India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday (February 23) yet again spoke of Pakistan's tacit support to terror groups at a time when the country faces multiple economic challenges and almost dismissed the idea of helping the western neighbour to come out of its economic mess. No country can come out of a difficult situation, Jaishankar insisted, "if it's basic industry is terrorism".&nbsp; 
 
"Terrorism is a fundamental issue in relationship with Pakistan... we must not be in denial of it," the Foreign Minister said at an event. The minister, who is known for making sharp comments about China and Pakistan on international platforms while&nbsp;reflecting the government's stand, dropped clear hints at not extending any help to Pakistan for helping it tide over the crises by saying that he will consider the local public sentiment while making any such big decision.

"...If I were to look at any big decision I am making, I will also look at what is the public sentiment. I would have a pulse what do my people feel about it. And I think you know the answer," Jaishankar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 
 
Underlining that India is a very "forbearing and patient country", he stressed that the nation "will do whatever it takes to protect its borders".

Pakistan is facing one of its worst economic crises. Earlier last year, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan was ousted out of power amid accusations over poor handling of the economic crises. Despite his removal, the situation has hardly improved amid a political blame-game. Even as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has delayed its next tranche of $6.5 billion loan, China and Pakistan now come to the rescue of the country. Beijing has reportedly lent a $700 million loan to shore up the country's foreign reserves, which have hit a new low.

The officers told Dawn that the medics were hired in April 2021 under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP) to take care of district areas. They said that the government sanctioned 300 positions for medical officers with a monthly package of Rs 200,000 ($2,418).&nbsp;

Officials added that against 300 posts, only 283 appointments were made but many doctors either resigned or were terminated over legal reasons bringing the tally down to 172.&nbsp;

The government again&nbsp;announced over 200 vacancies of emergency medical officers with a monthly salary of Rs 300,000 but couldn't find candidates, so only 36 appointments were made.&nbsp;Similarly, they said that the government announced 100 posts of medical specialists with a monthly package of Rs 450,000 but could fill&nbsp;18 only.&nbsp;

The officer said that due to such initiatives medical facilities and care in tribal areas of the south Asian country have improved but are not working any more due to delayed salaries.&nbsp;

A few days back, on Dec 13, a six-year-old Afghan girl was allegedly raped and killed after she went outside her house. Her body was recovered later from a deserted house near the Gulshan-e-Myanmar Afghan checkpoint.&nbsp;

On Dec 08, a teenage girl was raped and murdered by a man in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood. Similarly, on Dec 6, a 12-year-old girl was killed after she was raped&nbsp;in a house located in the Jacob Lines area.&nbsp;

Karachi police official data showed that eight out of 216 abuse cases showed that victims were aged five years. Among the remaining 40 were between six and 10, 38 were between 15 and 18 and 95 were over the age of 18.&nbsp;

War Against Rape (WAR) which focuses on investigating these cases stated that such cases until July showed that 42 cases were investigated, and 28 survivors were children amongst 18 years.&nbsp;

In terms of nature, 64 per cent of the cases were of rape, 18 per cent of gang rape, 12 per cent of incest and six per cent of sexual assault.&nbsp;

Stating possible reasons for such occurrences, many have believed that police negligence or delay is found to be one of the causes for the culprits succeeding in such brutal acts, many have allegedly killed victims' family members to hide their identities or to avoid their arrests.&nbsp;
