For a brief period in the mid-1980s, the Soviet Union had two operational space stations: Salyut-7 and Mir.&nbsp;Having two space stations in the same inclination would also enable easy rescue in case of any emergency. He referred to how the lessons learned from Salyut space stations were applied in the Mir space station, and how the lessons from Mir were passed on to the Russian module of the ISS. Russia proposes full tech transfer for Su-57 fighter jet production in India ahead of Putin visit

Russia has accused the United States of meddling in the domestic affairs of India. Russian foreign ministry accused the White House of complicating the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and described the interference as a "colonial period mentality".&nbsp;

Moscow stated that Washington has not yet provided any reliable evidence of the baseless claims of involvement of Indian citizens in the murder plot of a Khalistani terrorist in that country.&nbsp;

The foreign ministry responded to a question regarding a recent report by the Washington Post, which claimed that an Indian intelligence officer hired a hit team to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.&nbsp;

Last year in November, US federal prosecutors charged an Indian national with collaborating with an Indian government official in the failed conspiracy to assassinate Pannun, who was designated as a terrorist by India under the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. &nbsp;

Zakharova further added that the US lacks an understanding of India's national mentality and history. She slammed the report for making "unfounded accusations" about religious freedoms in India.&nbsp;

"Regular unfounded accusations by the United States against New Delhi... we see that they groundlessly accuse not only India but also many other states... of violating religious freedoms are a reflection of the United States' misunderstanding of the national mentality, the historical context of the development of the Indian state and disrespect for India as a state," she said.&nbsp;

But Russian energy continues to be procured by various countries across the world, including many countries in Europe. 75 per cent of Russia's total natural gas exports are to OECD Europe like Germany, Italy, France.&nbsp;

Other European countries like the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Romania remain large importers of Russian crude oil.&nbsp;

Sources highlighted that the, "jump in oil prices after the Ukraine conflict has now added to our challenges" and "the pressure for competitive sourcing has naturally increased".&nbsp;

India has not been importing crude from Iran and Venezuela even as New Delhi has been looking for sources that are not high cost.&nbsp;

India imports 85 per cent of its crude oil requirement, which translates into five million barrels a day with most of the imports from West Asia.&nbsp;

In West Asia, India imports, 23 per cent of its oil from Iraq, 18 per cent from Saudi Arabia, and 11 per cent from the United Arab Emirates.&nbsp;

The US accounts for 7.3 per cent of India's crude oil imports and could reach 11 per cent this year. Russia contributes to less than 1 per cent of Indian crude oil demand and there is no government-to-government pact for any import plan.

On Thursday, Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in response to a question on importing Russian oil said, "as you're all aware, India does import most of its oil requirements. So it's met by imports.&nbsp;

So, we are always exploring all possibilities in global energy markets, because of this situation that we face of importing our oil requirement", adding, "Let me just highlight that a number of countries are doing so (importing Russian energy), especially in Europe".&nbsp;

In the aftermath of the fallout on the Russian energy sector, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had spoken to India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and invited Indian investment into the Russian oil and gas sector.&nbsp;

It was later reported that Indian state-run oil company Indian oil cooperation has brought 3 million barrels of Russian crude oil at a discounted price.&nbsp;

Sources pointed out that India has to focus on "competitive energy sources" and "we welcome such offers from all producers. Indian traders to operate in global energy markets to explore best options".

West has announced a number of sanctions on Russia and President Putin in the aftermath of invasion of Ukraine, but sources in Delhi explained that they "avoid impact on energy imports from Russia" and Russian banks which are the main channels for European Union payments for Russian energy imports have not been excluded from SWIFT.&nbsp;

India imports 85 per cent of its crude oil requirement, which translates into five million barrels a day with most of the imports from West Asia. In West Asia, India imports, 23 per cent of its oil from Iraq, 18 per cent from Saudi Arabia, and 11 per cent from the United Arab Emirates. The US accounts for 7.3 per cent of India's crude oil imports and could reach 11 per cent this year. Russia contributes to less than 1 per cent of Indian crude oil demand and there is no government-to-government pact for any import plan. On Thursday, Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in response to a question on importing Russian oil said, "as you're all aware, India does import most of its oil requirements. So it's met by imports. So, we are always exploring all possibilities in global energy markets, because of this situation that we face of importing our oil requirement", adding, "Let me just highlight that a number of countries are doing so (importing Russian energy), especially in Europe". In the aftermath of the fallout on the Russian energy sector, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak had spoken to India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and invited Indian investment into the Russian oil and gas sector. US reacts to reports that India planning to take up Russian discounted oil offer

Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu highlighted the importance of defence cooperation between Russia and India during his meeting with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday (December 6). He said he is confident that both countries will help in enhancing "regional security".&nbsp;

Russia's defence minister and his Indian counterpart, along with India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Russia counterpart Sergey Lavrov, held a 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in the Indian capital.&nbsp;

The crucial meeting comes ahead of Russian President, Vladimir Putin's visit to India during which he will meet Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The meeting is their first in-person meeting since the BRICS summit in November 2019.

It is expected that both countries will sign more than 10 agreements following the talks between PM Modi and President Putin. These agreements will be in the fields of space, culture, science and technology, defence etc.&nbsp;

Russia's Ambassador to India Nikolay Kudashev has said his country and India have a special and strategic relationship in the real sense of the word because of the efforts put in by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Speaking on the occasion of Day of Russia celebrations at the embassy on Tuesday evening, Ambassador Kudashev said, "The presence of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the celebrations to mark this day at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi not only reminded many of the glorious past which both countries so proudly cherish, but it also reflects the rebuilding of the trust, which according to some quarters has been fading."

The Russian Embassy in New Delhi hosted a lavish reception on Tuesday evening to mark the day which saw the entire premises lit up in a colour theme matching with their national colours. The White Hall saw a gathering of hundreds of guests - influential Indian politicians and public figures, businessmen and officials, cultural and scientific celebrities, activists of Russian-Indian friendship societies, journalists and representatives of Russian companies.

The celebration was also attended by diplomats from various countries.
