The elephant&nbsp;skull&nbsp;was found buried along with 87&nbsp;stone tools which were used by prehistoric humans and other materials which were excavated under Dr Ghulam Bhat at the University of Jammu.

The skull was studied by an international team of scientists from the Florida Museum of Natural History, the British Museum, the University of York, and the Natural History Museum (London), along with the University of Helsinki's Dr. Steven Zhang to find out the age and evolutionary context of this megaherbivore. The paper was&nbsp;published&nbsp;in the&nbsp;Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.

"From the general shape of the skull, it's quite apparent that the elephant belonged to Palaeoloxodon, or straight-tusked elephants, among the largest land mammals that ever lived. Full-grown adults easily stood around 4m tall at the shoulder and weighed 9–10 tonnes," said Zhang, who is a palaeontologist from the University's Department of Geosciences and Geography.

"Yet what's puzzled experts for some time is that the Kashmir skull lacks a thickened, forward-projecting crest at the skull roof which typifies other Palaeoloxodon skulls found in India," he added.

In recent research, it was found that the skull crest in these elephants turned more prominent with sexual and developmental maturity.&nbsp;

"From the size, the wisdom teeth and a few other telltale features of the skull, it is evident that the animal was a majestic bull elephant in the prime of its life, but the lack of a well-developed skull crest, particularly in comparison with other mature male skulls from Europe and from India, tells us we have a different species on our hands here," Zhang said.

According to the research team, the features of the Kashmiri skull matched another obscure skull from Turkmenistan which belonged to a distinct species called Palaeoloxodon turkmenicus.

"What's always been puzzling about the Turkmen skull is that, besides the lack of a prominent crest at the skull roof, its other features are highly similar to the already well-known European species, P. antiquus. And this led a number of experts to suggest that the Turkmen specimen is simply an aberrant individual of the European species," Zhang stated&nbsp;

"But with the Kashmir skull added to the mix, it becomes clear now that the two specimens can be theorized to represent a&nbsp;distinct species&nbsp;that we previously knew very little about, with a broad distribution from Central Asia to the northern Indian Subcontinent," explained Dr Advait Jukar, the lead author of the study.&nbsp;

After measuring protein decomposition in the Kashmir Palaeoloxodon skull's tooth enamel and observing the stone tools found alongside, the team suggested that the skull belonged to a species distinct from other Eurasian Palaeoloxodon, which might be Palaeoloxodon turkmenicus.&nbsp;

The landforms, which are surrounded by darker than the icy realms, have earned the title of ‘cryptic terrain’.

The planet's seasonal polar caps are filled with carbon dioxide ice and have a touch of water ice.&nbsp;

As the spring arrives, the ice is known to sublimate at a good pace and quickly turn from a solid state to vapour because of which a considerable amount of gas gets freed into the thin atmosphere of Mars.

The process is known to reverse during autumn as the vapour condenses and the caps continue to grow. In this process, these mysterious landforms are formed out of the freeze-thaw cycle.

This landform has been found in Australe Scopuli, which was captured by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) onboard&nbsp;Mars Express&nbsp;during spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Australe Scopuli has layered deposits of ice which has different amounts of dust trapped beneath the smooth surface of the polar layered deposits.

In the centre of this region is the cryptic terrain, which is darker in comparison to the rest of the ice cap.

In the image captured, the dark centre stage was covered with different types of polygon shapes at various scales.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the polygon edges appear to be trapped in bright frost, which is a pattern found in the Arctic and Antarctic regions on Earth.

According to a report published in IFL Science, between 2010 and 2022, a total of 65 newly formed craters were found by the scientists, the largest of which was said to be of the size of a city block and featuring six-storey buildings.

The team was headed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI). They earlier thought that the permafrost spread over the area in the last stage of the ice age nearly 11,000 years ago.

However, when sea levels rose, the ancient permafrost on the Arctic shelf was covered.

“These findings upend our assumptions about underwater permafrost,” said the study’s lead author Charlie Paull, of the MBARI, in a&nbsp;statement.

“We previously believed all underwater permafrost was leftover from the last ice age, but we’ve learned that submarine permafrost ice is also actively forming and decomposing on the modern seafloor,” he added.

“Our work shows that permafrost ice is both actively forming and decomposing near the seafloor over widespread areas, creating a dynamic underwater landscape with massive sinkholes and large mounds of ice covered in sediment," Paull stated.

The company, however, stated that the technology can be used for measuring different variables&nbsp;like tracking storm systems, wildfires and greenhouse gases.

