More than 100 passengers were stranded at Kolkata airport early Thursday after a water tanker hit a Qatar Airways aircraft, which was preparing to take off for Doha.

Around 2.30am, when passengers were boarding the plane, a water tanker hit the belly of the Doha-bound flight, near the landing gear, an official of Airports Authority of India (AAI) said.

The plane was immediately grounded for inspection and the passengers were safely deboarded, he said.

No one was hurt in the accident, the official noted.

"All 103 passengers of the flight have been provided accommodation at a nearby hotel. They will be taking the 3am flight to Doha tomorrow (Friday)," he said.

Initial inspection suggests that the water tanker had technical issues, the brake wasn't functioning properly, the AAI official added.

Meanwhile, a source in the DGCA said an inquiry has been initiated into the incident.

"We will take corrective measures based on the inquiry report," he said.

The Gulf crisis that pits a United Arab Emirates-Saudi-led alliance against Qatar is escalating in discreet but no less worrisome ways that effect major third-party commercial interests and could increase international pressure for a resolution of the dispute.

In a major shift away from Saudi and UAE restraint in attempting to force the international community and multi-nationals from taking sides in the 11-month dispute, prominent financial institutions are being sucked into the dispute that erupted last June when the alliance declared a diplomatic and economic boycott of Qatar.

Executives of JPMorgan and HSBC advised Qatar last month, according to The Wall Street Journal, that they would not be involved in the Gulf state's $12 billion bond issuance because it could jeopardise their relationship with Saudi Arabia.

The kingdom in April rushed a $11 billion bond sale of its own, its fourth international offering, to ensure that it went to market before Qatar did.

Qatar has responded to efforts to persuade financial institutions to reduce, if not halt, dealings with the Gulf state by refusing do business with some Dubai-based bankers and consultants. The Qatari response has forced several Western institutions to do business with the Gulf state through their London offices, according to the Journal.

Some bankers and financial executives have, moreover, reportedly been detained at UAE airports because they had Qatari visas in their passports before ultimately being granted entry into the country.

Saudi Arabia, in an unusual move, took the market by surprise when it launched its bond without embarking on a traditional roadshow to market the offering and sought to complete the transaction in one day. The issuance was oversubscribed almost five times.

The Saudi attempt to undermine Qatar failed given that the Gulf state's sale was similarly oversubscribed.

"This reflects the strength of the Qatari economy and the confidence of international investors," a Qatari official gloated.

HSBC was one of the Saudi bond's global coordinators while JPMorgan was one its lead managers. The two banks helped arrange Qatar's last sale in 2016 of a $9 billion bond. Neither was involved in the most recent Qatari sale which was arranged among others by Deutsche Bank, Barclays and Credit Suisse, banks in which Qatar has significant stakes.

In January, Doha Bank, Qatar's fifth-biggest lender, was forced to reduce the size of a two-year, $575 million bank loan that it had raised in December 2015 to $400 million, when it sought a one-year extension of the facility because Chinese, Hong Kong and Japanese banks opted not to participate.

The financial reverberations of the Gulf crisis contrast with failed attempts by the UAE-Saudi alliance in the immediate aftermath of the declaration of the boycott to strongarm African nations into supporting their punitive measures against Qatar.

Omar Ghobash, the UAE's ambassador to Russia, suggested at the time that the anti-Qatar alliance could "impose conditions on our own trading partners and say you want to work with us then you have got to make a commercial choice."

The quiet tit-for-tat between Qatar and international banks suggests that Saudi Arabia and the UAE, frustrated that Doha has proven to be resilient enough to resist surrendering to the alliance's demands, have decided to step up the pressure.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia accuse Qatar of supporting militants and political violence, maintaining close ties with Iran, and interfering in the domestic affairs of its neighbours - accusations Qatar denies. Accepting the alliance’s demands would effectively amount to Qatar compromising its sovereignty and ability to chart its own, independent course.

The Wall Street Journal's disclosure of the tit-for-tat with financial institutions comes days after newly appointed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on his first overseas trip in his new job told Saudi leaders in Riyadh that "enough is enough" and that the Gulf crisis must be brought to an end.

