In the wake of Financial Action Terror Force's (FATF) warning to Pakistan for taking prompt action or face blacklisting if it does not control terror-funding in the next few months, China on Friday condemned terrorism in all forms and urged all countries to strengthen their fight against terrorism.

In an exclusive interview to ANI on recently concluded Xi- Modi informal meeting in Tamil Nadu, China's ambassador to India, Sun Weidong, said "India and China are committed to combating terrorism in all its forms. We have also urged all countries to strengthen international cooperation in fighting terrorism."

With Beijing assuming the chair of FATF earlier this year, it may seem that Pakistan may escape blacklisting as of now. But trouble continues to loom large over Pakistan if it does not take immediate action on terror funding and terror emanating from its soil.

"Pakistan has been asked to swiftly complete its full action plan by February 2020 and its failure to do so can lead to blacklisting," FATF President Xiangmin Liu said on Friday during a press conference in Paris after completion of the plenary session.

India has time and again raised concerns over Pakistan sponsoring and aiding cross border terrorism.

According to Pakistani media reports, during the visit, Khan had sought help from China to evade blacklisting by FATF.

Pakistan's heaviest man, who weighs over 330 kg, has been shifted to a military hospital here after the wall of his house was broken by emergency service personnel with the help of the army.

Noorul Hassan, 55, a resident of Sadiqabad district of Punjab province, some 400kms from Lahore, is suffering from extreme obesity.

On Tuesday, personnel from the Rescue 1122 had to break the wall of his house to take him outside as he was too big to pass through the main gate of his house.

Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa made special arrangements for Hassan's transfer and treatment after he appealed to him for help on social media.

Hassan, who is unable to move freely due to being overweight and also because of other medical complications, will get treatment, including laparoscopic surgery, at the hospital in Lahore.

On Tuesday, he was shifted to a military hospital for examination in Lahore. Later, he was shifted to Shalamar Hospital Lahore, a health facility under a public-private partnership.

According to media reports, Hassan is the heaviest man in Pakistan, but there is no official confirmation about this.

Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will brief the parliamentarians next week on "hostile situation at the Line of Control" in the aftermath of recent tension with India, media reports said on Sunday.

The briefing, to be held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on April 4, will be attended by the members of standing committees of the National Assembly and Senate on defence, Dawn reported.

General Bajwa will "brief the parliamentarians on hostile situation at the Line of Control", it said.

The paper said that it will be the second briefing by the army chief to the parliamentarians over one month.

Earlier, parliamentarians were briefed in an in-camera session held at Parliament House on February 27, the day the Pakistan Air Force carried out a raid in India. However, Prime Minister Imran Khan did not attend the briefing.

This week's briefing would be attended by a number of prominent leaders from the opposition parties, including former ministers, as they are members of the two committees.

According to a notification issued by the National Assembly Secretariat, chairman of the NA committee Amjad Ali Khan would lead the delegation of members of the National Assembly, the lower house.

Defence Minister Pervez Khattak has also been invited as he is an ex-officio member of both standing committees.

The lawmakers have been told to assemble at Gate No 1 of Parliament House at 10 a.M. And those who intend to proceed directly to GHQ have been asked to provide registration numbers of their vehicles before the meeting.

But for analysts, the Asia tour -- the largest outing on the international scene for the Saudi royal since his participation in the G20 summit in Argentina last December -- is a timely demonstration to the West that he still has friends in rising Asia.

He "wants to demonstrate that he is not an international pariah", said James M. Dorsey, a researcher at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore.

It is a matter of proving that he still has "international access and he can function... as the most senior representative of Saudi Arabia beyond the king".

Li Guofu, director of Middle East studies at the China Institute of International Studies, a government-affiliated think tank, noted that the Khashoggi case continues to cause indignation in Western countries, so visiting them would have been "inconvenient".

"Not travelling to the West does not mean that he cannot come to the East. Saudi Arabia is also making strategic adjustments, and Asia is the new main direction of Saudi diplomacy," he said.

