Goldy Brar, Sidhu Moose Wala murder mastermind, added to Canada's top 25 most-wanted fugitives' list

Jailed Punjabi gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi has asked actor Salman Khan to apologise or be "ready to face the consequences". In a recent interview, where Lawrence can be seen giving an interview from jail, he threatened the actor. He said unflinchingly that he will "break his ego sooner or later". In June 2022, Mumbai police lodged an FIR against an unknown person for sending a ‘threat letter’ to Salman Khan and his father, Salim Khan.

The threat-note read, "Moosewala jaisa kar doonga (You will suffer the same fate as Moosewala)", referring to the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29. The note was allegedly sent by Lawrence Bishnoi, though he later denied his involvement with this. But who is Lawrence Bishnoi and why is he in jail?

Who is Lawrence Bishnoi?

Lawrence Bishnoi is a Punjabi gangster and a leader of a local gang in North India. He has two dozen criminal cases against him including ones for murder and extortion. He has denied all these allegations. His gang is affiliated with over 700 shooters across India.

Lawrence attended Abohar School until the 12th grade when he transferred to DAV College in Chandigarh. In 2011, he joined the Panjab University Campus Students Council, where he met another gangster, Goldy Brar (real name Satinder Singh). They got involved in university politics and then started committing crimes. He earned his LLB at Panjab University.

Bishnoi idolises Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Guru Jambheshwar, and Lord Hanuman. During court appearances, he is frequently seen wearing a T-shirt with a photo of Bhagat Singh. In an interview with ABP News, he stated that he is completely opposed to the Khalistan movement and does not support any anti-national activity.

Lawrence Bishnoi interview: Why did he ask Salman Khan to apologise?

In an interview with ABP news, Lawrence Bishnoi said that Salman humiliated his community by killing a blackbuck. Lawrence said, "There is anger in our society for Salman Khan. He humiliated my society. A case was filed against him but he did not apologise. If he does not tender an apology, be ready to face the consequences. I will not depend on anyone else."

He also added, "There is anger in my mind for him since childhood. Will break his ego sooner or later. He should come to our deity's temple and apologise. If our society forgives, then I will not say anything."

Salman was granted a firearm licence for self-defense by the Mumbai Police in August last year. Following the threats, the Maharashtra government reportedly granted Salman Y+ security clearance in November last year. It means he will always be accompanied by four armed security personnel.

Bishnoi is currently lodged in Bathinda jail. He returned to Punjab a few days ago from Rajasthan where he was taken for questioning last month in connection with a firing and extortion case registered in January. However, the location of Bishnoi while appearing in the interview in a yellow T-shirt was not clear. Soon after the interview was aired, the Punjab government issued a press release, categorically stating that the video was not from either Bathinda jail or from any other jail in Punjab

How Lawrence Bishnoi is connected to the Siddhu Moose Wala murder case?

Sidhu Moose Wala, a Punjabi singer, was assassinated on May 29, 2022, in Mansa, Punjab. Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the shooting hours later, claiming that he had engineered the entire plot with Bishnoi. The police believe Bishnoi's gang was involved in the shooting. He was in Tihar Jail at the time of the shooting. Lawrence was taken into custody for five days by the Delhi Police Special Cell for investigation.

Soon after Moose Wala's death, Bishnoi filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, claiming that he was afraid for his life and that the Punjab police were staging a fake encounter. He demanded that the Delhi Police and the Tihar Jail administration ensure his safety and that he be properly handcuffed. He later withdrew his petition to the Delhi High Court. He then petitioned the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Who is Lawrence Bishnoi? Gangster who threatened Salman Khan- how is he connected to Sidhu Moose Wala case?

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested six people, including members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, in nationwide raids. These arrests come during NIA raids at 76 locations across eight states to bust the known terrorist-gangster-drug smuggler nexus.

The six people arrested by the NIA include Lucky Khokhar aka Denis, who is a close associate of Canada-based 'designated terrorist', Arshdeep Singh aka Arsh Dalla. Others arrested in the raids, which were carried out in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, NCR, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, include associates of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Goldy Brar.

Khokhar, a resident of Bhatinda, Punjab, who was nabbed from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, on Tuesday, was in direct and frequent contact with Arsh Dalla in Canada and had carried out recruitment for him and received funds from him for carrying out terror-related activities. He had provided arms and ammunition to Arsh Dalla's associates in Punjab on his directions, which were also used for carrying out the recent killing in Jagraon, Punjab on Dalla's directions.

NIA had registered a suo-moto case on August 20 last year against seven people, including Harwinder Singh aka Rinda, Lakhbir Singh Sandhu aka Landa, and Arshdeep Singh aka Arsh Dalla. One person, Deepak Ranga, was earlier arrested in the case by the NIA.

