Anurag Basu's latest film 'Ludo' which is slated to release on Netflix on November 12 is also an anthology with four distinct tracks bound by a common theme. Bollywood though isn't alien to this idea. Here 5 Indian anthology films that should be on everyone's watch list.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Bombay Talkies (2013): </strong>We all have fresh memories of a bunch of Bollywood stars dancing to the title song called the 'Bombay Talkies' as a tribute to 100 years of Indian cinema. This anthology was much more than that for it featured four fabulous film-makers in the form of Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee narrating wonderful stories related to cinema. The stories explored extra-marital relationships, stardom and the craze behind a film star in a never-seen-before avatar. Starring Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ranvir Shorey, Vineet Kumar Singh and Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance across these four films, each one of them left a smile on your face making you fall in love with cinema all over again.</p>

The stand out short films in this list are 'Rice Plate', that sees veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah bring their A-game on display, 'Gubbare' - a heartfelt tale that sees Nana Patekar pack a punch like always and 'Rise &amp; Fall' - a gangster tale at its best. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Putham Pudhu Kaalai (2020): </strong>Shooting a film during the lockdown was certainly no easy task. Doing an anthology in that time surely deserves a mention in this list. <p>Meanwhile, Hungarian actor Marina Gera bagged the award for the Best Performance by an Actress at the 47th International Emmy Awards, beating Radhika Apte.<br />

`The Remix`, which was India`s entry in the Non-Scripted Entertainment category, also got defeated by UK`s `The Real Full Monty: Ladies` Night`.<br />

The award for the best performance by an actor has been won by Haluk Bilginer of Turkey`s `Sahsiyet (Persona)`. Brazil`s `Hack in the City` bagged the trophy for the short-form series. At the extravagant event, the team of `Lust Stories` graced the red carpet with all the four directors of the flick, namely Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee marking their presence.<br />

The star-studded event is being hosted by `Daily Show` correspondent and `Crazy Rich Asians` actor Ronny Chieng at the New York Hilton Hotel in Manhattan.&nbsp;</p>

A poignant film on love and loss, the film was a favourite in almost every international film festival but was not really a commercial success back home. It was critically lauded for sure, but one would have never thought that its male lead- a tall, unconventional looking, the lanky boy would become the nation's favourite actor, three years down the line.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The man, who started with art-house cinema, made a transition to more commercial space this year with two big-budget films- 'Sanju' and 'Manmarziyaan'- but also balanced it out with two digital, small-budget films- 'Love Per Square Foot' and 'Lust Stories'. Each of the films had him playing strikingly different characters but Kaushal aced in almost all of them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ranbir Kapoor may have won the maximum accolades for <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-sanju-review-ranbir-kapoor-and-vicky-kaushal-shine-in-hiranis-version-of-dutts-story-147872">Rajkumar Hirani's flawed biopic 'Sanju',</a> but if there's one person who stood out amid a crowd of very well-known faces, it was Kaushal whose performance as the socially awkward Kamlesh or Kamli struck a chord with one and all.&nbsp;<br />

Kaushal's role was not the main lead. Hirani's 'Sanju' was primarily a father-son story but Kaushal's sheer talent and his on-screen camaraderie with Ranbir made the film also a story of two friends. &nbsp;Kamli's as a character could have easily been forgotten as just one of the supporting acts in the film. But Kaushal managed to shine and make people sit up and notice his character of a friendly Gujarati businessman in the US who befriended Sanju as he and his family were grappling with the sudden demise of Nargis Dutt. &nbsp;Kaushal's performance left such an impact that it got people curious about the actual person on whom the character was based.&nbsp;</p>