Stopping the rot in its tracks and averting the potential impact of the crisis on multi-nationals is certainly not the only reason for Pompeo's stepped-up pressure on Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The United States wants to see a united front among its Middle Eastern allies as President Donald Trump gears up for a possible withdrawal on May 12 from the 2015 international agreement that curbs Iran's nuclear program.

Nevertheless, forcing financial institutions to take sides in the Gulf crisis challenges Trump's 'America First' approach to policy and the interests of major US corporations - a move the president is unlikely to view kindly.

If financial institutions are continuously forced to take sides, Saudi Arabia and the UAE could decide to target other economic sectors as well as Asian nations that depend on the export of labour to the Gulf.

Countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan, two of the most populous Muslim states, as well as India, home to the world's fourth largest Muslim population, fear that Saudi Arabia could threaten to expel millions of migrant workers and expatriates in a bid to force them to join the boycott of Qatar.

Saudi Arabia has a history of using as leverage migrant workers, whose remittances constitute the backbone of foreign currency liquidity of many supplier countries and whose Gulf jobs reduce pressure on domestic labour markets.

Thousands of foreign workers in the kingdom have in recent years already lost their jobs as a result of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s efforts to replace them with Saudi nationals and financial difficulties encountered by major corporations like the Saudi Bin Laden Group and Saudi Oger.

Speaking to the BBC last June, former Bangladesh ambassador to Saudi Arabia Abdul Momen Chowdhury warned that "nothing is impossible" in how the kingdom might seek to build support for its campaign against Qatar. "If anyone obstructs what they want or does not agree with their opinions, they are never hesitant to act," Chowdhury said.

Potential Saudi and UAE efforts to increase pressure on Qatar would reflect the fact that the two countries have boxed themselves into a corner by refusing to negotiate with the Gulf state unless it first accepts their demands.

The Gulf stalemate is reinforced by the fact that the international community has by and large refused to back the Saudi-UAE position and repeatedly called for a negotiated solution.

So far, the tit-for-tat with financial institutions has not forced any of the banks and financial majors to close offices on one side or the other of the Gulf divide.

Nonetheless, in a sign of the times, JP Morgan remains the region's top merger and acquisition advisor, but no longer ranks among the top five banks in Qatar in terms of revenue. For the first time in nearly a decade, it doesn't even rank among the Gulf state's top 10.

Said a private equity firm executive in the Gulf: "If this continues, international banks will increasingly be forced to choose sides. That would take the Gulf crisis to a new and dangerous level."

Potential Saudi and UAE efforts to increase pressure on Qatar would reflect the fact that the two countries have boxed themselves into a corner by refusing to negotiate with the Gulf state unless it first accepts their demands. The United States is deeply concerned by Iran's "destabilising and malign activities", new Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.

Pompeo was speaking on a flying visit to the region, where he had earlier met with Saudi King Salman in Riyadh and stressed the need for unity among Gulf allies as Washington aims to muster support for new sanctions against Iran.

The whirlwind trip to NATO in Brussels and to Middle East allies came only hours after Pompeo was confirmed as Trump's top diplomat. He has not even visited his own office yet, he told Netanyahu.

Speaking alongside the Israeli leader, Pompeo said in Tel Aviv: "We remain deeply concerned about Iran's dangerous escalation of threats towards Israel and the region."

He added: "Strong cooperation with close allies like (Israel) is critical to our efforts to counter Iran's destabilising and malign activities through the Middle East, and indeed, throughout the world."

Pompeo also said that the relocation of the American embassy to Jerusalem, a move set to take place on May 14, was "recognising (the) reality" of "Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the seat of its government."

Netanyahu echoed Pompeo's focus on Iran, stressing the closeness of US&nbsp;and Israeli cooperation on the issue.

"I think the greatest threat to the world and to our two countries, and to all countries, is the marriage of militant Islam with nuclear weapons, and specifically the attempt of Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. We have had a very productive talk today on this subject," he said.