Asian countries, he added, "have an important special characteristic -- that is, we don't interfere in the internal affairs of other countries".&nbsp;

The prince's trip also includes an important economic component.

"China is the largest buyer of Saudi crude, and Saudi Arabia's other largest clients are all Asian: India, Japan, South Korea," said Dorsey.

"Asia is a source of inward investment into Gulf energy and infrastructure investment; and the future growth of the global economy will be in Asia," said Karen Young, an analyst with the American Enterprise Institute.

Progressive Pakistani thinkers have expressed their grave concerns over Pakistan's drift towards authoritarianism, expansion of the military's control over public policy and weakening of civilian institutions.

Addressing a conference titled 'Democracy, Human Rights and Ending Terrorism in Pakistan', <a href="http://www.wionews.com/south-asia/terrorism-and-international-isolation-threat-to-pak-says-former-pak-envoy-to-us-184530">Husain Haqqani</a>, the former Ambassador of Pakistan to the US said, "Pakistan is only a democracy in name not in reality."&nbsp;

The event was organised by South Asians Against Terrorism &amp; for Human Rights (SAATH) Forum.&nbsp;

He raised concerns over growing threats to minority communities and the deteriorating human rights situation in the country where the elected government has failed to protect civil rights.

Assurances given by current Pakistan Army Chief (General Qamar Javed Bajwa) proved sufficient to halt target killings of Hazara citizens in Balochistan, which raises questions as to why similar assurances and actions were not available under previous army chiefs, Haqqani said.

He added, "Sindhi and Balochi language provinces are the oppressed groups and communities in Pakistan. Their culture and languages are being eliminated in the name creating a uniform country. Countries don`t become strong by eliminating diversity - they become strong by embracing it."

The participants denounced blocking of websites, including Voice of America (VOA), stifling of debate and freedom of media.

The conference condemned the practice of abductions of journalists and bloggers and threats to Pakistani dissidents and social media activists abroad.

The conference demanded action to be taken against hate groups and <a href="http://www.wionews.com/photos/pakistans-terror-triangle-general-zia-musharraf-the-hafiz-saeed-connection-578#who-was-zia-ul-haq-60079">extremist organisations</a> like the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa, also known as Lashkar-e-Taiba, ostensibly being mainstreamed by the security establishment.

Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed death sentences to 11 "hardcore terrorists", nearly three weeks after he approved the execution of 13 others.

General Bajwa approved the capital punishment handed down to the terrorists by a military court for committing "heinous offences" related to terrorism, including killing of 20 security personnel.

The military courts were set up in Pakistan after the deadly Taliban attack on an army school in Peshawar in 2014 which killed more than 150 people, mostly students.

"Chief of Army Staff confirmed death sentences awarded to 11 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism," the Army said in a statement.

It said the terrorists were found guilty of attacking armed forces, law enforcement agencies, destruction of an educational institution and killing of innocent civilians.

"On the whole, they were involved in killing of 69 persons including 49 civilians, 20 Armed Forces/Police Officials and injuring 148 others," the Army said.

Arms and explosives had also been recovered from their possession.

The special military courts also awarded imprisonment to four other convicts for their involvement in militancy-linked activities, the statement said.

The date and venue of trial was not shared due to security reasons.

Bajwa while addressing a passing-out parade of cadets said, "That only through comprehensive and meaningful dialogue a solution could be found for the disputes between the two countries", as quoted by European think-tank European Foundation for South Asian Studies (EFSAS).

This comes after Indian army Chief General Bipin Rawat's statement of April 15 saying that peace is the only solution to improve the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and it could be ensured through a dialogue between India and Pakistan.

He said that Islamabad “remains committed to such a dialogue, but only on the basis of sovereign equality, dignity and honour.”

The peaceful resolution of India-Pakistan disputes, including the core issue of Kashmir, can be found through comprehensive and meaningful dialogue, Bajwa had said earlier.

“It is our sincere belief that the route to peaceful resolution of Pak-India disputes — including the core issue of Kashmir — runs through comprehensive and meaningful dialogue. While such dialogue is no favour to any party, it remains the inevitable precursor to peace across the region. Pakistan remains committed to such a dialogue, but only on the basis of sovereign equality, dignity and honour,” he said.