On the basis of the trajectory, Wocken said that the balloon was spotted hanging around the Denver metro before the winds carried it southwest.

Since the ocean seabed is almost flat, if the lysocline rises by some meters it leads to the rapid creation of large under-saturated (acidic) areas.

According to the research, this zone has increased by nearly 100 metres since pre-industrial times and is likely to further rise by hundreds of metres in this century.

It is expected that the ocean floor's millions of square kilometres will go through a rapid transition in which calcareous sediment will turn chemically unstable and eventually dissolve.

The newfound seamount was given the name Mount Los Atlantes by the scientists after the fabled civilisation of Plato, which was submerged into an ocean by the gods as a punishment for the immortality of the citizens.

"They were islands in the past and they have sunk, they are still sinking, as the legend of Atlantis tells," said Somoza, who is a geologist with the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME-CSIC),&nbsp;in a translated statement.

Barlow battled for three days as the weather slowly damaged his ship. With the help of a Garmin tracker, he was in touch with his family.

"The autopilot broke in the first storm, so we had been hand steering for three days. [My friend] had all the symptoms of hypothermia and he went down below and passed out. He was unconscious throughout all of this," he said.

He decided to hit the SOS button on his Garmin and was able to contact the Coast Guard in New Orleans. After which he was rescued, but had to abandon the ship.

The study has also studied the objects which have crossed Neptune and how the orbits were affected, while considering the passing stars and the Galactic tide, according to the outlet.&nbsp;

"The solar system’s distant reaches exhibit a wealth of anomalous dynamical structure, hinting at the presence of a yet-undetected, massive trans-Neptunian body — Planet 9," states the study.

"With an 8.4-metre&nbsp;mirror and the largest camera ever built for astronomy and astrophysics, Vera C. Rubin Observatory will capture the cosmos in exquisite detail and help answer some of our biggest questions about the Universe," confirmed the observatory's website.

The man, who is said to have lived for five years in the forest, was captured by two hikers on the camera, who as per reports saw him naked, without a piece of cloth on his body, and carrying a wooden spear at the foot of a ruined castle. 
 
In the blurry photos, the man is looking either covered in dirt or extremely hairy while he is sitting on the ground and playing with the sand.

31-year-old Gina Weiss and her 38-year-old friend Tobi were taking a walk in Blankenburg in the state of Saxony-Anhalt on Tuesday evening when they clicked the picture.

“He wouldn’t take his eyes off us, said nothing. He looked dirty like a Stone Age man from a history book,” he added. The pair stated that they had 10 minutes of encounter with the 'wolf man' who is believed to be in his 40s. 
 
This is not the first time they have spotted the supposed 'wolf man' in the Blankenburg region. Authorities stated that multiple reports have been submitted to them over the last half-decade of someone appearing in a wolf costume or wearing wolf fur in the forest.

As per AFP, it was supposed to close for only a month, however, Ain Dubai's reopening has been postponed indefinitely.

"Last year they promised us that in winter it will be open, even now, they are saying that in (the coming) winter it will be open again," said one employee while talking to AFP.

"But we're not sure... it will," he added while speaking on condition of anonymity.

<h2>Reason behind closure</h2>

AFP reports that for more than a month, the attraction has remained closed, with ticket booths abandoned. A slow trickle of tourists continue to visit the mega-wheel but only to click pictures of the LED lights mounted on the tourist attraction.

Marwan Mohammad, an Egyptian tourist told the news agency that he asked a security guard about the Ferris wheel but was told that "it doesn't work."

"I asked him for the reason but he did not give me an answer," said the tourist.&nbsp;

An official explanation is yet to be announced, however, employees at Bluewaters speculate that the reason is technical issues.

"This is a man-made island. I heard that (the wheel) is heavier than the island itself, that's why it is very dangerous," said a waiter, adding that during its few months of operation, it had been noisy.

"Now... it's only for show, just for the lighting and that's it".

At nearly twice the height of the London Eye, the Ain Dubai is the largest of its kind in the world. The tourist attraction stands at a height of 250 metres (825 feet). Dubai's tourism department claims that each of its legs is the length of 15 London buses.

With 48-passenger air-conditioned cabins, it could carry 1,750 passengers on a single ride. Tickets for the 38-minute ride used to cost between 100 dirhams (about $27) and 4,700 dirhams (about $1,280). Luxury passes and private cabins were also on offer.

It was built by a consortium of international companies and is located in Bluewaters — a man-made island that serves as a retail, residential and entertainment hub.