In Saudi Arabia earlier, Pompeo said that the US&nbsp;would abandon the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, reached under President Donald Trump's predecessor, unless talks with European partners yield improvements to ensure the Islamic Republic never possesses nuclear weapons.

"Iran destabilises this entire region. It supports proxy militias and terrorist groups. It is an arms dealer to the Houthi rebels in Yemen. It supports the murderous Assad regime (in Syria) as well," he said in joint remarks with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir.

Pompeo also addressed the rift between Qatar and its neighbours, telling reporters after leaving Riyadh: "We are hopeful that they will, in their own way, figure out how to remove the dispute between them."

FIFA lifted its three-decade ban on Iraq hosting international football on Friday with the cities of Arbil, Basra and Karbala given the go-ahead to stage official matches.

A London-based consultancy firm, Impactt, said long working hours remained a problem for many of the 18,500 workers at projects overseen by Qatar&#39;s World Cup organisers, the Supreme Committee for Delivery &amp; Legacy.

Impactt -- contracted by the Supreme Committee to carry out an annual labour review -- said 13 out of 19 World Cup contractors were overworking their employees.&nbsp;

&quot;At eight of 19 contractors, these non-compliances were critical, as working hours exceeded 72 per week and overtime exceeded two hours per day,&quot; Impactt said in its report.

&quot;The most extreme case found was 14 hours within a day... (and) 402 hours within a month.&quot;

It added: &quot;Additional non-compliances include eight contractors where workers worked an excessive number of consecutive days without a rest day.&nbsp;

&quot;The most extreme cases were found at one contractor where three workers worked between 124 and 148 consecutive days without a rest day.&quot;

Under Qatari law, workers should complete a 48-hour week, equivalent to eight hours per day.

They can also work an extra two hours a day overtime and should have at least one rest day per week.

Qatari investor sells $1.5 billion stake in Bharti Airtel

Qatar&#39;s defence minister has signed a letter of intent to purchase 24 Typhoon jets from British defence group BAE Systems, in a move that could anger other Gulf countries boycotting Doha.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain cut diplomatic and trade links with Qatar on June 5, suspending air and shipping routes with the world&#39;s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas, which is home to the region&#39;s biggest U.S. military base.

US, Qatar sign accord on combating terrorism financing

In a move that signals that the ongoing diplomatic standoff involving Qatar and other Arab states will only worsen, the four Arab states led by Saudi Arabia pledged new political, economic and legal steps against Qatar declaring the earlier set of 13 demands as void.

The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE met in Cairo and discussed the new set of measures against Doha. They said that Qatar&#39;s refusal to comply with the initial set of 13 demands is proof that the gas-rich nation has links with terror groups.

However, the anti-Qatar coalition led by Saudi Arabia did not elaborate as to when the new measures will come into force.&nbsp;

The four Aarb states condemned Doha&#39;s response as &quot;negative&quot; and lacking in content, Reuters reported.

The United States has expressed concern that the ongoing dispute between Qatar and the Arab states could drag for months or possibly even intensify.&nbsp;

