Sensex closes 582 points higher, Nifty settles at 11,787

India’s benchmark equity indices ended with sharp gains today shrugging off a weak start in early morning trade.

The Sensex closed 582 points or 1.48 per cent, higher at 39,831.84, NSE Nifty50 settled 160 points, or 1.37 per cent, up at 11,786.85.

Globally, optimism over US-China trade deal and the European Union extending Brexit deadline to January 31 2020, also boosted sentiment.

All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the green except for Nifty FMCG.

During the one-hour muhurat trading on Sunday evening, it had made a dramatic gain of 17.8 per cent at Rs 149.55 per share despite recently reporting a standalone net loss of Rs 1,282 crore during the second quarter ended September 30.
