Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou said midfielder Yves Bissouma has been suspended for Monday's trip to Leicester after he was seen inhaling laughing gas in a video on social media.

The 27-year-old has since apologised for what he described as a "severe lack of judgement".

Possession of nitrous oxide - also known as laughing gas - for recreational use has been a criminal offence in the United Kingdom since 2023 and can result in a two-year prison sentence for repeat offenders.

"We've suspended him for Monday's game," said Postecoglou at his pre-match press conference on Thursday. "The door is open for him and hopefully we can help him to realise the decisions he makes impact more than just him.

"Hopefully it allows him to make better decisions moving forward."

Bissouma, who joined Spurs from Brighton for £30m in 2022, had played 45 minutes in Spurs' friendly loss to Bayern Munich on Saturday afternoon.

Later that day he posted a video of himself on social media which showed him inhaling from a balloon.

"I want to apologise for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgement," said Bissouma in a statement. "I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously."

In more positive news for Postecoglou, Dominic Solanke is in line to make his debut as the Premier League gets underway this weekend.

Solanke has joined from Bournemouth in a deal that could rise to £65 million ($83 million) after scoring 19 Premier League goals last season.

"Thankfully, it's what we expected. He's a top pro and a good guy, he's settled into the dressing room really well," added Postecoglou.

"Football-wise you can see he has all the attributes we need. He still needs time to fit in. He's fitting in well with the group and training. We've still got a couple of training sessions to go but he's doing well.&nbsp; He should be (available on Monday)."

Tottenham finished fifth in Postecoglou's first season as they faded after a stunning start to the Australian's reign.

The former Celtic boss believes his side are better placed to qualify for the Champions League this season.

"We feel a lot more settled and better prepared for what's ahead," he said. "There were a lot of unknowns last year at this time. Having said all that, it didn't stop us from having a great start to the season.

"The pleasing thing is pretty much everyone on the list is available and that will be important for us. After the (September) international break, Europe starts and the Carabao (League) Cup, so we'll need all our players."

Premier League: Spurs suspend Yves Bissouma over laughing gas video, confirms manager Ange Postecoglou

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has opened up on the big offer he had during the close season as the side gets ready for the latest Premier League season. Fernandes, having signed a new deal at United, opened up on the move where he could have left the Red Devils. According to Fernandes, it was the club’s desperation to keep him and make him feel important that made him stay at United ahead of the latest season.

"This vote of confidence from the club was very important for me," said Fernandes.

"Even because I was approached [by other clubs], the club was aware that there was a possibility of me leaving, I had concrete offers."

"But the club showed that it needed me, that it was at a time of change, and that they wanted to do things differently."

Manchester United will start the new season on Friday against Fulham at Old Trafford as much is expected from the club. They will be expected to finish in the top four of the Premier League standings, having invested heavily in the team. The team on Tuesday confirmed the arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, after already having acquired the services of Lery Yono in defence.

The club also invested in Joshua Zirkzee in the transfer window, which now puts them in a healthy position to challenge for the Premier League title. However, the club’s primary aim will be to get back into the top four, having missed out on the Champions League football this season. The club will, however, play in the Europa League, having won the FA Cup last term.

Interestingly, the club will be managed by Erik ten Hag, who was on the brink of sack after having endured a tough 2023-24 season. &nbsp;

Premier League: Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes opens up on big offer ahead of latest season

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters admits the legal cases facing Manchester City and other top-flight teams have created "uncertainty and frustration" ahead of the new season.

An independent commission is set to rule on the 115 charges against Premier League champions City for alleged financial breaches during the season.

There are also cases to be resolved involving Leicester and Everton, related to alleged breaches of the league's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).

Asked if the unresolved financial issues would cast a shadow over the 2024/25 season, Masters told Sky Sports: "It does matter, and I understand it creates uncertainty and some frustration but there is no happy alternative to enforcing the rules, which everyone has agreed at the beginning of each season.

"They have looked each other in the eye and shaken each other's hand and said 'we will abide by these rules'. So the Premier League has to enforce rules.

"Whatever difficulty or frustration that creates is part of maintaining and protecting the Premier League's competition, its core values, competitive competition. And that's really my role, and that's what I want to continue doing."

