After the Supreme court dismissed the review petition on <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/supreme-court-dismisses-rafale-review-petitions-261965">Rafale deal</a>, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders slammed senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and demanded an apology to him.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad lashed at Gandhi for "lying" about the Rafale deal. He said that Rahul not only dragged Dassault and Reliance, the companies that were involved in the agreement, but also former presidents of France.

The apex court earlier today rejected the review petitions that challenged its verdict passed on December 14, 2018 in the 36 Rafale jets deal. The review petition questioned the procurement of Rafale jets from the French government.&nbsp;

The top court also closed a contempt petition filed by senior BJP lawmaker Meenakshi Lekhi against Rahul Gandhi for his comments of "chowkidar chor hai" attributing to PM Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi apologised for his comments to the Indian PM.

"Rahul Gandhi needs to be more careful in the future. It was unfortunate," a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph said while announcing their verdict.

"The Supreme Court has said that he (Rahul Gandhi) is a contemptner and a better sense should prevail. Keeping that in mind, a better methodology of doing politics should prevail and Congress should know how not to be intolerant of others who are doing better than them," Lekhi said after 
the apex court's judgment.

Singh also asserted that India has never been offensive or attacked any country in the world.

The decision was taken following the success of a pilot project initiated by the Defence Ministry for admission of girl children in Sainik School Chhingchhip in Mizoram two years ago, ANI report added quoting a media report.

Singh has directed authorities concerned to ensure availability of necessary infrastructure and sufficient women staff in Sainik schools for smooth implementation of the decision.

Rajnath Singh gives nod for girls to enter Sainik schools from 2021

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived in the national capital from France visit on Thursday night, said that seven Rafale fighter jets will arrive in India by April or May next year. The Defence Minister was in France for the official handover of the first Rafale aircraft.

"Seven Rafale jets will arrive in India by April or May. The aircraft is capable of reaching up to the speed of 1800 kilometre per hour. I flew in a Rafale jet at the speed of 1300 kilometre per hour. The credit for the successful acquisition of the jets goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Singh said while addressing reporters.

He said that the France visit was a success and that he also held a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron for over 35 minutes.

Responding to the Opposition's criticism over performing of 'Shastra puja', Singh said,&nbsp;"People can say whatever they want. I did what I thought was right and I will continue to do so. This is our faith, that there is a superpower and I have believed it since childhood."

"People from all religions have the right to pray according to their beliefs. I would not have objected if someone else had done the same. I feel there must have been a difference of opinion over the issue in Congress as well, it would not have been everybody's opinion," he said.

Singh also said that India does not intend to intimidate anyone by increasing its defence capabilities.

"After induction of Rafale fighter aircraft, the combat capability of the Indian Air Force will increase. We don't want to intimidate anyone by doing so. We will neither fear anyone nor will we intimidate," the Defence Minister said.

He said that some IAF officers were undergoing training in France to operate the aircraft. Speaking about the controversy over the Rafale deal, Singh said,&nbsp;"Baseless accusations were levelled against the Prime Minister over the Rafale deal and strong language was used against him. I think the people of the country have given a befitting response to that."&nbsp;

How Rafale's strike capability can tilt strategic balance for IAF

The Indian government is open to taking further measures to rationalise taxation so as to encourage 'Make in India' in the defence manufacturing sector, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday.

Addressing the top CEOs of the French Defence Industry here, Singh said, "We have recently reduced corporate tax significantly. For the Make in India in defence, if there is a need for further rationalisation, then it may be considered suitable."

Highlighting the purpose for his meeting with the top CEOs, Singh said, "The primary aim is to explore the ways to strengthen our defence industrial partnership. I hope this event will provide traction to pitch for our Make in India initiative and it will be equally beneficial to you to engage with us."

The Defence Minister also said that India would be open to exploring the opportunity of the co-production of the high-end defence equipment and seek collaborations to modernise country's shipyards and defence platforms by the infusion of technology.

"India would be open to exploring the opportunity of the co-production of high-end defence equipment, and we want collaboration to modernise our shipyard and defence platform by infusion of technology," Singh said.

Singh pitched that the French firm can make India as its base for the production of defence equipment, and "not solely for India but to other countries as well and can consider an aero-engine complex on the government to government basis."

