NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a strong (G3) geomagnetic storm watch after a major coronal mass ejection from the sun was detected heading toward Earth. The storm, expected to hit on December 9, could disrupt radio communications, GPS, and power grid operations, while also intensifying auroras and making the northern lights visible much farther south than usual, potentially from New York through the Upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest.​