City, who are bidding for an unprecedented fifth successive Premier League title, have won the top-flight crown twice since the charges, which they vehemently deny, were laid in February last year.

Reports have suggested the hearing into City's case could start in September, but Masters refused to be drawn on a timescale.

"I think it does need to be resolved," he said. "It's not in our hands. It's in the hands of an independent panel.&nbsp;

"They are in charge of the timing and the running of the process, and we must let them get on with it."

City's alleged breaches relate to rules requiring the reporting of accurate financial information and the submission of details of manager and player pay information within the relevant contracts.

They also refer to a club's responsibility as a Premier League member to adhere to UEFA's financial regulations and to the league's own profitability and sustainability regulations.

City are alleged to have breached rules requiring them to co-operate and assist with the Premier League's investigation into those breaches, which the league said began in December 2018.

Everton and Nottingham Forest were docked points for PSR breaches last season, and those rules remain in force for the campaign ahead, requiring clubs to limit losses to a maximum of £105 million ($134 million) over three seasons.

"I can't speculate on (whether there will be charges related to the 2023-24 PSR assessment period)," Masters said.

"You can only really adjudicate on it when you have audited accounts and that process doesn't start until towards the end of the year."

Premier League chief says top-flight teams facing legal cases causing 'uncertainty and frustration'

West Ham signed Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a deal worth a reported £15 million ($19 million) on Tuesday. Wan-Bissaka agreed a seven-year contract with the Hammers after spending five years at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old right-back made 190 appearances for United following his 2019 move from Crystal Palace.

He appeared in United's surprise FA Cup final win against Manchester City last season, but was not in United manager Erik ten Hag's plans for the new season. "It's an amazing feeling to be back in London and I'm excited for what's coming," Wan-Bissaka said. "I was born here and I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me."

United are expected to sign Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui to replace Wan-Bissaka. Wan-Bissaka is West Ham's eighth close-season signing after their swoops for Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug, Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman and Guido Rodriguez.

"I can't wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players and push on from there," Wan-Bissaka said. "I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win and a group that has got each others' backs through thick and thin."

Hammers technical director Tim Steidten said Wan-Bissaka's Premier League experience would be valuable for the club's new boss Julen Lopetegui. He could make his debut for West Ham in their opening Premier League game against Aston Villa on August 17.

"He's exactly the type of player we're looking to attract to this club while in the prime years of his career," Steidten said. "He's an incredibly talented defender who we rate very highly and who is superb in one-on-one situations. He's versatile too, which is clearly another positive. "He's played over 170 Premier League games during his career so he knows the division inside-out."

West Ham sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United for a seven-year contract

Premier League champions Manchester City are set to learn their fate in the 115 alleged financial regulations breach in early 2025 as the independent commission is likely to start the hearing in September. According to reports on Monday (Aug 12), Man City could learn their fate as early as the first week of January 2025 having been accused of breaching the financial regulations on multiple occasions. With the verdict set to be delivered in January, Man City could face a possible ban or points deduction in the future.

<h2>Man City set to learn fate in 2025</h2>

According to The Times, a hearing for the alleged breaches was likely to start in November; however, it is now being brought forward to mid-September. It is also reported that the hearing from the independent commission will last for 10 weeks, meaning that the verdict could be out by the first week of January, subject to delays. It is hoped that the verdict could be a setback for Man City who recently won their record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Man City are reported to have breached multiple Premier League regulations between 2009 and 2023 during their golden period. The club would win the Premier League title on eight occasions while winning the Champions League in 2023. The club has been accused of spending a big amount of money in the transfer market despite suffering losses at times.

The club had faced a similar charge in 2020 when UEFA banned Manchester City from European competitions for two seasons. However, that ban was lifted after the Dubai-owned club challenged the matter at the Court of Arbitration for Sports later in the year.

The Times report added that the outcome of a separate legal case that City have brought against league rules that regulate how clubs strike sponsorship or revenue deals with businesses linked to their owners is now due in the next fortnight.

If found guilty of the charges, Manchester City could face a points deduction or even relegation from the top flight, meaning they won’t be able to compete in Europe.

Manchester City to learn fate on 115 charges in early 2025, hearing to start in September: Reports

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said financial sustainability rules must be changed to discourage clubs from cashing in on academy graduates as Conor Gallagher looks set to join Atletico Madrid. The England international would join Mason Mount, Lewis Hall, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ian Maatsen and Callum Hudson-Odoi as products of the Chelsea youth system to be sold over the past two years, while Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah are also expected to leave before the end of August.