<p>'Sanju' was not the first time this year that Kaushal impressed critics and fans alike with his performance. His last release before 'Sanju' was in Karan Johar's &nbsp;story on Netflix' production 'Lust Stories.' A film primarily about women and their sexual desires, Kaushal's buffoonery struck a chord with one and all. Kaushal played an ignorant husband whose pleasure in bed comes literally in five thrusts much to his wife's (Kiara Advani) dismay. &nbsp;Kaushal's role was an unconventional one. A role that perhaps a lot of actors would be apprehensive to play as it did not glorify his machismo, instead poked fun at his inadequacies in bed. Each of the characters was strikingly different but Kaushal was convincing in all these parts. <p>Vicky of 'Manmarziyaan' was a complex character. A man-child who just understood one word- Rumi, the girl he loved. He lacked ambition, he lacked any kind of vision, did not have a plan and yet was somehow extremely endearing. <p>Kaushal first appeared in a small role in 'Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana' but it was his performance as the lovelorn Deepak in 'Masaan' that made people sit up and take notice of him. Your heart went out for him as he cried his heart out after cremating his girlfriend. His second film, 'Zubaan', had him playing a conflicted person who finds solace in music. And while the 'Masaan' and 'Zubaan' presented a softer side of the actor, Anurag Kashyap's 'Raman Raghav 2.0' had Kaushal playing a strikingly different role as the antagonist. His character was dark, evil and someone you would easily like to hate. And the actor aced it making Raghav one of the darkest characters that Bollywood has seen in recent times.&nbsp;</p>

Kaushal's performance left such an impact that it got people curious about the actual person on whom the character was based. 'Sanju' was not the first time this year that Kaushal impressed critics and fans alike with his performance. His last release before 'Sanju' was in Karan Johar's story on Netflix' production 'Lust Stories.' A film primarily about women and their sexual desires, Kaushal's buffoonery struck a chord with one and all. Kaushal played an ignorant husband whose pleasure in bed comes literally in five thrusts much to his wife's (Kiara Advani) dismay. Kaushal's role was an unconventional one. A role that perhaps a lot of actors would be apprehensive to play as it did not glorify his machismo, instead poked fun at his inadequacies in bed. Of the five films that the actor was seen in this year, in three, Kaushal did not play the central character- yet managed to leave a lasting impression in each of these films. Each of the characters was strikingly different but Kaushal was convincing in all these parts. Be it as the supportive husband whose world comes crashing as he finds out his wife is a spy in 'Raazi', or the ambitious guy craving to own a space of his own in the ever-growing city of Mumbai in 'Love Per Square Foot' or even as the commitment-phobic, undecided Vicky in Anurag Kashyap's 'Manmarziyaan', Kaushal made each of the characters his own. Vicky of 'Manmarziyaan' was a complex character. A man-child who just understood one word- Rumi, the girl he loved. He lacked ambition, he lacked any kind of vision, did not have a plan and yet was somehow extremely endearing. And while the 'Masaan' and 'Zubaan' presented a softer side of the actor, Anurag Kashyap's 'Raman Raghav 2.0' had Kaushal playing a strikingly different role as the antagonist. His character was dark, evil and someone you would easily like to hate. And the actor aced it making Raghav one of the darkest characters that Bollywood has seen in recent times. It's okay that the film is not getting a theatrical release. I make films, that is my job. Now, it is up to people if they want to watch it or not- irrespective of the medium."<br />

The director feels that both digital and cinema halls can co-exist. "They will always co-exist. Digital won’t take over. Some films will stay in web format, some for cinema."&nbsp;<br />

Kashyap was in the capital city to launch the Delhi edition of MAMI year-round programme. The programme intends to showcase latest, talked-about- films from across the world to select audience each month. The Mumbai edition is already a hit and now the organisers have planned to take it outside Mumbai. Lauding the initiative to bring world and Indian cinema to Delhi, Kashyap rued that no such festival existed back when he was in Delhi studying at Delhi University.&nbsp;<br />

"We didn’t have anything like this back when I was in college. There used to be only IFFI and there was no awareness about the festivals. I discovered IFFI in '93 and I was in Delhi since 1989. Had I discovered IFFI back then instead of waiting in the canteen for that girl – I could have watched a lot of films," Kashyap admits with a grin.<br />

