The agencies empowered by the government in accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, include the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Narcotics Control Bureau (NIB), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Cabinet Secretariat (RAW) and the Commissioner of Police, Delhi.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 69 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (21 of 2000) read with rule 4 of the Information Technology ( Procedure and Safeguards for Interception, Monitoring and Decryption of Information) Rules, 2009, the Competent Authority hereby authorises Security and Intelligence Agencies for the purposes of interception, monitoring and decryption of any information generated, transmitted, received or stored in any computer resource under the said Act," read the notice issued by Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

Furthermore, the Directorate of Signal Intelligence has been given authority for service areas of Jammu and Kashmir, North-East and Assam.

The direction from the Ministry of Home Affairs comes as a follow up to a 2009 notification, wherein the then UPA government had stated that no person shall carry out the interception, monitoring, or decryption of any information generated, transmitted, received or stored in any computer resource under sub-section (2) of section 69 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, except by an order issued by the competent authority.

"Such order may be issued by an officer, not below the rank of the Joint Secretary to the Government of India, who has been duly authorised by the competent authority," the 2009 notice read.

As per this earlier notification, in case of remote areas where obtaining prior directions for interception is not feasible, the guidelines provided for monitoring of information generated, transmitted or received in any computer resource to be done with prior approval of the head or second senior-most officer of the security and law enforcement agency at the central level and the officer authorised on this behalf, not below the rank of the Inspector General of Police or an officer of equivalent rank at the state or union territory level.

However, the authority supervising surveillance in such cases was required to inform in writing to the competent authority about the emergency deception of data within three working days and obtain approval within seven working days.

"If the approval of the competent authority is not obtained within the said period of seven working days, such interception or monitoring shall cease and information shall not be intercepted thereafter without prior approval," the document had stated.&nbsp;

India is waiting for Malaysia's response on the extradition of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) president and preacher Zakir Naik, as informed in Ministry of External Affairs'&nbsppress conference on Thursday.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "India and Malaysia have an extradition treaty and we have made an extradition request to Malaysia, we are waiting for their response in this matter."

He further said that the legal process for the same is near completion.

"Once it is complete, we will make an official request to Malaysian government very soon to send back Zakir Naik to India" Kumar said.

Earlier in March, the Indian government sought Naik's extradition from Malaysia accusing him of inciting youth to take up jihad.

There were reports that Naik had been given permanent residency in Malaysia.

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Hyderabad on Monday acquitted all five accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid explosion.

The Mecca Masjid explosion took place on May 18, 2007 inside a mosque located in old Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state.

A family of three and another person from Kasaragod district of Kerala, suspected to have joined terror outfit Islamic State, have been reportedly killed, according to information reaching one of the relatives of the deceased.&nbsp;

The deceased were among the 21 persons from Kasaragod district who went missing and later reportedly joined the ISIS in 2016. One of the relatives of the deceased has received a message that they have been killed, Kasaragod district panchayat member V P P Mustafa said.

But there were no details about how it happened, source of the information or from where it came, he told PTI.

When contacted, police also confirmed that such a message had been received three days ago. As per the information, the deceased were a Shiha man, his wife Ajmala and their child, all hailing from Padana, and Muhammed Mansad from Thrikaripur in Kasaragod district.

The NIA questioned six people including four sons and two relatives of Salahuddin.

The NIA had registered case in this regard in April 2011 in connection with the transfer of money from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir through hawala channels via Delhi.

The NIA believed money was used in funding terrorism and secessionist activities.

On December 22 last year, a Special NIA court extended the judicial custody of Salahuddin&#39;s son Syed Shahid Yousuf till January 19 in connection with a terror-funding case. He is still in jail.

Yosuf was arrested by the NIA in October after he was found receiving and collecting funds through international wire money transfer from Saudi Arabia-based Hizbul Mujahideen member Aijaz Ahmed Bhat.

He was also suspended by the Jammu and Kashmir Government from his agriculture department job in the state.

The NIA has already filed two charge sheets against six other accused in this case in 2011.

