Nianan, a 40-year-old Chinese woman quit her job and became a "full-time daughter," for the pay of "$570/month or (Rs 47,000 or 4,000 yuan).

After working at a news agency for 15 years, in 2022, Nianan decided to walk off, as she was experiencing a reshaping of her role which exposed her to greater challenges, stress levels and the constant pressure to be available 24 hours a day.

Seeing her struggling, her&nbsp;parents stepped in. They told her, "Why don't you just quit your job?" They further offered her "4,000 yuan/month" ($570) out of their 10,000 yuan pension. She&nbsp;then decided to leave the job and take the "full-time daughter" responsibility or offer her parents offered.&nbsp;

'A profession filled with love'

Nianan had described&nbsp;her role as a "profession filled with love." She&nbsp;embraced her varied daily routine.

Giving details on her routine, she said she spends one hour dancing with her parents and accompanies them for&nbsp;grocery shopping. In the evenings, she cooks dinner with her father.&nbsp;

She also takes responsibility for all electronic matters, drives them, and organises one or two family trips every month.&nbsp;

However, Ninan said that, though being with her parents is relaxing, the desire to earn more money remains a constant pressure in her life.&nbsp;

Nianan's parents have continuously reassured her by saying that if she finds a more suitable job, she can go for it. But if she doesn't want to work, then she can just stay at home and spend time with them.

"The competitive grind of 996"

The full-time daughter job in China is an alternative for youngsters in the country facing the increasing pressure of the job market and the grind of "996"—working 9 am to 6 pm, six days a week.

Similarly, another alternative that has gained popularity in the Asian country is becoming a digital nomad among people embracing the "FIVE" lifestyle of being financially independent and voluntarily employed. Such options allow individuals to break free from traditional work constraints and attain much greater autonomy in their careers. However, these options are not for everyone.&nbsp;

As&nbsp;Nianan's news gained popularity, it sparked conversations on social media.&nbsp;

A user said, "Clearly, it is simply relying on one’s parents, known as&nbsp;ken lao&nbsp;in Chinese, which translates into 'eat the old', yet they insist on labelling it as being a 'full-time daughter'."&nbsp;

While another user said, "If both the parents and their children are genuinely happy, why not embrace it? In the future, the young labour force will hold a higher value. If some people consider it&nbsp;ken lao, or relying on parents, then why not exchange children&nbsp;to take care of the elderly in each others’ families?"

The debate between value of human labour versus cost of mechanisation has been going on for long now. Modernity versus traditional things is another disputed territory. A battle on similar lines is being fought by artists in the capital city of Iraq, where they are fighting to preserve ancient nautical tradition of using wooden boats. Ananya Dutta gets you the story.

WhatsApp, the most popular instant messaging service app, has established itself as a dominant player across the world. Its continuous efforts to enhance its features and take the game a level up have always overshadowed its competitors like Telegram and Line. The app will soon introduce the "screen-sharing," option for its users to modify their messages, Gulf News reported.&nbsp;

'Screen-sharing'

With a user base of over two million active users, the Meta-owned WhatsApp is all set to roll out the "screen-sharing" app along with a new placement among existing tabs with a bottom navigation bar, to the best testers on Android.&nbsp;

This feature will allow users to easily share their screens during a call, just like we do in Microsoft Teams.&nbsp;

However, this feature will not be available for old versions of Android, and might also not work in large group calls.&nbsp;

After installing the new version, many users might notice a few minor changes regarding the navigation bar, like that many icons, might be arranged in a certain order, like the following tabs in the bottom navigation bar: Chats, Calls, and Status.&nbsp;

The report further stated that this feature is only enabled if a user gives his/her consent to share the content on their screen.

'WhatsApp Usernames'

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly working on its "screen-sharing" and "edit message" features. It is also anticipated to be working on a new feature called "WhatsApp usernames." With this feature, users will be able to choose unique and memorable names for their accounts.&nbsp;

The company might also allow users to contact others by entering a username within the app without knowing their mobile numbers, just like Telegram.&nbsp;

These features come as the instant message-sharing app previously announced that it will allow its users to edit their messages within 15 minutes after sending. In a blog post shared earlier this month, it said that users can correct misspellings, add more details, or change what they have sent to friends, family, and coworkers. This feature will soon be available to users across the world.&nbsp;

WhatsApp said, "To fix a text, press and hold the sent message and pick "edit." After the changes, it will then display "edited," but those receiving the message won't be able to see the edit history.

The countdown for ISRO's (Indian Space reserach Organisation) GSLV F12/NVS-01 launch mission commenced at 7:12 am Sunday, ahead of the lift-off that is scheduled for 10:42 am Monday, WION has learnt. The countdown is the final phase prior to launch where the launch vehicle's liquid and cryogenic fuels are filled and the final health checks of crucial systems are carried out.