Qatar will not negotiate with its neighbours to resolve the Gulf dispute unless they first lift the trade and travel boycott they imposed two weeks ago, its foreign minister said, but added Doha still believed a solution was possible. The United Arab Emirates, which along with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain imposed the measures to isolate Qatar, said the sanctions could last for years unless Doha accepted demands that the Arab powers plan to reveal in coming days. Qatar has denied accusations by its neighbours that it funds terrorism, foments regional instability or has cosied up to their enemy Iran. The dispute has opened a rift among some of the main US allies in the Middle East, with President Donald Trump backing tough measures against Qatar even as his State Department and Defense Department have sought to remain neutral. On Monday Qatar held war games with Turkish troops, showing off one of its few remaining strong alliances after two weeks of unprecedented isolation. Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said Doha was ready to "engage and address" the concerns of other Gulf Arab states in what he described as a proper dialogue with pre-determined principles, but reiterated that sanctions must be lifted first. "Until now we didn't see any progress about lifting the blockade, which is the condition for anything to move forward," Sheikh Mohammed said. The countries that imposed the sanctions have denied that they amount to a blockade. Sheikh Mohammed said he planned to travel to Washington next week to discuss the economic effect of the "blockade" and its effects on the global fight against terrorism. "We have a very strong partnership with the US. We are partners together in the global coalition of countering terrorism. We have been talking to them since the crisis started," he said. UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said earlier on Monday said that those seeking to isolate Qatar had no intention of backing down unless their demands were met. "Qatar will realise that this is a new state of affairs and isolation can last years," Gargash told reporters in Paris. "If they want to be isolated because of their perverted view of what their political role is, then let them be isolated. They are still in a phase of denial and anger," he said, adding that a list of grievances for Qatar to address would be completed in the coming days. Qatar has relished support from Turkey during the dispute. Its state-funded pan-Arab Al Jazeera news channel showed footage of a column of armoured personnel carriers flying the Turkish flag inside the Tariq bin Ziyad military base in Doha. It reported that additional Turkish troops had arrived in Qatar on Sunday for the exercises, although military sources in the region told Reuters the operation actually involved Turkish troops who were already present rather than new arrivals. The dispute is a major test for the United States, close allies with both sides and which houses the headquarters of its air power in the Middle East at an air base in Qatar. Washington has sent mixed signals despite Trump's firm personal backing for the sanctions. Trump called Qatar a "funder of terrorism at a very high level," but five days later the Pentagon approved selling Qatar $12 billion of warplanes. The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Monday that military operations against Islamic State from Qatar were continuing while acknowledging some friction. "But what I said last week remains true, in that we have continued to be able to operate, even through that friction," Marine General Joseph Dunford told reporters in Washington.

The Saudi Arabian state run press agency said &quot;Qatar is harboring a multitude of terrorist and sectarian groups that aim to create instability in the region&quot;. Doha was of course quick to deny all such allegations. Significantly, the move came exactly two weeks after US President Donald Trump&rsquo;s visit to Saudi Arabia.

The former has thought of itself for long as the undisputed leader of the Islamic World, while off late Qatar by taking an independent foreign policy stance, while also differing on a number of foreign policy issues has sought to distinguish itself. Significantly, the Taliban had set up an office in Afghanistan, which was later shut down. Qatar has also sought to play a role in reconciliation taks between Taliban and Afghanistan.

On June 14, 2017, Mutlaq al-Qahtani, a senior counterterrorism adviser to Qatar&rsquo;s foreign minister said &ldquo;Qatar hosted the Taliban reconciliation talks with the Afghan government on the request from the United States but now U.S. President Donald Trump along with a number of Arab regimes has accused Doha of supporting extremist groups,&rdquo; &nbsp;Apart from this, Doha has also maintained a manageable relationship with Iran.

What has been the role of major powers in this issue?

All major powers are taking sides in accordance with their interests. The US, seems to be fueling tension in the region instead of diffusing it. On the very first day, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson gave a statement on Monday while on a state visit in Australia, urging the Gulf states to stay united. However, Tillerson&rsquo;s assurances came under doubt after Presidents Trump sided with Saudis, and lambasted Qatar for fomenting terror stating, &ldquo;The time had come to call on Qatar to end it&rsquo;s funding&hellip;&hellip;and it&rsquo;s extremist ideology&rdquo;. Later, US President Donald Trump realised that Qatar hosts the biggest US military Base in the region, and spoke over telephone with Qatar&#39;s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, expressing readiness to participate in the efforts to resolve the crisis in the GCC. More recently, the US not only finalised arm deal of worth 12 billion US dollars but also sent US Navy vessels to Doha to take part in a joint military exercise with the Qatari Emiri Navy.

Turkey&#39;s parliament has approved a legislation allowing its troops to be deployed to a Turkish military base in Qatar.

Though Russia has taken a neutral position from the start of the conflict, it sympathises with Qatar rather than with Saudi Arabia and its allies, because the investment authority of Qatar has made significant investments in different sectors, during difficult economic time.

