Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Japan and China from August 29 to September 1 for key diplomatic engagements. In Tokyo, he will hold talks with Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba on Quad cooperation, economic security, and tech partnerships. In China, he will attend the SCO Summit, pushing for a strong stance against cross-border terrorism.


India-japan bilateral ties under review: security cooperation upgrade 

The message from Washington is to reconfirm that the Quad would stay, but it may work to achieve a less comprehensive agenda than before. Besides, its inner solidarity may be moulded by what happens between now and the next summit to be hosted by India later in the year.

The trimming of the Quad

Jaishankar said that the Quad ministers agreed strongly that the goal was to strengthen strategic stability in the Indo-Pacific, and that there was in parallel a Quad business roundtable on critical minerals, and companies from all four Quad nations were present at that roundtable.

In a statement, the Quad said, "condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir" and "express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery to all those injured."

The external affairs minister once again affirmed that India has every right to defend its people against terrorism, saying that the nation will exercise that right. The union minister further said that victims and perpetrators of terrorism “must never be equated”.
