Mallory's body was found in 1999 but clues about Irvine's fate were elusive until a National Geographic team discovered a boot, still clothing the remains of a foot, on the peak's Central Rongbuk Glacier.&nbsp;

The discovery could give further clues as to the location of the team's personal effects and may help resolve one of mountaineering's most enduring mysteries: whether Irvine and Mallory ever managed to reach the summit.

That could confirm Irvine and Mallory as the first to successfully scale the peak, nearly three decades before the first currently recognised summit in 1953 by climbers Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

The drones have allowed Chinese authorities to map and measure sections of the wall, offering precise data that is already being used to rehabilitate a structure that is widely recognized as one of mankind's greatest feats of engineering, the BBC reported in a video published recently.

Data collected by the drones have helped workers build support structures for vulnerable sections of the wall, the BBC reported.&nbsp;

BBC reported quoting&nbsp;Zhao Peng, a Great Wall architect, that the effort is far more complicated than merely reinforcing old walls with new stone and concrete.

"Some sections of the Great Wall are very dangerous," Peng told the BBC. "Using drones, we can measure lengths and undulations."

"It's such a complex structure," he added. "We need to study arrow holes, battlements, floor designs and even lime content."

The Environment and Forest ministry today roped in the National Geographic group to raise awareness over the single-use plastic and its harmful effects on the environment.

As part of the partnership, Environment minister Harsh Vardhan unveiled the first ever plastic free edition of the magazine, said a statement from the prominent environment based channel and magazine.&nbsp;

"National Geographic and the Ministry of Environment joined forces to support each other's initiatives aimed at addressing the perils of single-use plastic," it said.

In a country where more than 40 per cent of plastic waste remains uncollected, it is critical to understand just how severe the continued use of single-use plastic could become for the sustainability of the ecosystem," said Swati Mohan, Business Head, National Geographic and Fox Networks Group India.

Illegal resident

Gula was arrested late last month after local police found that she was residing in Pakistan on bogus documents.

She was staying in Nauthia, an area in northwest Pakistan.

Pakistani officials said Gula used a fake name Sharbat Bibi while applying for a citizenship certificate in Peshawar. They also alleged that Gula had admitted to wrongdoing during interrogation.

Gula had said she paid an agent to get the identity card, an unnamed official had told Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

Subsequently, she was produced before the court, who denied her bail.

On November 4, she was directed by the court to serve a 15-day jail sentence before she would be deported from the country.

Official pardon

The amnesty was granted by the&nbsp;Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government.

The decision was made after&nbsp;Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan urged Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak not to deport Gula.

The&nbsp;Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government then requested the federal government to nix Gula&#39;s deportation orders.

The&nbsp;Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government reportedly told the federal government that Gula should be allowed to stay in Pakistan as she is a widow supporting her four children and suffering from Hepatitis C.&nbsp;

&quot;She has already spent 11 days in jail,&quot; Nazar said. &quot;We had requested the court to release her on humanitarian grounds,&quot; he added.

Pakistan&#39;s special anti-corruption and immigration court sentenced her to 15 days imprisonment and a 110,000 Pakistani rupee ($1,050) fine.&nbsp;

An Afghan consulate official said that the fine imposed on Gula has already been paid and confirmed she would be released on Monday.

The court had summoned Gula today after the Federal Investigation Agency filed a charge sheet against her for possessing a bogus Pakistani identity card.

On November 2, a Pakistani court denied bail to Gula, eight days after she was arrested from her house in Nauthia, an area in northwest Pakistan.

Pakistani officials say Gula used a fake name Sharbat Bibi while applying for the identity card in Peshawar.

Pakistan&#39;s leading daily Dawn quoted an unnamed official saying that Gula had admitted her guilt during interrogation.&nbsp;

Gula said she paid an agent to get the identity card, the official claimed.

Possessing a fake identity card is deemed to be a serious crime in Pakistan, with the maximum quantum of punishment being 14 years.

Dawn also reported that three officials &mdash; Palwasha Afridi, Mohsin Ehsan and Emad &mdash; have been charged for issuing fake cards to Afghan nationals, one of them being Gula.

Gula was immortalised on the National Geographic cover in 1985 and later in 2002. The haunting look on her face, reflected in her large green eyes, became the iconic photo of the Afghanistan war that was raging in the 1980s.

Leonardo DiCaprio&rsquo;s climate-change documentary Before the Flood will be available for free for a limited&nbsp;time, National Geographic announced.

It can be watched for free across a number of digital platforms, including YouTube and Twitter, until November 6, 2016.
