Saudi Arabia wants to forge strong ties with India. This is a relationship rooted in the realm of political and economic realities.

Truth be told, strong ties will benefit both sides. India needs oil. What about the Saudis? Why has Riyadh prioritised Delhi?

What is the strategic significance? On WION Edit, we will explore these questions. First, let's tell you what India has been up to. Diversifying sources of energy.

PM Narendra Modi's government is credited for boosting India's ability to do this through multiple engagements. After US sanctions on Iran and Venezuela, India needed to secure its energy interests.

And Saudi Arabia was quick to fill the gaps. Right now, India imports 83 per cent of its oil needs and Saudi Arabia is the second-biggest supplier

So technically, access to Indian markets is a huge economic benefit for a country like Saudi Arabia - whose economy is fueled by oil. But that's not the only draw for Riyadh.

It is looking at the long term and India's growing clout. Here are some points to note:

Going forward, Saudi Arabia wants to rely less on its oil reserves. In March 2018, the Kingdom announced the largest renewables project ever, a solar push worth over 200 billion dollars.

That project failed to take off and was eventually. But Saudi Arabia has not given up its goal to move away from oil dependence. Recently, Riyadh tripled its renewable energy target. The focus is wind and solar energy, projects have been tendered.

So why does Saudi Arabia want to move away from oil? Because depending on oil is dangerous.

First, fluctuating prices hurt the Saudi economy. A drop in oil prices puts them under fiscal pressure. Two, as the world transitions towards clean and renewable energy, countries like Saudi Arabia will be hit hard.

So what can the Kingdom do? Shift to renewable energy. Insulate the economy from oil price shocks and as a buffer, establish ties with countries that import oil-- i.e. India.

Yes, countries will aggressively push for climate action in the coming years. But that doesn't imply a total ban on fossil fuel. At least for the next few decades.

And countries like India and China will have more energy needs as their economies expand. So Saudi Arabia will find no better importers than India and China during this transition period. Besides, India will be perfectly placed to help Saudi Arabia through the clean energy transition.

The solar market in India is robust and ever-growing, the synergies are also in India's favour.

Besides, Saudi investments in India are strategic. The return from Indian markets is one of the best in the world. And the economy is pegged to grow further in the coming decades.

This is the grand plan, Saudi investments in India are strategic and a win-win proposition for both. This relationship is no more about remittances or immediate gains. India is one of the biggest games in town and Saudi Arabia only knows it too well.

He also raised the issue of cross border terror and said " Urgent action must be taken against all those who support or sponsor terrorists or support such activities and organizations or use terrorism as a state policy''. There should be zero tolerance for terrorism, he added. PM Modi wishes nation on Diwali

While addressing the nation in his monthly radio programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared many inspiring stories of women and their achievements as a part of celebrating India's 'Nari Shakti', thereby felicitating the 'Bharat ki Lakshmi'.

Prime Minister Modi had announced the starting of 'Bharat ki Lakshmi' campaign during Diwali on his 57th edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' and called on citizens to outline the achievements of 'daughters' of the country using #BharatKiLaxmi.

"In last Mann Ki Baat, we had decided to celebrate this Diwali in a different way. I had called for celebrating the achievements of Naari Shakti of India--which means honouring 'Bharat ki Laxmi'--Lakshmi of India," said Modi.

"Soon after I conveyed this message, it drew an instant response and social media has been flooded with several inspirational stories," he added.

Modi further narrated an inspiring story shared by K Ramesh from Warangal who stated, "My mother is my strength when my father passed away in 1990. It was my mother who shouldered the responsibility of her five sons and today all five of us are well placed in life."

Ramesh further added that his mother is his God, his everything and for him, she is 'Bharat ki Laxmi' in true sense.

Sharing another story, Modi told that Geetika Swami who is quite active on Twitter says that for her Major Khushbu Kanwar is 'Bharat ki Laxmi' who is the daughter of a bus conductor and she led the all-women contingent of the Assam Rifles.

"For Kavita Tiwari Ji, her daughter is her Bharat ki Laxmi, she is proud that her daughter makes beautiful paintings. Also, she has achieved a high-rank degree in CLAT," said Modi.

Narrating another motivating story, Modi told about a 92-year-old woman who has been providing free drinking water to travellers at Gwalior Railway Station for many years.

"Megha who shared this story with us is greatly inspired by the compassion of this Bharat ki Laxmi. People have shared many such stories. I request you all to read these stories and get inspired. Please share similar stories from your surroundings," said Modi.