Addressing the cadets, General Bajwa (57) said Pakistan is a peace-loving country and seeks harmonious and peaceful co- existence with all countries, especially its neighbours, according to the statement.

“However, this desire for peace must not, in any sense, be construed as a sign of weakness. Our valiant Armed Forces are fully prepared to respond across the full spectrum of threat in a befitting manner,” he added.

The Army Chief also reaffirmed his country’s “political and moral support” to the “basic right of self-determination” for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said Pakistan has done its part to cleanse itself of the scourge of terrorism and extremism without any distinction and the efforts have started to bear results.

“We are committed to continue these efforts, not out of any compulsion, but to make Pakistan a safe, prosperous and progressive country,” he said.

According to sources, the civilian government requested the Commander 111 Brigade directly, as per the mail that was leaked to the Pakistan media, violating the protocol. The proper channel would have been through the Chief of Army Staff General (COAS), Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Several hours later, there was no sign of any army movement in Islamabad or Rawalpindi.

New Pak army chief appoints new ISI boss

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the Chief of Army Staff (COA) on Saturday.&nbsp;

Khwaja Asif, the federal minister for defence confirmed the development. &ldquo;Two lieutenant generals were promoted as four star generals, as per the advisory from the prime minister,&rdquo; he informed local media.&nbsp;

The other is Lieutenant General Zubair Hayat who has been appointed as Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC). A formal notification in this regard was issued by the Prime Minister House late on Saturday night.&nbsp;

The new army chief will take charge on November 29 when General Raheel Sharif is set to retire. The ceremony will take place at the military headquarters in Rawalpindi.&nbsp;

Lieutenant General Bajwa was commissioned in 16 Baloch Regiment on October 24, 1980. He is a graduate of Canadian Forces Command and Staff College, in Toronto, Canada.&nbsp;

He also attended Naval Post Graduate University in Monterey, California, USA, and National Defence University in Islamabad.

He was an instructor at School of Infantry and Tactics at Quetta Command and Staff College and at National Defence University.&nbsp;

He was the Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade and Chief of Staff of Rawalpindi Corps. He commanded 16 Baloch Regiment, an Infantry Brigade and has commanded Infantry Division in Northern Areas.&nbsp;

He has commanded a Pakistan Contingent in Congo and was Corp Commander Rawalpindi. Currently, Bajwa holds the post of Inspector General Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters, a position his predecessor General Sharif was also commanding before his elevation to the army chief in 2013.

General Raheel Sharif is set to leave a legacy behind, in terms of turning the image of the military around with an aggressive public relations campaign.

He also undertook major military operations that the previous army chiefs were reluctant to undertake, like the North Waziristan operation in 2014, following which Pakistan has seen a relative calm.

In recent months, however, terror outfits have once again struck in different parts of country, which reflects that the military has not been completely successful at eradicating militant groups operating in Pakistan.

Some have pointed fingers at the fact that while General Sharif promised zero-tolerance for militancy, some militants groups continue to operate freely, with the authorities letting them be.&nbsp;

Also, under General Sharif, the military continued to wield influence in important policy-making areas, especially with regards to foreign and domestic security policy, and ensured that the civil-military imbalance continued to favour the army. For this reason, some in Pakistan say that the prime minister of the country has a peculiar task when it comes to selecting army chiefs, in the sense of choosing his own boss.

General Bajwa takes command of the Pakistan army at a time when tensions with India are at a peak after claims by Indian Army of a surgical strike inside Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The Pakistan Army has rejected the claim.

Following this, cross border firing has intensified, especially on the Line of Control between Pakistan and Indian Kashmir, with both sides claiming the other of violating the ceasefire agreement of 2004.

&nbsp;Owing to such recent tensions,observers say his main focus will be Pakistan&rsquo;s relations with India, and given the history &ndash; the military is known to be not in favour of improving ties with India, as it gives them the relevance they need in Pakistan to continue being in the driving seat, when it comes to policy-making.
