindade Falcao, spoke about the limits on telescope resolution which made the study of dual black hole systems difficult.&nbsp;

The team observed the images captured by the Hubble Space Telescope of a galaxy called MCG-03-34-64, which is around 800 million light years away from Earth.&nbsp;

Three glowing blobs were spotted by the scientists which indicated that the glowing oxygen gas, in compressed form, was present in huge amounts.&nbsp;

The two black holes appeared very close in visible optical wavelengths and looked like they had merged into a single entity.&nbsp;

NASA, in a statement, compared the black holes to “two Sumo wrestlers squaring off.”

With the help of NASA’s Chandra observatory X-ray telescope, the astronomers observed the powerful black holes within the blobs.

“We put these pieces together and concluded that we were likely looking at two closely spaced supermassive black holes,” Trindade Falcão said.

The scientists failed to figure out the source of the third blob of oxygen spotted by Hubble.&nbsp;

Such black holes, also known as active galactic nuclei, are found at the centre of galaxies.&nbsp;There is a possibility that the black holes started circling each other after their galaxies collided.&nbsp;

Interestingly, the proximity that the black holes share suggests that they should collide and merge, but they appear to remain locked in the same orbital dance close to each other for more than three billion years.

The team of scientists, who found the binary in the data which was collected by the Gemini North telescope in Hawaii, believe&nbsp;that the supermassive black holes are being stopped from merging because of their tremendous mass.&nbsp;

"Normally, it seems that galaxies with lighter black hole pairs have enough stars and mass to drive the two together quickly," said Roger Romani, a member of the team and physics professor at Stanford University, in a statement.&nbsp;

Two supermassive black holes weigh 28 billion times more than sun: Scientists

An "extremely red" supermassive black hole, growing in the shadowy part of the early universe has been unearthed by scientists using the&nbsp;James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) as part of the UNCOVER programme.

The fiery red colour of the quasar-like object is due to the expansion of the universe. As the universe pushes across in all directions, light travelling towards us gets "redshifted" and that light, in this case,&nbsp;indicates a cloak of thick gas and dust shrouding the black hole.

Through meticulous analysis, scientists concluded that the red light&nbsp;originated when the universe was still in its infancy, a mere 700 million years old.&nbsp;

Led by Lukas Furtak and Adi Zitrin of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the scientists also determined the mass of the supermassive black hole to be around 40 million times the mass of our Sun which makes it&nbsp;unexpectedly massive in comparison to the galaxy in which it resides.&nbsp;

"We were very excited when JWST started sending its first data. We were scanning the data that arrived for the UNCOVER programme, and three very compact yet red-blooming objects prominently stood out and caught our eyes," said Furtak about when they first stumbled upon the black hole.&nbsp;

The vast amount of radiation around the black hole caused it to take in a small-point-like appearance in JSWT data.&nbsp;

"Analysis of the object's colours indicated that it was not a typical star-forming galaxy. This further supported the supermassive blackhole hypothesis," said&nbsp;Rachel Bezanson, the co-lead of the UNCOVER programme.&nbsp;

"Together with its compact size, it became evident this was likely a supermassive black hole, although it was still different from other quasars found at those early times."

Space. com has reported that researchers from the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) collaboration analysed 68 rapidly spinning neutron stars (pulsars).&nbsp;These pulsar send radiation Earth's way at regular intervals. This makes pulsars a very precise 'cosmic clock' which is called "pulsar timing array'.

The squashing and squeezing of spacetime fabric due to gravitational waves when combined with pulsar timing array creates a detectable signal or "spectra" which can be studied by the scientists.

"The biggest thing that sets these gravitational waves detected by NANOGrav apart is the wavelength. These gravitational waves are much longer," Scott Ransom, a National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) astronomer and former chair of NANOGrav.

Supermassive black holes arise relatively soon after their galaxies are formed, devouring enormous amounts of gas, dust, and stars to achieve colossal size.&nbsp;

The pair in galaxy NGC 7727 is situated in the Aquarius constellation.&nbsp;

Astronomers suspected that the galaxy hosted the two black holes, but they had not been able to confirm their presence until now since we do not see large amounts of high-energy radiation coming from their immediate surroundings, which would otherwise give them away.&nbsp;

According to the study'e lead author, Karina Voggel, “It is the first time we find two supermassive black holes that are this close to each other, less than half the separation of the previous record holder.”

There are three categories of black holes. The smallest, like 'the Unicorn,' are so-called stellar-mass black holes formed by the gravitational collapse of a single star.&nbsp;

There are gargantuan 'supermassive' black holes like the one at our galaxy's center, 26,000 light-years from Earth, which is four million times the sun's mass. A few intermediate-mass black holes also have been found with masses somewhere in between.

“Our finding implies that there might be many more of these relics of galaxy mergers out there and they may contain many hidden massive black holes that still wait to be found,” says Voggel.&nbsp;

“It could increase the total number of supermassive black holes known in the local Universe by 30 percent.”

Indian researchers have now witnessed a merger of three supermassive black holes. This merger has caused formation of triple active galactic nucleus.

Ministry of Science and Technology made an announcement about this.

"...A team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics consisting of Jyoti Yadav, Mousumi Das, and Sudhanshu Barway along with Francoise Combes of College de France, Chaire Galaxies et Cosmologie, Paris, while studying a known interacting galaxy pair, NGC7733, and NGC7734, detected unusual emissions from the centre of NGC7734 and a large, bright clump along the northern arm of NGC7733. Their investigations showed that the clump is moving with a different velocity compared to the galaxy NGC7733 itself. The scientists meant that this clump was not a part of NGC7733; rather, it was a small separate galaxy behind the arm. They named this galaxy NGC7733N...," says a press release from the ministry.&nbsp;

This study has been published as a letter in journal Astronomy and Astrphysics. This study was conducted using the data from the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard the first Indian space observatory ASTROSAT, the European integral field optical telescope called MUSE mounted on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile and infrared images from the optical telescope (IRSF) in South Africa.

Indian researchers have now witnessed a merger of three supermassive black holes. This merger has caused formation of triple active galactic nucleus. Ministry of Science and Technology made an announcement about this. "...A team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics consisting of Jyoti Yadav, Mousumi Das, and Sudhanshu Barway along with Francoise Combes of College de France, Chaire Galaxies et Cosmologie, Paris, while studying a known interacting galaxy pair, NGC7733, and NGC7734, detected unusual emissions from the centre of NGC7734 and a large, bright clump along the northern arm of NGC7733. Their investigations showed that the clump is moving with a different velocity compared to the galaxy NGC7733 itself. The scientists meant that this clump was not a part of NGC7733; rather, it was a small separate galaxy behind the arm. They named this galaxy NGC7733N...," says a press release from the ministry. This study has been published as a letter in journal Astronomy and Astrphysics. This study was conducted using the data from the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard the first Indian space observatory ASTROSAT, the European integral field optical telescope called MUSE mounted on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile and infrared images from the optical telescope (IRSF) in South Africa.