Chelsea have needed to recoup funds after splashing well over £1 billion ($1.3 billion) in the past four transfer windows to revamp the squad under new ownership led by LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital. The sale of players who came through the academy is particularly helpful for clubs to comply with financial regulations as the full transfer fee is recorded as a profit in the books.

Profit and sustainability rules that limit Premier League clubs to losses of £105 million ($134 million) across a three-year assessment period have been blamed for a slow summer transfer window so far.

Last season Everton and Nottingham Forest were docked points for breaching the regulations, while newly-promoted Leicester could face one this season for breaches in the 2022/23 campaign.

"This is not Chelsea's problem, these are the rules. All the clubs at this moment are compelled to sell players from the academy because of the rules. It's all of the Premier League clubs' problems," said Maresca, who joined Chelsea from Leicester in June. "It's a shame because in Italy, we have (Francesco) Totti with Roma, 20 years with the same club - one club man. We love that in football, the fans want to see that. But with the rules now it is different from the past."

On whether the rules need to be changed, Maresca added: "If they want to protect academy players, then probably yes." Gallagher was Chelsea's captain for much of last season due to Reece James' injury troubles.

Despite fan unrest at his potential departure, the 24-year-old Gallagher appears headed for Spain to join Atletico in a £33 million deal. Gallagher had just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and reportedly rejected the offer of a two-year extension.

"In this moment, there is something between the club and the player - an agreement to stay or to leave," said Maresca. "These kinds of things happen in every club, every summer and in the end the final decision will be good for everyone. "Hopefully the final decision will be good for Conor and the club."

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca blames rules for academy talent exodus

Indian sides wrapped up the Premier League Next Generation Cup 2024 campaign with Punjab FC securing a terrific 2-0 victory against Aston Villa FC on the final day of the competition. Muthoot FA and East Bengal FC finished sixth and eighth respectively, but Punjab FC earned a podium finish and won the hearts on the back of consecutive wins against Everton FC and Aston Villa FC. They dominated their third-place game today right from kick-off and never gave Aston Villa a chance to crawl back into the proceeding

Punjab FC’s Manglethang Kipgen scored a stunning goal in the 13th minute to continue his sublime run in the competition. Punjab FC is only the second Indian team after&nbsp;RFYC&nbsp;to defeat two Premier League sides in a single edition of the Next Generation Cup.

Omang Dodum applied the finishing touches to the game with a brilliant strike in the 35th minute to double Punjab FC’s lead. An erroneous header attempt by Aston Villa gave Dodum a chance to make a run towards the goal and he found the back of the net with his immaculate finishing skills.

As Punjab FC’s coach Shankarlal Chakravarthy said, the boys were calm and composed before the game and they knew what to do once the whistle sounded. The team studied the opposition and improved on both sides of the field in the first two days of the tournament and their victories in the last two matches were a result of all the hard work. They controlled possession effectively and excelled on both sides of the field.

'Survival of the fittest,' says Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag ahead of upcoming Premier League season

The countdown for the 2024-25 Premier League season is in the final stage as less than one month remains before the start of the latest campaign. Defending champion Manchester City will be poised to add one more title to their cabinet while arch-rivals United will be hoping to bounce back. While Pep Guardiola remains the mastermind of City’s rise, Bruno Fernandes like his counterpart has admitted that transfer mistakes have cost the Red Devils from rising.

<h2>Fernandes agrees with Guardiola</h2>

One of the transfers that has made the headlines is Fernandes’ international teammate and current Man City player Matheus Nunes. The Portuguese international who won the Premier League with Man City last season is reckoned by both Fernandes and Guardiola as a key transfer mistake made by Manchester United. According to Fernandes, his side missed out on the transfer which could have helped them revive their midfield.

Going back to Nunes’ first transfer to England with Wolves, Fernandes stated that he should have joined United rather than Wolves. The midfielder would later transfer to Man City where he has been a key player but is yet to cement his place in the side.

Fernandes told Portuguese media outlet Record,&nbsp;“I've already talked to him. I've already told him that he should have come here (to United) and not there (to Wolves). I'm very happy for him.

Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk will consider his future for both club and country over the next few weeks as he processes the disappointment of semi-final elimination at the European Championship on Wednesday, he said.

Van Dijk, who turned 33 on Monday, said he would spend the next weeks figuring out his next career steps after nine years, and 75 caps, in the Netherlands team, plus with a single season left on his contract at Liverpool.

“I haven't the slightest idea right now. I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international player. Then we'll go for it again, but first recover from this,” Van Dijk told reporters after England beat the Dutch 2-1 to advance to Sunday’s final against Spain.

"After a season like this, where all kinds of things have happened, it gets emotional at the end because you know it's over,” said Van Dijk, who had felt the Dutch were well placed to win the semi-final at the BVB Stadion.

“Especially in the second half I had the feeling the outcome would fall our way. But (Ollie) Watkins was perhaps given a little too much space and he finished well,” he added of the England substitute's goal seconds into stoppage time.

“It hurts a lot that we conceded this goal so late in the match and are now empty-handed. You put everything into it, everyone gives everything and if the goal comes like that in the last minute, that just sucks. Yes ... sorry."

Dutch legend Virgil Van Dijk to consider future after Euro semis loss to England

The hacker responsible for exposing Manchester City of fudging the Premier League Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, way back in 2018, has now threatened to release more evidence against the UAE-owned club.

The hacker responsible for exposing Manchester City of fudging the Premier League Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, way back in 2018, has now threatened to release more evidence against the UAE-owned club. The hacker named, Rui Pinto, founder of the website 'Football Leaks' has alleged that he provided authorities in Germany and France with 'millions' of damning documents that will show City's 'criminal relevancy'. "The Man City releases showed amounts of money being paid into by the club that were not mentioned to the football authorities. These documents are from part of the Premier League investigation into City," Pinto told the OffShore-Alert Marbella Conference via video link. "I have now handed five hard drives to French and German authorities with millions of documents, including more on City and I have described what is on each. I am confident they will find criminal relevancy," he added. Pinto has been under a witness protection programme since 2020 after being handed a four-year suspended sentence by a court in Portugal last year. He avoided prison, despite being found guilty of illegal access to data and attempted extortion. Pinto's legal counsel said they hadn't made the information public yet and refrained from providing a timeline on the said expose. "We have been approached by investigators to share information regarding Manchester City that has not been released before. We haven’t released the information yet but we have a massive file of Manchester City-related documents that has yet to be released. The files will be published at some point, we cannot say when but we will do it." The Portuguese whistleblower had previously leaked plans between clubs to attempt to form the European Super League - a rival to the current UEFA Champions League, along with details of salaries of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Pinto's actions led UEFA to ban City from European competitions for two years but the decision was overturned as the club owned by the vice president of UAE, used its legion of attorneys to get the decision in its favour. It also failed to provide accurate details for player and manager payments from 2009 to 2018. Additionally, it failed to comply with UEFA's ruling, including Financial Fair Play (FFP) between 2013-14 and 2017-18. Between 2015 to 2018, the club has been charged with seven breaches of Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). While the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest have been punished this season for breaching PSR, City are yet to face any action. (With inputs from agencies)

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blasted the Premier League authorities as the club faces multiple off-field issues. United, who will enter the first&nbsp;full season under Ratcliffe’s co-ownership will have the huge task of balancing the pay slip with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) restricting them from spending. According to Ratcliffe, Premier League regulations have seen Manchester United hire more people for off-field work than on-field.

United like City could be dragged into PSR and FFP sanctions if they spend more than their current losses during the summer transfer window. The club is also restricted by UEFA (European football’s governing body) from signing players due to an unknown rule.

<h2>Why is UEFA restricting Manchester United from signing players?</h2>

According to UEFA rules, "No individual or legal entity may have control or influence over more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition," with control defined as: "Being able to exercise by any means a decisive influence in the decision-making of the club."

Under this provision, United cannot sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo as both the French club and Manchester United come under the same bracket of owners and will be unable to sign players. Both United and Nice will also compete in the Europa League, which again adds restrictions on the club’s purchases in the European market. &nbsp;

It comes after a review of training facilities revealed standards had fallen below those of competitors, and following the opening of a state-of-the-art women's and academy building last year.

"We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win," said United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.

