An Indian lawmaker from Gujarat’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is being praised by many after a clip of him jumping into the river and saving three people from drowning went viral on social media.

Rajula Hira Solanki, a lawmaker of the state assembly from Rajula constituency, was at the spot when the whole incident took place.&nbsp;

On May 31 afternoon, four youths ventured into a creek near a seashore in Patwa village for a swim. However, they were overwhelmed by strong currents and powerful waves and started getting drifted towards deep water.

As the youths started screaming for help, Solanki, who just happened to be at the spot, heard and rushed towards them. He was then able to rescue them with the help of some other people.

Three out of the four youths were rescued. But the fourth, Jeevan Gujaria, died due to drowning. His body was found in the evening.

Solanki and his brother Purshottam Solanki have been members of the Gujarat legislative assembly since 1998, representing Bhavnagar.

This is the third incident that has taken place last month. On May 20, six members of a family drowned in the seawater in the city of Bharuch, more than 300 kilometres from Patwa.&nbsp;

The incident took place at Dajej Beach in Bharuch when a family hailing from Muller Village had gone for a picnic.

On May 14, five children in Gujarat's Botad district drowned in the Krishna Sagar Lake. According to local media reports, two children were swimming in the lake when they started drowning. Following this, three others jumped into the lake to save them and eventually, they also drowned.

For instance, China named the two rivers as “Qiburi He” and “Geduo He”, however, it did not provide the co-ordinate of both the rivers, as its civil affairs ministry simply claimed that these were “specific locations”.

The exercise was dismissed by the official sources as China's “mere mischief” ahead of the Cope India IAF-US Air Force air combat exercise to be held from April 10 to 21 at Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal.

The list was released by China’s ministry of civil affairs on April 2, using both Tibetan and Chinese pinyin - which is the system of writing native words and names in the Latin alphabet on the basis of pronunciation.

The list, which was the third of its kind, was described by China as an “addition of publicly used place names in southern Tibet” along with administrative districts, select co-ordinates and categories.

China's list included one entry of a settlement named “Jiangkazong”, whose co-ordinates are of a house mapped to Tawang town, which is west of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

The list includes co-ordinates of another settlement named “Dadong” which refer to a large open space marked as part of Tato town in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh as per Google Maps.

China has renamed another “piece of land” as “Guyutong” which actually is a forest clearing near Lohit River's western bank, north of Kibithoo in eastern Arunachal's Anjaw district.

While claims made by China have been dismissed by India, the Chinese foreign ministry has been asserting “sovereign right” on the 11 places listed. It continues to claim that they belong to “Zangnan, the southern part of Tibet”.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, in a statement, said that the United States opposed any “unilateral attempts to advance a territory claim by renaming localities”.

The bus was travelling from Lugo to Vigo when it fell from a height of about 30m (98ft) into the fast-flowing river on Christmas eve (Saturday).

On Monday, the officials pulled out two survivors —the vehicle’s 63-year-old driver and a female passenger— from the Lerez river in the north-western Galicia region, where a body of a woman was found.

According to local media, the passengers had just visited loved ones at a prison in central Galicia.

Though the exact reason for the crash is still being investigated, officials believe that bad weather may have been one of the reasons.

Wild Pacific salmon must always die after travelling up winding creeks and streams. The remains are then redistributed or consumed by scavenger bears, birds, wolves, or any other animals that benefit the jungle.

Recent years have seen a drop in the population and a larger decline in wild salmon.

Since there hasn't been any rain along British Columbia's western shores in the last few weeks, numerous areas there are at level four of the drought, which the province believes will likely have an impact on society and the environment.

An Army statement said that dedicated efforts were being made to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured, including requisition of air effort from the Air Force to shift the more serious casualties to Western Command.

A rescue operation was carried out swiftly and all the soldiers were evacuated to a field hospital in Partapur, the officials said.

"Seven individuals have been declared fatal so far. There are grievous injuries to others as well. Dedicated efforts are underway to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured, including requisition of air effort from the Air Force to shift the more serious casualties to Western Command," PTI news agency quoted an Army official as saying.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the loss of lives and assured that all possible assistance&nbsp;is being given to the injured soldiers.&nbsp;

Parts of Oregon and western Washington were under a winter weather advisory as heavy rain was expected into Tuesday morning, according to the weather service in Seattle. Lighter rainfall was forecast through Wednesday, with possible flooding beginning late Monday or Tuesday.

Gusty winds and “distant energetic ocean waves” were expected along the coast, according to the weather service in Portland, Oregon. That station also advised commuters to slow down and allow for extra time Monday morning, when rain was expected to be heavy or moderate.

“Y’all thought winter was over didn’t you?” the weather service in Seattle said on Twitter on Sunday. “Well it’s not.”

It is “definitely not unheard-of” to have an atmospheric river in the West at this time of year, with the end of the wet season just weeks away, Guy said.

The vessel is a floating production storage vessel (FPSO), owned by Nigeria's Shebah Exploration &amp; Production Company Ltd (SEPCOL).

In a statement on Thursday, SEPCOL said that flames had engulfed the Trinity Spirit floating production, storage and offloading vessel following the blast.

“But we can confirm that there were 10 crewmen onboard the vessel prior to the incident and we are prioritising investigations with respect to their safety and security,” SEPCOL Chief Executive Ikemefuna Okafor said in the statement.

The statement however did not give additional duties on the casualties, or the quantity of oil spilt into the sea.

The Nigerian government has described the impact of the spill as being “like Hiroshima”, with the leaking oil causing the death of marine life and damage to mangroves and waterways.

The explosion of the Trinity Spirit is reportedly the fourth major oil spill this year, after disasters in Peru, Ecuador and Thailand.

Nigeria is the 15th biggest oil-producing country in the world, producing more than 1.9m barrels a day, according to 2016 figures.

Tore Solbakken of Norwegian angling club Gudbrandsdal Sportsfiskeforening deemed the destruction of the dam as "a big step."

He has campaigned for 5 years to have the dam removed. “I’m very happy. It’s all about restoring healthy rivers and fish populations," he said in a report by The Guardian.&nbsp;

The dam was built nearly 100 years ago and has not been used in the last 50 years. As per campaigners, removing the dam will help fish in the area.&nbsp;

Elaborating on the same, Solbakken said, "Fish barriers, hydropower dams, roadbuilding and the way we secure rivers against flooding are all big problems for big brown trout and other fish. It is important to take care of all the small rivers. If we do that, we can have a positive future for our area.”

As per estimates, there are at least 1.2 million instream barriers in Europe. These have become a prominent factor for the dip in the number of migratory freshwater fish across the continent.&nbsp;

As per reports by local media, the driver was not familiar with the route and the bridge over the river.

The bus was hired to take a church choir and several other revellers to the ceremony in Kitui County. While most people plunged into the river, many managed to make a last-minute escape.&nbsp;

Deeming it as a "terrible" incident, Kitui governor Charity Ngilu said, "The bodies that have already been retrieved right now are over 23. We have more bodies in the bus."&nbsp;

She visited the site along with the Red Cross community. "Personnel and law enforcement agencies doing everything possible to search and rescue as well as recovery," she said.

The finest grained material at the bottom of the delta probably contains our best bet for finding evidence of organics and biosignatures, and the boulders at the top will enable us to sample old pieces of crustal rocks. Both are main objectives for sampling and caching rocks before the Mars Sample Return - a future mission to bring these samples back to Earth."

Meanwhile, earlier in September, the rover succeeded in drilling rocks from Mars after a perplexing failure.&nbsp;The rover's chief engineer Adam Steltzner described it as “one beautifully perfect cored sample.”
