Watch 'October' trailer: Varun Dhawan is the romantic hero we need

The cinematic world of Shoojit Sircar is vastly different from the films Varun Dhawan is usually associated with and the director admits that he did have a certain perception about the actor before he worked with him. The director was speaking during the trailer launch event of his next film October that stars Varun in the lead.

Shoojit has worked with Varun for the first time in their upcoming romantic drama.

"I had a different perception (of him) altogether, of people who become overnight stars with crazy fan following, which I'm not used to. I'm used to my kind of cinema which, if people like it, I'm happy, if not, I'm still happy because I got to tell my story my way.

"I asked him, will you surrender yourself and are you honest? He said 'I'm an honest person, this, what you see outside (image) is not me.' I told him to be himself in the film. I just narrated two lines to him while he was going to shoot another film," he added.

The "Piku" director said his brief to Varun for the film was to detach himself momentarily from cell phones.

"I said as a process to prepare for the film, 'don't check your phone first thing in the morning as was his habit and instead as soon as you get up, go and sit on front of a plant and watch it for ten minutes. That's your job.' For almost one year, my instruction was, to get up and watch the plant and breathe."

Varun, 30, said he couldn't do anything which he had done in his previous films for October.

"This film is based on honesty, I couldn't do anything else which I do on other films. I couldn't remove my shirt, dance, couldn't behave cute, I couldn't do all those things. I stopped applying make up and still he (Shoojit) would come and say 'make it a little less...'"

The process on set was different for Varun as he was coming straight from Judwaa 2, a film which was louder in tone.

"I had just done Judwaa 2 and come for this film so my pitch was loud always. He told me, in real life Varun, if we are sitting next to each other, why would you shout? Do you have a problem with anyone? So he asked me to lower my pitch to a point that I felt there was a marker!

"I started shooting the film and till the end, I don't know what he did because I was not acting the way I feel I'm acting. It was just a very different experience, all thanks to him, Juhi (Chaturvedi) and Banita (Sandhu).

Delhi Metro lost over three lakh commuters a day after a steep fare hike came into effect on October 10, an RTI query has revealed.

The metro's daily average ridership came down to 24.2 lakh in October from 27.4 lakh in September, translating to a fall of around 11 per cent.

The Blue Line, considered the metro's busiest, lost over 30 lakh commuters, according to data shared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in response to an RTI query by a PTI correspondent.

The 50-km corridor connects Dwarka to Noida. The metro currently has a 218-km network across Delhi-NCR.

The fall, in terms of absolute numbers, was over 19 lakh on the Yellow Line, another busy corridor which connects Gurgaon to north Delhi's Samaypur Badli, DMRC said.

Ridership on the Violet Line, which connects ITO to Faridabad, plunged by 11.9 lakh in October. The number of riders on the Red Line, from Dilshad Garden to Rithala, came down by 7.5 lakh.

Ridership has come down several notches below the numbers observed in recent years, bucking a trend of rising on the back of the launch of newer sections.

In fact, in October 2016, the metro's daily average ridership was also 27.2 lakh, despite a comparatively shorter operational route. On October 10, DMRC effected the fare hike, leading to a rise of around Rs 10 for nearly every distance slab. This came barely five months of another hike of up to 100 per cent.

After the first phase of the hike in May, the metro lost nearly 1.5 lakh passengers per day in June.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government has mounted a stiff opposition to the hike, leading to a confrontation with the Centre.

DMRC and Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri supported the move saying it was essential to maintain metro's financial as well as operational health.

He rejected Kejriwal's opposition, saying the Centre was in no position to disregard the recommendations of a Fare Fixation Committee which had drawn up the revised fare list.

The revised fare structure is: up to 2 km - Rs 10, 2 to 5 km - Rs 20, 5 to 12 km - Rs 30, 12 to 21 km - Rs 40, 21 to 32 km - Rs 50 and for journeys beyond 32 km - Rs 60.

Delhi Metro witnesses steep fall in commuters after fare hike

Britain will not decide where to build a new runway at Heathrow airport until at least October due to the political turmoil following Britons' vote to leave the European Union, transport minister Patrick McLoughlin said today.

London's Heathrow, Britain and Europe's busiest airport, has been campaigning for 25 years for an extra runway and a decision had been expected this summer, after it was pushed back by the government from last year.

But, after his side lost the vote on the country's EU membership, Prime Minister David Cameron said he would resign by October, and a Conservative leadership contest has begun.

"Being realistic, given recent events, I cannot now foresee an announcement (on airport capacity in southeast England) until at least October," McLoughlin told lawmakers.

Cameron's government has been considering for four years where to build the runway, with Heathrow seen as the front-runner over Gatwick, Britain's second busiest airport, after it was selected by the Davies independent commission in 2015.

However, his possible successor Theresa May opposes Heathrow expansion.

Another high-profile opponent of Heathrow expansion, former London mayor Boris Johnson, said on Thursday he would not be standing for the Conservative leadership.

Business leaders have repeatedly called on the government to build a new runway as Heathrow, Europe's busiest airport, is already full.

But past attempts to expand the airport, 15 miles west of London in a densely populated area, have been scuppered by local opposition over worries about increased noise and air pollution.

McLoughlin said a government analysis on air quality linked to expansion would be published soon, and said that despite the delays the runway could still be built by the 2030 deadline set by the Davies commission report.

The latest delay to Heathrow's 18 billion pound ($24 billion) expansion plan was criticised by business groups.

The British Chambers of Commerce said the government was missing an opportunity to stimulate business confidence, while the City of London Corporation said competing on a world stage meant being able to build new trade links.

A quarter of the country's exports move through Heathrow, Britain's biggest port, but it has no extra capacity to add routes to new markets including China.

"If Britain wants to be confident, outward-looking and at the centre of the world's economy then expanding Heathrow must be a key building block in the government's Brexit plan," Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye said in a statement.

Tesco chairman John Allan told BBC radio that a delay was "unhelpful" and lamented the fact that "reasons of internal party management" came ahead of what was in the nation's interest.
