The encounter broke out at around 8 pm at Anantnag&#39;s Wanihama village, following an anti-militancy operation launched by the security forces, a defence spokesperson told PTI.

The three slain terrorists, all belonging to terrorist group Lashkar-e-taiba (LeT) were identified as Shaukat Louhar, Mudassir and Zibran.One AK-47, one SLR and one pistol was&nbsp;seized by them.

A joint team of security forces acted on specific information that the terrorists would pass through Anantnag&#39;s Wanihama (Brakpora) area in a car. Personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police then laid an ambush, and engaged with them, killing all three, Defence Ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia was quoted as saying.

The LeT is suspected to be behind the Amarnath terrorist attack on July 12 that claimed the lives of seven pilgrims.

The terrorist outfit is also responsible for the killing of SHO Feroz Ahmed and five other policemen on the outskirts of Anantnag district on June 16.&nbsp;

On July 1, security forces shot dead LeT commander Bashir Lakshari - an accused in the killing of Feroz Ahmed and the five policemen - &nbsp;along with another militant from the terrorist group.

3 Lashkar terrorists killed in encounter near J&K's Anantnag

The Delhi Police have been put on high alert following intelligence inputs that a group of 20- 21 Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists has entered the country to carry out attacks.&nbsp;

Officials have also been asked to carry out mock drills to check preparedness of the their staff.&nbsp;

In a recent interview to PTI, Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik had said that they needed to make extra efforts in maintaining vigil since the national capital was a favourite target of terror outfits.&nbsp;

Ten PCR vans manned by National Security Guard-trained drivers and commandos have been deployed at vulnerable spots.&nbsp;

The Parakram vans will be stationed at Vijay Chowk, Palika Bazar, IP Marg, Select Citywalk Mall in Saket, Vasant Kunj Mall, Pacific Mall in Subhash Nagar, Netaji Subhash Place market and mall complex, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple and Jhandewalan.

Delhi on high alert after possible terror attack report

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday it had busted a module of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) which had been trying to revive militancy in the Chenab valley. Seven persons, including an Special Police Officer and a former Territorial Army personnel were arrested, police said.

The module was working to revive militancy in the Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban region of the restive northern Indian state.

The arrests were made by a special investigation team (SIT) formed after the attack on a police post in Doda on May 8, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, SDS Jamwal said. One special police officer (SPO) was killed and another injured in the incident.

Based on intelligence inputs, the SIT picked up a few suspects and subsequently apprehended Abdul Rashid Harga alias Abdullah, who had been an active member of LeT between 2001 and 2008 and had surrendered later, the IGP said. After his interrogation, the police arrested Bashir Ahmed, who was earlier part of Territorial Army, his nephew and SPO Altaf Ahmed, and two others, Shafqat Hussain and Hafiz.

Rashid was again arrested in 2013 and was released on bail in 2016.

&quot;After sustained interrogation, Rashid confessed to his involvement in the (Doda) firing incident and disclosed the names of his two associates -- his younger brother Showket Ali and Akthar Magary of Tanta,&quot; the IGP said.

An AK-47 rifle and three magazines and ammunition have been recovered from them, the IGP said.

He said that Rashid had been in contact with Bashir Ahmed of Bangraw-Gandoh, who was earlier working in the 139 Territorial Army Battalion in Thathri. Bashir had asked his nephew Altaf Ahmed, who was working as an SPO in the police department in Doda district, to arrange a weapon.

The SPO had then stolen one AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the district police line in January. A case in connection with the weapon theft was registered at Doda police station.

The IGP claimed that Rashid was in direct communication with his Pakistani handler, Mohd Amin alais Khubeb alais Haroon alais Pinna of the LeT.

He said that Rashid, Akhtar and Shokat, on the direction of Khubeb, had been enticing youths of Tanta area to join the militancy.

The police officer said that Rashid had been regularly conducting meetings in various areas of the Chenab Valley and motivating former militants and those who had surrendered.&nbsp;

LeT module busted in J&K, 2 security personnel among 7 arrested

The US has imposed sanctions on Pakistan-based extremists and an organisation run by Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed&#39;s JuD group as part of an effort to disrupt their leadership and fund-raising networks.

