<p>The statue, which has been named "Statue of Equality", is a replica of the world’s largest Ambedkar statue located in India’s southern Hyderabad city which is 125 feet tall.</p>

<p>"We are calling it the Statue of Equality… this (inequality) is not only the problem in India, everywhere (in) different forms (it exists)," Ram Kumar, president of the Ambedkar International Center (AIC) told PTI news agency after the statue unveiling ceremony.</p>

<p>The AIC is a civil rights advocacy group which was formed in 2012 to fight against caste discrimination in the United States.</p>

<p>The AIC in Accokeek township is spread over 13 acres, some 22 miles south of the White House. It consists of a library, convention center, and Buddha Garden among others.</p>

<p>"This is a great occasion to participate in the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Babasaheb. This is the tallest statue of Babasaheb in America. ..After 75 years of independence, the people are realizing the works done by Dr. Ambedkar and that's the reason why day by day he's getting the popularity, …people are now understanding him in a proper way.</p>

The statue, which was inaugurated on Tuesday, with the aim of inspiring youngsters to emulate the maestro, triggered black flag protests at the site, with protesters accusing the state authorities of neglecting local football legends like Arjuna award winner and former India football team captain Bruno Coutinho, who also hails from Calangute.<br />

However, according to local BJP MLA and Ports Minister, Michael Lobo, the plan to install the 410-415 kg brass statue, depicting the living legend in action, has been in the offing for the last two years.<br />

"This is the first statue of Cristiano Ronaldo in India. This is nothing but to inspire our youth. If you want to take football to the another level, then this is what will inspire boys and girls by looking at him, taking selfies with him.<br />

"We require good infrastructure for our boys and girls to go there and play. Statue is only to inspire. We want good grounds from the government, good infrastructure and good coaches," he said.</p>

<p>Jens Dalschiot, Danish sculptor of a statue commemorating pro-democracy protesters during Tiananmen Square crackdown in China (1989) has asked Hong Kong authorities for immunity from national security law so that he can come and take back the sculpture to Denmark.</p>

<p>Galschiot had loaned the sculpture, called "Pillar of Shame" to a local civil society group the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China, in perpetuity.</p>

<p>The statue is made of Bronze and weighs two tonnes. In an open letter on Friday, Galschiot values the statue at around USD 1.4 million. He says that he was willing to take it back to Denmark, but that his presence in Hong Kong was necessary for the complex operation to go well.</p>

<p>Additionally, Galschiot asked for assurances that he would not be prosecuted under a sweeping national security law imposed by Beijing in 2020 to punish what it sees as subversion, secession, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces.</p>

<p>"I can understand from the press that the introduction of the new security legislation in Hong Kong means that there is a legal basis for arresting foreign nationals who engage in activities that criticise China," Galschiot wrote.</p>

<p>The statue's removal "will lead to activities and media coverage that could be perceived as criticism of China. Therefore, I will have to get a guarantee that my employees and I will not be prosecuted."</p>

<p>The university, the government's Security Bureau, and the Immigration Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.</p>

<p>The university gave the Alliance a deadline for the statue's removal, which expired a month ago. It said at the time it was seeking legal advice on what to do with it.</p>

<p>Democratic activists and some Western governments say the security law is a tool to silence dissent and push Hong Kong firmly on an authoritarian path. Chinese and city authorities maintain Hong Kong is still governed by the rule of law and individual rights and freedoms remain intact.</p>

Tiananmen statue sculptor requests immunity from Hong Kong security law

<p>In what has been deemed as a "once-in-a-lifetime" discovery, archaeologists have unearthed Roman statues in a mausoleum under an old church. The discovery was made while working on a high-speed railway project in a small English village.</p>

<p>While archaeologists were excavating a circular ditch around what was considered the foundations of an Anglo-Saxon tower, they discovered three stone busts that appeared to be Roman.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Two of the busts include a head and torso which had been split before deposition. The third one comprises just a head.&nbsp;<br />
It has been concluded that the statues belong to one female adult and one male adult, along with the head of a child.</p>

The statues are exceptionally well preserved, and you really get an impression of the people they depict literally looking into the faces of the past is a unique experience. Of course, it leads us to wonder what else might be buried beneath England’s medieval village churches."</p>

<p>Apart from the statues, a well-preserved hexagonal glass Roman jug was also discovered. The jug had large pieces still intact despite being buried for years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Archaeologists have concluded that the square building that pre-dates the Norman church is a Roman mausoleum.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The artefacts will be taken to a specialist laboratory where they will be further examined. However, the final destination for the finds is yet to be determined.<br />
