While there are many golf courses in Kashmir, the region has not produced elite-level players. Perhaps because there were no golf academies to train aspiring golfers - until now. The J&K administration has come forward to fill the void and a golf academy was inaugurated by the lieutenant governor of jammu& Kashmir - Manoj Sinha. Students of government schools are now encouraged to pursue the sport.

This is a story of an inspiring father-daughter duo from Kashmir. 8-year-old eco-warrior Jannat is fighting hard to save the Dal lake, while her father, Tariq Ahmad, runs an ambulance Shikara- a Kashmiri boat, which he uses to ferry COVID patients living on the lake. Tariq started this initiative after he contracted the virus last year. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi has also lauded his initiative.

Last year, in his address to the nation on independence day, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi touched on the topic of menstruation, which is still considered a taboo subject by many. The PM spoke about various efforts made by the government to make sanitary pads accessible to all. Various individuals and organisations are also working towards spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene - one such hygiene champion is Irfana Zargar. She has made it her life's mission to distribute free sanitary kits to women who need them in Nowshera, Srinagar. WION's Johan castell travelled to the valley to meet 'The Padwoman of Kashmir.'

The 16th summer paralympic games are scheduled to be held in Tokyo from the 24th of August to the 5th of September. Ishrat Akhter, an international wheelchair basketball player from the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, represented the country the Asia-Oceania wheelchair basketball championship in Thailand - a Tokyo 2020 Paralympics qualifier. Our correspondent Johan Castell met her a while ago. this is her inspiring story.
