<p>FRBs are extremely rare. Despite having the world's most sensitive radio, telescope and computing systems, it's challenging for astronomers to detect FRBs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ryan Shannon, an author of the latest study with Swinburne University of Technology, told Newsweek that FRBs "last only a small fraction of a second."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Most FRBs do not repeat, meaning if we want to understand what they are or where they come from, we need to be quick to respond and gather as much detail about them in the few thousandths of the second they pass by Earth," Shannon added.</p>

<p>In the latest study, the detected FRB, dubbed FRB 20220610A, is the most distinct and ancient recorded to date. The unusually high-energy FRB occurred around eight billion years ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the authors, the latest discovery gives new data about the distant universe and questions the present models of FRB emission.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Astronomers have only detected 50 FRBs to date. The low sample size makes it more challenging to study them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the source of FRBs remains a mystery. "While we still don't know what causes them, determining that will be a tall task. We are still able to use them as tools. FRBs have the signature of all of the gas they travel through. It makes them incredibly useful for probing the tenuous gas between galaxies," Shannon said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Some studies suggest that FRBs originate from magnetars, which are young, hyper-magnetized neutron stars. Neutron stars are dense stars that roughly have the same mass as the Earth's Sun. However, they are only the size of a small city with strong magnetic fields.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Australian SKA Pathfinder detected the most recent FRB on 10 June 2022. According to Shannon, FRB 20220610A emitted more energy in a few milliseconds than the sun does in 30 years. However, according to the latest findings, it broke the record for the most distant FRB by around 50 per cent, confirming that such phenomena occur in extremely distant galaxies.</p>

A radio signal took 8 billion years to reach Earth, but its source is a mystery

<p>Scientists believe that newly unearthed mysterious gold treasures in Norway can help find secrets of ancient society. By gold treasures, they mean tiny, detailed 1 cm wide gold foils that were recently discovered during excavations of a pagan religious temple in Hov, Norway.</p>

<p>So far, Norway has only 10 known sites where such foils have been found. In Hov, 35 such pieces have been found, the most for a single site in the country.</p>

<p>But over 3,000 similar foils have been found across Scandinavia, according to Ingunn Marit Røstad, an archaeologist and associate professor at the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo.</p>

<p>“They’re found in almost all of Scandinavia, but only in Scandinavia,” Røstad was quoted as saying by CNN. “You have the same images spread all over Scandinavia, so they must have meant something, the people must have known what they meant, and I think they must have been important to be handled in this way,” he added.</p>

<h2><strong>The purpose of these foils</strong></h2>

<p>The most recent documented artefacts have been discovered concealed beneath the structure's walls and within the post holes, suggesting intentional placement and leading researchers to consider them as potential offerings to the building.</p>

<p>“There are many different suggestions (as to the foils’ purpose),” Røstad said. “They must have been placed there intentionally, so I think it’s some form of sacrifice that has been done — probably in connection with some of the rituals that had been taking place inside of this pagan building, perhaps marriage rituals, since very many of these gold foils have pictures of couples on them,” he added.</p>

<p>31-year-old Gina Weiss and her 38-year-old friend Tobi were taking a walk in Blankenburg in the state of Saxony-Anhalt on Tuesday evening when they clicked the picture.</p>

<p>Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Weiss said, “When we reached the sand caves, we saw the wolf man. He stood up high on one of the caves and held a long wooden stick like a lance in his arm.”<br />

“He wouldn’t take his eyes off us, said nothing. He looked dirty like a Stone Age man from a history book,” he added. The pair stated that they had 10 minutes of encounter with the 'wolf man' who is believed to be in his 40s.<br />
<br />
This is not the first time they have spotted the supposed 'wolf man' in the Blankenburg region. Authorities stated that multiple reports have been submitted to them over the last half-decade of someone appearing in a wolf costume or wearing wolf fur in the forest.</p>

<h2><strong>Police receive calls for help</strong></h2>

<p>Head of Blackburn Fire Brigade Alexander Beck said, “Someone clearly knows how to live outside and adapt to the changing seasons.” In March, police had received calls from hikers saying, “Help, there’s a wolf man running around here.”<br />

The call was taken seriously by the fire brigade and the police and the area was searched around, however, they only found old fire sites.</p>

<p>As per a statement on the tourist attraction's official website, "Ain Dubai remains closed until further notice."</p>

<p>"We continue to rigorously work on completing the enhancement works that have been taking place over the past months," it adds.</p>

<p>However, employees at the numerous restaurants, shops and cafés built around the Dubai eye are sceptical about the turning of this Ferris wheel.</p>

<p>"Last year they promised us that in winter it will be open, even now, they are saying that in (the coming) winter it will be open again," said one employee while talking to AFP.</p>

<p>"But we're not sure... it will," he added while speaking on condition of anonymity.</p>

<h2><strong>Reason behind closure</strong></h2>

<p>AFP reports that for more than a month, the attraction has remained closed, with ticket booths abandoned. A slow trickle of tourists continue to visit the mega-wheel but only to click pictures of the LED lights mounted on the tourist attraction.</p>