The sanctions have been slapped to disrupt the funding of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its front for charitable activities, the Jamaat-ud-Dawah, the Taliban, Jamaat-ul-Dawa al-Qu&#39;ran (JDQ), the Islamic State, and ISIS Khorasan.

Khorasan is a historical region comprising a vast territory covering northeastern Iran, southern Turkmenistan, and northern Afghanistan and parts of India.

The sanctions in particular have been imposed against Hayatullah Ghulam Muhammad (Haji Hayatullah), Ali Muhammad Abu Turab, Inayat-ur Rahman, and a purported charity managed by Inayat-ur Rahman, the Welfare and Development Organisation of Jamaat-ud-Dawah for Quran and Sunnah (WDO).

&quot;These sanctions seek to disrupt the financial support networks of terrorists based in Pakistan who have provided support to the Taliban, al-Qaeda, ISIS, and LeT for recruitment and funding of suicide bombers and other violent insurgent operations,&quot; said John Smith, Director of Treasury&#39;s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

&quot;The US continues to aggressively target extremists in Pakistan and the surrounding region, including charities and other front groups used as vehicles to facilitate illicit terrorist activities,&quot; Smith said.

&quot;The three individuals and (an) entity we designated have connections with terrorist groups that are a direct threat to the security of both the United States and Pakistan,&quot; he said.

&quot;The individuals are opportunistic and willing to work with extremist organisations, even those ideologically opposed to one another, to help them deepen their foothold in the region,&quot; Smith added.

OFAC said they designated Hayatullah for acting on behalf of JDQ and LeT, and for providing material and financial support to the Taliban, al-Qaeda, ISIS, and ISIS Khorasan.

Abu Turab invited sanctions for providing material and financial support to JDQ. Last year, he facilitated movement of thousands of dollars from the Gulf to Pakistan.

Inayat-ur Rahman has been slapped with sanctions for acting for JDQ and the Taliban, and for providing material and financial support to LeT and the Taliban. A long-time leader of JDQ, he worked directly for Haji Hayatullah.

OFAC designated the WDO for being controlled by Inayat-ur Rahman. As of 2015, he was the director, chairman, and president of WDO.

The bullet-riddled body of 22-year-old Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz from Kashmir was found in Harmen area of Shopian yesterday morning, hours after he was abducted by militants from Batpura village.

&quot;We have identified six militants who were involved in the killing of Fayaz. The militants are from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen,&quot; a source said. Security forces are carrying out searches in various areas to nab the six militants, the source said.

Fayaz, son of a farmer and an avid sportsman, had gone to attend the wedding of the daughter of his maternal uncle at Batapura, about 74 kms from Srinagar, from where he was abducted by the militants around 10 pm on Tuesday night.

On his first leave since joining the Army, he was posted with 2 Rajputana Rifles in&nbsp;Akhnoor in Jammu region.

His killing has triggered anger among the locals who demanded action against the culprits.

The Army had yesterday vowed to punish the killers of Fayaz and said the incident marks a watershed moment in Kashmir Valley as people there will decisively turn the tide against terrorism.

Calling the attack a &quot;dastardly act of cowardice&quot; by militants, defence minister Arun Jaitley had said Fayaz&#39;s sacrifice reiterates the nation&#39;s commitment to eliminate terrorism from the valley.

A Delhi court acquited two Lashkar terrorists and convicted only one accused in the 2005 serial blasts in the Indian capital Delhi that killed 60 people.

In the chargesheet against Dar, the Delhi Police alleged that his call details proved he was in touch with LeT operatives.&nbsp;

Indian investigators believe the Pakistan-based Islamist terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the attacks.

Pakistan: Hafiz Saeed, four others put under house arrest

Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives, who were nabbed while trying to illegally enter India, were sentenced to death by an Indian court for plotting attacks in Kashmir.

The operatives, Mohammad Yunous, Abdullah Khan and Muzaffar Ahmed, were given death penalty&nbsp;by Fast Track Court-1 of Bongaon in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, a state in east India, on Saturday.

