<p>According to Indian media reports, a mob of nearly 200 men on motorbikes and SUVs vandalised at least a dozen&nbsp;shops&nbsp;in Badshahpur around 40 kilometres away and hours after the clashes in Nuh. The incident reportedly took place at 4:00 pm (local time) in the city’s main market where shops, mostly restaurants, meat shops, and roadside food stalls were targeted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least four&nbsp;shops were set on fire in Sector 66 and no one was reported to be injured. A fire brigade team reached the spot and controlled the blaze, reported news agency PTI. The Badshahpur market was also shut down, said the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Gurugram deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav, on Tuesday described the situation as “normal,” and told ANI, “There was some spill-over impact in Sohna of whatever happened in Nuh yesterday, however, the situation was brought under control by evening.”&nbsp;<br />

He added, "Sohna was our main focus area, peace committee meeting has taken place there, normalcy restored and markets have opened. We have conducted a flag march as well...in Gurugram one death was reported in Sector 57 mosque, 5 vehicles were torched in Sohna and 2-3 shops were vandalised."</p>

<p>After the police arrived at the site where the violence was reported, some rioters managed to flee on their bikes and other vehicles, said the officials. However, some suspects have been detained, the officials added. The police also refuted the reports of some shanties being set on fire in Kadarpur road.&nbsp;<br />

<strong>Schools and&nbsp;colleges in Gurugram to remain closed</strong></p>

<p>The recent violence has also prompted the officials to close schools and colleges in the town of&nbsp;Sohna.&nbsp;Gurugram District Magistrate office released a statement and said that considering the current situation and "communal tension in the neighbouring district of Nuh, which has led to the blockage of roads by anti-social elements in bordering parts of District Gurugram, particularly sohna. Such actions may disrupt peace, tranquility, and public order in the region."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In order to avoid any untoward incident and ensure the safety of the students, it is deemed necessary to close all&nbsp;government and private educational institutions" on August 2 in&nbsp;Sohna sub-division of District Gurugram, the statement added.&nbsp;<br />

<strong>Sale of loose&nbsp;petrol and diesel&nbsp;'strictly prohibited'</strong><br />

<p>Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar condemned the incident and assured&nbsp;strict action against the people responsible for the violence. According to the administration, 44 FIRs have been registered so far, in which more than 70 people have been arrested, as of Tuesday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least five security personnel have been injured after a mob surrounded the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma’s office, late Monday (July 24). This comes after chaos erupted outside the CM office where hundreds had gathered demanding the creation of a winter capital for the northeastern state.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>About the violence</strong></h2>

<p>The CM was reported to be unharmed while the mob continued to surround his office complex, located in the state’s Tura. Sangma was taken indoors as the protesters blocked the roads and posed a security threat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Subsequently, the protesters began pelting stones, some of which hit the CM office’s windows. In turn, the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. “At least five police personnel were injured when the crowd attacked the CM’s secretariat at Tura in the evening today,” the CM secretariat told news agency PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The situation is under control but tense, said the CM’s office. Section 144 was imposed in Tura town with immediate effect. The Meghalaya CM also announced Rs 50,000 ($611) as ex-gratia payment for injured personnel and said that their medical expenses will be borne by the state government.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What preceded the protest?</strong></h2>

<p>According to the police, protesters were ostensibly seeking winter capital before a large number of outsiders entered the crowd gathered and began throwing stones at the office. There were also reports of tyres being burnt in several places across the town.</p>

<p>Prior to the violence, the Meghalaya CM was in the midst of holding a key meeting with the representatives of protesting civil bodies – Achik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) and the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The groups, which were invited by Sangma for talks, had been on a hunger strike and had demanded that Tura be declared the winter capital of the state. According to officials, CM had engaged in “peaceful discussion with agitating organisations for over 3 hours at Tura” during the day, reported PTI.&nbsp;</p>

This comes after chaos erupted outside the CM office where hundreds had gathered demanding the creation of a winter capital for the northeastern state. About the violence The CM was reported to be unharmed while the mob continued to surround his office complex, located in the state’s Tura. Sangma was taken indoors as the protesters blocked the roads and posed a security threat. Subsequently, the protesters began pelting stones, some of which hit the CM office’s windows. In turn, the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. “At least five police personnel were injured when the crowd attacked the CM’s secretariat at Tura in the evening today,” the CM secretariat told news agency PTI. The situation is under control but tense, said the CM’s office. Section 144 was imposed in Tura town with immediate effect. In order to facilitate a smooth transition, the president indicated his agreement with the choice and announced he would step down on Wednesday.</p>

<p>Speaker Abeywardena urged restraint while pointing out that Prime Minister Wickremesinghe's private mansion in Colombo had been set on fire by a group of people.</p>

<p>A frenzied mob in Pakistan tortured a Sri Lankan man to death and then burnt his&nbsp;body in public allegedly over blasphemy accusations, according to local media reports.</p>

<p>The incident took place on Wazirabad Road in Sialkot on Friday, where reportedly the workers of private factories attacked the export manager, a Sri Lankan national, of a factory and burnt his body after killing him, the Dawn reported.</p>