The GSLV rocket that stands tall at the second launchpad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, is meant to place a 2,332 kg navigation satellite NVS-01 into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The GTO is a temporary parking orbit, into which the satellite will be hurled by the rocket. There on, the satellite will independently use its onboard propulsion systems to perform orbit-raising maneuvres and reach its intended orbit.&nbsp;

This will be the Indian space agency ISRO's fourth launch mission of the calendar year 2023. Thus far in 2023, ISRO has launched its smallest rocket SSLV, the most-flown workhorse rocket PSLV and the heaviest rocket LVM3. Monday's launch will add the GSLV to the list — marking the launch of all four operational vehicles of ISRO in a short span of four months.&nbsp;

NVS-01 is the first in the series of second-generation navigation satellites built by ISRO's UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru. At present, India uses its Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) series of satellites for civilian and defence navigation, positioning, and timing services in the Indian mainland and even 1500 km beyond India's borders.&nbsp;

"NVS series of satellites will sustain and augment the NavIC with enhanced features. This series incorporates L1 band signals additionally to widen the services. For the first time, an indigenous atomic clock will be flown in NVS-01," ISRO said.&nbsp;

Atomic clocks are highly precise timekeeping instruments that are placed within satellites. They offer measurements of time that are precise down to a billionth of a second (nanosecond). Such precision is crucial because they help in offering accurate positioning services.

While using satellite-based positioning and navigation services, our position (of the GPS receiver) is determined concerning its distance from multiple satellites. When such a calculation happens, the distance value is obtained by multiplying the time (taken for signal to travel) and the speed of the signal (almost similar to the speed of light). In such cases, (when large values are being multiplied) even a variation of a billionth of a second can lead to an inaccurate distance value (by a few metrrs or tens of metres). Hence it is necessary to have atomic clocks that can work for several years without even nanosecond-level errors in timekeeping.&nbsp;

Earlier, the NavIC series of satellites were known as IRNSS (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System). It provides two types of services&nbsp;— Standard Positioning Service (SPS) which is provided to all the users and Restricted Service (RS), which is an encrypted service provided only to the authorised users. According to ISRO, some of the applications of the IRNSS/NavIC system are terrestrial, aerial and marine navigation, disaster management, vehicle tracking and fleet management and precise timing. According to ISRO, NavIC SPS signals are interoperable with other global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals such as - GPS, Glonass, Galileo, and BeiDou.

ISRO's current series of eight NavIC satellites were placed in orbit in a phased manner between the years 2013 and 2018 using PSLV rockets. All satellites in the first-generation NavIC series weighed 1,425 kg and carried foreign-origin atomic clocks. All IRNSS/NavIC series satellites carried two types of payloads – navigation payload and ranging payload.&nbsp;

The navigation payload transmits signals for the determination of position, velocity and time. Rubidium atomic clocks are part of the navigation payload of the satellite. The ranging payload of these satellites consists of a C-band transponder which facilitates accurate determination of the range of the satellite.&nbsp;

Days after it was revealed that disgraced paedophile Jeffrey Epstein blackmailed Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates for his alleged affair with a Russian bridge player, a Daily Mail report has claimed that the woman was connected to a Kremlin spy. Mila Antonova, the woman with whom Gates had the alleged affair, was captured in a photograph, strolling near Wall Street with spy Anna Chapman who was arrested in New York City in 2010. The publication noted that the photo was likely clicked in 2009 or early 2010, the same period when Gates' alleged romance with the Russian player commenced. The tech billionaire refused to comment if he knew about any potential link between Antonova and Chapman, the daughter of a former KGB officer. The report raises fresh concerns over the nature of Epstein's relationship with Gates and whether the latter caved into the paedophile's pressure tactics and imparted crucial information to him which inadvertently could have ended up in Russian hands. Watch | Jeffrey Epstein threatened Bill Gates over alleged affairs Epstein blackmailing Gates Earlier this week, a Wall Street Journal report claimed that Gates met Antonova around 2009 when she was in her 20s and they engaged in a romantic relationship. The two were involved while Gates was still married to his then-wife, Melinda French Gates. In a YouTube video from the same year, Antonova recounted playing in a tournament with Gates. “I didn’t beat him [Gates] but I tried to kick him with my leg," said Antonova. ALSO READ | Did Jeffrey Epstein blackmail Bill Gates for affair with Russian woman? Shocking details revealed Epstein met Antonova three years later in 2013 and paid for her to attend software coding school. She was looking for financial backers for a bridge academy and Boris Nikolic, a top adviser to Gates at the time, pointed her to Epstein. Later, in 2017, Epstein, who had learned about the affair, brazenly emailed Gates and requested reimbursement for the course. It was an implicit yet subtle threat from Epstein that he knew about Gates' business. “The tone of the message was that Epstein knew about the affair and could expose it, the people said,” the Journal reported, adding that a Gates spokesperson said that the Microsoft founder “had no financial dealings with Epstein.” Antonova told the Journal that she did meet Epstein but did not know who he was at the time, thinking he was just a “successful businessman" who "wanted to help”. “Epstein agreed to pay, and he paid directly to the school,” she added. “Nothing was exchanged. I don’t know why he did that." (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