I hope this event will provide traction to pitch for our Make in India initiative and it will be equally beneficial to you to engage with us." From the IAF, newly appointed Vice Chief Air Marshal HS Arora is scheduled to accompany the Defence Minister for receiving the aircraft.

Bonjour Paris! Defence Minister Rajnath Singh meets French President Emmanuel Macron 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday gave in-principle approval to the enhancement of monetary assistance to next of kin (NoK) of all categories of battle casualties from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.

The amount will be granted under the Army Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (ABCWF).

Earlier, there was a provision of financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the battle casualties which are fatal, 60 per cent and above disability, battle casualties invalidated due to disability and Rs 1 lakh to disability less than 60 per cent.

This amount is dispersed in addition to liberalised family pension, financial assistance from Army Group Insurance, Army Welfare Fund and ex gratia amount.

"The ABCWF has been set up under Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (ESW), Ministry of Defence after a large number of people offered to provide monetary assistance to the families of battle casualties following an incident in February 2016 at Siachen, wherein 10 soldiers were buried in an avalanche. The ABCWF was instituted in July 2017 and was implemented retrospectively with effect from April 2016," a release issued by the ministry of defence stated.

The fund was created under the Charitable Endowments Act, 1890.

A bank account was also opened for the public to deposit money. This fund is in addition to the various existing schemes for the welfare of NoK and children of battle casualties in the form of additional ex gratia.

In addition to the above assistance, the already existing monetary grant includes ex-gratia (central) for various ranks ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 45 lakh and Army Group Insurance ranging from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 75 lakh.

Earlier, when he was Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh had launched 'Bharat ke Veer fund'&nbsp;to assist families of paramilitary personnel killed or injured in action. The fund became hugely popular within a short span of time and received widespread support from all quarters.

Rajnath approves four-fold increment in monetary assistance to next of kin of battle casualties

If there is any Prime Minister who will fulfil his vision of Swachhta, that is Prime Minister Modi. If there is anyone that will fulfil his dream of Swachh Bharat, it will be our BJP government," Singh said.

"Our Prime Minister talks about progressing the nation ahead while taking everyone along. On that, he even gave the slogan 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas'. Thus, our government is on the path laid out by Gandhi," he added.

Singh further stated that one can learn about the towering personality of Gandhi after looking at leaders like Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela, who were themselves inspired by him.

"We have heard about Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela. They are huge personalities but both said that they derived their inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi without ever meeting him. Such was the stature of the Father of our Nation," he said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday interacted with Indian Naval Air Squadron 303, also known as "Black Panthers", onboard aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.

Rajnath Singh interacts with 'Black Panthers' onboard INS Vikramaditya

Pakistan should be wary of the recent additions to our naval capacity as with them we could deliver them a bigger blow, said Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at the commissioning ceremony of the second Kalvari-class submarine INS 'Khanderi'&nbsp;on Saturday.

"Pakistan should understand that today with the strong resolve of our government and advancement in naval capacity with additions like INS Khanderi, we are capable of giving a much bigger blow to it," Singh said at an event here.

Lauding the name given to the Kalvari-class submarine, Rajnath said, "The name Khanderi is inspired by the dreaded 'Sword Tooth Fish,'&nbsp;a deadly fish known to hunt whilst swimming close to the bottom of the ocean.

Khanderi is also the name of an island fort constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

He was one of the few medieval rulers in the country who understood the significance of Naval supremacy.

"Singh also praised India's collaboration with France in building the INS Khanderi, which is the second of the Navy's six Kalvari-class submarines being built in India.

It is a diesel-electric attack submarine which is designed by French naval defense and energy company DCNS which is being manufactured at Mazagon Dock in Mumbai.

"Our special partnership with French naval will touch new heights. The construction of the submarine is benefiting industries indirectly, through the Make in India program. Our government is alert to the needs of our defense forces and we are committed to fulfilling it," he said.

The Defense Minister in his speech also said that he would stay on board the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya for today.He also hailed the work done by the Indian Navy in ridding the sea routes of piracy and added about the upcoming additions to its capabilities.