Prime Minister humbly greeted all these 'Laxmis of India'. Modi also shared a poem penned by poetess Sanchi Honnamma in Kannada that embodies the same expression and thought to pertain to every Bharat ki Laxmi.

"A famous poet of the seventeenth century, Sanchi Honnamma wrote a poem in Kannada depicting the same spirit about Bharat ki Laxmi, that we are discussing today. This poem consists of beautiful expressions," said Modi.

Translating the poem into Hindi language, Modi said, "The poem means Himvanta got fame because of his daughter Parvati, Rishi Bhrigu got fame because of his daughter Laxmi and King Janak got fame because of his daughter Sita."

"Our daughters are our pride and from our daughters, only our society draws its strength and hope for future," he added.

India has taken Pakistan to global civil aviation body International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for denying the use of airspace for transit for President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India has taken Pakistan to global civil aviation body International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for denying the use of airspace for transit for President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Islamabad on Sunday announced that it will not be allowing the use of its airspace for PM Modi's plane during his visit to Saudi Arabia. Reacting to the development, a government source said, "We regret the decision of the Government of Pakistan to yet again deny overflight clearance for the VVIP special flight, which is otherwise granted routinely by any normal country." Explaining, "Overflight clearances are sought, and granted by other countries as per prescribed ICAO guidelines and India will continue to seek such overflight clearances. Separately, we have taken up the matter of such denial with the relevant international civil aviation body." Under the charter of ICAO, unless it's war, denying the use of airspace by singling out cannot be done by any country. Pakistan can be slapped with a heavy fine. This is the second time since the abrogation of Article 370, Pakistan has denied the use of its Airspace for PM Modi. Pakistan denied airspace when Modi was travelling to New York for United Nations General Assembly week in September. "Pakistan should reflect upon its decision to deviate from well established international practice, as well as reconsider its old habit of misrepresenting the reasons for taking unilateral action," a government source said. Pakistan has also denied the use of its airspace for President Ram Nath Kovind's plane in early September. Pakistan had closed its airspace on February 27 after India's counter-terror operation in Balakot on February 26 following Pulwama attack that killed more than 40 Indian security personnel. The closure that lasted for more than four months had caused a considerable problem for air travellers across the globe.

India drags Pakistan to global civil aviation body after it denies airspace to PM Modi yet again

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be leaving for Saudi Arabia tomorrow. The focus of his visit would be on energy, launching RuPay card in the kingdom and a speech at the 3rd Future Investment Initiative Forum which is also known as the "Davos of the desert". On Tuesday, PM Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with King Salman of Saudi Arabia and separate delegation-level talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

Both sides will be signing the Strategic Partnership Council - SPC MoU -which will be headed by PM Modi and the crown prince. India and Saudi Arabia will also have two verticals at foreign ministers' level and trade ministers' level. Under the vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has selected 8 countries for forging strategic partnerships. The countries include India, China, UK, US, France, Germany, South Korea and Japan. The SPC was agreed upon in February this year and aims to monitor the strategic partnership between both countries.

Future investment initiative (FII) forum

The highlight of the visit will be PM Modi's speech at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Forum in Riyadh. The prime minister will be attending the third session of the investment meeting and will deliver the keynote address. The FII is organised by the kingdom’s Sovereign Wealth Fund – the Public Investment Fund and is organised under Saudi King's vision 2030 which sees the economic transformation of the country from an oil-based economy to a more diversified economy. It was first organised in 2017.

Energy

Energy remains the main component of the visit with India importing 18 per cent of its crude oil requirement from the West Asian country.

TS Tirumurti, secretary economic relations, Ministry of External Affairs said, "We also hope to sign an MoU on a joint venture between Indian Oil Middle East with Al-Jeri company of Saudi Arabia for downstream cooperation for inter-alia setting up retail outlets in Saudi Arabia. Energy security has been the main area of India’s engagement with Saudi Arabia. We are well on our way to transforming the buyer-seller relationship in this sector into a much larger strategic partnership."

Saudi Aramco, UAE's ADNOC and Indian public sector oil companies are jointly developing $44 billion worth "west coast refinery" in Raigad, Maharashtra which is the single largest greenfield refinery in India. Saudi company Al fanar is currently executing a 300 MW wind power project in Kutch, Gujarat. Indian company Reliance announced that Saudi Aramco, one of the most valuable and profitable companies in the world, will take over 20 per cent share in RIL oil and chemical business at a value of a whopping $75 billion. Saudi Arabia is also looking to participate in India's strategic petroleum reserves.

