<p>The five men wrongly convicted of raping a jogger in New York's Central Park in 1989 said on Sunday that a new Netflix Inc series about their case revived the pain from their ordeal but, for some, brought a sense of redemption.</p>

<p>In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the men who became known as the "Central Park Five" said they were grateful that the four-episode dramatic series called 'When They See Us'&nbsp;humanized them and used their story to spotlight injustice.</p>

<p>"It's bittersweet," said one of the men, Kevin Richardson, as he sat on stage with the others. "Watching this is painful, but it's necessary. It needs to be watched."</p>

<p>The five men - Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise - were 14 to 16 years old at the time of the rape and confessed after lengthy police interrogations. The victim was white and the defendants all black or Hispanic.</p>

<p>Each soon recanted, insisting they had admitted to the crime under coercion from police officers. But they all were convicted and served prison terms of six to 13 years.</p>

<p>Their convictions were overturned, in 2002, after another man confessed to the crime and DNA tests confirmed his guilt. In 2014, they settled a lawsuit against for $41 million.</p>

<p>"It brought back a lot of pain," McCray said of the series. "I thought I was over it."</p>

<p>McCray, who broke into tears during the discussion, said he did not feel any sense of redemption and still suffered from the trauma of being falsely accused and imprisoned.</p>

<p>"Even to this day, I'm damaged. I need help. I know it," said McCray, who added that he has rejected his wife's request that he go to therapy. "The system broke a lot of things that can't be fixed."</p>

<p>Asked if had forgiven his father, who urged him to confess to the crime, McCray said: "I hate him. My life is ruined."</p>

<p>"No, it's not," an audience member shouted.</p>

<p>The interview, part of a Netflix campaign for television's Emmy awards, was recorded and will premiere on Netflix and on Winfrey's cable channel OWN on Wednesday.</p>

McCray, who broke into tears during the discussion, said he did not feel any sense of redemption and still suffered from the trauma of being falsely accused and imprisoned. "Even to this day, I'm damaged. I need help. I know it," said McCray, who added that he has rejected his wife's request that he go to therapy. "The system broke a lot of things that can't be fixed." <p>Talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who has been touted this week as a possible 2020 candidate for the White House, was among those affected by the mudslides.</p>

Golden Globes 2018: 'LadyBird', 'Three Billboards' win top honours amid barbed comments on sexual harassment

<p>Golden Globes 2018 will go down in history as the year when Hollywood together showed support to victims of sexual harassment and called for a change in the way the film industry functions. From me too movement, to wage gap to a need for more representation of women in various aspects of filmmaking - Hollywood took a leap towards change at the awards ceremony.&nbsp;<br />

While most winners delivered poignant speeches, it was Oprah Winfrey who owned the night with her rousing speech.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The actress/activists/ chat show host was honoured with the prestigious &nbsp;Cecil B. DeMille award on Sunday night and she called for a world free of sexual abusers where nobody ever has to say `Me too` again.<br />
Winfrey`s inspirational and moving speech, which drew a standing ovation from the Who`s Who of Hollywood, saw her talk about people speaking out the truth and fighting for justice.</p>

And I`m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories,&quot; she said in reference to the slew of sexual abuse allegations against men in and outside Hollywood.<br />

Stressing that it`s not just a story affecting the entertainment industry, Winfrey, 63, said: &quot;It`s one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics, or workplace. So I want to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue.<br />

&quot;They`re the women whose names we`ll never know. They are domestic workers and farm workers. They are working in factories and they work in restaurants and they`re in academia, engineering, medicine, and science. They`re part of the world of tech and politics and business. They`re our athletes in the Olympics and they`re our soldiers in the military.&quot;<br />

Winfrey took the audience through the story of the late Recy Taylor, a woman who in 1944 was kidnapped and raped, but never got justice.<br />
<br />
&quot;Recy Taylor died ten days ago, just shy of her 98th birthday. She lived as we all have lived, too many years in a culture broken by brutally powerful men. For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. Their time is up,&quot; Winfrey said, her voice exuding the confidence which sets her apart.<br />

Winfrey had begun her speech by reminiscing about being a young girl in 1964, watching Sidney Poitier become the first black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.</p>

<p>&quot;I`d never seen a black man being celebrated like that,&quot; Winfrey said of the moment in 1982.</p>

<p>&quot;It is not lost on me that at this moment, there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given this same award.&quot;</p>

Hollywood fraternity turned up in black to receive the awards in order to show support for Time's Up campaign against culture of forced sexual favours by those in power

Sunday night (Monday morning in India) opened to a glamorous awards show, a first of this year, with Hollywood walking the red carpet in black attire in support of victims of abuse and sexual harassment -- after it was exposed last year that the entertainment industry was one of the biggest ill-treating networks for women. Oprah Winfrey, whose talk show ended in 2011, sold the facility to a real estate developer two years ago.<br />
