The UK government has announced a ban on foreign governments owning British newspapers and news magazines. This announcement follows concerns over a proposed Daily Telegraph and Spectator takeover by a United Arab Emirates-backed investment firm, RedBird IMI.

As per a BBC report, the proposed ban, to be introduced as an amendment to the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill, would "deliver additional protections for a free press".&nbsp;

Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay announcing the ban said the new law would "rule out newspaper and periodical news magazine mergers involving ownership, influence or control by foreign states".

Labour has indicated support for the change, which comes amidst cross-party pressure on the government to address the issue.&nbsp;

The move comes as RedBird IMI continues its efforts to take control of the Daily and Sunday Telegraph newspaper titles and Spectator magazine. The fund, largely owned by Sheikh Mansour of the UAE, faced growing political opposition.

Reacting to the government's decision, a spokesperson for RedBird IMI said they were "extremely disappointed by today's development" and stated they "remain committed" to investing in global media.

Talking to Geo News, Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bukhari clarified that the restrictions were in response to a "serious threat alert, which is under investigation".&nbsp;

US President Joe Biden on Monday (Mar 11) outlined his policy vision for a potential second term, unveiling a $7.3 trillion election-year budget which as per reports is aimed at convincing Americans that he can manage the economy better than rival former president Donald Trump.

Biden's budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year includes tax increases on corporations and high earners by trillions. This is aimed at reducing the deficit and funding new programmes to assist lower-income individuals cope with housing and childcare costs.&nbsp;

"The best thing he could do is sue in England. He wants something straightforward so it will be straightforward. No axe to grind from anybody. So we’ll wait and see," said the 93-year-old Briton.

"It might help him if an English judge comes out and says something that’s in his favour, it would be good for him."

Ecclestone has plenty of experience with the British legal system, most recently last October when he paid 652.6 million pounds but was spared a jail term after pleading guilty to misleading Britain's tax authority about overseas assets.

In 2014 he won a High Court case brought against him by German media company Constantin Medien who had sought $100 million in damages following the sale of a stake in the sport eight years earlier.

Massa's claim has made much of an Ecclestone quote to the German website F1 Insider stating that the Brazilian should have been world champion in 2008 and was "deprived of the title he deserved" by a Singapore Grand Prix scandal.

Ecclestone repeated last year's assertion that he had no recollection of saying that and said he had tried, in vain, to find a recording.

Massa was leading that race from pole position when compatriot Nelson Piquet Jr crashed his Renault into the wall on lap 14 of 61, triggering the safety car.

Piquet's team mate Fernando Alonso went on to win, while Massa failed to score after a bungled pitstop.

Following the audience, he used a wheelchair to greet people. While attempting to return to the Popemobile, he appeared to struggle and was assisted back into the wheelchair to leave St Peter's Square.

In a coordinated operation on Wednesday night (Mar 6), the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police apprehended three terrorists near Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail where Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan is serving a 14-year sentence.

The arrested individuals, who reportedly hail from Afghanistan, were allegedly going to carry out terrorist attack in the area.

The police, as per an Associated Press of Pakistan report, recovered explosives and a map of the high-security jail from the terrorists.

Confirming the successful operation, City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani informed the press that CTD in collaboration with the police carried out the joint operation.

He also revealed that, along with the arrest of three terrorists, officers recovered sophisticated weapons, including explosives and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), along with the prison map.

As per Hamdani, police and law enforcement agencies are conducting further search operations in the vicinity of Adiala Jail.

The apprehended terrorists have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

<h2>Imran Khan in jail</h2>

The former Pakistan prime minister has been lodged in the high-security Adiala Jail due to several cases.

In January, he and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in jail on charges of illegally selling state gifts from 'Toshakhana,' the gift storage house.

The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court on Monday, accuses Musk of using "his wealth and power to run roughshod over anyone who disagrees with him".

Former CEO Parag Agrawal, who is seeking $57.4 million in benefits, former CFO Ned Segal, who is asking for $44.5 million along with former chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde and the company's then General Counsel Sean Edgett, are behind this lawsuit.

Musk fired Agrawal, Gadde, and Segal from their positions in late October 2022 after his contentious $44 billion takeover of Twitter. The lawsuit, citing a recent biography, claims that Musk ensured the executives could not resign from the company before he fired them in the immediate aftermath of the takeover.

The executives claim that they were denied severance pay and that they are owed one year's salary and hundreds of thousands of stock options.

"Because Musk decided he didn't want to pay plaintiffs' severance benefits, he simply fired them without reason, then made up (a) fake cause and appointed employees of his various companies to uphold his decision."

"This is the Musk playbook: to keep the money he owes other people, and force them to sue him," they state in the 39-page lawsuit.&nbsp;

They also allege that their efforts to "appropriately and vigorously" represent the interests of Twitter's public shareholders during Musk's attempt to back out of the deal led to Musk vowing revenge against them.&nbsp;

"For their efforts, Musk vowed a lifetime of revenge," says the lawsuit.