Hanging in balance: World's tallest Ferris wheel shut over mysterious reasons

A new type of stellar object has been discovered by astronomers which may change their understanding of extreme celestial bodies in the universe.

Earlier, a spinning celestial space object was spotted by Curtin University doctoral student Tyrone O’Doherty in March 2018. Giant bursts of energy were released by that unfamiliar object and it beamed out radiation at a frequency of three times per hour.

The phenomenon was thought to be a remnant of a collapsed star by the researchers. After a study was released that described the observation in January 2022, O’Doherty and a team of astronomers at the Curtin University node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, or ICRAR, in Australia started hunting for another such example.

“We were stumped,” stated Dr Natasha Hurley-Walker, senior lecturer at the Curtin University node of ICRAR. “So we started searching for similar objects to find out if it was an isolated event or just the tip of the iceberg," she added, in a statement

The sky was observed, between July and September 2022, by the team using the Murchison Widefield Array, which is a radio telescope on Wajarri Yamaji Country in Western Australia.&nbsp;

While observing the sky, the scientists spotted an object in the Scutum constellation, 15,000 light-years from Earth. The object, which was named GPM J1839−10, releases radio waves every 22 minutes and the bursts of energy last till five minutes.

<h2>Rare type of magnetar?</h2>

Astronomers said that the object can be a rare type of star or magnetar which has extremely strong magnetic fields and is capable of releasing energetic and powerful bursts.&nbsp;

A study which gave details about the discovery was published in the journal Nature on Wednesday.

“This remarkable object challenges our understanding of neutron stars and magnetars, which are some of the most exotic and extreme objects in the Universe,” stated Hurley-Walker, the lead author of the new report.

Few magnetars are known to exist below what scientists call a “death line" which means that they have a weak magnetic field which fails to release energetic emissions of radio waves.&nbsp;

“The object we’ve discovered is spinning way too slowly to produce radio waves — it’s below the death line,” Hurley-Walker stated.&nbsp;

“Assuming it’s a magnetar, it shouldn’t be possible for this object to produce radio waves. But we’re seeing them. And we’re not just talking about a little blip of radio emission. Every 22 minutes, it emits a five-minute pulse of radio wavelength energy, and it’s been doing that for at least 33 years. Whatever mechanism is behind this is extraordinary," he added.&nbsp;

Mysterious stellar object emitting a five-minute pulse every 22 minutes leaves scientists puzzled

A large mysterious object that was found on a remote West Australian beach - initially thought by many to be a rocket debris from India's recent moon mission Chandrayaan-3 - has now been moved to a secret location. The origins of this object still remain unknown, however, it is widely believed to be debris from a space vehicle. India's space agency ISRO had earlier denied that it had any links to the object.

The Australian Space Agency said the cylindrical golden-coloured object is most likely a solid rocket motor casing, The Guardian reported.

<h2>Discovery of 'space object' on Australian beach</h2>

The 2.5 metres-tall object was found near Green Head, some 250 kilometres north of Perth on Saturday.

Initial theories suggested that it could be a part of a downed airliner. Police had placed a guarded cordon around the object due to fears of a potential public health risk.

On Wednesday, in a statement, the Australian police said that "Contrary to speculation, there is no evidence to support the theory that the object is connected in any way to a commercial aircraft."

"After extensive consultation with state and national agencies with expertise in maritime, aviation, defence and space industries, it is believed the object is related to a rocket system," they added.

<h2>What is the object exactly?</h2>

Experts are still working to identify the origins of the mysterious object. Reportedly, the Australian Space Agency has now taken over the task of identifying the object's origins.

"Due to the initial assessment of the object indicating it was space industry related, and could potentially be space debris, additional precautions were taken to ensure the object posed no danger to the community," said a police spokesman.

The Space Agency has speculated that it might be part of a foreign space vehicle.

Taking to Twitter, the agency said: "We are currently making enquiries related to this object located on a beach near Jurien Bay in Western Australia."

While the debris has been confirmed as part of a rocket, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief, S Somanath, clarified that it cannot be definitively identified as Indian without further analysis. "We can't confirm it's ours unless we analyse it," S Somanath told BBC.

On Sunday, the local residents reported the huge copper-coloured cylinder to police after it washed up on a beach near Jurien Bay. The cylinder was leaning on one side and appeared to have gone through substantial damage. 
 
Western Australian police stated that they do not feel that the object was part of any commercial aircraft, however, they are unsure about its origins and have been treating it as hazardous. 
 
