Neuralink, as of now, has not disclosed why this happened. However, in the blog post, it reported that its engineers had refined the implant and restored functionality.

"In response to this change, we modified the recording algorithm to be more sensitive to neural population signals, improved the techniques to translate these signals into cursor movements, and enhanced the user interface. These refinements produced a rapid and sustained improvement in BPS, that has now superseded Noland's initial performance," it said.

<h2>How did the reduced capacity affect the patient?</h2>

Despite the setback, the device continued to operate at a diminished capacity, allowing Arbaugh to control a computer and play chess using his thoughts alone. It did not appear to endanger Noland Arbaugh.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the complications, noted that the company considered removing the implant after discovering the detachment.

His friend called him up while under the influence to tell him that Neuralink was looking for its first human trial patient. He helped Arbaugh fill out the application, but apparently misspelled his name in the process.

It's an unsurprising anecdote from the Arizona-based young man, who as per Neuralink engineer Bliss Chapman, said his favourite game was Beerio Cart, a clearly alcohol-tinged variant on the party game Mario Kart that Arbaugh was seen playing with his mind in an impressive demo posted last week.

Despite his somewhat energetic behaviour, Arbaugh appears to be a willing and promising test subject for Musk's brain implant project, as Neuralink staff boasted in a videotaped presentation last week.

Another video that Arbaugh posted on his own X account during the nearly hour-long address to Neuralink employees shows the young man breaking a timing record when learning to control a cursor with his BCI.

Chapman claims that this was only on the seventh hour of the man's first day of using his brain chip.

Arbaugh told that the process of becoming Neuralink's first-ever human patient wasn't as intense as one might expect.

"I definitely took time to step back and evaluate all of the downsides that I could be bringing to my family," Arbaugh stated. "Not just the health downsides — things that could have happened during surgery or afterwards — but everything that comes with this, like any notoriety."

Billionaire Elon Musk on Monday (Jan 29) announced that his Neuralink startup has for the first time successfully installed a brain implant in a human patient, with "promising" initial results.

The neurotechnology company, which was co-founded by Musk in 2016, is aimed at creating direct communication channels between the computers and brain.

The ambitious project is aimed at supercharging human capabilities as well as treating neurological disorders like ALS or Parkinson's, and one day is likely to achieve the establishment of a symbiotic relationship between artificial intelligence and humans.

The tycoon, who has faced major deploys, has reached out, as per reports, to join forces with implant developer Synchron regarding a potential investment.&nbsp;

Notably, at least 12 monkeys were euthanised due to issues with the company's implant, according to the letter sent to the SEC.&nbsp;

Despite concerns raised by the animal testing results, Musk reportedly downplayed the issues. In a social media post on September 10, Musk stated, "no monkey has died as a result of a Neuralink implant," emphasising the use of "terminal" monkeys to minimise risks to healthy ones. Lawmakers argue that evidence suggests a direct link between animal deaths and the safety and marketability of Neuralink's brain-computer interface, potentially violating SEC rules by denying this connection.&nbsp;

Neuralink has yet to respond to requests for comment on the lawmakers' letter to the SEC. Last year, Reuters reported on allegations from Neuralink employees about rushed and flawed surgeries on animals, contributing to unnecessary deaths. &nbsp;