Out of these accused, two are in custody and others, including Salahuddin, are absconding and residing in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).&nbsp;

The search was carried out in connection with investigation of NIA case RC 07/2018/NIA/DLI (Arrest of Danish Gulam Lone and Sohail Ahmed Bhat by Kupwara Police) in which it was found that fresh recruits of Al-Badr, a proscribed terrorist organization, were being sent across for arms training in furtherance of a conspiracy hatched from inside the Central Jail Srinagar.

The searches started early morning and continued until late afternoon. All the barracks and the open ground were thoroughly searched with the help of well-trained teams and deep search metal detectors. A close watch on the entire operation was kept with the help of drones.

During the search, 25 mobile phones, some SIM cards, 05 SD cards, 05 pen drives, 01 iPod and a large number of incriminating documents/articles including a poster of Hizbul Mujahideen and a Pakistani flag beside jihadi literature were seized.

NIA teams conduct searches at Srinagar Central Jail

In a relief to Kerala-based Hadiya, an alleged victim of love jihad, the Supreme Court today set aside the high court order annulling her marriage to a Muslim man.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, however, said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) may continue its investigation in the matter.

In a relief to Kerala-based Hadiya, an alleged victim of love jihad, the Supreme Court today set aside the high court order annulling her marriage to a Muslim man. So far, police have arrested 81 persons in the blasts case, while thirteen are absconding.

Qureshi, who holds a diploma in electronic engineering, is technology savvy, and played important role in making the explosive devices used in the blasts by getting information from the internet, Bhatt said.

He could be involved in other blasts in the country too, the official added.

&quot;We have learnt that after the blasts in Ahmedabad, he fled to Nepal where he lived for six years and taught English. He also went to Saudi Arabia. We will try to find out what he did in Saudi Arabia and who helped him in Nepal,&quot; Bhatt said.

&quot;We are coordinating with the Delhi Police&#39;s Special Cell. They are forming an interrogation squad so that we know more about his Nepal stay,&quot; he said.

Qureshi was arrested from Ghazipur in east Delhi in January this year.

Delhi police alleged that Qureshi was indoctrinating unemployed youth to fill the void left by the fall of top IM operatives, and planned to revive IM&#39;s terror network in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

2008 serial blasts accused brought to Ahmedabad from Delhi

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated the process for securing an Interpol Red Corner notice against Pakistani diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui, who was chargesheeted last week for allegedly conspiring to launch terror strikes on the US and Israeli consulates in South India.

Officials in the agency said the paperwork was being completed and would be sent soon to the Interpol headquarters based in Lyon in France for issuance of the Red Corner notice against Siddiqui, who during his stint at Pakistani High Commission in Sri Lanka during 2014 had conspired to carry out terror strikes in India.

He was named by a Sri Lankan resident Sakir Hussain, who is at present undergoing a simple imprisonment after pleading guilty in a court of law. He was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police after the Intelligence Bureau busted the conspiracy in April 2014. His jail term will end next year.

Hussain had carried out reconnaissance of the US consulate in Chennai and Israeli consulate in Bangalore to facilitate a terror strike similar to 26/11. For this, two terrorists were to be flown in from Maldives.

Siddiqui was working as visa counsellor at the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo but had to be repatriated to Islamabad after India mounted pressure on Sri Lanka about his alleged activities targeting this country.

He was nailed after the NIA was handed over evidence by the US authorities. The documents handed over by the US to India established communication between Hussain and &#39;Shahjee&#39;, a Pakistani national introduced to the accused allegedly by a Pakistani diplomat working with its mission in Sri Lanka.

The NIA, which has carried out the probe into the conspiracy meticulously, had sent a request under Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty to the US for details from service provider whose email was being used by Hussain to communicate to his handler in Sri Lanka.

The response provided by US authorities following the request under the MLAT showed that the account was being operated by &quot;Shahjee&quot; who had provided the name while registering with the email account, the officials said. There have been communication with some email addresses in Pakistan and even personal account of Siddiqui, they said.

The email account is also alleged to have been operated under the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo, they said.

The code name for the terror plot to attack the US consulate in Chennai was &quot;wedding hall&quot; which was to be executed by &quot;cooks&quot;, a code for terrorists who were to gain entry from Maldives into India.