<p>Sialkot district police officer Umar Saeed Malik said the man was identified as Priyantha Kumara, who was in his 40s.</p>

<p>According to reports, Kumara tore up a poster&nbsp;of the hardline Islamist party, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP)&nbsp;in which Quranic verses were inscribed and threw it in the dustbin.</p>

<p>"The poster of the Islamist party was pasted on the wall adjoining the office of Kumara. A couple of factory workers saw him removing the poster and spread the word in the factory," news agency PTI quoted a Pakistan&nbsp;Punjab police official as saying.</p>

<p>Hundreds of men, enraged over the "blasphemy"&nbsp;incident, started gathering outside the factory from adjoining areas. Most of them were activists and supporters of the TLP.</p>

<p>"The mob dragged the suspect (the Sri Lankan national) from the factory and severely tortured him. After he succumbed to his wounds, the mob burnt his body before police reached there," the official said.</p>

<p>Several videos were circulated on social media showing hundreds of men gathered at the site surrounding the body of the Sri Lankan national. They were chanting slogans of the TLP.</p>

<p>The Imran Khan government had recently lifted a ban on the TLP after signing a secret agreement with it after which its chief Saad Rizvi and over 1,500 activists accused of terrorism were released from jail.</p>

<p>The TLP in return had ended its week-long sit-in in Punjab after withdrawing its demand of expelling the French ambassador on the issue of blasphemous cartoons in France.</p>

<p>Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar termed it as a "very tragic incident", while the spokesperson for Sialkot police said details would be shared with the media after the&nbsp;initial investigation.</p>

<p>"Every aspect of the incident should be investigated and a report should be submitted. Action should be taken against those who take the law into their own hands," the chief minister said.</p>

<p>Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan also took notice of the incident and directed the Gujranwala regional police officer to reach the location immediately.</p>

<p>"The Sialkot DPO is present on the spot. All aspects of the incident should be investigated," the IGP said.</p>

<p>The horrific act drew a sharp reaction from the international human rights, NGO Amnesty International's South Asia, saying it is "deeply alarmed by the disturbing lynching and killing" of the Sri Lankan over a blasphemy accusation."</p>

Police chief in UP's Bulandshahr removed after mob violence

<p>Voice of Karachi chairman Nadeem Nusrat on Saturday said that Pakistan's control is fast slipping into the hands of religious extremist groups, adding that mob violence witnessed after the Supreme Court's acquittal of Asiya Bibi has further tarnished Pakistan's "already-maligned image" globally.</p>

<p>Nusrat also commended the decision of the Pakistani Supreme Court to revoke the death sentence awarded to Asiya Bibi and termed it courageous. He also stated that blasphemy law in the region has been widely abused and is consistently used against the country's poor religious minorities, Asiya Bibi being one of the victims of the same.</p>

<p>He also asserted that the events following the Supreme Court's verdict posed serious questions about Pakistani military establishment's desire to combat extremist forces.</p>

<p>Highlighting the details of the violence that ensued in the wake of the top court verdict, Nusrat said, "mobs of violent vigilantes came on the streets soon after the news broke out and set off hundreds of vehicles, shops and other private and government properties on fire. Open death threats to judges were issued publicly and soldiers of Pakistan army were asked to take up arms and kill their officers. Despite this open display of lawlessness and calls for more violence, the Pakistani military, which spares no effort in crushing peaceful protests by ethnic Mohajirs, Balochs and Pashtuns, failed to take any action against these militants."</p>

<p>He also claimed that the clerics who previously staged an illegal sit-in in Islamabad were responsible for the current wave of violence and asserted that not only was the lawless crowd allowed to continue the sit-in for weeks, but Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officials handed out cash to participants to go back after their demands were met.</p>

<p>Nusrat asserted that Pakistan's military agencies supporting religious proxies is a matter of public knowledge and similarly the groups involved in the latest spate of violence have also enjoyed full support from the same agencies. He blamed the establishment's overt and covert support for not pressing charges against 'foul-mouthed, venom spewing clerics'.</p>

<p>He went on to caution that Pakistan's control is fast slipping into the hands of religious extremists who, he claimed, enjoy support from powerful elements within Pakistan's military establishment. "This is a dangerous situation for world peace in general and peace in South Asia in particular, as Pakistan is a nuclear-armed country. The world must pay attention to this growing threat before it gets completely out of hand."</p>

<p>Echoing the stance of the United States Commission for International Religious Freedoms, Nusrat demanded Pakistani authorities to repeal the current controversial blasphemy laws.</p>

<p>"No one should be allowed to abuse any religious personality or religious sentiments and beliefs of any group of people, but blasphemy laws in Pakistan have been widely abused and have been used to unfairly target the country's poor religious minorities. This abhorrent practice must come to an end now," he said in a written statement.</p>

<p>Nusrat also raised a demand for fool-proof protection to the Supreme Court judges who revoked the death sentence of Asiya Bibi.</p>