“We want to reassure the community that we are actively engaged in a collaborative effort with various state and federal agencies to determine the object’s origin and nature,” the police said in a statement.

The police have been carrying out a joint investigation into its origins, and the object is being guarded by the officers so as to maintain the investigation's integrity. “This measure has been taken to ensure the preservation of potential evidence and facilitate further expert examination,” they said. 
 
In the video shared on social media, the huge cylinder appears partly damaged and does not look similar to a regular aircraft. It appears the object has been detached from something and its bottom half appears like it was ripped from its origin. 
 
The speculations that the object had come from the vanished flight MH370, which had suddenly disappeared when it was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014, were immediately dismissed by the police.

<h2>A fallen part of Chandrayaan-3?</h2>

An Australian Space Agency spokesperson said that they were making enquiries related to the object. “The agency is working to confirm whether the object could be part of a foreign space launch vehicle that has washed up on shore, and liaising with global counterparts who may be able to provide information about the object,” the spokesperson said. 
 
“As the origin of the object is unknown, the community should avoid handling or attempting to move the object,” he added.

An expert in space archaeology Dr Alice Gorman, while speaking to The Guardian, said that she thinks the object is a fuel cylinder which has come from the third stage of India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket or Chandrayaan-3. “It’s surprising because it’s such a large fragment. And it makes you wonder what was going on at the time, if maybe a marine weather event dislodged it and brought it ashore,” she said. 
 
“It is very interesting though, and is a way regular everyday people can get close to space, as often these things turn into souvenirs. People like to keep some space junk,” the expert added.

A giant mysterious metal cylinder has left locals stumped after the debris appeared suddenly on the shoreline of WA's Midwest. In the video shared on social media, the huge cylinder appears partly damaged and does not look similar to a regular aircraft. It appears the object has been detached from something and its bottom half appears like it was ripped from its origin. The speculations that the object had come from the vanished flight MH370, which had suddenly disappeared when it was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014, were immediately dismissed by the police. An Australian Space Agency spokesperson said that they were making enquiries related to the object. “The agency is working to confirm whether the object could be part of a foreign space launch vehicle that has washed up on shore, and liaising with global counterparts who may be able to provide information about the object,” the spokesperson said. “As the origin of the object is unknown, the community should avoid handling or attempting to move the object,” he added. And it makes you wonder what was going on at the time, if maybe a marine weather event dislodged it and brought it ashore,” she said. “It is very interesting though, and is a way regular everyday people can get close to space, as often these things turn into souvenirs. Farhad Yusef-Zadeh from Northwestern University in the early 1980s identified colossal one-dimensional filaments vertically hanging near Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole residing at the centre of our galaxy.

Fast forward to the present day, and Yusef-Zadeh, an esteemed radio astronomer, along with his collaborators, has stumbled upon an entirely new population of threads.&nbsp;However, these threads differ from their vertical counterparts, being significantly shorter and arranged horizontally or radially, resembling spokes radiating outward from the black hole, like Morse code's dots and dashes.

<h2>Different Origins</h2>

Although the two sets of filaments share certain similarities, Yusef-Zadeh believes that they likely originate from different sources.&nbsp;While the vertical filaments sweep across the galaxy, towering as high as 150 light-years, the horizontal filaments punctuate only one side of Sagittarius A* and exhibit a pattern akin to Morse code.

Yusef-Zadeh expressed his astonishment, stating, "It was a surprise to suddenly find a new population of structures that seem to be pointing in the direction of the black hole."&nbsp;

"We had to do a lot of work to establish that we weren't fooling ourselves. And we found that these filaments are not random but appear to be tied to the outflow of our black hole. By studying them, we could learn more about the black hole's spin and accretion disk orientation. It is satisfying when one finds order in a middle of a chaotic field of the nucleus of our galaxy."

<h2>Horizontal dashes vs. Vertical dashes&nbsp;</h2>

After meticulously studying vertical filaments for decades, Yusef-Zadeh was taken aback upon uncovering their horizontal counterparts, estimated to be around six million years old.&nbsp;

"We have always been thinking about vertical filaments and their origin," he said. "I'm used to them being vertical. I never considered there might be others along the plane."

Vertical filaments stand perpendicular to the galactic plane, while horizontal filaments are parallel to the plane but radiate toward the galaxy's center, where the black hole resides. While vertical filaments possess magnetic and relativistic properties, horizontal filaments emit thermal radiation.
