Thus far, though, the OWGR has yet to approve LIV events for its formula despite LIV recently teaming with the MENA Tour of Middle Eastern and North African events. Sorour told the New Yorker that LIV's plans were nearly scuttled after Phil Mickelson was quoted decrying Saudi Arabia's human-rights history. "I called the boss (Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund) and said, 'Everyone's walking away. Do you want to do it or not?'" Sorour said, according to the New Yorker. "Get the biggest mediocres, get the 10 (players) that we have, get you and I, and let's go play for $25 million."

"The longer it takes obviously the more irrelevant it becomes for us. In this regard, Norman --&nbsp;who spent as many as 331 weeks as the No. 1 ranked player&nbsp;in the 1980s and 1990s -- opined,&nbsp;"For 53 years they have been doing the same thing. it is boring it is staid. The PGA Tour had recently accused LIV Golf of using antitrust laws "as a cudgel" and undermining its contracts with players in a counterclaim to a lawsuit the Saudi-backed circuit filed in September. LIV Golf has acquired the services of some of the PGA Tour's top members -- including six-times major winner Phil Mickelson with enormous purses -- whereas others who followed suit and joined the rebel circuit have been suspended by the miffed PGA Tour.&nbsp;

Earlier, Mickelson and 10 other players had accused the PGA Tour of antitrust violations. In its counterclaim, the PGA Tour had pointed out that the golfers were aware of not having any unilateral right to defect, and that breaching their contracts would lead to suspensions. "(This case) is a cynical effort to avoid competition and to freeride off of the Tour’s investment in the development of professional golf."

"LIV has openly sought to damage the Tour’s business relationships with its members by inducing them to breach their contractual requirements. Even going so far as to pay members' legal fees to make breaching their contracts with Tour more enticing," the Tour said.

Hence, a lot has transpired ever since LIV Golf has come into existence. The PGA tour has 27 sponsors that too have tons or billions of dollars of business in Saudi. Why can those sponsors be there and not with LIV? Golf Saudi is the largest sponsor of women's golf. Why is it not good for&nbsp;48 men but good for them or the US govt to do deals with Saudi? I feel very good about where I am and with the product. I am content with what I am doing for the game of golf."

However, LIV Golf despite having shaken up the traditional structure in the sport remains unfazed as it prepares for its sixth tournament in Asia this week. LIV Gol has managed to assemble a star-studded expensive line-up consisting&nbsp;of the likes of&nbsp;Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson among others and some of the big names will be in action during the event in Bangkok.

Poulter, who is among the stars to have signed up with LIV Golf, is currently in Bangkok where he opened up on a range of topics right from his decision to join the rebel league to his journey so far in an exclusive interaction with WION.

"Don't know if it (LIV Golf) has brought us together but we understood the ability of what this would give us. It gives us a platform to play golf, the same way the European tour has a platform, same way the Asian Tour and the same way the PGA tour. And players like myself have played these tours and tournaments all over the globe for 24 years.&nbsp;

"This is another outlet for us to be able to go and play golf. This is why we took the choice to join LIV, we saw the vision, we saw the brand and how it would add to the team format situation and I am proud to be in a position where we have our team set," Poulter said explaining his decision to join the rebel circuit.

Poulter agreed they can be the pioneers of the rebel circuit which has shaken up the sport with its arrival. Expressing his optimism, the 46-year-old, who won 17 tournaments across multiple tours around the world, said LIV Golf's rapid growth is proof why it has big potential in the future.

"Yes, it has definitely shaken up the sport, there is no question about that. Calling us pioneers? It's a new entity, it's a start-up business, it's a business which has got traction extremely quickly. The viewership is growing extremely quickly. It is also kind of getting into the team format just like we have understood and that's the reason why we have got so many strong players playing in this series," Poulter explained.

While the PGA handed immediate bans to the players who signed up with LIV Golf, the DP World Tour refrained from banning rebel players but imposed fines on those joining the rebel circuit. A court hearing will take place in February to decide the fate of LIV Golf players, who want to continue in the DP World Tour.&nbsp;

Poulter, who was among the prominent names to stand up against sanctions and bans on LIV Golf players, said players have played multiple tours in the past and can continue doing so now.