"When we conducted a thorough review of the Carrington training facilities and met with our men's first-team players, it was clear the standards had fallen below some of our peers.

"This project will ensure Manchester United's training ground is once more renovated to the highest standards."

The work is expected to last for the whole of the 2024/25 season, during which temporary adaptations will be made to accommodate players and staff.

Norman Foster, a star name in global architecture, has vowed to deliver a design to reflect the "spirit of industry, grit and ambition" of both the club and the city.

Foster has designed some of the world's most iconic buildings, including the HSBC Building in Hong Kong, London's "Gherkin" skyscraper and the reconstructed&nbsp;Reichstag in Berlin.

"As a proud Mancunian, it is a particular honour for me to see Foster + Partners given this responsibility and we will ensure that our design captures the spirit of industry, grit and ambition that exemplifies both Manchester and Manchester United," the architect said.

The review of the club's facilities also identified issues at Old Trafford, where a rainstorm during last month's 1-0 Premier League defeat by Arsenal spectacularly demonstrated a leaking roof at the stadium.

Premier League: Manchester United to transform outdated training HQ into 'world-class' facility

Days after Manchester City went to war with the Premier League by&nbsp;alleging "discrimination" related to the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, another top-tier club is expected to follow&nbsp;suit. Man City sued the league over APT rules that were introduced in December 2021 and revised in January 2024.&nbsp;

Aston Villa is believed to be the second club, planning to&nbsp;launch legal action. Nassef Sawiris, Egypt’s richest man and the billionaire owner of the club, said existing regulations on spending capped the 'ambitious owners' from challenging the established elites - referring to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Some of the rules have actually resulted in cementing the status quo more than creating upward mobility and fluidity in the sport. The rules do not make sense and are not good for football,"&nbsp;Sawiris was quoted as saying by Financial Times.&nbsp;

"Managing a sports team has become more like being a treasurer or a bean counter rather than looking at what your team needs. It’s more about creating paper profits, not real profits. It becomes a financial game, not a sporting game," he added.&nbsp;

Aston Villa finished fourth in the Premier League last season and secured a place in the UEFA Champions League after a lengthy hiatus. However, to sustain at the top level, Villa hierarchy argues that it needs to pump more money to refresh the squad which the current rules make difficult.&nbsp;

<h2>What did Man City do?</h2>

On June 4, it was revealed that City had gone after Premier League to challenge the revision of the APT rules.&nbsp;&nbsp;

City have argued that an independent commission should not evaluate the sponsorship deals. The hearing started on June 10 and is expected to last till June 21.&nbsp;

If the club is successful in the case, it would mean that City, owned by UAE's vice president, could pump as much money into it using companies from the Gulf, already connected with the royal family.

It will also set precedent for other clubs with rich owners, private equity firms and sovereign wealth funds to put inflated amounts of money into the club, thereby breaking the entire Premier League system.&nbsp;

The success that City manager Pep Guardiola has achieved on the field has been smeared with a little asterisk next to it. Apart from setting the stage for a civil war,&nbsp;City are also accused&nbsp;of providing inaccurate financial information between 2009 to 2018, leading to breach of 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.&nbsp;

While the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest have been punished this season for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), City are yet to face any action.

Civil war in Premier League? Another club to launch legal action, following Man City's footsteps

Making a controversial statement on Friday (June 7), Liverpool owner Tom Werner said he wants Premier League matches to be staged in New York. While there are no such plans in process, this adds to the initiative taken by the Spanish and Italian FA, who conduct Super Cup matches abroad in the Middle East. Currently&nbsp;there is no counter reaction to the comment yet from the Premier League, it remains an interesting call to have England’s domestic matches played abroad.

<h2>Liverpool owner makes controversial comment</h2>

"I'm determined one day to have a Premier League game be played in New York City," Werner told the Financial Times.

"I even have the sort of crazy idea that there would be a day where we play one game in Tokyo, one game a few hours later in Los Angeles, one game a few hours later in Rio, one game a few hours later in Riyadh and make it sort of a day where football, where the Premier League, is celebrated,' he further said.

Currently, it is the US sports market that has caught the attention of the European market with NFL and WWE already hosting events in England and other countries. NFL holds at least two matches in England’s Wembley Stadium while they also have an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur which holds another two matches in their stadium.