People-to-people ties

To help the Indian community in the kingdom, India will be launching RuPay card. Saudi Arabia is the third country in West Asia after Bahrain and UAE to get the facility.

"An MoU is likely to be signed during the visit to launch the Rupay card in Saudi Arabia which will be very useful for not only the large Indian community but also to Haj and Umrah pilgrims, "TS Tirumurti said.

The Indian community in the kingdom has over 2.5 million people who send back $11 billion in remittances and with an increase in Haj quota to 2,00,000 from 1,750,25, the people-to-people connect between the two nations have strengthened. Around 7,00,000 Indians visit kingdom for Umrah each year. For the welfare of the Indian workers, PM Modi will launch the integration of e-migrate system which will be aligned with the Saudi counterpart to safeguard employment conditions. India and Saudi Arabia will also sign an MoU to increase the quota for flights between the two countries. During Crown Prince's February visit, India had agreed to an increase of 8,000 seats per week.

Defence

India and Saudi Arabia are increasingly cooperating on defence with a special focus on maritime security in the Indian ocean. The first India Saudi Arabia Joint Naval exercise will be held by the end of December this year. India has been training Saudi defence personnel. New Delhi is also leveraging its expertise in cyberspace with Saudi officers being given training in cybersecurity at the Gujarat Forensic Science University in Gandhi Nagar. The Saudi Royal Navy had visited India in August this year and visited the information fusion centre of the Indian Ocean region set up by the Indian Navy.

Pakistan, Kashmir, Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan are the three countries in West Asia who have increased engagement with New Delhi. India says Saudi Arabia "has shown understanding of the recent developments" of revoking the special status for Jammu and Kashmir. Secretary, economic relations said, Riyadh's stand "has had a salutary effect on Pakistan"

On terror, Tirumurti said, "no doubt that both our countries are equally concerned about terrorism and you’d also recall that India itself had condemned the missile and the drone strikes on inter-alia the Saudi oil installations and facilities. So, therefore, terrorism has been an important aspect of our discussions and our cooperation." Saudi Arabia had condemned the Pulwama and Uri attacks.

Riyadh-Delhi: Hamim

'Hamin', is an Arabic word for intimate friend and both India and Saudi Arabia aim to become one. This will be PM Modi's second visit to Saudi Arabia since 2016 and comes months after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman's visit to India. During the 2016 visit, PM Modi was conferred the highest civilian award of the kingdom - King Abdul Aziz Sash. Saudi Arabia has announced it will invest up to $100 billion in India. Trade between the two countries grew by $24 billion in the last year and stands at $34 billion. There are around 322 Indian companies in the kingdom such as L&T, Wipro, TCS and startups like PayTM, OYO, among others. Future investment initiative (FII) forum The highlight of the visit will be PM Modi's speech at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Forum in Riyadh. Energy Energy remains the main component of the visit with India importing 18 per cent of its crude oil requirement from the West Asian country. We are well on our way to transforming the buyer-seller relationship in this sector into a much larger strategic partnership." Saudi Aramco, UAE's ADNOC and Indian public sector oil companies are jointly developing $44 billion worth "west coast refinery" in Raigad, Maharashtra which is the single largest greenfield refinery in India. People-to-people ties To help the Indian community in the kingdom, India will be launching RuPay card. Defence India and Saudi Arabia are increasingly cooperating on defence with a special focus on maritime security in the Indian ocean. Pakistan, Kashmir, Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan are the three countries in West Asia who have increased engagement with New Delhi. India says Saudi Arabia "has shown understanding of the recent developments" of revoking the special status for Jammu and Kashmir. Secretary, economic relations said, Riyadh's stand "has had a salutary effect on Pakistan" On terror, Tirumurti said, "no doubt that both our countries are equally concerned about terrorism and you’d also recall that India itself had condemned the missile and the drone strikes on inter-alia the Saudi oil installations and facilities. So, therefore, terrorism has been an important aspect of our discussions and our cooperation." Saudi Arabia had condemned the Pulwama and Uri attacks. Riyadh-Delhi: Hamim 'Hamin', is an Arabic word for intimate friend and both India and Saudi Arabia aim to become one. Pakistan on Saturday said it denied India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi permission to fly through its airspace, reported news agency AFP. It is the third time in recent weeks that Islamabad has refused to allow Indian leaders to use its airspace. Requests by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Modi were turned down last month. The decision came with tensions simmering between the two nuclear-armed arch-rivals over the revocation of Article 370. "Indian Prime Minister wanted to use our airspace but we denied permission in the perspective of black day being observed by Kashmiris today to condemn Indian occupation and ongoing grave human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir," foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a statement. He said the Indian high commissioner (ambassador) was being informed about the decision. Modi had reportedly sought permission to use Pakistan's airspace to travel to Saudi Arabia, where he is due to attend an investment summit. Pakistan had closed its airspace to Indian traffic in February after Pulwama suicide bomb attack that killed dozens of Indian troops in Kashmir, ratcheted up tensions between the two neighbours and prompted aerial dogfights. It reopened its skies for all civilian traffic in July, ending months of restrictions that had affected major international routes. (With inputs from AFP)

