<p>"One says he (PM Modi) is the God of the gods... one leader says Lord Jagannath is his devotee... if he is God, then God should not do politics. God should not instigate riots. We will build a temple for him and worship him there, offer prasad, flowers and if he wishes, we will also offer him dhokla," the Trinamool Congress chief said while addressing a rally in Kolkata.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The West Bengal chief minister also accused PM Modi of not being truthful about the Centre's role in monitoring cyclone Remal and rescue efforts. She claimed that it was her government which took measures to save the lives of people from the cyclone that hit the state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We shifted nearly 46 lakh people (to safer places) and saved their lives," Banerjee said while addressing an election rally at Behala in Kolkata.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sandeshkhali, a village in North 24 Parganas district, grabbed headlines earlier this year when its residents, mostly women, took to the streets to protest against the ruling TMC and Shahjahan, the main accused in the incident.</p>

<p>"I want to give five guarantees to the people of Bengal: - Nobody can give reservations based on religion. Reservations for SC, ST, and OBC will not be touched. Nobody can stop you from celebrating Ram Navami. The judgement of the Supreme Court on Ram Mandir will not be quashed. Nobody can stop the implementation of CAA," PM Modi said.</p>

<p>The Indian prime minister further lashed out at the opposition stating that they had projected the CAA as if it was a "villain".</p>

<p>"A law like CAA, which protects humanity, but opposition made it a villain. CAA is a law to give citizenship to the victims, it does not take away anyone's citizenship. But parties like Congress-TMC painted it with the colour of their lies for vote bank politics," he said.</p>

Modi kahta hai har ghar jal, TMC kahti hai, har ghar bomb'. Just a few days ago, a bomb exploded, snatching away children's lives. Life has become difficult for mothers, sisters, and daughters here. Today BJP is emphasising 'Make in India', but TMC is raising the slogan of 'Break in India'. TMC is dividing the society, TMC is breaking the law, TMC is breaking the unity," PM Modi said.</p>

<p>He said that the goons of the party were threatening the women of Sandeshkhali referring to the infamous incident.</p>

<p>"Goons of TMC are threatening the women of Sandeshkhali only because the culprit's name is Shahjahan Sheikh. They are trying their best to save and protect him from legal action. Don't be afraid of TMC. You must give your full mandate to our candidate; each vote will reach me. Viksit Bengal is crucial for Viksit Bharat," the PM said.</p>

<p>In a latest development,&nbsp;TMC has filed a formal complaint with the state's chief electoral officer.&nbsp;The party alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conspired in the raids during the second phase of the Lok Sabha Election.&nbsp;</p>

<p>CBI on Friday recovered a&nbsp;huge&nbsp;cache of arms and explosives, including foreign-made revolvers, Indian revolvers, foreign-made pistols and ammunition, in Sandeshkhali and called in the NSG bomb squad for their disposal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>TMC also accused the West Bengal Election Commission&nbsp;of turning a "blind eye" on the actions of&nbsp;the central agencies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In its letter to West Bengal&nbsp;Chief Electoral Officer, TMC wrote, "In this regard, it&nbsp;is stated&nbsp;that though 'law and order' is a domain falling completely within the ambit of the State Government, the CBI did not issue an actionable notice to the State Government&nbsp;and/or&nbsp;the police authorities before carrying out such a raid."&nbsp;</p>

<p>West Bengal Chief Minister and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday (Apr 12) hit out at the BJP after the leader of the saffron party,&nbsp;Amit Malviya, called the eastern state a "safe haven" for terrorists.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) nabbed two key suspects in connection with the Bengaluru Rameshwaram cafe blast.</p>

<p>The detainees include Mussavir Hussain Shazeb, the man who placed the IED at the cafe, and Abdul Matheen Taha, the 'mastermind' behind the explosion.</p>

Mamata slams BJP over 'safe haven for terrorists' remark after NIA nabs Bengaluru blast accused from Kolkata

<p>Police in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal booked officials of the federal National Investigation Agency (NIA) under charges of molestation after they were attacked in East Medinipur on Saturday (Apr 6) during the raid and investigation of a 2022 blast.</p>

<p>NIA officers were charged under sections 354 (molestation) and 441 (trespassing) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bhupatinagar police station of East Medinipur. The FIR was filed following complaints by family members of the arrested accused and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker Manabroto Jana. TMC is currently in power in West Bengal, led by the CM Mamata Banerjee.</p>