Khanderi is also the name of an island fort constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He was one of the few medieval rulers in the country who understood the significance of Naval supremacy. "Singh also praised India's collaboration with France in building the INS Khanderi, which is the second of the Navy's six Kalvari-class submarines being built in India. It is a diesel-electric attack submarine which is designed by French naval defense and energy company DCNS which is being manufactured at Mazagon Dock in Mumbai. "Our special partnership with French naval will touch new heights. The construction of the submarine is benefiting industries indirectly, through the Make in India program. Our government is alert to the needs of our defense forces and we are committed to fulfilling it," he said. ‘Varaha' is the fourth ship in the series of seven 98-meter offshore patrol vessels(OPV) that are being built. The name Varaha has its roots in Indian mythology, where Lord Vishnu in his third incarnation took the form of a boar to rescue goddess earth from the ocean, by lifting her on his tusks. The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Larsen and Toubro(L&amp;T).&nbsp;

Our Coast Guard stands larger than many navies in the world and we further plan to boost our assets to 200 vessels and 100 aircraft by 2025. We also have bilateral and multilateral agreements with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives etc. Daily we deploy 30-40 ships and 10-12 aircraft for surveillance and in the last decade we have saved over 10,000 lives, in over 3100 missions against the fury of nature.”

She is armed with a 30mm gun and is to be fitted with the 12.7mm gun with Fire Control System(FCS). The 2100-ton displacing ship is propelled by two 9100Kw engines and can reach top speeds of 26knots and has an endurance of 5000 nautical miles, with the ability to stay at sea for 20 days without replenishment. It has been designed to carry one twin-engine light helicopter in the hangar and twin-engine heavy helicopter on deck, both of which have night-flying capabilities. Having helicopters on board extends the ship’s range by about 100 miles, while its radars have a range of 96miles.&nbsp;

Sources told WION that Varaha is among the fleet of ships that are based on a wholly digitally designed, indigenous model on which various ergonomic studies were conducted to ensure that they are extremely stable even in inclement weather, with minimum roll and pitch. In the earlier era, detailed ship drawings had to be made on tables that were as long as three dining tables and then the engineers would have to work on the models, whereas now it has all been computerized.&nbsp;

The ship also carries four high-speed boats including two rigid hull inflatable boats for swift boarding operation, search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol. It is also capable of carrying Pollution Response equipment to contain oil spills at sea.

Coast Guard ship ‘Varaha’ commissioned; Indian Coast Guard to get stronger by 67 vessels and 38 aircraft by 2025

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that talks with Pakistan could not be resumed until Islamabad stops "exporting terrorism" to India, and added that any future discussion would be held on Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), and not on Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter, Singh also ruled out any possibility of talks with Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir.

"There can be no talks when terrorism is being exported across the border. Talks with Pakistan can resume only after it stops exporting terrorism. Our neighbour should keep in mind that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Future discussion can only be about PoK," Singh tweeted.

Earlier today, he warned Pakistan not to "repeat its mistake" to go for war with India as it did in 1965 and 1971.

Addressing an event in Patna, Singh said that Pakistan would lose PoK if it dared to fight a war with India.

"Pakistan PM comes to PoK and suggests Pakistanis not to go to the border. It's good because if they come, they'll not be able to go back to Pakistan. They should not commit the mistake of repeating 1965 and 1971," Singh said.

He further said, "If they (Pakistan) repeat it, then they should think what will happen to PoK."

The government has on several occasions made it clear that talks between India and Pakistan cannot be resumed unless the latter stops using terrorism against India, saying that "talks and terror cannot go together."

His comments come days before the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, where a high octane clash is expected between India and Pakistan over the abrogation of Article 370 and human rights violations in Pakistan.&nbsp;

The Defence Minister further said that the terrorism that spread in Jammu and Kashmir was because of Article 370.

Around 41,500 people have lost their lives after independence because of the scourge of terrorism.

Around 5,500 security personnel have died there in the line of duty.

"The communal political parties accuse us of being communal. They should look within. We always practice what we preach. Our party is a unique party in the entire world which stood on its ideology and accomplished what we envisioned," Singh said.

He further went on to say that Jammu and Kashmir will be entirely transformed within five years and will come to be known as the paradise on earth again.

Singh warned Pakistan that it should not repeat the mistakes of 1965 and 1971 otherwise it would have to face dire consequences and it will fall on its own.