<h2>X's troubles</h2>

In a separate case, Agrawal, Gadde, and Segal are suing Musk to be reimbursed for the costs of litigation, investigations, and congressional inquiries related to their former roles at Twitter.

In addition, X faces two proposed class actions demanding severance payments of at least $500 million for laid-off workers after Musk's acquisition, and a third lawsuit from six former senior managers making similar claims. X has denied wrongdoing.

''This is the 23rd water sports championship and Jammu and Kashmir Police is organising it for the fourth time. In this championship, there are 20 teams of male athletes and 10 teams of females. They are from different police, paramilitary and BSF. More than 500 players are participating, they will be competing in canoeing and rowing events. This is a big boost for water sports in Jammu and Kashmir. We are using the equipment that is being used in the Olympics. We will be able to unmask the new talent which will represent the country at National and international events,'' said Bilquis Mir, championship director.&nbsp;

Along with the athletes, 60 technical officials, team managers are attending the tournament. They say that Kashmir is an extremely amazing venue for holding the championship. Dal Lake, surrounded by mountains covered with snow has surprised all the athletes participating in the event.&nbsp;

''It's a great event and we are happy that J&amp;K Police has organised this having organised it three times before as well. I participated in all those and we are very happy. Holding National Level championships in the valley is also providing a platform for the local youth to showcase their talent. Competing with the national level athletes and being in and around them is boosting their morale.&nbsp;

''This is a national level competition and top players from India are here. Over 500 players and 20 teams are here. We are competing with them and it helps to boost our morale. Our youth is motivated too. All the equipment is international level and it's like a revolution in watersports. It's a great platform which has been provided by the J&amp;K Police. Notably, there have been repeated instances of opposition fans mocking a team for the tragedies. The fans of Liverpool Football Club (LFC) are routinely subjected to tragedy chants related to the Hillsborough disaster in which 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives.&nbsp;

Similarly, poverty chants remain a blot on English football where fans, often in unison, mock the poverty of the city the football club belongs to.&nbsp;

The Geophysical Institute has advised tourists to stay away if any lava enters the sea.

"Gas emission and thermal anomalies were detected through satellite systems," said the ministry in a statement. It added that while they would continue to monitor the volcano, the eruption is not expected to affect tourism on the islands.

It said that La Cumbre blew a gas cloud about three kilometres into the air, which was dispersed by the wind without passing over other islands with human settlements, such as the neighbouring Isabela.

La Cumbre has previously erupted three times — in 2017, 2018 and 2020. It stands 1,463 metres (4,799.87 feet) high and has the highest eruption rate among all the volcanoes in the archipelago.&nbsp;

This eruption was likely bigger than those previously registered, authorities said.

The number of people suffering from obesity has more than quadrupled since 1990, according to a new study released by the Lancet medical journal. As per its findings, more than one billion people across the world have obesity.

<h2>An "epidemic"</h2>

The study, done in collaboration with the World Health Organization, estimates that compared to 226 million in 1990, there were 1,038 million obese adults, adolescents, and children in 2022.

As per the study released ahead of World Obesity Day (Mar&nbsp;4), the "epidemic" is particularly hitting poorer countries. It also found that, compared to adults, the rate of obesity is growing faster among children and adolescents.

Even though doctors knew obesity numbers were on a fast rise, a rise past one billion&nbsp;wasn't expected until 2030.

As quoted by AFP, it has come "much earlier than we have anticipated," said Francesco Branca, director of nutrition for health at the WHO.

<h2>Obesity rate</h2>

To reach their estimates, as per the Lancet, experts analysed the weight and height measurements of more than 220 million people in more than 190 countries. They found that an estimated 504 million adult women, 374 million men, and 159 million children were obese in 2022.&nbsp;

Compared to 1990, this is a more than triple increase among men, and double for women, while for children this was a five times increase (up from 31 million).

Experts blame bad eating habits for it, and say "very rapid transformation of the food systems is not for the better".

As per the Guardian, this is a major legal victory for Meta-owned WhatsApp which launched the lawsuit against NSO in 2019. The Pegasus code, along with the&nbsp;code of other surveillance products, is considered a closely guarded state secret by NSO.&nbsp;

The company is subject to strict regulation by the Israeli ministry of defence, which must approve all sales of its licences to foreign governments.

Despite NSO's plea to be excused from its discovery obligations due to "various US and Israeli restrictions," Judge Phyllis Hamilton ruled in favour of WhatsApp. She ordered NSO to produce "all relevant spyware" from the period one year before and after the alleged attacks on WhatsApp users, from 29 April 2018 to 10 May 2020.&nbsp;

Additionally, NSO is also required to provide WhatsApp with information "concerning the full functionality of the relevant spyware."

However, Judge Hamilton ruled in NSO's favour on one issue: the company will not have to disclose its clients' names or information about its server architecture.