<p>As per the complaint, NIA officials molested women by breaking the doors of their houses late at night.</p>

<p>Earlier, the NIA also filed a case at Bhupatinagar police station in relation to the attack on them by locals. No one has been arrested in the case so far.</p>

<h2><strong>NIA refutes allegations</strong></h2>

<p>Following the accusations, the NIA team refuted claims and asserted that the attack was "unprovoked." The agency, in a statement on Sunday (Apr 8) said, “NIA made it clear that its actions were bona fide, lawful and legally mandated, as part of its ongoing investigation into the heinous crime related to the fabrication of crude bombs… NIA has reiterated that its team had come under violent attack by an unruly mob when they had gone to conduct searches in Naruabila village on Saturday in connection with its probe in said case.”</p>

<h2><strong>Its an attack on the Indian Constitution, says BJP</strong></h2>

<p>The NIA team was attacked after they arrested two TMC workers in connection with the December 3, 2022 blast which killed three people. Balai Maiti and Manobrata Jana were picked up by the federal agency for investigation. However, their vehicles were soon attacked, resulting in minor injuries to at least two NIA officers.</p>

<p>The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the West Bengal government for the attack, calling it an attack on the Indian Constitution.</p>

<p>“Attacking a Central agency means attacking the Indian Constitution. Booking NIA officials under molestation charges for performing their duties is an indication of the collapse of all constitutional bodies. They have launched a war against the Indian Constitution,” said BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya.</p>

<p>Opposition party CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty also criticised the Mamata administration for filing cases against NIA officials.</p>

<p>“The State government is provoking. The NIA attacked, but the police didn’t arrest anyone involved in that incident. Rather they have booked NIA officials. It is so unfortunate. What do you expect when the CM herself is sending a message that the central agency cannot act against them,” said Chakraborty.</p>

<h2><strong>Reaction by West Bengal CM</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the NIA's actions and alleged that the central agencies are biased towards the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).</p>

Banerjee was admitted at&nbsp;Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital, colloquially known as P.G. Hospital, in West Bengal capital Kolkata. Hours later on March 14, Banerjee was seen coming out of the hospital premises in a vehicle.</p>

<p>Dr Manimoy Bandopadhyay, director of SSKM Hospital, said in an official statement: "Chief Minister of West Bengal reported to our hospital today around 07:30 pm with a history of fall within the vicinity of her home due to some push from behind."</p>

<p>"She had a cerebral concussion and had a sharp cut over her forehead and nose which was bleeding profusely. Initially, she was assessed by HoD neurosurgery, HoD medicine and the cardiologist of our institute and is vital so had stabilized. Three stitches were applied on the forehead and one on the nose and the required dressing was done. Investigations like ECG, CT scan, etc were done. Medical personnel have provided their opinion in these regards. She was advised to remain admitted for observation, but she preferred to go home. She will continue to be under close watch and will continue to have the treatment as per the advice of the team of doctors. She will again be assessed tomorrow and subsequent treatment will be decided accordingly...," Dr Bandopadhyay added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On hearing about the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X and said,&nbsp;"I&nbsp;pray for a quick recovery and the best health for Mamata Didi."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among noteworthy candidates, Mahua Moitra will fight from Krishnanagar, Saayoni Ghosh from Jadavpur, Gopal Lamba from Darjeeling, Abhishek Banerjee from Diamond Harbour, and actor Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol.</p>

<p>In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC had secured 22 seats, a decrease from its previous count in 2014. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of the NDA alliance had made significant gains, capturing 18 seats. While the Congress at the time only managed to secure two seats.</p>

<p>As West Bengal gears up for the elections with 42 parliamentary constituencies in the state, TMC attempted a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress as part of the Opposition's INDIA bloc but failed.</p>

<p>As recently as Sunday (Mar 10), the West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee declared that there would be no seat adjustments with Congress in the state.</p>

<p>The 67-year-old further expressed gratitude for opposition party leaders who reached out to him during the raids. "Fifty-two days have passed since the raids, yet I haven’t received a single phone call from the supreme leader (Mamata Banerjee) offering her reassurance,” he further said.</p>

<p>Roy resigned despite TMC leaders rushing to his residence on Monday morning in their last-ditch effort to pacify and dissuade him from carrying out his decision to resign, PTI reported.</p>