While the Premier League in near future is no&nbsp;where closer to even having a discussion, it will be interesting to see if such a proposal is put forward. Currently, Spanish Super Cup is held in Saudi Arabia with four teams participating while Italian Super Cup is also held in the Middle East in January.

For now, Werner’s focus will be on the Liverpool side which will have a decisive summer with new manager Arne Slot in charge. The Dutch gaffer was announced as the successor for Jurgen Klopp in May and will look to fill the big void left by him. Werner and Co will have to monitor his performance before giving him full control of the club.

Chelsea have completed the first summer signing of the season as they completed a deal for Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo on Friday (June 7). The deal is a free transfer after the Englishman’s deal expired with Fulham at the end of last season. He will become the first addition to new manager Enzo Maresca’s squad as they try to return to the elites of the Premier League. Chelsea will be playing in Europe in the 2024-25 season after qualifying for the UEFA Conference League.

After signing for the Blues, Tosin said: “Chelsea is a huge club and this is a full-circle moment for me. I was born three miles away from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there. I’m very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go.”

The 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal as he swapped one West London club to the other and will try to become a mainstay at Chelsea. He will be a main addition to the midfield that already consists of Conor Gallagher, Enzo Fernandes and Moisés Caicedo.

Chelsea had a poor start to the Premier League’s 2023-24 season but ended on a high after they finished sixth. They missed out on Champions League football by just six points while also being just three points behind fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues will now look to advance in the transfer window where they are expected to sign a new striker. The list includes the names of Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen as they are high on the team’s wishlist. While Arsenal are also in the race to sign these players, Osimhen is the likeliest target for the side after he confirmed his desire to leave Napoli.

Antonio Conte will be reportedly interested in signing Romelu Lukaku if Osimhen decides to leave. It is reported that Lukaku has no future at the club and will not partner with Nicolas Jackson next season. This leaves both Chelsea and Napoli discussing a possible swap deal.

Premier League clubs have voted to keep Video Assistant Referees (VAR) for the 2024-25 season after a vote was held at the&nbsp;annual general meeting in Harrogate on Thursday (Jun 6). The proposal was put forth by Wolverhampton Wanderers last month that triggered the voting.&nbsp;

All the other 19 clubs voted for the technology to continue but suggested that there was room for improvement. In order for VAR to be scrapped, 14 out of the 20 Premier League clubs needed to vote in favour of the proposal.&nbsp;

Wolves released a statement saying they were "disappointed" by the outcome of the vote but welcomed the Premier League's "commitment to improve VAR".&nbsp;

Premier League said as part of the discussions, it was duty of PGMOL, clubs and the league to improve the system's reputation. It also identified six keys areas where VAR needed to be made efficient.&nbsp;

Notably, Premier League confirmed in April that&nbsp;Semi-Automated Offside Technology will be introduced for the 2024 season. The introduction of the technology, seen at the Qatar World Cup will help officials as they would not have manually draw the lines.&nbsp;

<h2>VAR history and controversies</h2>

VAR was introduced in the top tier of English football five seasons ago in 2019/20 after its successful implementation in the Russia World Cup. However, since then, the technology has been under constant controversy with clubs often ruing that VAR was not doing what it had set out to correct.&nbsp;

After a string of&nbsp;decisions went against Wolves due to VAR in the 2023-2024 season, the club decided to pursue the route of abolishing the technology.&nbsp;

"There is no blame to be placed. We are all just looking for the best possible outcome for football and all stakeholders have been working hard to try and make the introduction of additional technology a success," Wolves said in a statement.&nbsp;

“Our position is that the price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game, and as a result, we should remove it from the 2024/25 season onwards," it added.&nbsp;

While small errors have been part of VAR since its inception, the officials using the VAR system made a massive howler in September last year when&nbsp;Liverpool's Luiz Diaz scored a clear onside goal against Tottenham Hotspur but it was chalked off due to a communication breakdown.&nbsp;

Premier League clubs deliver verdict on scrapping VAR for 2024-25 season

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak has broken silence on the 115&nbsp;charges levelled against the club for breaches of financial fair play (FFP) rules. The new interview&nbsp;has aired less than 24 hours after City sued the Premier League&nbsp;alleging "discrimination" related to the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules.