"There has been a lot of talk, I have been part of the case against my position in Europe, I objected against the suspension and obviously the fine situation and we will see how that plays out but there has been an awful lot said. I am not going to elaborate, I don't think I need to, I feel it's out there. There is the ability to play multiple tours as we have done in the past and this shouldn't be any different," he told WION.

"We are definitely out there to entertain the fans like we have done for the last 24 years. The way the governing bodies are looking at it, is something to be questioned. "There is criteria in place that you will have to tick a number of boxes to be able to get world rankings and we are fully aware of that. If there are tweaks here and there, if there is a way to make it work within the actual system itself then it will be better for the overall golf fam.

It's a little bit of a broken system at the minute. The hope for every player that's out here paying is that there is level of senibility, the best players can compete against the best players in the world in the tournaments fans love to watch. We can only be hopeful that has some level of coming together."

Internationals captain Trevor Immelman says losing several top players to LIV&nbsp;Golf&nbsp;has deepened the determination of the players who will compete against the United States at the Presidents Cup. Having worked with more than two dozen players over the past 18 months, Immelman hopes the lost talent might help create a tighter bond among the players who will tee off starting Thursday in the team showdown at Quail Hollow.

"Strengthened our team from a resolve standpoint," Immelman said. "The 12 that are here, they are the ones that remained loyal, stayed with our team, wanted to play in the Presidents Cup and those are the guys I want to fight with."

It was sad and disappointing to have to go through that. It has been tough to see. "All those players knew what the repercussions would be if they went over to the other tour. Everybody knew where they stood." Immelman said he got the bad news directly from players and was kept in the loop as they decided on LIV. "Am I disappointed they won't all be here? Lee Westwood finished one shot out of a playoff after a 62 that included bogeys on two of his last three holes. He was poised to win when he bounced back from a bogey on No. 1 in the shotgun start with a short birdie on the par-3 second.

He finished on No. 3, a 352-yard hole and great birdie opportunity. Westwood hit a lob wedge that was so fat it came up some 40 feet short of the pin and into a bunker. He blasted out weakly and missed the 18-foot par putt.

I don't think it is the right way to put it, Diggy (smiles). It was about exploring another option. It was also exploring an alternative way. To answer your question, it was after the first event happened in London. Some of my friends were playing and I spoke to them. They said that while it has received a lot of scrutiny, it isn't what everybody is saying it is. That's when I started considering it and then it evolved from there.

Q. What is it about LIV Golf that makes it worthwhile for you to join?

I think that is a good question. Everybody has joined for personal reasons. For me, I have been in the US, fully committed to the PGA Tour. It has been seven years. A lot of things have transpired in those seven years. I have tried to work on my form, fix my issues and keep my game in good shape. At times, when you come back from a tournament schedule, I have found it difficult to blow off steam. But it hasn't felt like it at times. I have become a father twice so it gets difficult. It especially gets difficult when you don't have a family, friends, or a support system that you would like to have, not just personally but for your kids. I've asked myself 'Why am I doing this?'. So, it also comes at a cost. It was always about coming back home, closer to India, give back to the game and contributing to my family.

When LIV came along, I was like 'wow, here is an opportunity for me to actually make that all a reality'. With this schedule, I can still play 8-9 times or how many times they are going to play in the US. The scheduling will be done to maximise the travel. I will be playing in Asia, with young Indian professionals. I will be able to see my coach and have my family and friends. In a nutshell, the positives were outweighing the individual pursuit of my own goals.

Q. You would've obviously weighed up the options. There are going to be new elevated tournaments. More money. Also, with your FedEx Cup rankings just outside the top 70, you would've got&nbsp;an opportunity to play all those events as a guaranteed starter, compared to the PGA Tour.