Calling MAMI an important platform for smaller films and indies, Kashayp said, "It is an important platform for opening up cinema to the world. Which is why it matters."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from 'Lust Stories', Kashyap's upcoming projects include web series 'Sacred Games' which he is co-directing with Vikramaditya Motwane. It marks Saif Ali Khan's debut in web space and co-stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. The series will be on Netflix in July. Kashyap is also directing 'Manmarziyaan' which stars Taapsee Pannu, Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal which is slated to release later in 2018.</p>

Directed by four filmmakers- Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerji and Karan Johar- the four short stories have lust in the backdrop of each of the stories but in reality give out a strong message on society, class divide and one's own psyche.<br />

In Anurag Kashyap's story, Radhika Apte plays a conflicted personality called Kalindi. She is a college teacher who is in an open marriage. On one drunken night, Kalindi sleeps with her student, played by Akash Thosar of 'Sairat' fame. And while the next morning she is convinced that it was just that - and even compels her student to record a statement that it was consensual, she becomes an obsessive monster who just can't leave the poor guy alone. In between the stalking him and his date, she can be seen speaking about her inner feelings to an imaginary shrink or maybe to herself. The camera never really reveals the listener, but the monologues do reveal how complex and confused Apte's character is about love, lust and life.</p>

Akhtar explains the humdrum of city life without too many dialogues, but thereby brilliantly explaining the stark class divide between the lead couple of her story.&nbsp;</p>

On a weekend getaway with her lover (Jaideep Ahlwat), Reena's blissful vacation is disrupted by her self-centered, control freak husband (Sanjay Kapoor) who also happens to her lover's best friend. And while the men skirt around the issue at hand, it is Reena, the bored housewife having an affair outside her marriage, who takes charge and gets her sweet, subtle revenge.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Perhaps the most in-your-face story on lust is delivered by Karan Johar and predictably so. Johar's story is of new bride Megha(Kiara Advani in a refreshing act) who never finds any sexual satisfaction from her over-enthusiastic, naive husband Paras (played by the brilliant Vicky Kaushal). Paras is a man of five thrusts literally who never understands the concept of giving any kind of pleasure to his wife while making love. So Megha decides to take things in her own hand which ultimately has some hilarious consequences. Now, Johar always has had the ability to laugh at himself and here too uses an age-old&nbsp;popular 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' theme song in the most convoluted situation- you will never see that song in the same way after watch 'Lust Stories'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actors in all of the four films are pitch perfect. Radhika Apte, as the confused, conflicted Kalindi is a scene stealer like always. Much like her student, you will be left exasperated and slightly amused by her antics. Manisha Koirala brings back nostalgia as&nbsp;she plays the ice -cold, calm Reena to perfection. Just hope we get to see more of her on the big screen from now on. Zoya Kahtar's leading lady, Bhumi Pednekar emotes through her eyes. She barely has two lines in the film, but with just through her expressions, she plays Sudha - the housemaid with momentary dreams in her eyes and ultimate realisation of her place in the social strata brilliantly.&nbsp;</p>

There is a certain glint of sarcasm in her eyes as she quietly observes her husband's buffoonery.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Among the men, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vicky Kaushal stand out distinctly as the inept, unaware, weak men to their strong women in life. Vicky Kaushal is endearing as the fumbling, inadequate husband who never really gets his wife. It's amazing to see the actor portray such a different character from what he has played earlier. 2018 is clearly turning out to be Kaushal's year- and rightfully so.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bollywood's top directors -- Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee -- are making an anthology film for Netflix on themes of love and lust.<br />

The film was earlier titled <em>Bombay Talkies 2 </em>but was later changed to<em> Lust Stories</em>. The movie brings together the filmmakers after <em>Bombay Talkies&nbsp;</em>in 2013.<br />
<br />
Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP, which made<em> Love Per Square Foot</em>&nbsp;for Netflix, has produced<em> Lust Stories</em>&nbsp;with Ashi Dua of Flying Unicorn Entertainment. Dua was also one of the co-producers of Bombay Talkies.&nbsp;<br />
The film features Radhika Apte, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani.<br />

It will be available to over 117 million members of the streaming service in 190 countries simultaneously in June this year.<br />