While City deny all the charges against them, the success that manager Pep Guardiola has achieved on the field has been smeared with a little asterisk next to it.&nbsp;

"Of course it's frustrating, the references to [the charges] are always frustrating... having it being talked about the way it's been talked about," Khaldoon told City's internal media team.

"I can feel, of course, for our fanbase, for everyone associated with the club, to have these charges constantly referenced," he added.

"I think we as a club have to respect that there is a process that we have to go through, and we’re going through it. It’s taking longer than what anyone hoped for, but it is what it is, and I’ve always repeated, let’s be judged by the facts, and not by claims and counterclaims,"&nbsp;Khaldoon further said.

As WION understands, Khaldoon gave the interview before City went to war with Premier League over the legality of APT rules. A hearing is set for 10-21 June to determine whether sponsorship deals are financially fair.&nbsp;

City have argued that an independent commission should not evaluate the sponsorship deals. If the club is successful in the case, it would mean that City, owned by UAE's vice president, could pump as much money into it using companies from the Gulf, already connected with the royal family.&nbsp;

Manchester City break silence on 115 charges, less than 24 hours after going to war against Premier League

Manchester City have launched legal action against the Premier League alleging "discrimination" in a move that could have far-reaching consequences for the English top flight, The Times reported on Tuesday (Jun 4).

Manchester City have launched legal action against the Premier League alleging "discrimination" in a move that could have far-reaching consequences for the English top flight, The Times reported on Tuesday (Jun 4). The publication said the recently crowned champions would try to end the league's associated party transaction (APT) rules, which they claim to be unlawful, and thus seek damages. The Premier League tightened rules regarding APTs, relating to clubs signing sponsorship deals with companies linked to their owners, in February. The Times added the dispute between City and the Premier League would be settled after a two-week arbitration hearing starting next Monday (Jun 10). Abu Dhabi-owned City sealed a fourth straight Premier League title last month, underlining their domination of the English game over the past decade. Their rapid rise has been aided by sponsorship deals with a series of related parties in the Gulf. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways is both City's stadium and shirt sponsor. In a separate case City, managed by Pep Guardiola, are facing 115 Premier League charges for alleged breaches of regulations and financial rules between 2009 and 2023 -- charges they strongly deny. That hearing is reportedly set for November. The Times report said City, in a 165-page legal document, argue they are victims of "discrimination" and refer to a "tyranny of the majority" aimed at stifling their success on the pitch. All Premier League rule changes and major broadcast and commercial proposals require the approval of at least two-thirds of those who vote or 14 of the 20 clubs. If City are successful in their legal fight, it could enable the richest clubs to value their sponsorship deals without independent assessment, further widening the financial gulf within the English top flight. The Times said between 10 and 12 clubs had come forward, providing either witness statements or letters detailing evidence, in support of the Premier League's defence against City's claim. The Times said City are suing the Premier League for damages, referring to losses incurred as a result of the existing rules. City say the rules were imposed at the instigation of rival clubs reacting to the Saudi takeover of Newcastle, which took place in 2021, with the aim to "safeguard their own commercial advantages", according to the report. City have accused rival teams of "discrimination against Gulf ownership", citing the comments of one senior club executive, The Times said.

The proposal brought by Wolverhampton Wanderers to scrap&nbsp;Video Assistant Referees (VAR) from next season is expected to be voted down by the other Premier League clubs at annual general meeting set to take place on&nbsp;Thursday (May 6) in Harrogate.&nbsp;

While clubs sympathise with Wolves for bringing forth the proposal, most are in favour of "evolution rather than revolution" regarding the technology, according to a report in Telegraph.&nbsp;

With majority of the&nbsp;clubs expected to cast ballot to keep the technology, various improvements and tweaks to the existing system could be pursued, the report added.&nbsp;

VAR was introduced in the top tier of English football five seasons ago in 2019/20 after its successful implementation in the Russia World Cup. However, since then, the technology has been under constant controversy with clubs often ruing that VAR was not doing what it had set out to correct.&nbsp;

After a string of&nbsp;decisions went against Wolves due to VAR in the 2023-2024 season, the club decided to pursue the route of abolishing the technology.&nbsp;

"There is no blame to be placed. We are all just looking for the best possible outcome for football and all stakeholders have been working hard to try and make the introduction of additional technology a success," Wolves said in a statement.&nbsp;