Yunous and Khan are both Pakistani nationals and Ahmed is an Indian national. Ahmed hailed from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yunous&nbsp;and Abdullah Khan belonged to the LeT suicide squad and had planned a suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the investigation.

A fourth LeT operative, Sheikh Naeem alias Samir from Aurangabad in Maharashtra&nbsp;was arrested with the three men, but had fled from Crime Investigation Department&#39;s custody&nbsp;in 2013. He has been declared absconding.

Investigators said Samir&nbsp;was also involved in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts, which left more than 200 dead. He had also confessed to helping LeT handlers in Pakistan in the train blasts. He was also interrogated by a team of Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad in connection with the attacks.

The four men were arrested on April 1, 2007 by Border Security Force (BSF) from Petrapole border while attempting to sneak&nbsp;into India.&nbsp;During the trial, the court learnt that they had travelled from Karachi, Pakistan, to Bangladesh, and were trying to enter India from there.

Later, the India&#39;s border security force handed over the four to West Bengal CID for investigation. The CID had produced them before the court on April 4, 2007 and sought custody. Since then, CID had been investigating the case.

The trial ended last week and the quantum of punishment was announced on Saturday. They were sentenced to death for plotting a war against the nation.&nbsp;

At the time of their arrest, several documents were found on them which suggested that the four men were on their way to Jammu and Kashmir. Several mobile phones were also found on them. However, SIM cards were missing from those mobile phones. Later, they had admitted that they had destroyed the SIM cards moments after their arrest.

India: Three Lashkar militants handed death penalty for plotting strikes in Kashmir

India&#39;s National Investigation Agency (NIA) &nbsp;on Friday filed a charge sheet against Pakistani national Bahadur Ali for allegedly planning terrorist attacks in India on behalf of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). 
 
The NIA alleges that as part of LeT&#39;s plan, Ali, along with his two associates, Abu Saad and Abu Darda, all trained terrorists, infiltrated into Indian territory equipped with arms and ammunition, navigation equipment, combat material and other articles. They entered India with&nbsp;the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and at different places of the country including capital New Delhi, as per the given instructions to them by their LeT handlers in&nbsp;Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

Ali&#39;s accomplices were later killed in an encounter, the charge sheet states.&nbsp;

Ali, alias Saifullah Mansoor, was constantly in touch with Alfa-3 &mdash; the LeT control station based in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, the NIA alleges in the charge sheet.

The charge sheet states that a GPS device and a pocket diary recovered from Ali established his links with the LeT and contained the names of several towns in Kashmir as well as&nbsp;Delhi. &nbsp;He was also allegedly instructed by the LeT to mix with the stone-pelting agitators and throw grenades at the Indian security forces after the death of militant Burhan Wani in July.

&quot;The data retrieved from the GPS device The pocket diary recovered from Ali, among other contained coordinates of the Mandakuli &#39;launching pad&#39; of LeT. The pocket diary contains the name of several towns in Jammu and Kashmir (J&amp;K), like Rafiabad, Kunzar, Tangmarg, Budgam, Poonch, Jammu and Udhampur, besides Delhi. Given the fact that Ali is a trained cadre of LeT, the inclusion of the names of these towns or cities in the diary indicates that he was tasked to carry outterror attacks at several places, including in Delhi,&quot; the charge sheet states.

It added that Ali, a school dropout and a resident of a village near Pakista&#39;s Lahore, was provided with a map depicting parts of J&amp;K and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).&nbsp;

He was provided with grid references (GRs) that had been recovered from his possession. Ali plotted these GRs on the map sheet which was sent for examination to the Surveyor General of India at Dehradun which affirmed that the terrorist had plotted them correctly, the charge sheet alleges.

&quot;This clearly establishes that Ali is well conversant with the use of the map sheet and that he has received training in the subject.&quot;

The charge sheet was filed before a district judge, Amar Nath, in capital New Delhi. The NIA had registered a case against Ali, who was arrested on July 24 last year from Yahama village in North Kashmir&#39;s border with Pakistan.

It states that a thorough probe found that LeT has set up a well-organised machinery for the recruitment of vulnerable young men from different provinces of Pakistan as part of a conspiracy to wage war against India by committing terrorist acts in various parts of the country.