Indian stake in Qatar&nbsp;

More than 650,000 Indians are living in Qatar. Almost half of the Indians (3,00000) are from Kerala. Kerala CM &nbsp;Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to the central government and sought its intervention for ensuring the safety of these Indians.India&rsquo;s Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj categorically stated that, &ldquo;There is no challenge arising out of this for us. This is an internal matter of GCC (Gulf Coordination Council). Our only concern is about Indians there. We are trying to find out if any Indians are stuck there.&quot;

It is estimated, that expats from Arab nations, send back remittance of well over 60 billion US dollars to India annually. A large number of these resident are in Qatar, on contract to work for the FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by the country in 2022. If one were to look beyond remittances and the diaspora factor, India has strong economic connections with Qatar in the economic sphere. They include:

Energy

Qatar has the world&#39;s third-largest gas reserves after Russia and Iran,&nbsp;and is the largest supplier of LNG to India, accounting for 66 per cent of the total imports in 2015-16. It is worth noting that last year India renegotiated the gas price formula and saved around 20000 crore rupees.

Investment

Qatar has a sovereign wealth fund of around 300 billion US dollars, which is managed by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). It has significant investments in India across the board such as Qatar Foundation Endowment picked up 5 per cent&nbsp;stake in Bharti Airtel &nbsp;with an investment of US$ 1.26 billion in July 2013. In July 2013, Qatar Investment Authority decided to invest US$300 million in India&rsquo;s real estate sector. QIA invested US$ 150 million in India&rsquo;s e-commerce major Flipkart. At the same time, Indian companies have invested US$ 100 million in different joint ventures across the different sectors. Qatar Airways and QIA are planning to invest in Airlines sector of India. India has been engaging with QIA and other state-owned and private entities in Qatar to draw investment for PM Modi&rsquo;s flagship program &lsquo;Make in India&rsquo;.

Trade

According to the Indian embassy in Doha, &ldquo;The bilateral trade had touched nearly US$17 billion in 2013-14, with India&#39;s exports amounting to nearly US$1.0 billion.&rdquo; India mainly exports iron or steel, plastic &amp; articles thereof, construction material, electrical and electronic items, textiles, chemicals, precious stones, rubber, spices and cereals to Qatar.

Apart from it, Qatar hosts many Indian companies. There are a total of 26, 100 per cent&nbsp;Indian owned companies working in Qatar in various fields such as infrastructure, contracting, information technology, gold trade, and food items trade. Nearly 6,500 Qatari-Indian companies in joint venture partnerships are working practically in all fields in the country. Many Indian companies such as L&amp;T, Dodsal, Punj Lloyd, Shapoorji Pallonji, Voltas, Tata motors, Simplex, TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Aptech and NIIT have set up offices in Qatar and have secured major contracts/business.&nbsp;

Indian strategy

New Delhi needs to take care of its national interests as other countries are doing. While in the short run, India could face significant economic challenges, with lay offs of sections of Indian workers being a significant possibility. Yet, New Delhi needs to think out of the box, and ensure that its relationship with Qatar is not viewed from the prism of Saudi Arabia and other countries. Deserted by neighbours, Qatar is still a big hope for India

Qatar said on Friday it is grateful for the food supplied by Turkey amid the ongoing row with Gulf Countries.

Qatar&rsquo;s envoy to Turkey Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi told the Hurriyet Daily News that the two countries have established an economic commission for provision of the necessary food and other supplies.

&quot;Turkey has opened its market to us. We are grateful for this,&quot; Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi said in the interview on June 15.

Al Shafi expressed his country&rsquo;s appreciation for &quot;the Turkish government&rsquo;s enormous support in these difficult days.&quot;

&ldquo;Turkey has become very helpful to us to this end. Some big companies of Qatar have come here and purchased mainly dairy products, because we had been procuring these from Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia decided to impose a siege on us and it is shameful. Qatar is not a small country and it can get its needs from other markets. But they have broken the social bonds between our countries through this siege,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;

Saudi Arabia-led Arab and Gulf countries imposed tough sanctions on Qatar last week, alleging it was supporting terrorist organisations.&nbsp;

Saudi Arabia&rsquo;s decision to close the land border with Qatar has caused shortages of food and some dairy products.&nbsp;

Qatar 'grateful' as Turkey supplies food amid blockade

The current spat between Qatar and the three Gulf countries, Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt (the latter does not form a part of the Gulf States) has brought Qatar in the limelight regarding Islamic extremism, terrorism, and funding terrorist groups. Qatar has however denied these allegations. There are a few facts about Qatar the world does not know.