According to an NIA spokesperson, Khokhar was working for Dalla, who has been involved in smuggling arms, ammunition, explosives, IEDs etc. across international and inter-state borders in India for several Khalistani terror outfits, including the Khalistan Liberation Force, Babbar Khalsa International and International Sikh Youth Federation.

Besides Khokhar, the NIA also arrested Lakhvir Singh, a resident of Gidderbaha, Muktsar, Punjab; Harpreet, a resident of Nihal Singh Wala, Moga, Punjab; Dalip Bishnoi, a resident of Bishanpura Abohar, Dist Fazilka, Punjab; Surinder aka Chiku Chaudhary, a resident of Mahendragarh, Haryana and Hari Om aka Titu, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana.

While Hari Om aka Titu was arrested on Tuesday, Lakhvir Singh was nabbed a day later on Wednesday in connection with a case registered against them and their associates in August last year for allegedly attempting to motivate and recruit youth for terror activities by using social media.

They were also using social media to 'publicise' their crimes in a bid to create fear among the general public. Nine weapons were recovered from Lakhvir's possession. He is a notorious criminal and an associate of Chhotu Ram Bhaat, who was arrested earlier. The NIA has so far arrested nine accused, including Kaushal Choudhary, Amit Dagar, Sukhpreet Singh, Bhupi Rana, Neeraj Bawana, Naveen Bali and Sunil Balyan, in this case.

According to the spokesperson, Surender Chaudhary and Dalip Bishnoi are known associates of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Canada-based criminal, Goldy Brar.

They were arrested for raising funds, recruiting youth and carrying out terrorist acts on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This case was also registered by the NIA in August last year and 10 accused, including Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Kala Jatheri, Kala Rana, Joginder Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Raju Basoudi, Anil Chippi, Naresh Yadav, and Shahbaz Ansari have been arrested.

The spokesperson said Surinder Chaudhry was arrested on Tuesday for attempts to murder and extortion and also faces several cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. He has been involved in illegal liquor contracts, smuggling and extortion from liquor and mining contractors in Haryana and has been one of the main financers of terror-gangster syndicates.

Dalip Bishnoi, who was arrested on Wednesday, is a habitual criminal having 13 cases against him. He has been one of the main financers of this terror gang and was providing logistics support to the gangs in Punjab and Rajasthan.

The NIA investigations have also revealed that many criminals, who were leading gangsters in India, had fled to countries like Pakistan, Canada, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia and were planning their terror and criminal acts from there, in association with criminals lodged in jails in different states. These groups were carrying out targeted killings and raising funds for their nefarious activities through smuggling of drugs and weapons, hawala and extortion. Further investigations are on to dismantle such terror networks and their funding and support infrastructure.
Lawrence Bishnoi gang members among 6 arrested in NIA raids against gangster-terrorist nexus

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India launched raids at several locations throughout the country on Tuesday, February 21, in an attempt to rein in active gangster syndicates. As per media reports, more than 70 sites across several cities were raided by NIA officials. Among the raided places were also the premises of close aides of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Neeraj Bawana. Lawrence Bishnoi is the same name who has been accused of killing Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala. Kulwinder, a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, was also target in NIA raids. He is accused of sheltering gangsters of the Lawrence gang. The gang has also strong links with international drug syndicates.

Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh were among the states where NIA was conducting search operations. The current raids are related to an investigation into a case that the NIA filed against gangsters and their criminal organisations. So far, the NIA has conducted four raids against the gangster network.

Who is Lawrence Bishnoi?

Lawrence Bishnoi is the head of the 700-member gang that is involved in several murder and extortion cases across the National Capital Region (NCR). The 31-year-old gangster is currently locked up in Delhi’s Tihar Jail since 2021. But, that has not stopped him from operating the gang and giving directions to his colleagues, including those based abroad.

Lawrence fell afoul of the law during his college days only. He entered the world of crime back in 2008 when he shot one of the rival candidates in Punjab University student body elections. In 2010, Lawrence and his gang members were accused of assaulting a winning candidate in PU student body elections. In 2014, he and his gang members shot dead a political rival in Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls. He is the leader of the gangster-terror nexus running from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan to Chandigarh.

Who is Neeraj Bawana, another target of NIA raids?

Neeraj Bawana belongs to a rival gang of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and was also targeted in NIA raids conducted on Tuesday. NIA conducted raids at the premises of gangster Nikku, the cousin of Neeraj Bawana. After the death of Sidhu Moose Wala, it was Neeraj Bawana and his gang members who vowed to take revenge in ‘two days.’ Neeraj is also imprisoned in Delhi’s Tihar Jail along with his associated Tillu Tajpuriya and thug Davinder Bambiha.

Just like the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the Neeraj Bawana gang is active in states like Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan.