&quot;Once recruited, these impressionable young men are put through various training regimes with the twin objectives of radicalising their worldview and providing them with &#39;military&#39; skills. Subsequent to their training, these trained cadres of LeT are illegally pushed into Indian Territory where they commit terrorist acts with the help of a network of their supporters and facilitators,&quot; the charge sheet said.

The charge sheet also highlighted the gaps along the Line of Control (LoC). It states that Ali, along with two other terrorists, walked undetected for seven days before they reached their destination. The trio had entered India between the intervening night to June 12 and 13 last year and reached their destination only around June 20.&nbsp;

NIA has slapped charges under Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosives Act, the Explosives Substances Act, Arms Act, the Foreigners Act and the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act.&nbsp;

Ali has been in judicial custody since August. A special court had on December 19 extended the judicial custody of Ali till January 18.

India's investigating agency files charge sheet against Pakistani national for links to LeT

The United States on Wednesday announced it was adding the student wing of the Pakistan-based militant organisation, Lashkar-e-Taiba, to its list of &ldquo;foreign terrorist organisations&rdquo;.

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), or Army of the Pure, is an anti-Indian militant group with historical ties to Pakistan&rsquo;s top spy agencies. It has been accused of orchestrating numerous attacks, including a 2008 assault in Mumbai that killed 166 people.

The action subjected the student group to sanctions, including a ban on Americans providing or attempting to provide it with material support.

Sarwar, the department said, is the LeT leader in Lahore and Mahmood is a senior LeT leader in Karachi and has routinely traveled outside Pakistan on the group&rsquo;s behalf.

Two militants were gunned down Wednesday by Indian security forces in separate encounters in the&nbsp;restive state of Kashmir.

Two militants gunned down in restive Kashmir

In a review meeting of the border security situation, interior minister Rajnath Singh met senior defence officials, including defence minister, national security advisor and intelligence bureau chief in the capital today.&nbsp;

They discussed fresh intelligence on the rise in infiltration bids from across the Line of Control and the movement along the Rajasthan border&nbsp;after forces killed two terrorists in Pampore district in a three-day security operation.&nbsp;

A gun battle between the security forces and militants holed up in a government building in Pampore, Kashmir ended after 56 hours with two armed militants being shot dead.&nbsp;

The army searched all 50 rooms of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) complex before calling off the operation.&nbsp;

One militant was killed on Tuesday evening and the other was shot dead by the security forces today, an army official said.&nbsp;

New Delhi suspects the militants to be Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives. LeT, an outlawed militant group headed by Hafiz Saeed, is believed to have terror camps in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Indian media reports suggested the militants were planning to stage attacks on Indian Army installations in Kashmir.

According to reports, the militants entered from the&nbsp;rear of the government building early on Monday morning. The gunmen, who were first sighted by a staffer at the building, opened fire at 5 am.

Indian security forces soon rounded the building and &quot;used heavy weapons&quot; to end the days-long siege, a senior police officer supervising the operation told The Times of India.

Elite Para commandos of the army&nbsp;were also called in to neutralise the militants, the official said. One army soldier was also injured in the initial exchange of fire, an official said.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, the forces entered the building to flush out the lone surviving militant despite being initially hesitant to do so. They were wary because a similar operation in February had resulted in the loss of five security personnel.

Militants had assailed the same building, which is otherwise used to provide vocational&nbsp;training to Kashmiris, in February.&nbsp;

The operation has reduced the multi-storey building to a skeleton after many of its walls were blown up.

Kashmir: Pampore siege ends after 56 hours, 2 militants dead

The Pakistani government has told its army that it wishes to crack down on people thought by India and the United States to be terrorists, the&nbsp;Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported Thursday.&nbsp;The demand is&nbsp;unprecedented.

Pakistan foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry told the security establishment at the All Parties&#39; Conference on Monday&nbsp;that the government wished to take action against Masood Azhar and his outfit the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hafiz Saeed and his Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the Haqqani network, the Dawn reported.

Islamabad also underlined its intention to speed up&nbsp;the investigation into the attack on the Pathankot air base (in India) in 2016 and to resume the currently-suspended 2008 Mumbai attacks-related trials.