1. GDP and economic sectors 
Qatar has the world&#39;s highest GDP per capita i.e. $129,726. Since Qatar is largely dependent on oil and gas revenue, fluctuations in oil prices result in a dampened outlook.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, growth in manufacturing, construction&nbsp;and financial services have lifted the non-oil sectors to just over half of Qatar&rsquo;s nominal GDP.&nbsp;

2. Population 
According to an independent survey conducted by Priya DSouza Consultancy, only 12.10 per cent of the population of Qatar is formed by the Qatari nationals, 88 per cent of the population is immigrants, chief among who are Indians. Indians alone comprise 25 per cent of the total population.

In fact, Qataris have been a minority in their own country for a long time. In 1970, the Qatari population was 40 per cent, and as we can see in the graphic below, it has been on a steady decline since.&nbsp;

The Qatari government provides free health care, education and electricity, as well as guaranteed access to high-paying jobs in the public sector, subsidised fuel, interest-free housing loans and stipends for education abroad.&nbsp;

However, not all immigrants enjoy&nbsp;these privileges, such as the daily labourers whose living conditions are&nbsp;nowhere close that of a Qatari national.&nbsp;

4. Emir Family

EMIR means the person who gives orders. It was the name of any group leader and over the years it has become the name of the governor or the sons of the&nbsp;governor.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the eighth and current Emir of Qatar. Education

The current Emir, Sheikh Tamim studied in&nbsp;Britain&rsquo;s Sherborne School (International College) in 1997. He then attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, graduating in 1998. His mother Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned is the second of three wives of The Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Marhaba reports that she serves as Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), a private non-profit organisation founded in 1995. Sheikha Mozah is the driving force behind Education City and Al Jazeera Children&rsquo;s Channel.

There is little or no critical reporting of domestic or foreign policy affairs. The government also filters the material available to the 2.2 million people online in the country, blocking material deemed offensive to Islam, pornographic content and online privacy resources.

6. Tourism 
Qatar government has been increasingly showing interest in tourism. Doha is a world class city in the making, and with 2022 FIFA World Cup coming to the country, infrastructure is being set up to attract tourists. Using the internet expansively, the commercial bank of Qatar has reached out to the world with its website lifeinqatar.com. Similar efforts have been done by the tourism department independently of the bank, in form of visitqatar.qa.

7. Status of Women in Society

Women in Qatar lead fairly liberal lives in comparison to other Muslim states. Women don&rsquo;t need to wear the Abaya (a long black robe which covers the clothes worn underneath) or Hijab (head scarf). The general rule is that when in public a woman&#39;s clothing should cover the shoulders, upper arms and knees. Women have access to schooling and employment and have the right to drive and travel outside the country. Education is considered to be empowering in Qatar.&nbsp;

The current spat between Qatar and the three Gulf countries, Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt (the latter does not form a part of the Gulf States) has brought Qatar in the limelight regarding Islamic extremism, terrorism, and funding terrorist groups. Qatar has however denied these allegations. There are a few facts about Qatar the world does not know. 1. GDP and economic sectors Qatar has the world's highest GDP per capita i.e. $129,726. Since Qatar is largely dependent on oil and gas revenue, fluctuations in oil prices result in a dampened outlook. Nonetheless, growth in manufacturing, construction and financial services have lifted the non-oil sectors to just over half of Qatar’s nominal GDP. 2. Population According to an independent survey conducted by Priya DSouza Consultancy, only 12.10 per cent of the population of Qatar is formed by the Qatari nationals, 88 per cent of the population is immigrants, chief among who are Indians. Indians alone comprise 25 per cent of the total population.