The Congress on Friday opposed India signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, saying it will be the "third big jolt" to the Indian economy after demonetization and GST and will result in liberalising Chinese imports to the Indian market.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that there was a possibility of India signing the RCEP agreement.

"After demonetisation and GST, it will be the third big jolt to our economy when the Prime Minister goes to Bangkok the next month and expresses India`s agreement to Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership," he said.

He said the government was not talking about` Made in India` now and the agreement will encourage `Made in China`.

Ramesh said that the balance of trade was heavily in favour of China.

"RCEP will result in the liberalisation of imports from China. We do not know what was discussed in Wuhan or Mahabalipuram but we can see the results, there will be liberalisation in imports from China. `Made in India` is not mentioned now. It`ll encourage `Made in China`," he said.

He said that managing director of Amul has written a letter to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in which he has expressed concern and said that Indian dairy cooperative will be ruined if India proceeds with RCEP.

"Managing Director of Amul has written to Minister Piyush Goyal stating that India should not do RCEP, else dairy cooperative would be ruined. The milk will be imported from New Zealand, sugar from Australia, dairy products would be imported and it will also ruin our agriculture," he said.

"India will accept the free flow of data under RCEP. The national interest particularly the national security has been removed from the draft RCEP," he added.

Ramesh alleged that the government was keen to sign the agreement due to "mismanagement of the economy".

"There is a text to RCEP, there is context to RCEP. The text to RCEP is bad, the concept is worst," he added.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is slated to visit India on November 1 for the fifth biennial Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).

Merkel, who is coming to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be accompanied by several ministers and state secretaries of the federal government, as well as a high-powered business delegation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in an official statement.

"Under the IGC format, the counterpart ministers from both countries will hold initial discussions in their respective areas of responsibility. The outcome of these discussions will be reported on at the IGC co-chaired by the Prime Minister and the Federal Chancellor of Germany," the MEA statement said.

During the IGC, the two sides will discuss the deepening of cooperation in traditional sectors such as transport, skill development, and energy, and explore possibilities for cooperation in newer areas like green urban mobility and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Modi and Merkel will also exchange views on regional and global matters of mutual interest.

Both leaders will have a separate engagement with CEOs and business leaders of both countries, the statement said.

The German Chancellor is also expected to call on President Ram Nath Kovind.

"India and Germany have established a strategic partnership that is characterised by a high degree of trust and mutual understanding. The two leaders have regularly interacted on the sidelines of multilateral meetings. Germany is a leading trade and investment partner," the statement said.

Last month, Merkel had met Modi on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two leaders held wide-ranging dialogues on several issues. In April last year, Modi made a brief stopover in Berlin and met Merkel after his visit to Sweden and Britain.

The assembly elections are the first after the BJP-led government's decision to revoke Article 370. A verdict in its favour will give a boost to the party ahead of the winter session of Parliament next month.

A victory will also keep the political momentum with the BJP after its emphatic victory in the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The polls are equally as crucial for the Congress which has faced desertions after its second successive debacle in the Lok Sabha polls. A strong performance will help the party in its process of electoral revival.

A strong performance will help the party in its process of electoral revival. The BJP has already declared that incumbent Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will continue to lead the state government if the party is voted to power.

It also praised Modi's 'Make in India' campaign which focused on attracting foreign investment, boosting the private sector, manufacturing in particular, and enhancing the country's overall competitiveness.

In India, the report said, the importing and exporting also became easier for companies with the creation of a single electronic platform for trade stakeholders, upgrades to port infrastructure and improvements to electronic submission of documents.

Last year, India was ranked 77th. In six years of the Modi government, India's ranking improved 79 places from 142nd in 2014 to 63th in 2019, a record for a major economy.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has reacted sharply to Raghuram Rajan's views on the slowdown of the Indian economy. Rajan was appointed Governor of Reserve Bank of India in 2013 during UPA 2, headed by Manmohan Singh.

