In a tragic incident that has shocked the city of Gandhinagar, a 50-year-old woman, daughter of a retired an IAS officer, died of rabies after being bitten by a pet dog that was reportedly vaccinated. 

The incident has raised concerns about rabies awareness, timely medical care, and responsible pet ownership.

The bite occurred around four months ago when the woman was bitten by a Beagle owned by a staff member at the school where she worked. 

Although the dog had been vaccinated, the woman did not receive immediate post-exposure rabies treatment, a crucial step in preventing the deadly infection.

&nbsp;Experts stress that vaccination of a dog does not completely eliminate the risk, and timely medical attention for the bite is essential.

The dog later showed symptoms consistent with rabies and died on October 17. 

In late December, the woman began developing symptoms of the disease, including fever, fatigue, and neurological issues, prompting her admission to a private hospital near Bhat Circle on December 30. 

Despite intensive treatment for about 15 days, she succumbed to the disease on January 17.

The bite seemed minor and he didn't think it was serious, so he didn't take the vaccine,” Praveen said in a chat with TOI. &nbsp;Late last month, on June 26, Brijesh began experiencing numbness while practicing. The officials rushed him to a district hospital, but as his condition deteriorated, he was moved to a private hospital in Noida. Sharing details of the same, his brother said,&nbsp; &nbsp;“All of a sudden, he was afraid of water and was showing symptoms of rabies, but we were denied treatment at the government hospitals in Khurja, Aligarh and even Delhi. It was only in Noida that doctors confirmed he was likely infected with rabies. Brijesh died on Saturday while we were taking him to a faith healer in Mathura,” he concluded.

A teenage boy from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad died due to rabies on Monday. The boy named&nbsp;Shahvaz was bitten by a neighbour’s dog over a month ago but he allegedly did not tell his parents about the incident out of fear of being scolded.&nbsp;

The 14-year-old boy was a resident of Charan Singh colony under the Vijay Nagar police station area and was a student of Class 8.&nbsp;

“Today, information was received at Vijayanagar police station that a 14-year-old child died due to a dog bite. Taking cognizance of the incident, we investigated the matter. It came to light that the child was bitten by a dog about two months ago and he hid it from his family members,” said Nimish Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kotwali Nagar.

Following this, Shahvaz’s family took him to several hospitals in Ghaziabad and the nearby cities of Meerut and Delhi. In Delhi, he was refused admission to a hospital for treatment.

At last, as per media reports, the boy was admitted to an Ayurvedic clinic in Bulandshahr for treatment, the family told the police. The boy died when he was being brought back to Ghaziabad in an ambulance. A complaint has been lodged in the matter and action will be taken against the dog owner, said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kotwali zone, Nimish Patil.

The cat died after being transferred to another clinic, where specialists had suspected a neurological problem. The virus was identified after part of the cat's brain was sent to a animal health institute in Padua.

Thirteen people who had handled the cat, including those bitten, have been administered an antibody treatment.

The new ordinance, in place until August 27, calls for any cats or dogs which have recently bitten people and who display suspicious symptoms such as biting, paralysis, or changes in temperament, must be put under quarantine for 10 days.

Cat contracts rare rabies-like virus in Italy

India has handed over 10,000 anti-rabies vaccines to Myanmar in a goodwill gesture in the neighbouring country's fight against the deadly disease.&nbsp;
