Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday (February 2) accused the United States of having been directly involved in Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions. He was speaking in an interview on state TV and he offered no evidence to substantiate his claims. Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had accused Britain of blowing up the pipelines. The accusation was denied promptly by the UK then.

In the interview, Lavrov also claimed that the West was lying about Russia's refusal to negotiate to end Ukraine crisis. He additionally alleged that there were attempts from the West to turn Moldova, Georgia and ex-Soviet republics in Central Asia against Russia.

US directly involved in Nord Stream blasts, claims Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was in South Africa for talks with one of its most important allies on a continent that is divided over Russia's invasion of Ukraine and related Western attempts to isolate it.

Talks on second Russia-African Summit on agenda, Lavrov and Pandor discuss bilateral issues

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday (November 13) arrived in Bali, Indonesia to attend the G20 summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided not to attend the summit.

Russia's participation in the G20 Summit is being looked upon globally especially in the light of Ukraine conflict.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 this year. After sustained battlefield advances, Russian forces were forced to retreat in the face of strong Ukrainian counter-offensive.

Recent retreat from Kherson has been the latest blow to Russian forces. Putin's near-invincible image, both in and out of Russia, has taken a beating.

Lavrov accused the United States of pushing the 'militarisation' Southeast Asia,"clearly aimed at containing China and limiting Russian interests in the region".

As the Ukraine invasion has ground on, and with Western sanctions biting, Russia has pivoted toward Southeast Asia in an attempt to shore up its battered economy.

Lavrov called Washington's strategy -- which has seen the United States push for closer relations with Southeast Asian nations -- "not inclusive and that compete with the inclusive structures created around ASEAN".

The regional summit in Cambodia has been dominated by international concerns, as first Ukraine and then the US-China rivalry overshadowed local concerns such as Myanmar.

After a massive viewer-led 12-hour campaign that saw over 25,000 tweets in WION's support, YouTube on Saturday backed down and unblocked the global channel it had banned for reporting Russia's statement on the Ukraine war without bias.

WION, while reporting the Russian invasion from the ground, has made sure that its reportage remains balanced and both sides of the story are heard in an unbiased manner. However, on March 22, YouTube blocked WION allowing no new video uploads ensuring a total block.

And now, after massive support garnered from its users for its campaign asking for YouTube to unblock WION, the Big Tech giant has backed down. WION is now back online on YouTube after it was unblocked.

YouTube apparently had a problem with one of WION’s videos dating back to March 10 which showed two live speeches — one by Ukraine's foreign minister Dmitry Kuleba and another by Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov.

On March 22, WION got a message from YouTube saying that it is blocking the channel from posting any videos. It said the videos violated YouTube's community guidelines.

WION made an appeal to YouTube but it was rejected. WION then wrote to YouTube demanding an explanation.

YouTube said: "Our community guidelines prohibit content denying, minimizing, or trivialising well-documented violent events, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, adding,"Under this policy, we have removed content, for example, denying that Russia invaded Ukraine or alleging that Ukrainian victims are crisis actors."

WION makes sure that the reportage reaches every corner of the world and that it should be easily accessible to all and that it should inform your opinion.

Also Read: YouTube blocks WION for reporting Russian statement On March 22, WION got a message from YouTube saying that it is blocking the channel from posting any videos. It said the videos violated YouTube's community guidelines. WION made an appeal to YouTube but it was rejected. WION then wrote to YouTube demanding an explanation. YouTube said: "Our community guidelines prohibit content denying, minimizing, or trivialising well-documented violent events, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, adding,"Under this policy, we have removed content, for example, denying that Russia invaded Ukraine or alleging that Ukrainian victims are crisis actors." WION makes sure that the reportage reaches every corner of the world and that it should be easily accessible to all and that it should inform your opinion. Amid Russia-Ukraine conflict, the high level talks are underway between Kuleba and Lavrov. Well, Turkey President Erdogan will be speaking to President Biden today.

First high-level talks between Kuleba & Lavrov underway in Turkey amid the ongoing conflict

Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba has claimed that Russia is spreading misinformation. "Russian FM Lavrov spreads disinfo by falsely alleging Ukraine wants to restore its nuclear arsenal," he said.

He deemed it as a " cynical, blatant lie."

"Russia who itself fires at nuclear facilities in Ukraine. Safe zones must be established around them to prevent disaster in Europe," he wrote on Twitter.

This comes after Russia blamed the explosion on Ukrainian "saboteurs" calling it "monstrous provocation". "Last night on the territory adjacent to the power plant, an attempt was made by the Kyiv nationalist regime to carry out a monstrous provocation," Russia's defence ministry said.

Russian forces have seized the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine's southeast, the regional state administration claimed on Friday.

Intense fighting is going on between Russian and Ukrainian forces.

On Friday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), while citing the country's regulatory authorities, said that essential equipment at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was unaffected in the incident and there was no change in radiation levels.

Ukraine had said that the plant in its southeast was shelled overnight, the IAEA added.

"The Ukraine regulatory authority said a fire at the site had not affected 'essential' equipment and plant personnel were taking mitigatory actions. There was no reported change in radiation levels at the plant," it said.

This plant provides more than a fifth of total electricity generated in Ukraine.

Destruction of infrastructure that threatens us will be completed: Lavrov on Ukraine war

Sergei Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister, has accused the international community of "hysteria" over Ukraine, comparing the United States to Nazi Germany and stating that "Americans have had Europe under their grip."

He said that the Americans are telling the Germans what is good for European energy security, and they're telling them they don't need that pipeline (Nordstream 2) and that supplies from the United States, which are many times more expensive, will suffice.

"They're trying to impose their own view of the future of Europe on us.

"Napoleon and Hitler had the objective of having the whole of Europe under their control; now the Americans have got Europe under control.

Russian foreign minister Lavrov compares US to Napoleon and Hitler

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told President Vladimir Putin during a carefully choreographed meeting on Monday that there was "always a chance" to find agreement with West on security concerns. The words appeared to be contributory to an apparent Russian climbdown. However, the situation would depend on what happens next.

"As head of the foreign ministry, I must say that there is always a chance" to find agreement, Lavrov told Putin.

The United States has warned that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could be imminent, and their western allies have threatened a crippling package of economic sanctions in response.

But speaking to Putin, Lavrov indicated that Moscow was prepared to continue talks with the West.

"Is there a chance to reach an agreement with our partners on key issues or is it an attempt to drag us into an endless negotiation process?" Putin asked Lavrov in televised remarks.

Lavrov replied: "Our possibilities are far from being exhausted, they certainly should not continue indefinitely, but I would suggest continuing and ramping them up."

He pointed out that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was set to arrive in Moscow for talks Tuesday.

Russia continues to maintain military presence of more than 100,000 troops near Ukraine. Although it claims that it did not have invasion in mind, various statements from the Russian camps are being taken to be an effort towards creating a pre-text.

Russian stock markets surge

Russia's main stock market reacted positively to the news of Lavrov talking of 'chance' of agreement with the West. Russian currency ruble clawed back some losses.

The RTS index was down just over two percent in late afternoon trading, as other world markets also came off their lows.

It had dipped more than four percent in earlier trading, as Western countries feared Moscow was preparing for an imminent invasion of Ukraine.

Since the start of the year, the RTS index has shed around nine percent.

The Russian currency, meanwhile, traded at more than 76 rubles to the dollar. It had passed the 80 rubles to the dollar mark in January, a first since November 2020.