"Pakistan should not repeat the mistakes of 1965 and 1971 otherwise they should think about what will be the fate of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. If Pakistan continues to ill-treat the people of Balochistan and Sindh, it will fall on its own," Singh said.

The Defence Minister also outlined India's firm belief in humanity and justice and said, "I want to say to Pakistan that India was divided on the basis of religion during the partition and it was made possible by those who made Pakistan and have the ideology to do politics of religion. India does not believe in the politics of caste and religion. It believes in humanity and justice."

Asserting that Pakistan did not like the development and progress of India, he said, "Article 370 was abrogated but Pakistan did not digest it well. It went to the United Nations and started lying to deceive the international organisation. Pakistan is talking about human Rights Commission when it could not protect minorities in its own land."

Singh continued, "Human Rights violations are taking place in Pakistan. It is taking place against Baloch people, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists. Pakistan is trying to defame India by talking about human rights at the international organisation. But nobody agrees with Pakistan."

Addressing an event of Bharatiya Veer Jawan Trust in Surat, Singh hit out at Pakistan saying that the country which is not able to provide security to the minorities on its soil, talks about the human rights.

"Pakistan, which isn't able to provide security to the minorities in its country, is talking about human rights. If human rights violations are taking place anywhere, it's in Pakistan. The minority in India was safe, is safe, and will remain safe," he said.

Singh also said while the population of minorities in India has increased after Independence, human rights violations keep taking place in Pakistan against Sikhs, Buddhists and others.

If politics based on religion carry on in Pakistan then no one can prevent it from getting divided into several parts... If Pakistan does not stop supporting terrorism then it cannot be denied that it will be divided into several parts." "I have clearly stated that if talks take place between India and Pakistan, then it will be on Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK)," he said. There was a time in the 80s when it was considered an orthodox party, but it was Jaitley who changed the narrative of the party amongst the intellectuals."&nbsp;

Terming his demise a loss for the entire nation, Rajnath added that his absence was being felt across party lines.

"This is not just BJP's loss, but the nation's loss as a whole, people across party lines are feeling it. He may not be here today, but I will definitely say that he will continue to shine like a star at the very top," Rajnath said.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan also praised Jaitley's contribution towards the nation and NDA alliance by stating, "He was the one person we could always go to, whenever we were worried about the alliance. No alliance party member would ever be hesitant in front of him and he would always have the solution, such was his expertise."&nbsp;

Paswan also recounted an anecdote which had moved him personally as it involved his son and newly elected MP Chirag Paswan.

"I remember after Chirag's first speech in the Parliament, Jaitleyji sent him a note full of praises and wishing him luck. That set Chirag's mind on politics, once and for all, only Arunji could have had such an influence on people," Paswan said.

Several diplomats and dignitaries were in attendance at the condolence meet including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and leaders from the Opposition parties including Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, CPI (M) leader D Raja among others.

Jaitley passed away in New Delhi on August 24 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was 66. He was cremated with full state honours at the Nigambodh Ghat in the national capital on August 25.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday urged Indian and South Korean companies to actively collaborate with each other in the defence sector.

Singh had a series of engagements with Indian and South Korean defence companies during his three-day visit to the Asian country.

In the CEOs Forum, over 25 Indian and Korean companies engaged in the defence sector made presentations on their products and capabilities and also shared their views on policy measures that are required to boost the partnership in the defence realm, an official statement said.

"In his remarks, the Defence Minister highlighted the measures taken by the Indian government liberalise the defence sector and adopt policy measures to boost the 'Make in India'&nbsp;initiative in the defence sector. He encouraged Indian and South Korean companies to actively collaborate with each other and assured them of complete support from the government," it said.

Representatives from Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu governments made presentations on defence corridors.

The Defence Minister invited South Korean companies to participate in the DefExpo event in Uttar Pradesh in February 2020, the statement said.

"Wang Jung-hong, Minister, Defence Acquisition and Program Administration, South Korea assured that he would encourage Korean companies to actively explore Indian opportunities," it stated.

Wang later joined Rajnath and General Park Han-ki, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, at a banquet hosted in honour of the visiting dignitary.

During the visit, two MoUs were signed between Hanwha Defence International and Larsen and Toubro (L&amp;T), and between Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) and Korea Defence Industries Association (KDIA).&nbsp;
