In some cases, polio can result in irreversible paralysis, but it is preventable thanks to a 1955 vaccine. Despite the fact that there is no known treatment, the vaccination offers nearly 100% immunity after three shots.

Although all ages are at risk, children three and younger are the most commonly affected by the virus.

Officials recommended lifetime booster shots for those who had already received the vaccine, as well as for adults who had not received the shot and children as young as two months old.

In order to increase immunisation rates, Hochul's statement grants permission for paramedics, midwives, and pharmacists to deliver polio shots. Additionally, the decree instructs healthcare professionals to supply the state with updated immunisation data.

The emergency situation will last until October 9. The vaccination rate for inhabitants was set at 90% by health officials.

“We do believe that we are in a good place right now, especially if New Yorkers take advantage of this booster. That is how we get back to not just a new normal, but a normal normal, and that is what we are striving for,” Hochul said during a news conference.

However, mask mandates are still in force in nursing homes, hospitals and other health-care facilities licensed by the state, the governor added.

President Joe Biden had first ended the nationwide mask mandate on public transport in April after a Florida judge ruled that the directive was unlawful. However, New York decided to continue with the mandate.

Since then, the people in New York started ditching the rule despite widespread compliance early in the pandemic.

Last week, the CDC&nbsp;approved the new boosters to fight against Omicron. While Pfizer’s shots are available for people ages 12 and older, Moderna’s vaccines are for adults ages 18 and older.

Around 78 per cent of New York state's population are fully vaccinated.

His lawyer, Frederick Sosinsky, has also confirmed his death and called for an investigation into the circumstances around his death and whether jail officials had placed him in protective custody and under suicide watch, as per a court order from the time he was convicted.

“Neither of these conditions were, to our knowledge, ever complied with. Had they been, we would not be having this terrible discussion," Sosinsky was quoted as saying by Associated Press.

Cruciani used to reportedly groom vulnerable patients by overprescribing painkillers, as per the prosecutors. Six women had testified that Cruciani used to expose himself and demand sexual favors from them during appointments in 2013 at a Manhattan medical center.&nbsp;

Cruciani was a pain specialist who was known to relieve any kind of pain.&nbsp;

While Rushdie received first aid on stage, his current condition remains unknown. The police report further stated that&nbsp;that he was taken to the hospital with the help of a medical helicopter.

Rushdie won the prestigious Man Booker Prize in 1981 for his second novel — Midnight's Children — and the book also went on to win "Booker of Bookers" award on two different occasions.

In the later years, Iran decided to not endorse Khomeini’s fatwa, but the bounty kept increasing over time. According to reports, an Iranian religious foundation made it $3.3 million in 2012.

While the threats continued, Rushdie said that he was not afraid and, in his memoir, “Joseph Anton”, he wrote that he believes no one is interested in the bounty placed on his name.

The statue was found after an expert compared its pictures with the ones taken for the auction at the auction house. They found that it belonged to Chola empire who ruled during the 13th century.

After searching for more than two years, the authorities in Tamil Nadu were finally able to track it down and the case is currently being handled by Idol Wing of the Tamil Nadu police.

A 30-year-old Indian Sikh woman killed herself at her house in Richmond, New York, following “years of domestic abuse” and exploitation by her husband and in-laws.

Hours before taking her life, Mandeep Kaur recorded a video of herself where she was heard detailing her ordeal. In the nearly five-minute-long clip, she said that her husband, Ranjodhbeer Singh Sandhu—who works as a truck driver—used to beat her up daily.

Mandeep and her husband are from northern state Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor region. She also claimed that her husband had many extramarital affairs over the years.

“After seeing the torture inflicted on me, my father got him (Sandhu) booked in a case. Then he pleaded… and got off,” Mandeep said, adding that her husband once held her hostage for five days and beat her up.

&nbsp;She further said that she didn’t want to leave her two daughters behind “but now I cannot tolerate this torture anymore and am taking this extreme step”.

"Daddy, I am going to die, please forgive me," she said. Mandeep Kaur died on August 4.

Mandeep’s father, Jaspal Singh, has filed a case against his daughter's in-laws, who live in India and Sandhu, who is in US, at Bijnor police station. He is currently seeking custody of his two granddaughters.

The Indian mission in New York has said that it is in touch with the authorities and assured to help the grieving family.

These three major US states—California, Illinois and New York—account for 47 per cent of all confirmed monkeypox infections in the country. New York has emerged as the epicentre of the outbreak with nearly 1,400 confirmed cases as of Monday, reports CNBC.

"California is working urgently across all levels of government to slow the spread of monkeypox, leveraging our robust testing, contact tracing and community partnerships strengthened during the pandemic to ensure that those most at risk are our focus for vaccines, treatment and outreach," Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement on Monday.

"We'll continue to work with the federal government to secure more vaccines, raise awareness about reducing risk, and stand with the LGBTQ community fighting stigmatisation," he added.

Newsom said the state officials are working across all levels of government to tame the spread of the disease through testing, contract tracing and community outreach.

Last month, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared monkeypox a global health emergency after 19,000 monkeypox cases were reported in at least 78 countries.

The outbreak is unusual because the virus is spreading widely in North America and Europe. In the past, monkeypox spread at low levels in West and Central Africa where rodents and other animals carry the virus.

According to the CDC, monkeypox is primarily transmitting through skin-to-skin contact during sex. About 98 per cent of patients who provided demographic information to clinics were identified as men who have sex with men.

Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead of the Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries, a Rolls-Royce-driving preacher renowned for his flamboyant personality and friendship with Mayor Eric Adam, was delivering a sermon when three robbers allegedly entered the building. The ceremony was also being live-streamed and just a few moments before the robbers walked in, Miller-Whitehead in the online video was heard asking, “How many of you have lost your faith because you saw somebody else die?” The Guardian reported.

In the video uploaded on Instagram, Miller-Whitehead said that the assailants held a gun to the face of his young daughter while robbing his wife’s jewellery and ripping off his chain. As per the investigators, no one in the family got suffered any harm.&nbsp;
