Pielieshenko hadn't participated in any event since 2018 after he was suspended for eight years for failing a drug test.

The Ukrainian Weightlifting Association also shared a heartfelt condolence message on social media, which read: "It is with great sadness that we announce that today the heart of the honored master of sports of Ukraine, two-time European weightlifting champion Oleksandr Pielieshenko, stopped beating. We express our sincere condolences to the family and all who knew Oleksandr!"

Ukraine's weightlifting coach Viktor Slobodianiuk also wrote: "I express my sincere condolences to the family and relatives of Oleksandr! This is a very heavy loss for the entire weightlifting community of Ukraine. heroes do not die."

Pielieshenko is the first Olympian to have died in war against Russia which is in its third year. Russia had invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

The incident might cast a shadow on participation of Russian athletes in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. The Russian athletes were already asked to participate under the neutral flag at the event.

Paris 2024 is getting ready to face an unprecedented challenge in terms of cybersecurity, with organisers expecting a huge pressure on the Games this summer. Organised crime, activists and states will be the main threats during the July 26-Aug. 11&nbsp;Olympics&nbsp;and the Aug. 28-Sept. 8 Paralympics. To make sure they are in the game, Paris 2024 have been paying "ethical hackers" to stress test their systems and have been using artificial intelligence to help them do a triage of the threats.

"AI helps us make the difference between a nuisance and a catastrophe," said Franz Regul, managing director for IT at Paris 2024. "We're expecting the number of cyber security event to be multiplied by 10 compared to Tokyo (in 2021)." In 2018, a computer virus dubbed "Olympic Destroyer" was used in an attack on the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Games.

While Moscow denied any involvement, the U.S. Justice Department in 2020 said it has indicted six Russian intelligence agency hackers for a four-year long hacking spree that included attacks against the Pyeongchang Games. "We would like to have one opponent but we're looking into everything and everyone. Naming the potential attackers is not our role, it is the role of the state," Strubel said.

This year, the winner of the women's category, Pauline Van Wymeersch, completed the race in 14 minutes and 12 seconds. She started working as a server at 16 and, at 34, cannot imagine any other life for herself. Despite the challenges of the profession, she expressed her love and dedication, saying, "It's in my skin. I cannot leave it."

Samy Lamrous won the men's race with a time of 13 minutes and 30 seconds.&nbsp;

Both winners received medals, two tickets each for the July 26 Olympic opening ceremony along the River Seine, and a night at a Paris hotel.

While the event was filled with smiles, participants acknowledged the demanding nature of their jobs. In France, waiters and waitresses are known for their assertiveness and can even be seen as abrupt or moody at times. However, they take pride in their profession and are not afraid to stand their ground.

Highlighting the importance of cafés and restaurants, Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, called the city's wait staff "the soul of Paris."&nbsp;

World Boxing will seek recognition from Olympic organisers to replace the Russian-led International Boxing Association and keep the troubled sport on the programme for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, the fledgling body said on Wednesday.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stripped the IBA of recognition last June after saying it had failed to complete reforms on governance, finance and ethical issues.

The boxing tournaments at the Paris Games are being organised by the IOC but sports director Kit McConnell said this week that the Executive Board had stressed the situation could not continue. "This must be the last time that such a process can be undertaken by the IOC," he said. "Following the decision by the IOC Session last year, the inclusion of boxing in the LA28 Olympic programme is on hold and not confirmed."

French investigators have raided the offices of the 2024 Paris Olympics organisers and event management firms involved in the opening ceremony, sources close to the probe told AFP on Thursday.

The sources said the raids took place on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged favouritism in the awarding of contracts linked to the Olympics.

The searches are part of investigations into contracts awarded for the Games that are being led by the French National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF).

"Paris 2024 confirms that the PNF attended its headquarters on Wednesday, October 18 and obtained all of the information that it asked for. Paris 2024 is cooperating fully with the investigation as it has always done," the organising committee said in a statement.

The first raids took place in June, targeting the organising committee's headquarters and the offices of Solideo, the company responsible for the construction of Olympic sites.

Investigators then also raided the homes of two of its high-ranking officials, Etienne Thobois, the Chief Executive Officer of Paris 2024, and Edouard Donnelly, the executive director of operations, and the offices of a consulting firm the two men founded.

A source close to the investigation said it concerned around 20 contracts.

The Paris Olympics take place from July 26 to August 11.

The Executive Board can then enter targeted dialogue with a bid and then decide whether to recommend that a proposal be brought to a vote at an IOC Session.

Speaking after Friday’s meeting, President Bach was optimistic about the inclusion of the sport as the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other bodies pushed for its inclusion. While there is approval for cricket to be included in the LA 2028 Olympics, the sport will still need to be voted in by the IOC membership in a ballot due to be held on Monday before they are assured of a place at the 2028 Games.

Cricket was last included in the Olympics in 1900 when it was held in Paris with cricketing bodies formerly pushing for it to be included in the 2020 games. The shortest version of the game – the T20 (20 over per side) format was put on the proposal in the IOC meeting, where it has now got the green lights. The LA organisers also approved its inclusion paving the way for cricket to be part of the popular tournament.

This will be a positive sign for the Indian Olympics as they will be one of the hot favourites to win a medal if it gets the final green light. India’s men’s and women’s teams recently won gold medals in the Asian Games, which are encouraging signs for the nation in the build-up to the games.

India has been building on their Olympics success in recent years having amassed a record tally of seven medals in the Tokyo Olympics including a gold medal for Neeraj Chopra in athletics. India also won six medals in the 2012 London Games, showing signs of great development in the Olympics.

Cricket’s inclusion could see India build on the recent success, especially in the gold medals tally. India gave won 10 gold medals in the Olympics with eight of those coming in hockey.
