After it was determined that the patient's left lobe of the liver was failing to function normally on its own and was not improving with conventional therapies, the patient had a liver transplant from a pig.

About 200 milliliters of golden bile are secreted daily from the transplanted pig liver, according to hospital head Sun Beicheng, as reported by People's Daily.

The first gene-edited pig liver was transplanted into a patient who had experienced brain death in March by a Chinese team from Air Force Medical University, marking another significant surgical accomplishment.

Additionally in March, a US patient became the first person globally to receive a kidney transplant from a gene-modified pig—a technique that was previously limited to patients who were clinically dead.&nbsp;

The boy was diagnosed with acute liver failure due to Hepatitis A. His condition deteriorated to such an extent that he developed coagulopathy (prothrombin time increased to 70 seconds while normal is 13 seconds) and went into coma.

The family was told that the child needed an urgent liver transplant.