Now, he is going about saying that the Modi Government lacks vision on economic growth.

Addressing a select gathering at the Consulate General of India in New York City recently, the Finance Minister hit back by categorically stating that it was during Raghuram Rajan's time that huge loans were disbursed only on a phone call from crony leaders.

Taking a dig at Manmohan Singh, who was the Prime Minister when all this was happening, Sitharaman said that Manmohan Singh is supposed to have an articulated vision of the Indian economy. She also observed that Indian Public Sector banks did not have the worst phase than when there was this combination of Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister and Raghuram Rajan as Governor of Reserve Bank of India.

On what ails our banks today and what is the genesis of the bad loan crisis. the Finance Minister said Dr Rajan had himself told a Parliamentary Panel that a large number of bad loans could be linked to the period between 2006 and 2008. This is the time when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister - so where should the buck stop?

After winning the Nobel Prize in Economics, Abhijit Banerjee is reported to have said: "Indian economy is on shaky ground." "In the last five-six years, at least we could witness some growth, but now that assurance is also gone."

According to Banerjee, in the short term, Modi government policies are not highly simulating. Besides Ujjwala, the other flagship schemes of the Modi Government are not putting cash in the hands of anybody.

If the Finance Minister were to take his advice, Banerjee said that he would probably say, "Get some more money in the hands of the poor and they will spend it."

Its all about increasing consumption but we don’t increase consumption by increasing bank accounts. On the consumption front, both Banerjee and Raghuram Rajan perfectly gel and have the same take. But this is looking at the problem - the state of the national economy - through the keyhole.

Running a country with a vision is more important than building a short-term road map only to woo the voters. The pitfalls of short term policies notwithstanding, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has chosen to stick to the same plank crafted by the likes of Banerjee and Rajan.

During campaigning for the Maharashtra and Haryana State Assembly election, Rahul Gandhi again took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Government while taking credit for Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme that was introduced by the Manmohan Singh Government to ensure money directly reached the poor in the countryside.

Then Rahul had also upped his campaign for the 2019 Parliamentary election by announcing the NYAY scheme, which Abhijit Banerjee had helped conceptualise. After the people of India have rejected this scheme and shown the Congress party its place, Banerjee is again advocating the idea of direct money transfer in a big way. And Rahul is trying to play the game of one-upmanship with Modi on the agenda of neo-patrimonialism.

People appear fully capable of seeing through all this and as far as the outcome of the general election to the State Assemblies of Maharashtra and Haryana is concerned, for the main Opposition Congress, the writing is clear on the wall.

More about Abhijit and his observations about the present state of Indian economy would follow on the basis of analysis of past follies, including the way policies influenced by the Global Research Centre founded by Banerjee and company in the US were tested in a State like Madhya Pradesh - the central Indian State - 1999 onwards and how the people had rejected a popularly elected government moving on this path in the 2003 election, when Madhya Pradesh had the potential but was still devoid of the economic infrastructure and lacked a positive track record in terms of human resource development, which is so essential for economic growth.

1999 was the starting point in Madhya Pradesh when the then State government focused only on imparting training to teachers at the primary school level and totally neglected the issue of schools devoid of basic facilities. There was also a lopsided approach when it came to building the infrastructure and human resource development for the sake of economic growth. In the process, a whole generation has now multiplied in geometric progression, which is barely able to sustain itself and the quality of life for a big section of the population remains a far cry. It is unfortunate that political games are being played over the state of the economy and even acclaimed economists have become a party to political machinations.

Indian economy not immune to blemishes of politicisation

India on Monday said that it's "constrained" to accept $20 service fee proposed by Islamabad for using the Kartarpur corridor after Pakistan remained "adamant" on the levy.