I think the changes brought forward are fantastic. This season is probably the best time to be a professional golfer because the opportunities are immense. If not because of LIV Golf, it has definitely been a catalyst. To answer your question, there are opportunities. I will be honest, if I was really happy with my life in the US and&nbsp;not come back, I could. The US government would run to give me a green card, being an athlete. I came to America because it was the best decision for my job.

If I was really happy, I wouldn't have left. Because you said very rightly that the financial aspects are there in the PGA Tour as well. But if you look at the opportunities in LIV Golf, I have plenty.

Ahead of the British Open winner Smith's signing, FedEx Cup champion and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy had opined on the LIV Golf and made a strong claim.&nbsp;

As per a report in Fox Sports, the 33-year-old had slammed LIV Golf and stated, “If you believe in something I think you have to speak up, and I believe very strongly about this. I really do.&nbsp;I hate what it’s doing to the game of golf. I hate it. I really do. Like it’s going to be hard for me to stomach going to Wentworth in a couple of weeks’ time and seeing 18 of them there. That just doesn’t sit right with me." He added, "I believe what I‘m saying are the right things, and I think when you believe that what you’re saying is the right things, you’re happy to stick your neck out on the line."

Woods jetted off from his home in Florida last week to Philadelphia where he along with Rickie Fowler met the big names of the PGA Tour, including the likes of Justin Thomas, Rory Mcilroy and others. Details of the meeting have since surfaced and Woods' efforts in saving the PGA Tour's grace in the wake of the huge battle have impressed many, who believe the American legend&nbsp;has gained the status of the Tour's virtual commissioner.

PGA Tour commissioner&nbsp;Jay Monahan and other administrators were not part of the meeting which was reportedly a hush-hush affair. Woods met with at least 15 players during the meeting and the option of a tour within a tour with 18 not-cut tournaments featuring top 60 players with a no-cut format was discussed.

The idea of sitting at the table with LIV Golf was also reportedly debated during the meeting along with the proposal of a shake-up of the PGA Tour's financial model. There have been suggestions to rescind the Tour's non-profit model which can bring in significant investments allowing them to compete with the riches of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League.

15-time major winner Woods was offered around 700-800 million dollars by the Saudi-backed LIV League but the golf&nbsp;legend rejected any advances to remain committed to the PGA Tour. Former professional golfer and the&nbsp;LIV Golf commissioner, Greg Norman had confirmed Woods was presented with an exorbitant offer but he denied it.

Despite Woods' leadership and influence, PGA Tour has already lost some of its big names as the golfers found it difficult to resist the riches of the rival Saudi-backed league. Woods, however, remains focused on ensuring those who haven't yet committed to the LIV Golf League are not in two minds about continuing with the PGA Tour.

The breakaway league claims it has huge ambitions and the major objective remains to improve professional golf. However, it has been widely criticised by several professional golfers and human rights groups who are opposed to Saudi Arabia's history of oppression and violence. Woods, one of the icons of the game, seems to have assumed a leadership role in leading PGA Tour's fight against LIV Golf Series. Woods had recently attended a meeting with some of the top golfers from the PGA Tour to discuss the strategy to combat the threat of the breakaway series. Woods jetted off from his home in Florida last week to Philadelphia where he along with Rickie Fowler met the big names of the PGA Tour, including the likes of Justin Thomas, Rory Mcilroy and others. Details of the meeting have since surfaced and Woods' efforts in saving the PGA Tour's grace in the wake of the huge battle have impressed many, who believe the American legend has gained the status of the Tour's virtual commissioner. Woods met with at least 15 players during the meeting and the option of a tour within a tour with 18 not-cut tournaments featuring top 60 players with a no-cut format was discussed. The idea of sitting at the table with LIV Golf was also reportedly debated during the meeting along with the proposal of a shake-up of the PGA Tour's financial model. There have been suggestions to rescind the Tour's non-profit model which can bring in significant investments allowing them to compete with the riches of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League. Former professional golfer and the LIV Golf commissioner, Greg Norman had confirmed Woods was presented with an exorbitant offer but he denied it. Despite Woods' leadership and influence, PGA Tour has already lost some of its big names as the golfers found it difficult to resist the riches of the rival Saudi-backed league.