<p>Marwan Mohammad, an Egyptian tourist told the news agency that he asked a security guard about the Ferris wheel but was told that "it doesn't work."</p>

<p>"This is a man-made island. I heard that (the wheel) is heavier than the island itself, that's why it is very dangerous," said a waiter, adding that during its few months of operation, it had been noisy.</p>

<p>"Now... it's only for show, just for the lighting and that's it".</p>

<p>It was built by a consortium of international companies and is located in Bluewaters — a man-made island that serves as a retail, residential and entertainment hub.</p>

Hanging in balance: World's tallest Ferris wheel shut over mysterious reasons

<p>A new type of stellar object has been discovered by astronomers which may change their understanding of extreme celestial bodies in the universe.</p>

<p>Earlier, a spinning celestial space object was spotted by Curtin University doctoral student Tyrone O’Doherty in March 2018. Giant bursts of energy were released by that unfamiliar object and it beamed out radiation at a frequency of three times per hour.</p>

<p>The phenomenon was thought to be a remnant of a collapsed star by the researchers. After a study was released that described the observation in January 2022, O’Doherty and a team of astronomers at the Curtin University node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, or ICRAR, in Australia started hunting for another such example.</p>

<p>While observing the sky, the scientists spotted an object in the Scutum constellation, 15,000 light-years from Earth. The object, which was named GPM J1839−10, releases radio waves every 22 minutes and the bursts of energy last till five minutes.</p>

<h2><strong>Rare type of magnetar?</strong></h2>

<p>Astronomers said that the object can be a rare type of star or magnetar which has extremely strong magnetic fields and is capable of releasing energetic and powerful bursts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A study which gave details about the discovery was published in the journal Nature on Wednesday.</p>

<p>“This remarkable object challenges our understanding of neutron stars and magnetars, which are some of the most exotic and extreme objects in the Universe,” stated Hurley-Walker, the lead author of the new report.</p>

<p>A large mysterious object that was found on a remote West Australian beach - initially thought by many to be a rocket debris from India's recent moon mission Chandrayaan-3 - has now been moved to a secret location. The origins of this object still remain unknown, however, it is widely believed to be debris from a space vehicle. <h2><strong>Discovery of 'space object' on Australian beach</strong></h2>

<p>The 2.5 metres-tall object was found near Green Head, some 250 kilometres north of Perth on Saturday.</p>

<p>Initial theories suggested that it could be a part of a downed airliner. Police had placed a guarded cordon around the object due to fears of a potential public health risk.</p>

<p>"After extensive consultation with state and national agencies with expertise in maritime, aviation, defence and space industries, it is believed the object is related to a rocket system," they added.</p>

<h2><strong>What is the object exactly?</strong></h2>

<p>Experts are still working to identify the origins of the mysterious object. Reportedly, the Australian Space Agency has now taken over the task of identifying the object's origins.</p>

<p>"Due to the initial assessment of the object indicating it was space industry related, and could potentially be space debris, additional precautions were taken to ensure the object posed no danger to the community," said a police spokesman.</p>

<p>A groundbreaking discovery has emerged from the heart of the Milky Way where an international team of astrophysicists stumbled upon an entirely new population of threads at the centre of this massive galaxy, as per a study.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Farhad Yusef-Zadeh from Northwestern University in the early 1980s identified colossal one-dimensional filaments vertically hanging near Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole residing at the centre of our galaxy.</p>

<p>Fast forward to the present day, and Yusef-Zadeh, an esteemed radio astronomer, along with his collaborators, has stumbled upon an entirely new population of threads.&nbsp;However, these threads differ from their vertical counterparts, being significantly shorter and arranged horizontally or radially, resembling spokes radiating outward from the black hole, like Morse code's dots and dashes.</p>

<h2><strong>Different Origins</strong></h2>

<p>Although the two sets of filaments share certain similarities, Yusef-Zadeh believes that they likely originate from different sources.&nbsp;While the vertical filaments sweep across the galaxy, towering as high as 150 light-years, the horizontal filaments punctuate only one side of Sagittarius A* and exhibit a pattern akin to Morse code.</p>

<p>Yusef-Zadeh expressed his astonishment, stating, "It was a surprise to suddenly find a new population of structures that seem to be pointing in the direction of the black hole."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We had to do a lot of work to establish that we weren't fooling ourselves. And we found that these filaments are not random but appear to be tied to the outflow of our black hole. By studying them, we could learn more about the black hole's spin and accretion disk orientation. It is satisfying when one finds order in a middle of a chaotic field of the nucleus of our galaxy."</p>

<h2><strong>Horizontal dashes vs. Vertical dashes&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>After meticulously studying vertical filaments for decades, Yusef-Zadeh was taken aback upon uncovering their horizontal counterparts, estimated to be around six million years old.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We have always been thinking about vertical filaments and their origin," he said. "I'm used to them being vertical. I never considered there might be others along the plane."</p>

