The crisis has expanded beyond battlefield clashes. An explosion damaged a major gas transmission pipeline, disrupting supplies to several areas, while seven miners working for a private copper mining company were reportedly abducted by armed men.

Baloch activists have also alleged that Pakistani fighter jets carried out strikes in the Surab region, claiming civilian casualties. These allegations have not been independently verified, while Pakistan’s military has presented a different account of the reported deaths.

The security situation in Balochistan is escalating as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claims to have carried out 38 operations across the province in eight days.

According to the claims cited in the report, the attacks targeted Pakistani military convoys, armoured vehicles, camps and patrols, along with police posts, trade routes, bridges, railway infrastructure and commercial vehicles. The BLA has also claimed casualties among Pakistani security personnel and the seizure of military equipment.

Pakistani authorities have not independently verified all of the BLA's claims.

The latest developments come amid reports of intensified clashes between Baloch militants and Pakistani security forces. The report also cites allegations of Pakistani airstrikes in Balochistan that reportedly killed civilians, including women and children.

According to reports, the explosion derailed eight cars, including the engine of the train which was travelling en route to Peshawar. The province is also home to the deep-water Gwadar port which is being developed as a part of China’s $65 billion “Belt and Road” investment in Pakistan.

As per Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack was successfully foiled while the attackers were neutralized with heavy casualties inflicted to the insurgents.

In Naushki, nine militants were killed, while the army lost four security forces personnel, including an officer level soldier.

In Panjgur, security forces repulsed the attacks after an intense exchange of fire after which the militants fled.&nbsp;

The army said that the security forces carried out the clearance operations to hunt down hiding terrorists in the vicinity.

While four fleeing insurgents were killed at Panjgur, four others terrorists were encircled the next day (February 3) by security forces.

After a two-day-long stand-off, all the encircled insurgents were killed in Saturday’s operation as they failed to surrender, the ISPR said.

During the operation, five security forces lost their lives while six soldiers were injured.

“Our security forces stand firm and resolutely committed to eliminating the menace of terrorism from our soil no matter what the cost,” the ISPR said.

In a press release dated February 3, 2022, the militant organisation said that major parts of Panjgur and Nushki military camps in Pakistan were still under its control. "Large parts of camps have been completely destroyed. Backup troops have arrived for the enemy forces. However, they have failed to weaken fidayee positions inside the camp."

The ethnic Baloch militants have been fighting the government for decades seeking independence. They say that the government unfairly exploits Balochistan’s rich gas and mineral resources.

Balochistan province has been the scene of intense fighting between the rebel forces and the Pakistan Army.

The Balochistan Nationalist Army was established last month when two minor separatist groups – the Balochistan Republican Army and the United Baloch Army – merged and vowed to continue attacks.

The latest violence comes a week after armed fighters killed 10 soldiers in an attack on a security post in the town of Kech in Balochistan province, which has been the site of a long-running armed rebellion.

The attacks have been growing in numbers ever since the involvement of China through its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Jalila Haider who belongs to the Hazara community has led "peaceful hunger strike to recognise the right to life for the Hazara following a series of targeted attacks," the US government said.