“Our position is that the price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game, and as a result, we should remove it from the 2024/25 season onwards," it added.&nbsp;

Wolves’ proposal to scrap VAR expected to be shot down by Premier League clubs: Report

Nordin Amrabat, brother of Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Ambrabat has claimed that Casemiro was not injured for the FA Cup final last month but chose to sit out after realising he wasn't given a place in the starting XI by manager Erik ten Hag. Although United managed to pull off a surprise victory over Manchester City in the match, Casemiro remained missing with Ten Hag claiming the Brazilian was not 100 per cent fit for the match. "Casemiro was not injured in the FA Cup Final. He found out that he wouldn't start, so he thought to himself, okay I will sit in the stands then. He was fit to play," Nordin told Z Select. Casemiro, who had been playing in a makeshift backline in the absence of key defenders had put some horrid performances in the lead-up to the final. It was perhaps the reason why Ten Hag preferred to go with Sofyan instead of him while Raphale Varane and Lisandro Martinez formed the centre-back pairing. However, after the controversy snowballed, Nordin took to social media and said he had no 'ill intention' of making such a 'speculative' statement and that it was wrong on his part. "Today during an interview on television it was suggested that my brother only played in the cup final due to an injury to another player. My response to this was pure speculation and my only motivation was to defend my brother who was on the field due to his own merit and hard work," wrote Nordin. "My words have been taken out of context, there was no ill intention whatsoever and to suggest another player chose not to play is wrong. I don’t know what happened on the day, so let’s move on from this non story." he added. "As we look at the injuries they've picked up, some of those players can play, 100 per cent," said Rooney after Arsenal beat United 1-0 at Old Trafford. "When you have the European Championship coming up and an FA Cup final, it's easy for players to stay out of it a little bit, get back for the final and make sure they're ready for the European Championship. I've seen it myself over the years," added Rooney. "The players who are injured are not filling themselves in any credit at the minute. The manager is going to take all the stick for that." "Players are desperate to play, they want to be in the right shape. You see also Victor Lindelöf and Raphaël Varane, they are training to make themselves available for the [FA Cup] final. They do what they can do.” While Ten Hag has bought himself some time after FA Cup heroics, the same cannot be said about Casemiro whose contract runs till 2026 with the club. There are murmurs that Casemiro could be binned to Saudi Arabia as his Premier League form has taken a massive dip. (With inputs from agencies)

Manchester United's Casemiro accused of faking injury to avoid FA Cup final

Former Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed what went down between him and manager Mikel Arteta that led to his ouster from the London-based club.

Former Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed what went down between him and manager Mikel Arteta that led to his ouster from the London-based club. Aubameyang was offloaded to Barcelona in January 2022 after having a falling out with Arteta over what club described at the time as 'disciplinary issues'. Aubameyang was the club captain when he led Arsenal to FA Cup glory in 2020. However, by early 2021, he was dropped out of the squad after missing crucial matches, including the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. The breakdown in relationship When Aubameyang's mother fell ill and the Gabon striker was forced to tend to her, the relationship between him and the club took a nosedive. After initially taking permission to go to his mother, Aubameyang had to stay back due to additional examinations that her mother had to undergo. Upon returning to London, Arteta went ballistic on him, in front of the entire team. “I arrive, the coach finishes his meeting and then he grabs me and he completely tears into me, he shouts at me like I'm crazy, he says: 'You put a knife in my back. You can't do that to me given the times we're going through'. At that moment I tell myself that I'm not going to answer him because it's going to end angrily," Aubameyang told Colinterview. He knows very well the reason for my departure, so at that moment, I don't understand why he is lecturing me like this. I go home and the doctor calls me and says, 'Tomorrow, the coach doesn't want you to be there.' I said 'OK', I knew the next match was coming and I said to myself, 'Damn once again everyone is going to talk about it, it's going to be a mess, what is this crazy thing?' I couldn't understand it," he added. After the striker was stripped off his captaincy, Norway's Martin Odegaard was handed the responsibility as Arteta sought to impose himself on the club. Aubameyang was brought to Arsenal by former manager Arsene Wenger in 2018 for a then-club-record fee. His FA Cup win with Arsenal remains the last major trophy the club have won since, despite making major improvements in the squad. (With inputs from agencies)
