With a diameter of 64 feet and an overall size similar to that of a house, this asteroid is moving towards Earth and will make its closest approach on August 29. Wilmore and Williams blasted off for the International Space Station (ISS) on Boeing's Starliner on June 5. They were meant to stay on the ISS for eight days. However, their return has been delayed by thruster malfunctions that came to light during the first crewed mission to the ISS by a Boeing spacecraft. There are widespread concerns about when will the two astronauts return and how safe will their entry back home be. Addressing a press conference last week, NASA officials said that they were still analysing thruster data, but a decision on whether to use Starliner or SpaceX was looming. Rudy Ridolfi, former Space System Commander in the US military, explained three frightening scenarios that could play out if they choose to go ahead with Starliner for the astronauts' journey back to Earth. The scenarios by Ridolfi Speaking to The Daily Mail earlier this month Ridolfi said that if Williams and Wilmore were to return back home in the Starliner, they could vapourise upon re-entry of Earth's orbit or be stuck floating in space. Five thrusters failed during the 24-hour journey that took the two astronauts to the ISS back in June. One of the main concerns is that more thrusters could fail on the return leg, leaving them floating in limbo, somewhere between the ISS and Earth. The Daily Mail report on August 8 said that based on the amount of oxygen and power capabilities that Starliner has, the crew would have about 96 hours to revive thrusters and land back on Earth. The crew would need to determine which thrusters have malfunctioned with the hopes of sealing them and still have enough resources to spend a few hours travelling home. It could be possible that the craft does make it to Earth even in this scenario, Ridolfi told the publication. A rescue craft to Starliner ship The report also pointed out that in a worst-case scenario, NASA could be forced to send a rescue craft to the Starliner ship to retrieve Williams and Wilmore. Such a rescue has only been performed once and that too to rescue an unmanned spacecraft. "NASA knows how to do this, but it just takes time. If Starliner bounces off the atmosphere they have to locate it. You can get a general guess of where it is, but you have to start taking radar, and optical observations and calculate the orbit that it's now in." This rescue mission can be accomplished by attaching a tunnel-like structure that would latch onto Starliner's hatch, allowing it to open without harming the astronauts. In this situation, Ridolfi said that once Starliner is located, NASA would have to train another team of astronauts to perform the docking mission. (With inputs from agencies)

The surface of HD 189733 b receives molten glass rains along with supersonic winds of speed about 5,600 miles per hour. It has an extended atmosphere that captures much more radiation. The planet was discovered by NASA in 2005 and has been observed by scientists for its unique weather and atmosphere.

One side of the planet remains exposed to the Sun, causing the temperatures to reach as high as 2,500 degrees Celsius, which can vaporise iron. NASA has spotted a rouge space body moving at extremely high speed in the Milky Way. This hyper-speed object is over 27,306 times the size of Earth and might exit our galaxy pretty soon, as per the scientists. A group of citizen scientists working with NASA's 'Backyard Worlds: Planet 9' project made the spectacular and shocking discovery.

The hypervelocity object was cruising at a speed of one million miles per hour at the time it was spotted. Right now, it is more than 400 light-years from Earth.&nbsp;

Its high speed means that it will soon break free of Milky Way’s gravity and shoot into intergalactic space. The scientists aren't fully sure what the celestial object is, but it is likely a brown dwarf. Such bodies are stars that are larger than a planet but have so little mass that they can't sustain long-term nuclear fusion like our sun.

German citizen-scientist Martin Kabatnik, a part of NASA's Backyard Worlds programme, said in a statement, "I can't describe the level of excitement."

"When I first saw how fast it was moving, I was convinced it must have been reported already."

If the object does turn out to be a brown dwarf, it would be the first time that such a body would have been documented in a chaotic, hyper-speed orbit and capable of escaping our galaxy.&nbsp;

Asteroid 2024 PZ3 has been classified as an Apollo asteroid, which is one of the categories of near-Earth objects (NEOs) which have orbits that cross the path of the Earth.

Generally, NEOs are not a threat because their orbits do not bring them close to the Earth.

Asteroid 2024 PZ3 has not been labelled as a potentially hazardous asteroid, however, its close approach distance of only 277,018 kilometres from Earth makes it important to be monitored.&nbsp;

A rare-heard discovery of evidence of hydrations has been made on asteroid Psyche using the data collected by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.

In the study carried out by the Southwest Research Institute-led team, the presence of hydroxyl molecules was confirmed on the metallic asteroid Psyche's surface.

The existence of the hydrated minerals has shifted the spotlight on the history of the asteroid which has been orbiting the sun between planets Mars and Jupiter.

Asteroid Psyche, which is 140 miles in diameter, is one of the biggest space rocks in the main asteroid belt.&nbsp;

It is a dense and mostly metallic celestial object which is suspected to be the leftover core of some planet that may have gone through a catastrophic collision.&nbsp;

&nbsp;The Psyche spacecraft was launched by NASA on October 13, 2023, and will cover 2.2 billion miles and reach the asteroid in August 2029.

Planetary Science Journal paper's second author Dr Tracy Becker said, "Using telescopes at different wavelengths of infrared light, the SwRI-led research will provide different but complementary information to what the Psyche spacecraft is designed to study."

"Our understanding of solar system evolution is closely tied to interpretations of asteroid composition, particularly the M-class asteroids that contain higher concentrations of metal," said Dr. Stephanie Jarmak, the lead author of the study.

"These asteroids were initially thought to be the exposed cores of differentiated planetesimals, a hypothesis based on their spectral similarity to iron meteorites," she added.

Instead, it could suggest that Psyche originated beyond the 'snow line,' the minimum distance from the sun where protoplanetary disk temperatures are low enough for volatile compounds to condense into solids, before migrating to the outer main belt," she added.&nbsp;