Hussain had given a detailed description of his meetings with various Pakistani officials based in Sri Lanka as well as two &quot;fidayeen&quot; (suicide attackers) whom he had met in Bangkok.

Hussain was told by a Pakistani official, who was of a higher rank than Siddiqui, that the project to carry out the attack at the US consulate in Chennai would be code-named as &quot;wedding hall&quot; and &quot;cooks&quot; was the code for the two terrorists who would have executed the plan.

The notes were found stacked under a bed in three rooms of the under-construction house of builder Anand Khatri in Swarup Nagar.&nbsp;

The police also raided&nbsp;seventeen other places including two hotels in Gumti, Jarnailganj to seize the old currency which amounted to Rs 100 crores.

As per media reports, the money was kept for exchange through hawala and NRI transactions in Dubai and other countries.

Since the demonetisation was implemented, a large part of the money has been illegally channelled into the banking system.

Earlier NIA recovered 36 crores of the scrapped notes in November 2017.

In August&nbsp;last year, the Reserve Bank of India informed that 99% of the old currency returned after demonetisation.

She was Akhila before converting to Islam and marrying Shafin Jahan. Sheffin Jahan, husband of Hadiya on Saturday filed a complaint with the Kottayam police stating that attempts are being made to reconvert his wife to Hinduism ahead of her appearance in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Sheffin claimed that his wife was counseled by a religious teacher for over three hours on Thursday.

Earlier on November 23, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) submitted a status report in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court in connection with the case.

Hadiya will appear in the top court on Monday.

The 24-year-old has been in the headlines after she became a Muslim following her marriage to Shafin Jahan.

As of now, Hadiya is with her parents, who have alleged that her marriage to a Muslim man is a case of &#39;love jihad&#39;.

The case is under the consideration of the apex court, which had ordered the NIA to look into it.

Kerala 'Love Jihad' case: SC says 'consent of girl is prime, she is a major'

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at the residence of&nbsp;Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin&#39;s son in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The NIA team reached Shahid Yusuf&#39;s residence in Budgam at 4am and searched the premises for 1.5 hours.

The team seized five mobile phones being used by Yusuf, a laptop and some incriminating documents from his house, an official said.

This comes two days after Salahuddin&rsquo;s&nbsp;son&nbsp;Yusuf was arrested by the NIA for terror funding.

The funding was being done through illegal hawala channels, the NIA said.

An NIA spokesman said that 42-year-old Shahid, who was working in the Jammu and Kashmir government&#39;s agricultural department, has given the names of overseas Hizbul Mujahideen members involved in fund-raising for the terror outfit.

The NIA said that&nbsp;during questioning&nbsp;Shahid &quot;admitted to having received funds from cadres of the Hizbul Mujahideen on the direction of his father, Mohammed Yusuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin, for fomenting terrorist activities in the Valley&quot;.

The NIA alleged that Shahid used to receive funds through international wire money transfer from Aijaz Ahmed Bhat, an absconding accused, at present based in Saudi Arabia.

The agency alleged that Shahid is &quot;one of several Indian contacts of Bhat&quot; who have been in telephonic contact with him to receive the money transfer codes.

The case, registered by the NIA in April 2011, relates to transfer of money from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir through Hawala channels via Delhi which was suspected to be used in funding terrorism and secessionist activities.

The NIA has so far filed two charge sheets against six people which included G M Bhat, a close aide of pro-Pakistan separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mohammed Siddiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga. All the four were in judicial custody.

Besides them, two others - Mohammed Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmed Bhat - have also been chargesheeted by the NIA but both of them were absconding. An Interpol Red Corner notice has been issued against both.

In July, Hizbul chief Syed Salahuddin had admitted to a Pakistan TV channel that his group carried out terror attacks in India.

Salahuddin also admitted to purchasing weapons from international markets, adding that he has the capacity to deliver weapons anywhere if he is paid for it.

The US on June 27 had declared Salahuddin, &quot;Specially Designated Global Terrorist&quot;, hours before visiting Prime Minister Modi&#39;s meeting with US President Donald Trump.&nbsp;