<p>Vertical filaments stand perpendicular to the galactic plane, while horizontal filaments are parallel to the plane but radiate toward the galaxy's center, where the black hole resides. While vertical filaments possess magnetic and relativistic properties, horizontal filaments emit thermal radiation.</p>

And we found that these filaments are not random but appear to be tied to the outflow of our black hole. <p>Scientists have detected a “strange” sound of “completely unknown origin” from Earther’s upper atmosphere —the stratosphere.</p>

<p>The sound was recorded by large 6-7-metre-long solar balloons carrying a microphone that was sent by a team of researchers from Sandia National Laboratories, US.</p>

<p>The stratosphere region— found around 31 miles (50 km) above the planet—is relatively calm and free of storms, turbulence and commercial air traffic.</p>

<p>But the scientists were left baffled when they heard through the microphone mysterious sounds that are said to have been repeated a few times per hour.</p>

<p>The sounds recorded were in the infrasound range, which is at the frequency range of 20 hertz (Hz) and lower, and well below the range of the human ears. The source is yet to be identified.</p>

<p>"There are mysterious infrasound signals that occur a few times per hour on some flights, but the source of these is completely unknown," Daniel Bowman of Sandia National Laboratories said in a statement.</p>

<p>The research team used a sound gathering device called microbarometers that are capable of detecting detect low-frequency sounds. It was initially designed to monitor volcanoes.</p>

<p>These sensors were carried aloft by balloons that the researchers built from common and inexpensive materials.</p>

<p>These solar balloons are powered by sunlight and have the capability to climb to altitudes of around 70,000 feet (13.3 miles) over Earth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the launch, the balloons were tracked using GPS, because they can often fly for hundreds of kilometres and may land in difficult terrains of the planet posing a challenge to locate it.</p>

<p>"Our balloons are basically giant plastic bags with some charcoal dust on the inside to make them dark," Bowman was quoted as saying by the CNN.</p>

<p>"We build them using painter's plastic from the hardware store, shipping tape, and charcoal powder from pyrotechnic supply stores. When the sun shines on the dark balloons, the air inside heats up and becomes buoyant."</p>

<p>Though the solar balloons offer greater access to record noise levels at lower frequency ranges since the whole Earth is accessible, they also present challenges for researchers. The stratosphere is a harsh environment with wild temperature fluctuations between heat and cold.</p>

<p>“Solar balloons are a bit sluggish, and we’ve wrecked a few on bushes when trying to launch them,” Bowman said.</p>

<p>“We’ve had to hike down into canyons and across mountains to get our payloads. Once, our Oklahoma State colleagues actually had a balloon land in a field, spend the night, and launch itself back in the air to fly another whole day!”</p>

Mysteries of the ocean: Iridescent 'Elvis' worms that shimmer found thousands of feet underwater

<p>More than 1,000 probable cases of unknown severe acute hepatitis have been detected in children and as many as 22 have died since the disease was discovered in on April 5, the World Health Organisation has said "As of 8 July 2022, 35 countries in five WHO Regions have reported 1010 probable cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown aetiology in children, which fulfill the WHO case definition, including 22 deaths. Since the previous Disease Outbreak News published on 24 June 2022, 90 new probable cases and four additional deaths have been reported to WHO,” the UN health agency said in its update on Wednesday. “Additionally, two new countries, Luxembourg and Costa Rica, have reported probable cases."</p>

<p>Out of those five regions, almost half, i.e., 48 per cent of the probable cases have been reported from the European countries, in which 21 countries have registered 484 cases, the WHO said. Of those, UK and Northern Ireland combined have found 272 cases.</p>

<p>The second highest number of probable cases have been reported from the American continent, including 334 cases from the United States of America, followed by the Western Pacific Region (70 cases), the South-East Asia region (19) and the Eastern Mediterranean region (2).</p>

<p>Seventeen countries are reporting more than five probable cases, with the WHO suspecting it to be a case of undercounting due to limited enhanced surveillance systems.</p>

<p>“The actual number of cases may be underestimated, in part due to the limited enhanced surveillance systems in place. The case count is expected to change as more information and verified data become available,” the agency said.</p>

<p>It said that it is closely monitoring the unexplained spread of hepatitis in previously healthy children, of which almost dozens are in need of life-saving liver transplants.</p>

<p>While analysing the laboratory tests, WHO said that hepatitis A to E had not been present in the affected children. Other pathogens such as the coronavirus were detected in a number of cases, but the data is incomplete, the UN health agency said.</p>

<p>“At the moment, we suspect the cases as acute hepatitis, but we need to confirm that they are not due to known hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D, and Rb,” Tarmizi said. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The health ministry is also investigating the cause of the disease by carrying out several virus tests, she added. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The parents have been asked by the ministry to head to hospital immediately if a&nbsp;child shows any of these symptoms. &nbsp;</p>
