Sensex ends at record peak of 46,666, Nifty tops 13,650

IT Company Majesco Ltd on Tuesday announced that its board has approved payment of an interim dividend of Rs 974 per equity share for the financial year 2020-21.

This is one of the highest dividend payouts seen in recent times.

This interim dividend payout translates to an amount of Rs 2,788.4 crore on a shareholder base of 28.577 million shares. The balance cash reserves estimated at Rs 103 crore will be distributed subject to board and regulatory approvals.

Majesco will go ex-dividend on December 23 and the record date for dividend has been fixed at December 25. Earliest Dividend Payout will be done on December 30, Majesco said.

Majesco said the interim dividend payout is restricted to the quantum of free reserves as of September 30, ie Rs 2,788.4 crore or Rs 974 per share.

As a first step, distribution of balance cash of Rs 103 crore to the shareholder base of 28.577 million will be carried out as expeditiously as possible subject to board and regulatory approvals.

On monetisation of real estate, it said this could take longer i.e. over a year and depending on real estate market conditions. Post monetisation of real estate, the Company will decide best method for distribution of sale proceeds to shareholders.

The Majesco share price was trading at Rs 982.00, up by Rs 8.40 or 0.86 per cent.

Burger King India, which runs the franchise of Restaurant Brands International Inc's US chain Burger King, was trading at nearly double its initial public offering price of 60 rupees per share, signalling upbeat sentiment for the country`s foodservice sector.

Burger King's IPO was a positive signal for the fast-moving consumer goods market.

The company began its journey on Indian bourses with a stupendous opening garnering a premium of over 92 per cent on the first day of trade on Monday.

Against the issue price of Rs 60, Burger King Stock opened at Rs 115.35 on BSE, while on the National Stock Exchange, shares made a debut at Rs 112.50, a premium of over 87 per cent over the IPO price.

At 1 pm, the stock was trading at Rs 134.49 over 124 per cent higher than the issue price on BSE.

The performance of the stock had even defied projections made by analysts who had expected Burger King to list at around 70-75 per cent premium over the issue price.

"Such listing was in line with our expectation as the company issue was priced at a significant discount compared to listed peers such as Jubilant FoodWorks (Domino`s Pizza) and Westlife Development (McDonald). Short term investors can book profit. We advise long term investors to stay invested in the company as there is ample scope available for the company to increase its business in India," Keshav Lahoti, Associate Equity Analyst, Angel Broking Ltd said.

"Even after such bumper listing, there is no issue with the valuation of the company. In the future, we expect the company to gain market share by opening more stores compared to the competitors. As the store count will increase, operating leverage will kick in and the company will be able to report profit and it will lead re-rating of the multiple for the stock," he added.

Domestic equity benchmark indices, after having opened at fresh all-time highs on Wednesday morning, ended the day’s trading session deep in the red.

At close, Sensex was 694.92 points, or 1.56 per cent, down at 43,828.10 while Nifty was at 12,858.40, down 196.75 points or 1.51 per cent.

The strong selloff significantly eroded the market-capitalisation of BSE-listed firms. Investors lost about 2.2 lakh crore in a single day as the cumulative m-cap of BSE-listed firms dropped to Rs 172.6 lakh crore on November 25 from 174.82 lakh crore on November 24.

The S&amp;P BSE Sensex gained 250 points at 44,330 levels and the broader Nifty50 index hit the psychological level of 13,000 for the first time ever.&nbsp;

At 9:35, the 30-scrip BSE Sensex was up by 328 points or 0.74% at 44,404.71. Similarly, 50-scrip NSE Nifty was trading at 13,014.95, up by 88.50 points or 0.68%.&nbsp;

Maruti Suzuki gained 2 per cent and was the top Sensex gainer. Besides, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Larsen &amp; Toubro, ICICI Bank, and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra also gained 1 per cent, each.

ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys, and Reliance Industries (RIL) were the major contributors to the Sensex's gain today. Of 30 constituents, 27 advanced and three declined.&nbsp;

Most market participants are hoping the Biden regime would spell good news for Indian companies, especially IT, and domestic financial markets.

Coming back to domestic factors, investors will also focus on industrial production and inflation data, scheduled to be announced on Thursday.

World stocks moved higher on Wednesday despite the US election outcome being clouded by huge uncertainty that could end up in court.

Wall Street opened with gains as both President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden still had a path of victory with a handful of states still up for grabs.

The Dow climbed&nbsp;0.9 percent while the broader S&amp;P 500&nbsp;rose 1.6 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite jumped 2.7 percent.

European stock markets, which opened sharply lower after President&nbsp;Donald Trump said he would go to the Supreme Court to dispute the US vote count, turned higher in late morning deals and in afternoon trading they were all posting gains of over 1 percent.

Around 1330 GMT, London's benchmark FTSE 100 index was up 1.0 percent, while the pound fell 0.7 percent against the dollar.

In the eurozone, the Frankfurt stock market&nbsp;rose 0.9&nbsp;percent and Paris climbed 1.3 percent.

The euro was down around a tenth of a percent versus the dollar, while oil prices surged over 2 percent.

Asian indices mostly closed up but that was ahead of Trump declaring he would dispute the election.

The US election was plunged into chaos early Wednesday as Trump prematurely declared victory and sought Supreme Court intervention to stop vote-counting -- &nbsp;even as his Democratic rival Joe Biden voiced confidence in his own chances.

"With Donald Trump already claiming victory even though millions of votes are still uncounted, investors may have to belt up and brace themselves for some volatile sessions of trading ahead," noted Susannah Streeter, senior investment and markets analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown.

In a divisive election cast under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed more than 230,000 lives in the United States, Trump appeared to have avoided a Democratic wave predicted by some polls but he still needs key states to secure another four-year term.

Biden's White House campaign slammed Trump's threat to try to stop the election vote count as "outrageous", saying its legal team was ready to prevent such an "unprecedented" act.

'Nightmare situation'

"The US election has become a mess," said Naeem Aslam, chief market analyst at Avatrade.

"Basically, we are seeing a nightmare situation come true because now we are talking about legal battles. This uncertainty is going to keep traders on edge."

Aslam added that investors still saw the dollar as a safe bet amid the volatility on stock markets.

Before Wednesday's shock turn of events, world equities had rallied this week as traders piled bets on Biden winning, with opinion polls showing him with a big national lead though with slim advantages in battleground states.

While Tuesday was formally Election Day, in reality, Americans have been voting for weeks. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a huge expansion in mail-in and early voting, and nearly 100 million people had already cast their ballots.

While a failure for Biden and the Democrats would jolt markets, the general consensus is that whoever wins will still push through a major stimulus package for the struggling US economy as it battles the virus.