The Dawn reported that the Pakistani military told the government in reply that it was free to arrest whomsoever it wished to; to which the government -- in the form of Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, he is also Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif&#39;s younger brother&nbsp;&nbsp;--&nbsp;replied that each time it tried to take action against &quot;certain groups&quot;,&nbsp;the military &quot;has worked behind the scenes to set the arrested free&quot;.&nbsp;

The government then asked the military not to shield people who are perceived by the international community to be terrorists.

The Dawn reported the&nbsp;foreign secretary as saying it was important this was done because of Pakistan&#39;s&nbsp;growing international isolation.&nbsp;

The Dawn also quoted unnamed&nbsp;sources&nbsp;at the meeting&nbsp;as saying that&nbsp;the foreign secretary had said even China has privately expressed its concerns about Islamabad&#39;s policy on terrorism.

The foreign secretary was reported to have said that even&nbsp;China has asked Pakistan why it was&nbsp;protecting JeM leader Masood Azhar, who is wanted by India for a string of terrorist attacks in the&nbsp;country, the Dawn quoted its sources as saying.&nbsp;

New Delhi believes Azhar masterminded the Uri attack in Kashmir last month and the attack on the&nbsp;Indian Parliament in December 2001.

China&#39;s hesitancy in&nbsp;supporting&nbsp;Pakistan, coupled with intense international pressure, has compelled the civilian government to take a hard line against terrorism.

While India has long demanded action against Hafiz Saeed &mdash; he is believed to have orchestrated the 2008 Mumbai attacks &mdash;&nbsp;and Azhar and their militant groups, the US has wanted Pakistan to clamp down on the dreaded Haqqani network, an Afghaninsurgent group fighting NATO forces.

The high-stakes meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sharif and included senior cabinet&nbsp;officials. The military was represented by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general Rizwan Akhtar.

Both the military and the government, however, have refused to confirm the contents of the meeting.

The government&#39;s surprise decision to sharpen the rules of engagement with the army is fraught with risks&nbsp;for the latter is widely perceived to be stronger than the democratically- elected government of Pakistan.

Pak government to army: Will take action against terrorists, please don't get in the way

Militants killed eight police officials and injured 21 when they attacked a security convoy in Jammu &amp; Kashmir on Saturday, a police spokesman said, in an attack claimed by Islamist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). 
 
Two men attacked a convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on a highway near the Pampore town, 15 kilometres (9 miles) from the state capital Srinagar. The militants were killed by CRPF officials who were guarding the highway, police spokesman Bhavesh Kumar Choudhary said. 
 
Dr Abdullah Gaznavi, a spokesman for LeT, told Reuters by phone that the attack was carried out by members of the group&#39;s suicide squad. Gaznavi claimed 13 CRPF police officials were killed in the fighting that lasted for an hour. 
 
In the wake of the attack, Indian&nbsp;home minister Rajnath Singh today clearly accused Pakistan of trying to destabilise India even as he said lapses, if any, in yesterday&#39;s incident&nbsp;will&nbsp;be looked into and status of infiltration ascertained. 
 
A three-member team comprising of Indian&nbsp;home ministry officials will visit Kashmir on Tuesday to find out if there were any lapses involved in the attack in Pampore, the deadliest one on security forces in recent years. 
 
The team will look into the possible increase of cross border Infiltration and practices being followed during the movement of paramilitary forces convoy in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian officials said. 
 
After the attack, the&nbsp;CRPF has moved about half-a-dozen heavy-armoured mine protected vehicles (MPVs) which were earlier used for&nbsp;operations against&nbsp;Left wing extremists, to the&nbsp;Kashmir Valley to effectively secure its troops deployed there. 
 
Violence in Kashmir has spiked against a backdrop of rising social tension and separatist sentiment in the Muslim-majority region, which for decades has been at the centre of a strategic tussle between India and Pakistan. 
 
In May, militants shot dead three policemen at point-blank range. In February, militants attacked a bus carrying police reservists near Srinagar, before breaking into a training institute. 
 
India and Pakistan have fought two of their three wars since independence in 1947 over Kashmir, which they both claim in full, but rule in part.