<p>The TMC dismissed Roy's allegations as baseless, and said that the 67-year-old was exerting “undue pressure for a ticket” from the North Kolkata seat for the upcoming elections.</p>

<p>“For quite some time, Roy was making baseless allegations against party leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay. He was trying to exert pressure by using several undue means. <p>Notably, Adhikari's visit was confirmed after the Calcutta High Court on Monday gave him the pass whilst ordering him to not make any "provocative speeches" or indulge in "any unlawful activities".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I have a court order. Even then, you are stopping me. This is unfortunate. I will wait for an hour. Then I will return to Kolkata and draw the high court's attention to this. The Mamata Banerjee government and its police are not abiding by the Calcutta High Court's order," he said.</p>

<h2><strong>War of words intensifies&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The war of words has also intensified between BJP over the allegations of 'systemic gang rape' and sexual exploitation of women by the ruling party's leaders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While TMC head and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of stirring trouble in the region, the saffron party's Locket Chatterjee stated that Banerjee remained silent while women were being tortured under her administration.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Right now you are not able to understand the situation of Sandeshkhali. We have heard of Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan and their atrocities on women, today the same thing is happening in West Bengal, and Mamata Bannerjee is silent. What is she saying? <p>Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma talked to some of the women who have accused TMC leaders of sexual assault. After the conversations, Sharma said the state of West bengal should be under the president's rule.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Many women at Sandeshkhali were molested. I heard about two rapes. One rape case was filed today. Nothing will happen in West Bengal unless there is President’s rule,” Sharma told reporters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Where is the chief minister? She should resign and come here as a woman to understand the pain of these people," she added, targeting the CM.&nbsp;</p>

Sandeshkhali sex abuse row: BJP's Suvendu Adhikari stopped from visiting troubled town despite court order

<p>Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Indian state of West Bengal, got injured in a car accident and sustained an injury to her head. She was returning to West Bengal's capital Kolkata from an official engagement in Burdwan district of West Bengal. Multiple reports, some citing official sources, said that the chief minister was sitting in the front seat beside the driver and hit her head on the windscreen. Initial updates said that she would receive medical attention on her return to Kolkata.</p>

<p>She has sustained minor injuries.</p>

<p>Mamata Banerjee had gone to Burdwan district to chair a meeting about an administrative review.</p>

<p>Press Trust of India has reported that the car she was travelling in had to suddenly halt in order to avoid collision with another vehicle.</p>

<p>News agency Asian News International (ANI) reported that a car suddenly came in front of the chief minister's car.</p>

<p>According to police, Banerjee had gone to Burdwan by a helicopter but had to take roadway on her return journey as adverse weather forced her to cancel travel by helicopter.&nbsp;</p>

Initial updates said that she would receive medical attention on her return to Kolkata. She has sustained minor injuries. Mamata Banerjee had gone to Burdwan district to chair a meeting about an administrative review. Press Trust of India has reported that the car she was travelling in had to suddenly halt in order to avoid collision with another vehicle. News agency Asian News International (ANI) reported that a car suddenly came in front of the chief minister's car. According to police, Banerjee had gone to Burdwan by a helicopter but had to take roadway on her return journey as adverse weather forced her to cancel travel by helicopter. I am not concerned about what will be done in the (rest of the) country... but we are a secular party and, in Bengal, we alone will defeat BJP."</p>

<p>Speaking over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's ongoing yatra, the TMC leader said,&nbsp;"They are coming to my state... but did not have the courtesy to inform me, even though I am part of the INDIA bloc. So there is no relation with me, as far as Bengal is concerned."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Congress General Secretary in-charge&nbsp;Communications, Jairam Ramesh said, "TMC is a pillar of the INDIA alliance. We cannot imagine the INDIA alliance without Mamata ji. Tomorrow our Yatra is entering West Bengal. Discussions regarding seat sharing are being done and a result will come soon that will keep everyone satisfied..."</p>

<p>INDIA bloc members joined their hands to oust the prime minister-led BJP government from the Centre. However, the TMC leader while speaking about West Bengal's regional politics said,&nbsp;"INDIA will be present in India (but) in Bengal the Trinamool Congress will fight. In Bengal, it is only Trinamool that can teach the BJP a lesson. It can show the country the path to victory..."&nbsp;</p>