India on Monday said that it's "constrained" to accept $20 service fee proposed by Islamabad for using the Kartarpur corridor after Pakistan remained "adamant" on the levy. The Kartarpur agreement will be signed both sides on Wednesday at the zero points at the Dera Baba Nanak. Ahead of the signing, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "While agreeing to sign the agreement, the Government of Pakistan (GoP) has been once again urged to reconsider its insistence to levy service fee on pilgrims. India would be ready to amend the Agreement accordingly at any time." Expressing "disappointment", New Delhi said, "Government has consistently urged Pakistan that in deference to the wishes of the pilgrims, it should not levy such a fee." This is the second time in a week, India has asked Pakistan to drop its $20 fee proposal as the project is people to people project but Pakistan has been "rigid and inflexible in its unreasonable demand". Even a month after the proposal was first given, Pakistan refused to budge. Islamabad says it will levy a $20 fee to cover the operational cost of the corridor. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan exchanged mock data of pilgrims ahead of the opening of the corridor at 2 pm IST at zero points. PM Modi will be inaugurating Indian side of the corridor on November 8 while Pakistan will be inaugurating its side of the corridor on November 9. No visa will be required by pilgrims but they have to carry the passport. Both sides had agreed last year to open the corridor to the Kartarpur located in Pakistan, just a few kilometres from the International border, on the occasion of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Kartarpur Gurudwara has a huge significance in Sikhism since the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the last 18 years of his life in the area where the Gurudwara stands now.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared the Tamil translation of the poem that he penned during his stay in Tamil Nadu's Mamallapuram, where he had held informal talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"Here is a Tamil translation of the poem I wrote while I was at the picturesque shores of Mamallapuram a few days ago," Modi said in a tweet, posting a picture of the Tamil translation of the poem.

In his eight-paragraph poem, the Prime Minister talked about the ocean's relationship with the sun, waves and its pain and restraint despite unparallel power.

"I was lost in conversation with the sea during a morning walk on Mahabalipuram beach. This conversation conveys the world of my feelings. I am sharing this with you in the form of a poem," he had said sharing the poem on October 13.

Earlier, Union Minister Smriti had said that Prime Minister is campaigning in Maharashtra to guide and encourage candidates of the BJP. The last date for campaigning for the election is October 19. PM Modi to hold 3 rallies in poll-bound Maharashtra today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday targetted Congress stating the party was on its deathbed as nepotism has overshadowed its nationalism.

"Congress nationalism has been suppressed by nepotism. Due to dynasticism, Congress is unable to see nationalism.
This is the reason that Congress is faltering today and breathing its last," Prime Minister Modi said addressing a rally in Partur, the second today.

Taking a jibe at Congress, Modi said that he has heard the opposition party is giving lessons of nationalism to its leaders.

"I read somewhere that new training has started in Congress. They will be teaching nationalism to their leaders. This means that today's Congress does not have even patriots. Their nationalism has been trampled by their family-ism," he said.

On abrogation of Article 370, Prime Minister said that even the workers of the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have said that on issues like Article 370, every Indian should stand together with Modi and for the betterment of the country.

"However, these people are then silenced by their leaders. Will any nationalist protest against the surgical strikes? Will they insult the Army and its warriors? These people did that job shamelessly," he said.

The Prime Minister asserted that everybody should speak in the same voice on issues of national interest and national defence.

Cornering NCP and Congress on the issue of nationalism, he said: "There have always been voices from Maharashtra about nationalism and patriotism. But unfortunately, these ethics and values of Maharashtra have always hurt by the leaders of Congress-NCP on every occasion, on every platform. They are not even ready to understand your feelings."

He said despite Maharashtra having had three Chief Ministers from Marathwada, but there was no change in the poor situation of the region.

"These Chief Ministers were filling their own coffers and were not working for the development of the State. Marathwada has suffered a major loss of Congress-NCP rule. Before 2014, the situation was such that plans were made for Marathwada but development was done by some relatives of the leaders," Modi said.

Prime Minister Modi's election campaign in Maharashtra will end on October 18. Single-phased polls in Maharashtra are scheduled to be held on October 21 and results will be announced on October 24.

PM Modi pays tribute to 'Missile Man' Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his 88th birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the Indian National Congress of playing petty politics over the Rafale and abolition of Article 370 issues.

Prime Minister was addressing a political rally in poll-bound Haryana's Kurukshetra.

'Whenever the country is happy about something, the leaders of INC have problems. It is not limited to Rafale only. But whenever the nation gets appreciation and is praised, it evokes a negative reaction from the
Congress,' PM Modi said.

"On Dussehra, India got the first Rafale jet in France. You tell me when were you happy or not when the Air Force got Rafale. You are feeling proud that our force got Rafale. 125 crore citizens are proud of it. But the Congress people always have a problem when people are happy. This thing causes them pain. This is not limited to Rafale only," he said.

"The attitude of Congress leaders is always negative to everything which earns accolades for India. When India gets an award for cleanliness, they have a problem. They also have a problem when world leaders come to the programme of Indian leaders," he added.

Congress had vociferously raised the Rafale deal issue in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, alleging that the cost of a fighter jet in the deal concluded by the Modi government was higher than that negotiated by the Congress-led UPA government.