<h2>How it all started</h2>

The origins of the online scam can be traced back to a WhatsApp message that circulated in Bihar, claiming that purchasing animals online could yield profits of up to thousands of rupees within a few months. The message propagated the idea that an online game called ‘Smile Rancher’ helped a middle-aged man win big by "investing" in the online purchase of livestock. As per the claims, the man won INR 20 lakh or $2 million.

<h2>The scheme</h2>

The report quotes an 18-year-old victim of the scheme,&nbsp;Suraj Kumar who revealed that people had to create an account by entering a six-digit password. Once that was done, they would find pictures of dozens of animals which they could buy.

After paying for the purchase, all they had to do was log in everyday and click on the animal. This would result in them getting paid a certain amount in the app's wallet.

"The most expensive was the peacock, which cost Rs 50,000. It would earn Rs 3,000 a day. Duck was the cheapest one which cost Rs 5,000 rupees, the app claimed to offer Rs 400 for it every day," said Kumar.

"One had to log in every day and click on the animal or bird that was bought. The earnings on the animals would come in the wallet of the account which was created in the app," he added.

<h2>Could this money be withdrawn?</h2>

Yes, but most times people would receive a server error.

The maximum limit for withdrawal from the application wallet was Rs&nbsp;3000,&nbsp;however, people who purchased and bred these virtual animals said they would very often get error messages on attempting to withdraw money.

However, some people successfully withdrew small amounts of money. This only helped give people false hope.&nbsp;

As the word spread, more individuals became interested in investing and many people borrowed money or sold assets to enter the market.&nbsp;

But one day the app just stopped working.

<h2>Who owns ‘Smile Rancher’ and why haven’t app stores like Google Play Store or Apple App Store taken any action?</h2>

As per transaction details accessed by Decode, the money people would spend on these virtual animals would go to the account of Sewing SKY India Pvt Limited — an unlisted company which according to the Indian Ministry of Corporate Affairs website deals in fabrics and is registered in Telangana Hyderabad and belongs to Gangadhar Pathri and Ajay Kumar Pathri.

Application stores like Google Play Store or the Apple AppStore have been unable to take any action because the application is not available on these platforms. People downloaded the application via a specific link shared on WhatsApp.

The app is now defunct.

<h2>Who sent them the message?</h2>

As per the villagers, a man called Bhishma Pratap&nbsp;spread these rumours. They say that Pratap claimed that his uncle was the one who won Rs 20,00,000 ($24,190).

For those interested in earning extra money, Pratap created a WhatsApp group named "Ranchers no. 1".&nbsp;As the admin of the group, he started adding more and more villagers, he then sent the forwarded application&nbsp;link to the group, which had more than 60 members. Pratap left the group the same day the application stopped working.

<h2>How did so many people fall for the scam?</h2>

The application called itself a "breeding management investment company from the United States."&nbsp;

It noted that was involved in "offline investment promotion for major breeding pastures and looking for investors who work part-time in the breeding industry".

It further claimed that after 2020, i.e., the pandemic, the company&nbsp;started doing its business online and started seeking people from all over the world to join the breeding industry and "make money together".

For residents of the small Bihar village of Maulanagar, this seemed like a good idea to earn some extra money. Most of the village residents belong to a socially marginalised community called the Musahars.

<h2>Has anyone filed a complaint?</h2>

Kasim Khan, a self-proclaimed victim of the scam, reportedly took action against the fraudulent company by filing a complaint with the Consumer Complaints Court on July 22nd 2022. In his complaint, Khan stated that he had invested Rs 55,000 in&nbsp;the scheme and attempted to withdraw the amount after two days, but was unsuccessful despite multiple attempts. He alleges that the company, Breeding Management, had now ceased operations and had deceived thousands of individuals through their online scam.&nbsp;

<h2>Was it just the one Bihar village that got duped?</h2>

Unfortunately no, the app has reportedly spread far from Bihar and has reached Assam.&nbsp;

The people of the small Bihar village got duped in February 2022, and in early July last year, a gym trainer in Guwahati Assam also received the link to that game. He and his colleagues invested in the app and lost thousands of rupees.
