<h2>What's the backstory?</h2>

<p>Marisa used to work in medical-device sales in 2020. After feeling miserable and burned out for days at the time, she decided to quit her job and give self-employment a whirl. At first, she thought the problem was her boss or the work culture in corporate America. But, she soon realised that she had a "hustle culture" problem and&nbsp;a perfectionism problem. She was still approaching work the same way she did in her corporate job. The result was that she was swirling into a constant cycle of stress and burnout.</p>

<p>"I'd feel bad because I was so burned out I couldn't do anything. So I'd make an insanely long to-do list for Mondays with the hope of overachieving my way back to feeling good about myself and how much I was getting done," Marisa, who popularised the phrase, told The New York Post.</p>

<p>"Every week, the 'Sunday scaries' would hit, and every Monday, I'd sleep in until the absolute last second because I knew that list was waiting for me. The pressure I was putting on myself was paralysing, and I realised something had to change."</p>

<p>So, one day she decided to do the absolute bare minimum for work. And, according to her, it worked like magic. "I felt better. I wasn't overwhelmed, and I actually got more done than I expected," she shared.</p>

<p>Now, on Mondays, she doesn't schedule meetings. For the first two hours, she does little to nothing. Then she starts with some reading, some journaling, and doing some house chores. "It's two hours of no technology — no checking email — just doing whatever I need to do to feel good starting my day," she shared.</p>

<p>Around 10, she starts focusing on creative work for her brand, before breaking for lunch at 11. After that, the next two hours are solely for completing her "main work tasks".</p>

<p>"I'm not multitasking, I'm not distracted, I'm not on my phone. If I'm not done after that, I'll do another hour, but it's usually no more than that," Marisa continued. "My Monday workday is shorter but because it's really focused work, I get the same amount done as my old eight-hour workdays."</p>

<p>"Bare minimum Mondays&nbsp;has completely overhauled my relationship with productivity and work and how I think about myself.&nbsp;And the trend should be seen as an opportunity for people to start untethering themselves from hustle culture, little by little, until corporate America catches up. The tide is turning, and I feel like employees are tired of trading their well-being to perform well at work," the TikTok creator concluded.</p>

"It is not worth burning out and being incapable the following day. In my view, it is far better to work fewer hours at 80-90 per cent effectiveness and allow your body to rest and recover," Ellson told Daily Mail.</p>

<p>Ellson said that the concept was a great idea to avoid burning out over time and recommended changing the work environment if possible. She suggested working remotely from a library or co-sharing space for extra motivation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Instead of working from home, go to the library with your laptop and talk to the librarian about your work goals – they are a wealth of knowledge and can help you find great solutions. If you have a local co-working space, consider going there on a Monday if you need a bit of extra motivation and would like to have something to look forward to doing differently on Mondays and being around other people,"&nbsp;Ellson added.</p>

<p>Award-winning novelist Sir Salman Rushdie, who was stabbed last year at an event in New York, is all set to release his new novel 'Victoria City', an epic tale of a 14th-century woman who defies a patriarchal world to rule a city, on Tuesday. In a recent interview, he finally broke his silence and commented on the 'colossal attack', due to which he spent six weeks in hospital and lost vision in one eye.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to The New Yorker, Sir Salman said he was "lucky" to have survived the attack and that his "main overwhelming feeling is of gratitude".</p>

<p>In the wide-ranging conversation with David Remnick, the novelist further revealed, "I've been better. But, considering what happened, I'm not so bad."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hadi Matar,&nbsp;the man suspected of stabbing Sir Salman, has been charged with attempted murder.</p>

<p>"The big injuries are healed, essentially. I have feeling in my thumb and index finger and in the bottom half of the palm. I'm doing a lot of hand therapy, and I'm told that I'm doing very well," he said before stating that it was difficult for him to type and write due to a lack of sensation in some of his fingertips.</p>

<p>Further, sharing how much he has recovered so far, Sir Salman said, "I'm able to get up and walk around. When I say I'm fine, I mean, there are bits of my body that need constant checkups. It was a colossal attack."</p>

<p>"There is such a thing as PTSD, you know," Sir Salman said. "I've found it very, very difficult to write. I sit down to write, and nothing happens. I write, but it's a combination of blankness and junk, stuff that I write and that I delete the next day. I'm not out of that forest yet, really."</p>

<p>Sir Salman was forced into hiding for nearly a decade after he published his 1988 novel 'The Satanic Verses'. Many Muslims slammed the writer for his portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad in his book. <p>Christie's racked up $7.2 billion in auctions and another $1.2 billion in private sales, easily topping the $7.1 billion it made in 2021 as the art world emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic, which greatly hindered auction operations.</p>

<p>"In 2022, despite a challenging macro-environment, Christie's has achieved our highest ever global sales," chief executive officer Guillaume Cerutti said, referring to economic challenges sparked by inflation and the war in Ukraine.</p>

<p>He noted: "the resilience of the art and luxury markets, the remarkable success of several major art collections -- including the unforgettable Paul Allen sale -- and the expertise and hard work of our teams around the world."</p>

<p>Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft alongside Bill Gates, died in 2018. In 2009, he signed the "Giving Pledge" -- a promise to donate the majority of one's wealth to charity.</p>

<p>His extensive collection, spanning 500 years of art history, raked in a massive $1.6 billion. Five works went for more than $100 million each, including a Cezanne, a Van Gogh and a Gauguin.</p>

<p>And at a separate Christie's sale in May, a famed Andy Warhol portrait of Marilyn Monroe -- "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn" -- sold for $195 million, setting a record for a piece of 20th-century art.</p>

<p>This year at Christie's, buyers from North and South America accounted for more of total sales as compared with 2021 -- 40 per cent of the value versus 35 per cent -- while Asian buyers were on the decline.</p>

<p>Nevertheless, according to French billionaire Francois Pinault, whose holding company Artemis controls Christie's, Asian buyers were "absolutely crucial" to the overall success of the Allen sale.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The auction house said its banner year was fueled by a "new generation of collectors": 35 per cent of all buyers in 2022 were first-time clients, and 34 per cent of them qualify as millennials.</p>

<p>Asia has the "fastest-growing base of new collectors," Christie's said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Cerutti noted that cars and real estate did not figure in the results.</p>

<p>Last week, Sotheby's announced a year-end total sales projection of $8 billion, as compared with $7.3 billion in 2021. That data includes art and luxury items, but also homes and collector cars.</p>

<p>Hollywood actor Brad Pitt&nbsp;has officially stepped into the world of skincare and beauty with his new genderless product line Le Domaine. His brand, co-founded with organic wine growers the Perrin family, focuses on formulas that help with the anti-ageing process.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The brand is all about green beauty and it features upcycled packaging materials, refillable products, and formulas that are between 96% and 99% of natural origin. The vegan-friendly products also exclude ingredients "that are subject of controversy regarding the environment," according to the official&nbsp;website of Le Domaine.</p>

<p>The products will range between $80 and $385 and they will feature two exclusive, patented active ingredients, i.e. GSM10 and ProGR3. The first launch of the line will have a&nbsp;serum, facial cream, fluid cream and cleansing emulsion.</p>

The products will range between $80 and $385 and they will feature two exclusive, patented active ingredients, i.e. GSM10 and ProGR3.
